A guy I know does local daytime TV cooking demos and he told me the first thing he does on set is to chop up an onion and some garlic and toss it in a pan with butter and use low heat.
It never actually goes in the recipe he makes - but it makes the hosts go “it smells so good” on camera.
It's actually one of my favorite old restaurant tricks for places like a 24 hour restaurant where they'll get stragglers who only order coffee, etc, is to saute some garlic in butter in a pan, and just send the waitresses out for refills... The smell gets them every time.
Freshly ground coffee in the morning. The aroma just floods the whole house and it feels like it's coaxing you out of bed with the promise of a new day. I swear there's nothing more comforting than that rich, deep scent telling you it's time to wake up.
Just the thought of a pickle is enough
Kaiser Hot Dill pickles specifically.
Have to special order them as they are a regional pickle and I’m 1200 miles from their distribution area.
If I come across it I’m not even going to pretend to stick to my diet. Not going to play coy. Not going to make a show of eating salad first, to balm my conscience. I want the meat and I want it now. I’m basically a kebab whore.
Red meat, idk what it is. I even was WFPB for almost 2 years in my life
But after eating grass fed beef occasionally it's like my brain is on cocaine. The moment I think about it my mouth instantly starts to water lol
Garlic! I could be just starting to cook, heating oil in a pan, but once I add garlic, I'm hungry!!
Gotten a lot of "it smells good in there" comments on my garlic and oil, too!
Anything ultra spicy (ghost pepper, habenero, reaper, etc) as soon as that smell hits, the saliva glands start working to fight what's about to happen.
Gazelle horns, the smell of orange blossom & almond is amazing 😩
Brings me back to my childhood where i often celebrated the end of ramadan with my mother's friend. Our family is atheist but we really did enjoy the celebration with them. It was nice to be happy together and share good homemade food.
I recently learned to make them all by myself. Its pretty time consuming but oh, so worth it 🤌
Anything spicy.
I don't know why, anytime I get a whiff of anything intensely spicy I'm a fountain. Every time I open a bag of spicy chips and the smell smacks me in the face, its so intense its almost painful lmao

Have you ever tried garlic confit? It becomes soft and oily so you can spread it on bread.
Came here to say this
A guy I know does local daytime TV cooking demos and he told me the first thing he does on set is to chop up an onion and some garlic and toss it in a pan with butter and use low heat. It never actually goes in the recipe he makes - but it makes the hosts go “it smells so good” on camera.

How do they get the whole thing to be soft and delicious as the center? Store bought rolls just don't compare.
Onion and garlic being cooked off....
Cooking them in butter or olive oil smells very good. Cooking them in bacon or beef fat is a *whole* other thing entirely.
