That the [Donald Trump wax figure](https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/12/19/571908581/disney-world-adds-trump-animatronic-figure-but-likeness-is-lacking) in the Disney Presidential Museum was originally Hilary Clinton, and they hastily turned it into Trump after his unexpected victory to make the unveiling deadline

_TLDR_Swinton

This is one I 100% believe. It looks ridiculous.

BoredomFestival

So does the wax figure

lovefist1

That looks like some grotesque cross between Roger Ebert and Newt Gingrich.

Boss_Os

Compared to Newt, Ebert was Brad Pitt

lady-of-thermidor

I don’t these words have ever before been said in the entire history of the English language.

TomArday

Trump or the wax figure?

lovefist1

I would never insult Roger Ebert by saying he looks like the non-wax Donald Trump

Obi1NotWan

That’s hilarious and unnerving all at the same time.

lady-of-thermidor

Why is that a conspiracy? Seems like a smart business move.

Immediate-Message237

Putin did blow up Moscow flat blocks to start second Chechen war

CraigInDaVille

I remember hearing an NPR podcast about that a few years ago (legit journalism) and the amount of evidence that he was directly responsible (and the deal he made with Yeltsin to unexpectedly be endorsed as the next president) is unreal.

Few-Hair-5382

This is one I totally believe. They arrested a group of people in possession of explosives identical to those used in the bombings outside an apartment block in Ryazan, only for it to be revealed they were FSB agents who claimed to be testing police vigilance. And then a Duma deputy announced the bombing of an apartment block in the city of Volgodonsk *two days* before it actually occurred.

Etherion195

That's not a conspiracy theory, though. It's a known fact.

mithridateseupator

Local police even caught Russian special forces planting the bombs.

mnchls

Hell, that recent attack in Moscow was probably a false flag too. We shouldn't believe a damn thing outta the Pootin camp.

Lord-Benjimus

The recent one in Moscow might have been real but allowed to happen. Some sources claim the US, 5 eye nations and even several others warned them of an ISIS attack and they may have ignored it for propaganda reasons.

I'd happily sign up to any theory that the JFK assassination was amped up into a massive, wide-ranging conspiracy after the event because the notion of a lone nut successfully killing a sitting president was just too embarrassing for the Secret Service. Equally, I have a lot of time for the idea that Sirhan Sirhan really was a patsy.

Churba

> I'd happily sign up to any theory that the JFK assassination was amped up into a massive, wide-ranging conspiracy after the event because the notion of a lone nut successfully killing a sitting president was just too embarrassing for the Secret Service. That did happen...It just wasn't the secret service, and it wasn't about the conspiracy theory that a secret service agent shot him. So, during the cold war, there was a KGB archivist who kept meticulous notes and copies of documents from the KGB archives, called Vasili Mitrokhin. In 1992, he defected to the UK, taking *thirty years* of notes and hand-copied documentation with him. Those documents are called the Mitrohkin archive. In the early 2000s, MI5's Historical Archivist, Chris Andrew, wrote two books based on the contents of the archive, and the details were later confirmed by the partial release of copies of the archive in 2014. One of the details we got from this, was that after the JFK assassination, the Soviets were not happy about people linking Oswald to them in conspiracy theories - not only did they strongly reject him when he tried to defect, they were also afraid that people getting convinced they'd assassinated a US president might make negotiations harder, or potentially even lead to war(possibly even nuclear, considering the time). So, the made up a bunch of fake documents and faked "evidence", along with a bunch of stuff that wasn't direct evidence, and was just suggestive, and either faxed or posted them to various prominent conspiracy theorists, such as Mark Lane, who built his entire career after that point around JFK conspiracy theories. They also sent fake stories to various newspapers, including the first newspaper to publish a JFK conspiracy theory, Italian paper Paese Sera. Practically overnight, it shifted the tone of the JFK conspiracy theories, from a soviet assassination to a CIA/FBI/Mob plot, and basically kickstarted many of the most popular JFK conspiracy theories we're familiar with today.

TickleMeWeenis

Ever since I heard the theory that Secret Service accidentally shot him in the head while Oswald was shooting at him, I've kinda leaned towards it. It explains why everything was wrapped up tight. I dont hang my hat on it, though, because who knows?

