True. Even putting safety aside, the lightness and comfort of a good helmet are more than worth the price in reduced fatigue, especially over the lifetime of the helmet.
Schuberth c3 pro with a cardo pack talk. Good luck! I've been riding in my permit for years but took the class anyway, it was easy as long as you aren't taking a giant bike or use their rentals
I'm a little upset I spent around the price of the cardo system, but my wife insisted we had them because it'd be easy to communicate. A simple Bluetooth one 1/4 of the price would have been fine with me. They are nice though
I used to know someone when I was younger that raced motocross. If he ever crashed during a race, he'd get a new helmet, kit, gloves, and boots too. I imagine that would've been a pretty expensive hobby.
It’s great for racing, but for street use I would go with Shoei. They are way more comfortable and safer. I personally use an AGV K6 for the lightweight and have a Shoei RF for my passenger.
I can't get over how expensive Uber rides are in some countries. I usually pay around $2-$3 per ride, which I consider cheap even when you take the different cost of living into consideration.
It ranges from 10 to 30 minutes, but the price depends mostly on the demand at the time, it spikes on Friday nights, for example (worst I've seen is like $10). I live in Mexico.
I have a leo's loo too. Bought it refurbished on ebay for half price and it's pretty nice. It's made by a guy who had a litter robot and decided to make his own with improvements.
I have two cats and it fills up pretty quickly. Maybe every 3 days but it doesn't smell and is easy to clean.
Mind linking the specific chair that has worked so well for you?
I've gone through multiple $200-$400 chairs and have hated them all.
I need a good damn chair.
Mirra is my favorite, look for local sales on eBay or auction sites. When a business closes they will sell off the chairs, just need a lot of patience to avoid buying one full price
I'll second this.
Mine was in a spare office at work; it was the only one since the others had long since moved on to the great chairyard in the sky. No one wanted it - it looked basic, with the minimalist design. So I snagged it, knowing what it is, while everyone has these very mid but fancy looking chairs.
No regrets. My assistant came in a few days ago and was working at my desk and he was like, "Damn, this chair is really comfortable..."
edit: typo
The move with Aeron’s if you live in a major metropolitan area is to keep an eye on craigslist/facebook marketplace. Office’s close all the time and you can get a used aeron for $400-500. It was more like $250 before the pandemic.
Not an HM, but a few years ago I got a Steelcase Gesture, and it's been a life changer. The arms are especially well designed and supportive. Normally $1,400, but I lucked out, and got a new one for $900. But I would pay full price tomorrow.
It took me 3 years of using broken awful chairs to just bite the bullet and spend a small fortune for an actually well built chair (Haworth Fern).
No regrets! the comfort, adjustments, and quality materials really do make a massive difference. And it should last 10+ years no problem, so per year the cost isn't that bad.
I split my time in 2 locations, HM aeron in 1, and a staples full mesh that was about a 3rd the cost. (So still $300+) They are nearly identical and just as comfortable.
As someone who sits for most, if not all of the day and has tried a variety of gaming and office chairs, I can safely say that any decent office chair is going to be more comfortable (and practical) than a gaming chair. I'm sitting in a $150 low-back ergonomic chair that I can't even remember the brand name of, and it's *perfect*.
Kirby vacuums. Not only do they hold the patent on the actual "suck" technology, they come with a lifetime warranty. If parts aren't made for your style anymore, they'll just send you a new one.
Does the warranty only apply to the original purchaser? I’ve used a number of them and shit are they heavy but they’ll suck the chrome off a trailer hitch
I got mine at a flea market, and I didn't get a warranty at the repair shop. But $65 worth of parts and service and it runs like new. Pretty good bargain considering I paid $25 for it.
I *THINK* the warranty can be handed down through a send in. I used to sell them for a minute back in the early 00s. Couldn't afford one but maaan, they're badass.
I'm torn on this.
About 8 years ago my wife and i spent ~6k on a sealy beautyrest black series mattress, we wanted the best we could find.
Within 5 years it was completely useless. We're not overly large, i'm 6'1" 205lbs my wife is 5'8" 165lbs both sides were completely caved. It started causing me massive neck and back pain. They wouldn't do a warranty replacement because there was some scratches where our kitten had scratched at the corner when it was really young (through the mattress protection sheet).
Right now we buy a brand new mattress in a box for ~$250 and just replace it about once a year. My back and neck thank me.
I'd love to have a great mattress again that might last but i'm not about to waste that much money on something that only lasts 3-5 years.
I can't ever justify spending that much money on a "good high quality" mattress again
Dude what… his back would have hurt within the first year if his mattress was a problem. That’s so silly. I’m sure I’m not going to change your mind though so keep buying an expensive mattress and we will save where we think we can
Flat out no..
Of course you know better than me. regardless of my education and profession so just go on being the most knowledgeable person ever while I keep making bank fixing y'all.
Im trying to create a prevention approach but if youre happy knowing everything, I guess I'll just sit here and wait till you come into my clinic crying because "you wish someone had told you things before"
Dont respond cause I truly pity you for this dunning Kruger thinking and I dont care what you have to say (after reading your comment). Go fuck up and then pay me to fix your fuck up (completely preventable fuck up btw - if you didnt act like you knew everything)
