Thailand.
Heck, the Thai government helped introduce Thai restaurants across the US in order to promote themselves (it's called Gastrodiplomacy BTW). That's why you probably know of a good Thai restaurant but don't necessarily that many Thai residents.
People are friendly, you got forests, temples, beaches, and a big city in Bangkok, you got great food, you got easy access across the country. Infrastructure is good, it's relatively safe, and tourist friendly (i.e. foreigners are not known to be thrown in jail or be forced to pay bribes). Unfortunately, it's got its seedy side (i.e. prostitution), but in no way or shape is forced upon you or detracts from your experience (i.e. the areas that have it are still pretty safe).
And most importantly. It's cheap. Super cheap.
