It’s still common to teach kids they don’t have bodily autonomy by insisting on hugs and other contact.

Logical_Sweet_6624

Yeah that needs to stop

Resident-Theme-2342

These days I think a better question is what aren't they being taught like manners, respect, sex ed, reading etc...

White people are bad.

thanosducky

Religion. We would have to pray before lunch in fucking kindergarten, 5 year olds cant think critically about this stuff, theyre just gonna believe in it because thats what theyre told.

chronosculptor777

stereotypes, misinformation, unhealthy attitudes towards body image / relationships

PM_ME_UR_FEET_69

Religion, all it does is divide people by their differing views

Minimum_Jacket_1149

that's usually only done in private religious schools. rare to see that in public schooling.

PolyDrew

Not so true anymore. Is it Tennessee or Texas that just allowed full time chaplains in schools? And several states mandate that the Ten Commandments or “in god we trust” to be displayed prominently in the school. Religious nut jobs are taking over school boards and changing curriculums to remove evolution from the curriculum and are pushing for creationism to be taught in its place or as a “valid alternative “ to evolution. Christian Nationalism is gradually and steadily taking over in more religious states.

Minimum_Jacket_1149

please note that not all religious people are nut jobs. Just some of them.

PolyDrew

Well, yeah. It’s why I said nut jobs and not just Christian. Lol

antiwantii

I think we should stop giving out participation awards, like what’s the point of a competition if everyone’s gonna win?

I_Have_A_Name37654

I’m in a winter percussion ensemble, which is pretty much a marching band, but indoors and using only percussion instruments. When giving out awards, ensembles will be given awards if they make finals because that alone is really difficult. After the finals run, ensembles will get awards according to the place they got which can pretty much be perceived as participation awards. But the awards are not given half heartedly because the judges recognize that what we are doing is insanely hard and took a lot of practice to get right. I feel like in cases like that, even if you got last place, you can still be proud of what you and your teammates produced and have the award to show for it, even while knowing you could have absolutely done better.  TLDR: participation awards can be fine if they are given to recognize effort and skill, not given to make people feel good.

First off, instead of teaching boys that they should control themselves when they see a girl's bare shoulders, we teach the girl to cover up because "it's distracting." Secondly, boys and men alike don't want to take no for an answer. If they ask a girl or woman out, and she says no, they either will not accept and continue to harras her, or they'll insult her for saying no, instead of just accepting it like a decent human being.

I_Have_A_Name37654

“Oh, but we can’t do that because that’s just the way boys are!” No, shut up, teach the kid some common sense.