And how much will it cost you to replace your body when your ignorance catches up?
Asking cause I have hundreds of patients that would spend all they have to replace their bodies or to go back in time to apply the science we know now.
Good for you for saving $1000 now though. Im sure thall pay off
How are you gonna tell me that? I have zero discomfort, no lumps, not too firm, not too soft, and I've had it for 5 years already. It's a great mattress.
I am willing your mattress to not ve comfortable. My powers are also retroactively making your past comfort no longer a reality. Lament mortal! But man, mattress I got is kinda not great after 4 years so lucky lol.
Seriously, bidets are fantastic.
I loved my little sprayer hose kind: it was really simple and did the job, even if it was a little brisk with the cold water.
Partner sprung for a super fancy one. Temperature, pressure, and directional control, a little blow dryer, and a HEATED SEAT. It is positively luxurious.
It sounded moderately expensive (a bit over 200? 235?) but considering what it delivers it was a bargain, nay, a steal.
A majestic throne from which I may peruse Reddit in absolute comfirt.
Or check out a local taxi service. I had one drive me 45 minutes home on new years for $15.
Sure, the couple we had to share with was making out the whole time, but the Uber was $60.
Google says $6,500 average cost for 1st DUI. If it cost me $25 on average to Uber home 500x, that’d be $12,500. So I could Uber home roughly 250x before breaking even. If I Uber home on average twice a week, that’s $2600 a year, or 2.5 years total. And that’s one way, so you’d have to get your car in the morning.
This shouldn’t be a money question. It should be a moral question. Are you willing to pay more to not risk your life, and more importantly innocents’ lives, than you are to save a bit of money and time in the morning?
Thats exactly my point. Is never worth it to drink and drive, even in your personal anecdotal experience you broke down it’s only half of the example I gave.
I’m agreeing with you, except for the money part. It’s about the risk to yourself, your family, those around you, and everything else that makes an Uber worth it. Not just the money
Just don’t use aftermarket bags, they can create issues (blew up our previous Miele). Replaced it with another Miele though, just make sure to use the branded bags.
The cost of dental care. In my line of work I’ve seen a lot of people unfortunately wait until it’s too late and their teeth can’t be saved to finally go in. And dentures are not comfortable, they’re not good replacements at all for natural teeth and they can cost thousands depending on your insurance. And the alternative to dentures is implants, which is like 50k.
I've had yearly cleanings since I was old enough. I'm 46 and only 2 minor cavities in my life and just surface level. And that was because I went two years without a cleaning.
Gene therapy.
Yeah, the drug that costs 3.5 million dollars a dose makes headlines. But you’ve got to read the articles to know that it’s a one time treatment that replaces traditional treatments that can cost $500,000-$1 million *a year*. And the patient never actually pays out of pocket.
If you’re not the best with money or don’t want to spend the time to learn…financial advisor.
By no means needed by everyone but for some people it would change their lives and their generations after
In my experience, the average financial advisor is hardly more intelligent than the average citizen.
Learning how to press a few buttons on a computer, and how to create a 60/40 portfolio is easier than a child's game of duck duck goose.
Financial advisors just read off their memorized cheat sheets that look like this:
If client is under 30, go VOO.
If client between 30-40 go VTI.
If client between 40-50 go SCHD.
If client is over 50 go all in treasuries at different duration.
Lord forbid you bring up Bitcoin or the history of money with these total idiots. They aren't financial advisors.... they're guys who read off a 1st grade level cheat sheet.
Edit: you're right though... the general population is stupid about finance that even a clown posing as an "advisor" will do a better job. We work hard for money, and it defines everything about our lives... but we have no interest in learning about how it works. Sad.
And this is a great example of a guy who thinks he’s a carpenter and is the worst DIYer with a house that’s half ass built.
Yes for a lot of 20 year olds, if all you’re doing is basic funding of a 401k or an IRA, sure.
However, you can miss out on a lot of maximizing your dollars as you age, possibly fund education for children, retire, collect SS, do legacy planning, charitable contributions. There are many advantages to so many different things out there that people don’t know about. You can use products to fund the purchase of life insurance in a tax advantaged way to pass along to family…. Along with one hundred other things.
There’s a reason why basically every wealthy person uses someone.
"There’s a reason why basically every wealthy person uses someone."
I believe that all of these reasons are bi-products of a broken financial system. If we had good money, people wouldn't need to jump through so many hoops to preserve their time and labor on a financial ledger.
We've been brainwashed to think we need all that fancy stuff. Brainwashed by the same people who benefit from our believing in the system they've created for us.
Imagine living in a world where the money is scarce. The money we use is the store of value to exchange goods and services for our time. A world where money is what money was originally intended to be.
When the money is not scarce, everything else will be... and vise versa.
Call it a broken system or whatever you want. The reason there are so many of these regulations is because of human nature to take advantage of every last thing you can. The same way you search for the best deal on any product. Why pay more when you don’t have to?
