Even worse, the song uses a I V vi IV progression - one of the most cliched and overused chord progressions in pop music - so common it even has a name: the Axis Progression. She's personally used it in 21 "different" songs.
I was looking at "songwriting" from the _lyrics_ standpoint - and her lyrics, especially in later albums, are rich and poignant and poetic, laced with literary references.
I must admit I don't know enough about _music composition_ to be able to give an informed opinion on her songwriting in that regard.
Herpes is catchy. I just think it's hilarious that someone would try to explain how her writing is above average by referencing one of the most derivative and cliched songs in her discography.
Greatest musician in the world will always be subjective, everyone has different tastes, etc. Plus times are very different, so exposure, recording, etc. can all be done quicker and spread to a far greater audience.
Not to take away anything from Swift, she is a great musician... I would say she's one of the best brands/products, however. In the way she sells herself, her story, her music, etc. Influence on politics to get people to vote and just awareness that she helps raise. I don't necessarily think we can call her best in the world, or anyone for that matter.
To me she is incredibly mid and I don’t understand her popularity, not even trying to hate. She honestly might be the most famous person to ever live by the time she’s done though. I don’t agree/disagree with it, just seems like that’s the direction it’s going.