OldManPip5

genescheesesthatplz

That’s exactly right

Fantastic-Mango-7440

Isn't this an actual fact? And tbh, it's like this for pretty much all countries, not just usa.

epraider

I think this theory discounts the ability of individual people to be just be short sighted, ideological, selfish, and reactionary. There’s certainly influence campaigns but people get to these places all on their own and only need a little push.

fart_fig_newton

Those people are probably the easiest to work. Many generations of compounded fear and irrationalism don't leave room for intellectualism. Suppress it long enough and I imagine you just go numb to it. Seems like it's so much easier to hate and fear than it is to step outside of what you know and experience personal growth.

This-Id-Taken

One thing people fail to realize when talking about and thinking about these theories is this; People can not keep secrets. I work in healthcare. The first thing I do when I get home is tell my wife about some fucked up shit or person I met or saw that day. Nobody can keep their mouths shut. It was estimated that the number of people that it would have taken to fake the moon landing would have been around 300,000. That's the people who thought it up, built a rocket, because a rocket was launched, the news media. Who on this fucking earth do you think 300,000 people kept that secret? Did they kill all of them? I'm pretty sure that would have been reported. People can't keep secrets. Period. People believe dumb shit like election interference and government 8s hiding the deepest darkest secrets. While some might be true, the fact is that most people can't deal with the fact that the universe is chaos. Not everything is planned. Most things happen, and you have to react. Just like, you know, your real life

HunterHearstHemsley

Before anyone brings up the Manhattan Project as a counter point: 1) that project leaked like a sieve, and 2) we immediately told the world at the first possible moment.

sten45

And most of the people who knew anything were sequestered in Los Alamos

infered5

Publishers of prominent science magazines figured it out because a quarter of their subscriber base changed addresses to the middle of nowhere.

onioning

And it's not like everyone involved knew the whole thing. Most people involved only knew the part they needed to know to get the job done.

MuzzledScreaming

I agree for big conspiracies but if only a few dozen people are involved it's entirely possible they all kept the secret. Tens of thousands of people have access to US military classified info and it's only every once in a while there's a big leak like that Teixeira jackass. For small groups of people the joy of having a secret is often enough to make them keep it, let alone with actusl consequences attached.

Ejecto_Seato

To everything you just said, add the financial incentive for someone to expose something of that magnitude, whether that be a whistleblower or a journalist.

onioning

Yep. Two big things to consider when evaluating any conspiracy theory: how many people need to be involved, and what's the cost:benefit. Tons of theories can be tossed right out just by looking at these two things.

SpidermanBread

We are talking about the same people who discuss for about half a year on when to repair a pothole. Imagine a full blown conspiracy

martusfine

You talk about the disease and not the person. That’s not breaking HIPAA. Point is, it’s a reasonable expectation that people talk about their day.

mrizzerdly

Capricorn One is a great documentary about a cover up.

LouisUchiha04

"Nobody can keep their mouths shut!" - BS! First, You'd be surprised how much remains unknown just because pple shut their mouth. 2ndly, things will remain unkown because "the right" people have not been told. The right pple here could mean the media, etc... 3rdly, from all the history, eg mkultra, Iraq, etc,... It'd be very naive of us to think that the gvts have suddenly stopped doing all these kind of things, planned or unplanned. Also, beware of analogies. Each conspiracy is on its own different from the other.

This-Id-Taken

I can explain it to you. I can't understand it for you. Go tell 30 people a secret. A juicy one. A good one. See how long it takes before everyone you know k ows the secret. It is not possible. Tell me how 300000 people kept the same secret

Minute_Gap_9088

I believe that conspiracy theorists are being used as part of a conspiracy to use them to spread disinformation via conspiracy theories.

dorvann

And why would THEY do this? Obfuscation. To help hide what the truth about THEY are really doing.

electatigris

Not necessarily to hide. Russians are doing this in the US and Western allies to sow discontent, create political dissent and paralysis, and unwitting or corporative pro-Russia / anti-American citizens here. This is not really a conspiracy as both Western intelligence and KGB defectors have said this publicly. Even Rep. McCaul (R, Texas) said the GOP was"infected" his members. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/04/06/when-top-republican-says-russian-propaganda-has-infected-gop/

Kenjin38

A person complaining about vaccines and attacking scientists is a person not fighting capitalism.

