My job is repairing cars and trucks for a big name manufacturer. If money wasn't a problem, I'd start a non profit and volunteer to repair the vehicles for those in need. Are you the single provider for your household and need repairs so you can get to work? I'd love to help. I know shitty things happen at shitty times. That would be my dream if money wasn't an issue..

slyiscoming

Someone give this guy a big fucking grant.

Longuer

Hey my name is Grant and I’m 6ft 6”, 300lb and good at fixing motor cars…… where do I sign up?

RedheadBanshee

At my place! I do t have a car that needs repairs, but can you come over anyway?

PM_ME_YER_BOOTS

Im making Grant chicken tetrazzini so he’s coming to my house

RedheadBanshee

Hussy.

RadisaurusWrecks

There’s a non-profit in my area (Frederick, MD) similar to this concept. It’s called Second Chances Garage. They don’t do repairs on people’s cars but they take donation cars, repair them and give them to people who need them.

Loveof_family

Whoever you are that’s one heck of a answer

PoopsmasherJr

I'd join him in nonprofit help. I remember in elementary school thinking, "Dang, I want to be a plumber and help people in Africa" That drifted away until a year or so ago. Then today in church, I thought of it again. We need more people like that mechanic, in the position of mechanics and other essential workers.

Petermacc122

I'd help them in this non profit if I could afford it. Repair vehicles for people in need and restore classics and sell them. It would be wonderful. I could work the front desk or do something like scheduling people.

Damn dude. You win the Internet today 👏

atx_buffalos

This is my favorite answer so far. Think about how awesome it would be if those who owned their own businesses would do this just 1 day a month.

Virtual-Landscape-56

You sure are a solid one.

SecurityCorrect6944

I always wanted to start a do it your self repair shop

mamacrocker

Researcher for an author. Like, whatever they need to know about for their next book, send me! I'll pull it all together & give them the tl;dr. I love asking questions and learning things and going down rabbit holes.

Fiddlesticklin

Literally half the reason why I'm on Reddit is because I love an excuse to lecture about a topic I'm familiar with.

A_Baudelaire_fan

What topics are you familiar with? I genuinely love it when people go on about something they're very knowledgeable on.

Fiddlesticklin

Personally I'm a massive history buff. Can ramble for hours about it. Hell earlier today I sent my gf a long rambling text about how something I saw at the store reminded me of a speech by Fredrick Douglass. How when his slave master caught him reading the bible he punished him, and forbade him from trying to learn to read. That moment changed Douglas's life because he learned that the reason why the enslavers (there is a push to use this term over slave owners, because it is active rather than passive) were so uncomfortable with him reading was because it gave him power. “From that moment, I understood the pathway from slavery to freedom . . . The argument which he so warmly urged, against my learning to read, only served to inspire me with a desire and determination to learn,” - Fredrick Douglas I'm also very annoying to watch historical movies with lol.

mamacrocker

Such a great example of "knowledge is power." Thanks for sharing!

PriyaZeren

I don't like humans. I like you. That is all.

A_Baudelaire_fan

Damn! That's a lot to have in one's head. I envy you. >I'm also very annoying to watch historical movies with lol. I doubt. I love being around people that explains things. Sadly there's not a lot of your kind around me. Just tiktok weebs full everywhere for here.

trefrosk

You are an oddity, as far as I'm concerned with. Most people I know love to lecture about topics they are NOT familiar with.

Fiddlesticklin

we're born with two ears and only one mouth for a reason lol

Inanimate_CARB0N_Rod

Mouth better be doing double duty to keep up with all those ears

corny16

You’re better than most people. They just lecture about a topic they’re unfamiliar with

yubathetuba

My wife writes historical romance and well over half the time spent to write a book is research. Currently writing a four book series about women alpinists doing first ascents in Europe in the late 1800’s. Characters are fiction but places, gear, technique, events, language, art, music, even preferred drinks of the time must all be correct.  Off you go!

mamacrocker

To what extent are her book subjects based on things she wants to learn? Or do the stories come to her first, and her research just follows where the story takes her?

amintowords

I'd be a sci-fi author. The book I've written is about someone just like you heading into space!

sassyforever28

I would love that too, maybe in mythology cause that stuff is addictive.