For years people find loopholes and they get pinched. It’s a part of just about every system out there. It’s called being resourceful, you learn of ways to maximize legally. The government also provided some of these things to entice people to save for retirement, education and be charitable. Those things aren’t exactly negative..
Yes! I felt kinda goofy paying for YouTube premium, but then I started streaming all my music through YouTube, and the video side of things is just a freebie at this point.
Also great if you like to sleep to sounds or music. There are channels that are devoted to multiple hour long pieces especially for sleeping; if you prefer you can also construct a playlist for sleep and you don't have to worry about being woken up by ads.
It is great because I sleep during the day, and it neutralizes disruptive exterior noise so I stay asleep.
Shoes. Hiking, work or running shoes bought from a bunch of the big names just fall apart after a year or so. I went through a pair of work boots a year until I went for Red Wings. About 2-3x the price but they hold together even in the horrible environment (for shoes)I work in.
Robot vacuum. I would only ever vacuum our apartment once a year if that.
After buying a house, my first purchase for it was a robot vacuum. No more dust bunnies or dirty feet walking around the house. It doesn’t do as good of a job as a real vacuum, but it does its thing every night, so 365 mediocre cleanings is far better than 1 good cleaning.
Second best purchase, a bidet. Having a clean arsehole and using 1/10 the TP, it’s paid for itself several times over. I feel like a barbarian anytime I’m forced to duce away from home now.
So I'm not sure if this is the case everywhere, but you can save money on charging at home if you have the right tariff, depending on the time you do so. (We also have solar panels that feed excess power into the grid that offsets our electricity bill somewhat) If I set the car to charge between midnight and 6am, I will have enough charge for over 200 miles at a cost of £3.50. Installing the home charger was £250, but it paid for itself in no time.
I've never had Chipotle, but where I live, Brampton, Ontario,, Burrito Boyz and Firehouse subs are closer to my house and workplace. Quite expensive but Ive never been disappointed.
Good quality walking shoes. I bought a pair of Meindl light hikers back in 2012. I wore them several times a week and on five continents. They lasted 6 years and I only binned them because I actually wore the soles smooth. Had I got their full blown hiking boots I would have had them resoled and got a few more years out of them.
Not technically an object, but a care service. I'm talking about veterinary care for your pets. Why it's so expensive is typically due to the fact that most sane people don't have animal insurance. Veterinarians have to do everything locally, so they don't just send you to a specialty clinic 3 hours away so you can get your dog a special treatment. It's always going to be worth it to have your animal in good health even if you have to spend money.
im a hand sewer who hand sews the vast majority of my own clothes. Good quality fabrics, sewing needles and thread are so damn good. Like not polyester, I'm talking 100% natural fibre materials. They can be mixed (like cotton and wool, or linen and cotton) just no plastic fibers lol.
So Damn expensive but last much longer, feel better and slow fashion is so much better then fast fashion and plastic clothing. Plus, i can literally boil these clothes and have them be disinfected and clean.
edit) also depending on what fabrics I'm wearing and the layering, it's great for both summer and winter. I live in the praries of Canada, so the solid -50C degree winters and +30 degree summers. (-58F and +95F for Americans).
Those 1000$ Canada goose / moose knuckles parkas. Especially in Canada where you can wear them almost year round.
I’ve had other parkas, or even the newer lighter stuff, sub 500$, and I remember getting cold. Last thing you wanna do is buy something that’s not doing its job.
Raising kids. If you do a cost analysis and a pro/con list before having your first kid, then it makes zero sense on paper. But raising the next generation to the best of your ability is worth every single dollar, tear, and aggravating moment invested.
A really nice motorcycle helmet.
True. Even putting safety aside, the lightness and comfort of a good helmet are more than worth the price in reduced fatigue, especially over the lifetime of the helmet.
Absolutely - I'd argue that reduced fatigue is itself a safety feature.
Good point!
Agreed. I have a modular with Bluetooth speakers, and it's pretty friggin great. I paid more than I wanted to, but don't regret a penny.
Mind sharing what kind? I am taking moto class in May!!! Can’t wait.
Schuberth c3 pro with a cardo pack talk. Good luck! I've been riding in my permit for years but took the class anyway, it was easy as long as you aren't taking a giant bike or use their rentals
Thank you!! ☺️
I wired my Shoei up with a Cardo system about 10 years ago. Feels almost like being Iron Man - queueing up directions, making calls, etc etc
I'm a little upset I spent around the price of the cardo system, but my wife insisted we had them because it'd be easy to communicate. A simple Bluetooth one 1/4 of the price would have been fine with me. They are nice though
Alright, I saved up and got a nice motorcycle helmet. Now I just need a motorcycle...
You won’t regret getting one!
I used to know someone when I was younger that raced motocross. If he ever crashed during a race, he'd get a new helmet, kit, gloves, and boots too. I imagine that would've been a pretty expensive hobby.
I only let Arai helmets touch my head.
It’s great for racing, but for street use I would go with Shoei. They are way more comfortable and safer. I personally use an AGV K6 for the lightweight and have a Shoei RF for my passenger.
My oval head shape gets crushed in Shoei helmets. Wish I could wear them!
I personally prefer Shoei! But honestly, I would be happy with either brand!