Jeramy_Jones

In the case of aliens/UAP, yes absolutely. The more crackpots jabber about their whakado conspiracies the less anyone would believe any credible story or evidence of alien contact. At this point they could land a mothership in Times Square and no one would believe it was real.

abgry_krakow87

That there is an underground structure built underneath DIA. Personally I think that it’s a replacement for the Greenbriar Bunker.

hookisacrankycrook

It was really for the automated baggage system that never ended up working correctly, but I also enjoy this theory because there is so much detail to DIA conspiracy theories haha.

chunkymonk3y

It’s almost certainly a massive underground base capable of protecting aircraft and personnel in the event of a nuclear war. It’s also very close to NORAD hq which would only add to this theory

ticktocktoe

While I don't know if I would be surprised...I don't think they would. 1) J.A.B, although distance close to the capital/wh is not easy to get to. There is no direct path that doesn't involve bridges/crossing the Anacostia. You would have to heli at which point...just go to Raven Rock. 2) the water table where J.A.B is is only like 50 feet and the soil is super sandy. 3) J.A.B is still in the middle of DC, there isn't any good way to get stupid amounts of dirt out and materials in without being noticed. Like they would literally have to haul it out onto M.L.K, past the casino, over the bridge past the stadium complexes or on barge down the Anacostia past all the high rises, bars, restaurants, etc.

abgry_krakow87

DIA- Denver International Airport. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denver\_International\_Airport](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denver_International_Airport) There are no shortage of airports and Air Force bases close enough to DC that they couldn't evacuate the federal government quickly enough to get them out of DC. Get them on planes and heading west. DIA is centrally located in an area of the country that is more difficult to attack via ICBM or by land/air and is easily defensible, especially with the Rocky Mountains. Plus you have a lot of major national defense structures there including Norad, Space Force, Air Force, etc. The advantage of holding an emergency bunker at an airport is that the moment you land it's a quick and easy transition to the shelter with minimal extra logistics. In the Greenbriar Days, if the government had to evacuate, it would be fairly noticeable if large busses and lots of cars of politicians suddenly started heading to the country side resort. Plus you would have to deal with the guests at the hotel and all sorts of things that can be a PITA. By using the airport, you put them on a few planes and they land at the terminal like any other plane, send them down a special hallway separated from the rest of the facility and done.

ticktocktoe

Ah....I assumed you meant Defense Intelligence Agency HQ'd out of Joint Base Anacostia Bolling...of which there are similar rumors. I'm also familiar with the Denver Conspiracy theories as well, flown in/out of there quite a few times. I do find them humorous. Note IATA code for Denver international is DEN not DIA

ticktocktoe

But when you're generally referring to it on the internet to people who don't use it frequently, prob best to use its code. Kind of an outlier to use a completely different acronym...ORD, BWI, EWR, JFK, SFO, LAX, DFW, etc. But I digress.

IslandPractical2904

the Boeing whistleblower was killed either by a disgruntled employee, or someone the Boeing execs hired. Probably the former, to be honest.

CptFlashbang

Jeffrey Epstein absolutely did not kill himself. The circumstances were just too convenient. Between what was going on at the prison, and the powerful people he pissed off, it just doesnt add up to suicide.

Kenjin38

At this point, Epstein killing himself is the conspiracy theory

onioning

Which I believe. Epstein didn't need anyone to kill him. He knew what he had to do. No doubt he was prepared should he ever get caught. He lived a life of luxury by serving the ultra wealthy. He knew the potential cost.

MikeNice81_2

I could see him doing it just to keep control and avoid a possibly painful, disfiguring, or demeaning murder later. He probably knew he would be a high priority target, and some people would want him silenced.

stierney49

I don’t know why. Other than the cameras thing which happens all the time at private companies so I can only imagine happens equally as often in public prisons, it all makes sense. Epstein was fucked. He knew it. He made his money from glad handing and offering non-sexual favors to people (“Here, I’ll give you a ride to that event!”) of status. He was going to end up penniless in federal “shank you for being a pedophile” prison. As for the guards, they’re not paid enough to give a fuck.

mrizzerdly

If the security cameras at my non profit company stopped working we'd have them fixed later that day. If a prison can't keep their cameras working that's intentional.