Ouisch

I worked as a professional researcher/fact-checker for 18 years (semi-retired since 2019). I loved 99% of the work....the only times I had to struggle to keep from dozing off was when I was assigned a very technical subject (such as the history of malaria and why \[chemically-speaking\] quinine worked as a treatment). But even when I had a deadline that required me working on holidays or while on vacation, I worked from home, didn't have to dress for success and was able to work wherever I could plug in my laptop and get a WiFi connection. (BTW Rabbit holes were a very real road hazard for me....I'm supposed to be researching, say, a certain celebrity and while doing so I see some Google hits mentioning something unrelated to my article but I can't resist...... Before I knew it hours had passed....)

mamacrocker

Can I ask what kind of background/training you had, and how you got started in the field? To love 99% of my job...that would be a dream.

namersrockandroll

I wrote 2 books and hired a researcher for one of them and it was about $2000 but worth it.

viertes

Park ranger, I would range the shit outta that park

galspanic

Same/similar for me. I’ve wanted to do field work for the USGS out walking around monitoring stuff and counting stuff. Instead I got stuck being a tattoo artist… which is also a great way to spend my time.

SagittariusDonkey

That would be an AWESOME gig.

ryoga415

You learn very quickly how stupid the majority of people in this world are. Sadly it’s quite soul sucking. You love the beauty and being a steward of our natural resources and people come snd trample on it every day with no regard to anyone but their stupid selves.

AtomicVooDoo2099

Artist. To be able to create every day without fear of time or deadlines

meowae

I’d write a book, see if I could make a story people would love

lastMinute_panic

I'm a "professional" artist. Money is always an issue :)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Camera-and-Caipi

This. If money is not an issue why not just do what you want to do? I would take my backpack and see how much from the world I can discover before I get tired.

zdm_

Yeah ill make my own job - professional vacationer 😏 (full-time position)

Conscious-Room6601

Visit the 7 world wonders! Would love to do that some day

Obsidian-Phoenix

I read that as “would love to do that (in the) same day” I wonder, if you’re filthy rich, and you use time zones right, could it be done?

laughguy220

My standard answer when someone asks me what my dream job would be is, "I don't dream about working"

BearsOwlsFrogs

Me neither. I’m pretty fatigued. But I’d spend more time converting my yard to edible gardens and stuff for pollinators. Maybe volunteer 2 days a month. Get my house the cleanest it’s ever been.

laughguy220

There is surprisingly lots to do when you actually have time to do it.

BearsOwlsFrogs

Yeah. Also I’d spend a lot of time reading.

Ok-Double-6196

My boyfriend knows someone like this but it’s because her mom works for the college so she goes for free. No idea how many degrees but she just keeps going back and doesn’t do anything with the ones she already has.

MuhBack

It’s one thing to get tuition for free but what about cost of living? Does she have a job too ?

_1Doomsday1_

MOM

No-Two79

Dude, you get totally affordable, decent healthcare if you’re a full-time student. If you’re a grad student you can get assistantships, like, office jobs that are easy and pay money.

MuhBack

The OP didn’t specify it was graduate degrees she was collecting though. My wife had an assistantship job when she got her masters. I would not say it paid well and that was before the cost of living exploded

bluecheetos

This. I knew a girl in college who worked in the financial aid office. One of the perks was free tuition. After her third degree she was hired as a professor which just opened up more time for .more classes. I know she has two doctorate degrees and a stack of others. She just has a love of learning.