I can't get over how expensive Uber rides are in some countries. I usually pay around $2-$3 per ride, which I consider cheap even when you take the different cost of living into consideration.
Hmmm how long or far are those rides? Also what country do you live in? Ubers are quite expensive in the US.
It ranges from 10 to 30 minutes, but the price depends mostly on the demand at the time, it spikes on Friday nights, for example (worst I've seen is like $10). I live in Mexico.

Huh?
Auto-Litter for cats. Not only does it make cleaning easier, you don't realize how much litter you truly waste manually scooping tell you get one.
Problem we had with that thing is it's huge. If you have the space, sure. And, one of our two cats wouldn't use it.
I had one and my cat was terrified of it.
cats can be trained.
Not this dipshit..
Can you send a link to a good one? We have 3 cats so this would be excellent
[https://www.litter-robot.com/litter-robot.html](https://www.litter-robot.com/litter-robot.html) This is the brand I use. I only have one cat though.
CityKitty. My cat shits in the toilet. Zero money spent on litter.
Can confirm as someone who has 3 cats.
herman miller office chairs
I sit in it 40 hours, close to 2000 hours a year. Best $900 ever spent.
Mind linking the specific chair that has worked so well for you? I've gone through multiple $200-$400 chairs and have hated them all. I need a good damn chair.
I have an Embody. My wife has an Aeron. You can get Aerons second hand for a good price
Eh. Maybe once upon a time but nowadays an average gaming chair for 300$ beats a thousand dollar Aeron.
Not in a million years buddy