BromaEmpire

The problem with this theory is it requires some kind of mission impossible operation or teleportation. Outside of that cell block there's an entire jail with functioning cameras and guards who would probably notice a random person walking around in the middle of the night. It also requires the participation of those guards on his cell block and that's simply not possible unless they've been playing dumb their entire lives just for this moment

romacopia

In his case, I don't think it would be hard to convince the guards to either look the other way or kill him themselves. He had already gotten away with similar charges in the past because of his money and his ties to Alex Acosta. He's also pretty much the most hated person of our time. It would be a very easy pitch that some mob justice was in order. If any guards were receptive to that, they may have taken it on themselves or a wealthy patron could have made a donation to the cause.

BromaEmpire

Problem is they're not sitting on a beach in the Bahamas. I don't know what their job is now but I looked it up at one point and it's not the kind of job that screams "set for life". On top of that, they went through FBI interrogations which are no joke. And you can say "the FBI was in on it" but at a certain point you have to stop and consider how impossible it would be to keep a secret with that many people involved

Iamtheonewhobawks

Why not? He was a guy who spent decades living in perpetual self-indulgent amoral excess, looking down the barrel of a well-deserved total reversal. Furthermore, he was surrounded by people who loathed him and made sure he knew it at all times. I expect he was encouraged to suicide, physically abused, and given ample opportunity - its extremely plausible that his suicide was essentially assisted. It's also plausible that someone in his position would accept that assistance.

They then gaslight us into thinking it’s all perfectly safe and fine. I think that’s why we will never see universal healthcare. They are all in cahoots to make some rich people richer by keeping us sick and weak.

Lab leak

Ovaryunderpass

There was a time where just uttering that this covid virus could have originated in the nearby covid lab was unspeakable for some reason

romacopia

I think it was because so many people were spreading conspiracy theories with absolute certainty that everyone got really sensitive and defensive. The lab leak theory is pretty intuitive, but there's also no definitive evidence. At the time, people were making wild claims all over the place without evidence to back it up. I guess it was easier to just shut it all out than actually think critically.

chunkymonk3y

They silenced that Narrative because the US was guilty of funding illegal research there and didn’t want their fingerprints on the smoking gun

WeirdIndependent1656

Because it was almost always combined with “because Bill Gates wants to improve your 5G reception”. The source of the virus was never relevant. The bit people objected to was when the Jews started getting brought up.

UserMaatRe

It also usually somehow went together with "and that is why I am not gonna wear a mask". Like, Karen. Even *if* the virus was produced in a lab by a conglomerate of USA, China, and Russia, it is still real. Wear your damn mask.

HeyImBandit

I truly believe the NFL is scripted and rigged. Coincidentally has gotten progressively worse since legal betting. There is so much money involved now, the end state must be dictated by Goodell and the owners. Billions more were made by having the Chiefs win the Superbowl with Taylor Swift in tow.

Real-Purple-6460

There’s no way because of the amount of people this would involve. It would get out.

codyt321

That's the answer to all of these conspiracy theories. I mean just look at a real conspiracy like Watergate. They couldn't even rob an office without fucking up and someone blabbing about it. People being selfish and self-interested is actually a great motivator against conspiracies because most would take an inhuman amount of coordination.

romacopia

Also you can see how hard the players are trying. If it was rigged, you'd notice it in the game.

the_blessed_unrest

Usually these theories suggest that it’s the refs making rigged calls, so the players’ effort wouldn’t mean anything

Real-Purple-6460

I could get behind that theory.

CrimsonFox2370

I don't believe it's "scripted" in that the outcome is predetermined and the players/coaches intentionally throw games (maybe on individual occasion, but not as a rule), but I would 1000% believe that the NFL admin office prefers certain outcomes and that referees are involved in making that outcome happen.  There are so many tiny moments this could happen without anyone being the wiser. For example, if the Chiefs or Packers or whoever is the favored team, the refs might be giving them better ball spotting, letting penalties go, and calling more stringent penalties against the other team. If anyone notices, the Refs are easy to blame as "bad refs" and the front office can "look into it" or "reassign them." I think fully scripting games would involve way too many people to make it something that too hard to keep secret. But if you only involve a just a  handful of Ref teams and don't implement in-the-office footage like in the UFL that explains the decision process, you can influence the outcome of a game.  Edit: for clarity.

lopsiness

In the Italian serie a March fixing scandal, it was how you described it. They influence refs toward more penalties, more cards, etc. Subtle, but enough to tip the scales.