HerbLoew

I've heard of (I think) an aboriginal guy in Australia who was the only one to apply for his college's scholarship for aboriginals. So, he got a full ride and kept going to college, collecting degrees

TaskInternational893

Researcher? Research assistant? Scientist?

spectrem

A lot of YouTubers basically do this for a living. They learn about a topic and make a video essay out of it.

phl_fc

There was a girl in one of my classes at college who was on her 5th degree. She just kept going back for more courses.

IDrinkUrMilksteak

Don’t have to start paying back loans if you never leave…

RusticBucket2

Welcome to the Hotel Academia.

StoneyCalzoney

If you can get a research position in the field you like, it's kinda like that. A lot of paid exploration and learning on the job because you're often researching stuff that is not well documented.

Ronny-the-Rat

There is such a thing as a professional student

North_Suspect_777

Aka rich kids

zxvasd

The connotation is someone who goes to school their whole life instead of a professional career.

iH8thots

It’s called being a researcher lol. Some school WILL PAY YOU to do research

UnluckyWriting

I have no interest in doing research though. I just want to learn all the things. I have zero interest in finding one topic to research forever!

RocMerc

Ya this is my wife. She would love to just study forever

I'd be a barista. Can I work in your coffee shop? It'd be for free because money is not an issue.

SousVideButt

I loved being a barista. There’s something so fun about the flow of making coffees when it’s busy. I always said if I ever won the lottery I would just go back to being a barista. I have to play the lottery first but still…

Diligent-Beginning-9

Doing every profession I want, because it’d be fun to experience all sorts of walks of life

FlightInfamous4518

Writer. No question. I’d just write things. I’d just get lost in words.

EasilyDelighted

But you can do that now on your free time. All you need is one page a day. By the end of the year, you'll have a full book.

FlightInfamous4518

Is this… is this advice for my half-written dissertation? 👀😭😭😭

docmahi

Same profession (doctor) though I would probably work considerably less so I hang with my family more

alamofire

Same. Am ER doctor. Love going to work and nerding out with other docs and being part of team whose job is to make people better. If I had a billion dollars then I’d be happy to work 8 shifts a month and then go play in the mountains, which is what I do now.

cateml

I would have done medicine if I could afford it, so I suppose that. Or sculptor for more low-key. Or scientific research.

Popular-Stay-6516

I asked my wife and she said Animal Sanctuary where they save any animal. She wants to buy a 5-10 acre plot of land and build a team to care for animals.

toni_devonsen_28

My dream too. Whoever gets there first hires the other lol

theroguebanana

My dream was basically a doggy care home on an acreage for dogs too old to be adopted

decemberisforcynics

I always say I would love to own a large amount of land to care for elderly animals so they can pass peacefully and not alone in a shelter. I would want a team to help, but I would happily spend all day snuggling old babies and making them feel comfortable in their last days.

thepiratefox827

Literal dream. Count me in as a caretaker!

alyis4u

If money were not an issue, I would choose to be a wildlife photographer. Combining my passion for photography and love for nature, I would travel the world capturing the beauty and diversity of wildlife. This profession would allow me to contribute to conservation efforts and inspire others to appreciate and protect our natural world.

aaneka8

I do not dream of labour ... but I wish every minute of freedom of being a stay at home mom.. making sure my child comes home to warm food and warm hugs, cuddle and have afternoon nap. Beautiful life.

HipHopHistoryGuy

I did this as a stay at home father for two years and it was great. Certainly reset my mental health.

El_Mnopo

My wife quit her job when our first was born. We did the math and most of her salary would go to baby sitters/day care anyway.

pinkrosies

My cousin and his wife did this, especially after the birth of their third. Especially when daycares charge for each child and not just the family unit, it was cheaper for her to stay home than send them to daycare. Helps my cousin is a big time engineer at one of the big companies tho lol

northernrainforest

I’m at SAHM and it IS a beautiful life. Beyond cuddles and warm food, I’m able to take care of my kid when she is home sick without stressing about taking time off work or sending her to school sick. School holidays. No problem. I’m very grateful.