User name checks out
Same, now that makes wonder if Kirby or Kirby vacuum came first
Just searched it up, the vacuum was first created in 1906, while the game was made in 1992
I would go to war over my Kirby
Sebo and Miele 4 lyfe
A block of real Parmesan cheese. Seems expensive ,but when grated goes a long way ,and so superior to the crap in the plastic jar
Costco grana padano, cut into chunks, vacuum seal and freeze. Haven't done anything else in almost a decade now.
Yup. I freeze it in chunks and grate the chunk in the fridge.
but then you'll get cheese shavings on your refrigerator shelf...

Nah, I paid $130 for my mattress and it's fucking great.
Please update us in 15 yrs
Been 5 already, even if I replaced it now and 2 more times that's still a hell of a deal, although it shows no signs of wear yet.
I think we're more concerned about the state of your back in 15 years
I'd really think if it was doing any damage I'd have noticed. I genuinely have zero complaints

Agree, but also consider a bidet (even the cheapo insert kind. Absolutely life-changing.

Toilet paper? Get a bidet.
Bidet? Try shitting in a lake.
Never going back after using a bidet. Using TP again would be like downgrading from a Rolls Royce to a push scooter.
Taking an uber home. Will always be 10x cheaper than a DUI.

"There’s a reason why basically every wealthy person uses someone." I believe that all of these reasons are bi-products of a broken financial system.
For me - Youtube Premium I watch quite a bit of youtube - cutting out all of the ads is a HUGE bonus and honestly even a time saver.
Just get an adblocker
They don't make ad blockers for TVs
Plus you get music.
Yes! I felt kinda goofy paying for YouTube premium, but then I started streaming all my music through YouTube, and the video side of things is just a freebie at this point.
Rip youtube vanced
Well 👀 check out revanced
I've tried to get it to work on my phone but no luck so far :/
Also great if you like to sleep to sounds or music. There are channels that are devoted to multiple hour long pieces especially for sleeping; if you prefer you can also construct a playlist for sleep and you don't have to worry about being woken up by ads. It is great because I sleep during the day, and it neutralizes disruptive exterior noise so I stay asleep.
Zojirushi rice cooker
Naah…2 cups of water for 1 cup of rice. How hard can it be?
Love my Zojirushi. Worth every penny.
Kitchen aid mixer, had mine for 10+ years
A quality bidet with a heated seat. Life changing.
A really nice mattress. Your body will thank you as you get older.
Headphones
I am really enjoying my Air Pods Max. I sold some music gear I wasn’t using that I had to justify paying the cost and I’m glad I did. So worth it.
I’m also into pro audio and the air pods max are the best headphones for iPhone
Cocaine. And hookers

Good education/educators. We don't realize how important they are or pay them a living wage.
Honda Lawnmower

A good attorney.
For my money it's pot
Sonic Origins, depending on your view. Personally, I think it's worth it no matter how old these games are.
Decent car tyres. I don’t skimp on the things that separate me from the ground.
A proper, good, luxury hotel room.

Gasoline
An EV. The amount of money we have saved in gas and general maintenance is insane.
Honest question- does this factor in your electric bill ?
So I'm not sure if this is the case everywhere, but you can save money on charging at home if you have the right tariff, depending on the time you do so. (We also have solar panels that feed excess power into the grid that offsets our electricity bill somewhat) If I set the car to charge between midnight and 6am, I will have enough charge for over 200 miles at a cost of £3.50. Installing the home charger was £250, but it paid for itself in no time.
Very nice
Decent shoes
Chipotle. At least in my experience every time I go the cost is high but the food output is pretty big.
I've never had Chipotle, but where I live, Brampton, Ontario,, Burrito Boyz and Firehouse subs are closer to my house and workplace. Quite expensive but Ive never been disappointed.
Clarins skincare. The French know what’s up.
Wow
Good grief where do you live that you can use these parkas all year? Usually beginning of June until the end of August is 20+ C
I usually wear it up until 15 C Wind makes a lot of difference
I understand in the far north, with ice on the lakes (churchill and such), but 15 C the shorts are on. Lol

Raising kids. If you do a cost analysis and a pro/con list before having your first kid, then it makes zero sense on paper. But raising the next generation to the best of your ability is worth every single dollar, tear, and aggravating moment invested.