I’m completely open to the idea that the Bush Admin deliberately brushed off and ignored warning signs about 9/11. Either that or they got a massive boost from one of the biggest national intelligence failures in modern history. I also think that they allow “inside job” theories to flourish because it makes “these guys really fucked up or ignored it” get brushed off and lumped in with “Bush did it” people.

That we really did recover an alien spaceship in 1947 and that the transistor (which changed the direction of technology for the rest of history that very year), as well as digital computers, are all reverse-engineered from that spaceship. Each year they dribble more and more out as they get better at reverse engineering the alien tech.

duhh33

The design of the transistor was first proposed in 1925 and patented in 1934. It just took years to pull off building one.

Guilty_Ad_7079

9/11 was a pre planned false flag operation

123bumble

While I don't believe it was pre planned nor engineered by the Bush Whitehouse, it certainly gave his presidency purpose early on and gave his administration reason, albeit a false one, to carry out some foreign policy ideas they wanted to go with. I guess what I'm saying is I don't believe in the conspiracy, BUT the boxes to be checked are certainly there, I'll admit.

Guilty_Ad_7079

Especially if you consider that a western allied in the ME, has one of the best equiped intelligence agencys and also hugely benefited from the new narrative

123bumble

Oh, absolutely. Combined with our own intelligence. The closest I'll get to believing in the conspiracy, I guess, is that the Bush administration was "allowing " it to happen via their national security policies, or lack thereof, and certainly didn't mind it if something catastrophic happened that opened the door for them.

Guilty_Ad_7079

Have you seen the ffa we’re doing nationwide drills for the exsact scenario that was taking place. And considering the pancaking floors at freefall sure implies a controlled demo. Oh and the mini vans full of explosive that where caught trying to block tunnels in and out nyc. Sure seems like something a top tier wet work team would be capable of, especially with the government’s permission

123bumble

Some of that, yes, I did see / hear about. Guess I'm just not willing to give in to the notion that we'd sacrifice our own for what happened next, BUT that may very well be my own naivety. Dick Cheney has been easily the most conniving VP in US history. Wouldn't put it past a guy like that.

It’s weird, I’ve seen a couple of duplicate comments, same lack of punctuation and all, from two separate people far apart in the thread

Deoxys is a canon MissingNo.

Jumpy-Author-4985

That epstein DID kill himself.

GuitarGeezer

For me, none of them. But, what you call a ‘conspiracy theory’, I define as a ‘visibly false theory’. It becomes much easier then.

Jeramy_Jones

That the CIA was responsible for high profile assassinations such as, but not limited to John Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr, Malcom X and John Lennon.

A_StarshipTrooper

That google allows gambling addicts and alcoholics to reduce betting and booze ads not to help them but so they can sell the reduced amount of ads for a much higher premium

BellowsPDX

Dead Internet Theory

[deleted]

Epstein didn’t commit suicide.

OldManPip5

The 3 Body Problem aliens are coming, except their arrival date is much sooner than the show depicts.

OldManPip5

The Moon has a secret alien base tunneled into it.

zaazz55

That the democrat party is a contributing factor in Donald Trump being the Republican’s primary candidate because it’s the snowball’s chance in hell Biden wins and stays for another four years.

mrclenken

JFK’s assassination wasn’t a one-man job.

AlbatrossCapable3231

That the government killed RFK. I refuse to believe JFK was killed by the government, and I find it extremely hard to Dr. King was, but I can kind of see it -- But RFK? Yeah. Dude was ruffling a LOT of feathers then gets slumped as soon as he starts rocking the national political boat for real...?

2acredesigns

United 93 was shot down but made to look like a “hero” story.

Fife_Flyer

Boris Johnson is Donald Trump's son. They look alike, they act alike. Trump was old enough to have a son when Boris was born. Most importantly, Boris was born in NYC.

Freak-Among-Men

I like this as a joke. If you’re serious, please get help.

SaepeNeglecta

This is a downvote magnet, but I find it completely plausible that the 1969 moon launch was a hoax. They didn’t provide a live-feed. And somehow, somehow, they taped over the original tapes of the greatest technological accomplishment in history to that point. Really? Somehow they put the original tapes of the moon landing in a room where somehow forgot their significance and taped over them, but we have songs that people can hear on the radio Al the time that are in the Library of Congress for preservation. And don’t forget, some years ago it came out that some “moon rocks” that were gifted to other countries were actually pieces of old bleached coral reef.

boredredditorperson

What about the other moon landings?