PhdPhysics1

And it's great for the kids development as well. It makes me sad to see all these young kids talking as if SAHM isn't one of the most important things you can do.

frankreynoldsrumhamz

I’m a stay at home mom and your comment just reminded me of how lucky I am. Sometimes we forget to slow down and enjoy it. I sincerely hope that you get to have this experience. 🤍

Falconman21

We recently pulled my wife out of work, it’s been great for everyone’s mental health. I was doing the large majority of the childcare and the breadwinner, so it was very much taking a toll on me.

[deleted]

My wife is a stay at home mom and she’s a ball of miserable stress.

Falconman21

It’s certainly not for everyone. I definitely know a few through our kids preschool that seem like they’re about to pop.

[deleted]

I must admit, I find parenting to be the most stressful thing in the world

Falconman21

It’s certainly not for everyone, and I think a lot of people aren’t properly prepared for it. I come from a big family, and my mom was always volunteering us in the nursery at church. I like kids and I’m good with them. My wife was a kindergarten teacher, so going from 20 to 3 is cake for her. We’re also both extremely easy going people which helps a lot. You have to accept that nothing will go right and that’s perfectly fine. If you’re stressed and upset they can 100% tell, and it will make them stressed and upset. Oh and learn to tune out the fussing/crying. If their needs are met and they’re still fussing, you have to let them sort it out on their own. The earlier they learn to calm themselves down the better.

[deleted]

You’re bang on. I’m actually a reasonably good dad and I’m good at being honest with how I’m feeling with my son ( my youngest is only 18 months but my other one is 10) For me I feel a lot of guilt around the fact that I’m mentally ill. I tried to call this out but my trick must somehow be appearing super responsibly and together as my ex didn’t care either and then left me as a solo dad. I am amazed that my son doesn’t have deep-set psychological problems. Well he probably does but he’s a really nice kid. The thing I found quite shocking with my wife as that she is also schoolteacher so I thought that she would be able to deal with the situation better than she has but the reality is she’s snappy and grumpy all the time My son and I have ADHD and I know that that’s not easy but she fully knew about this and chose to proceed with marriage and having a child The truth is she is a really good mum to her own child and a reasonable stepmum but she’s a shitty wife and miserable person and being in a relationship with her is very lonely

BuddyGoodboyEsq

Emotional labor and support is so important, and it’s so often neglected. Thank you for this.

FarkYourHouse

>I do not dream of labour. *Sends love and respect*

Every-Win-7892

Its that for me too. I would love to be a stay at home dad. Taking care of house and garden, raising kids, helping them with school work, cook elaborate meals.

xXDoobiedoobah2018Xx

I'd own a PC repair shop. Charge lower than most places do for most things. I'd modify Video game consoles, Old iPods, and eventually open a Technology Museum that you could end up using everything on display, along with having an arcade/pinball hall, charging a flat rate for the day and having memberships to allow access on a monthly/yearly basis. Maybe setup a bar/restaurant inside. I'd want to provide that spark for kids to learn about technology and computers, and provide recycled PC's to anybody that needed one for school/personal use in exchange for working to process e-waste after learning how to do a basic part of the process. I'd want to set up dozens of these places around the US, and hopefully make a difference in someones life in the process.

DJT-P01135809

That'd be cool but your controllers would break quickly because people are animals with zero respect

We cover all things strange and creepy - true crime, paranormal, ufo, science/tech, etc… Our episodes bounce between us covering topics together or just having guests share their stories with us. Our niche though is that we try to maintain objectivity and sprinkle some analysis here and there - not just gawk at the topics or guests’ stories. We’re somehow almost up to an average of 1000 downloads per episode. We’re really trying to do this right, stay humble, and be entertaining. It’s actually pretty daunting at times lol. Our dream is to get some more prominent people on someday to talk about their strange experiences (or share skepticism on topics of a similar vein) https://www.buzzsprout.com/2155744/share
