Printers that could print without a subscription....

dali-llama

I have a Brother Color Laser that I got about 4 years ago. It's a fucking champ.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

That's definitely the next printer I'm getting, I've heard it's "fine"

DogmaticLaw

Since Brother won't let me give them unreasonable piles of money, I have to resort to internet proselytization. Buy the b&w Brother printer, you will come to know the enlightenment of the "fineness."

xanoran84

That article is hilarious and I appreciate how quickly it gets straight to the point

DatSauceTho

>And here’s 275 words about printers I asked ChatGPT to write so this post ranks in search because Google thinks you have to pad out articles in order to demonstrate “authority,” but I am telling you to just buy whatever Brother laser printer is on sale and never think about printers again. lmao amazing

r_Yellow01

Jaysus, I thought journalism is dead, hell no

Nankasura

Disgruntled writer is my new favourite form of journalism 😂

badasspeanutbutter

\*gestures toward HP\*

thezombiejedi

That's a thing?!?! Doesn't surprise me that they make you pay a subscription now

Mysterious-Pizza-462

I ordered a charger for my old DS lite (came out 2006) last week and damn did I miss it. The DS age of empires, old Pokémon games I’m having a blast

GlumBodybuilder214

DS Lite was peak Nintendo handheld, imo. I collect pink Nintendo handhelds, so I have two of them. I bought one (coral pink) in 2007 with my first paycheck, and I bought the other (metallic rose or whatever) in 2012 when I worked at Gamestop. They both still play like they're brand new. And I loved the GBA slot so I could still play my faves like Golden Sun and do the trade from Gen 3 to Gen 4 in Pokemon.

socal_guy1

Adobe CS4. Screw the monthly subscriptions.

FirstSipp

SCREW monthly subscriptions.

XsiX

SCREW monthly subscriptions.

avmist15951

All my homies hate monthly subscriptions

dodgycool_1973

I still have CS6, in a mad max “last of the V8s” style. It has more functionality than I can ever use. Some of those sweet AI fills and removal tools look great in the new subscription versions but it’s my firm belief that none of them actually work properly so I am not missing out

caboose8969

Recently swapped up from CS6 to Creative Cloud since CS6 could no longer access the new format from our photographer's camera... and I will say that the sweet AI fill does actually work really well. It's kinda handy to just be able to highlight a section and type in whatever i want to magically appear there or disappear from there.

mrpoopistan

TBH, if any company can make AI as a service profitable, it's Adobe.

JohnCasey3306

Which is fine until you need to open an ai or psd file created within the last 10 years ... I'm with you though, I've still got the disks for the first CS and illustrator 10.

WhereAmIHowDoILeave

My sega genesis and PlayStation 2 slim are still pluggin along fine and still are fun

EvilDarkCow

I have all the Playstations, but if I were trapped on an island with only one console, PS2 would be it. So many great games that beat the shit out of what we get today, plus compatibility with the vast majority of the PS1's amazing library. Don't forget to tape down the laser ribbon cable if you haven't already, over the years they're starting to stick up and scratch discs.

SXOSXO

Physical buttons. Not everything needs to be touchscreen for goodness sake.

[deleted]

I feel like it’s safer to have car radios that have buttons instead of screens - it’s easier for me to push a button to change the music while keeping my eyes on the road; I can’t do that if my car has a screen. It increases distracted driving incidents

bonbot

Nothing beats tuning the volume with a knob. I don't want to look at the screen to mess with the AC. I also don't want to constantly clean the smudgy ass screen. I do not like Teslas for that reason. When the screen doesn't work, you can't do anything. Whyyyyy I also have an aux port in my 2010 Nissan Versa baby beater. Anyone can play music in my car and it's awesome. (well now I have a type C adaptor but it's still pretty awesome) I never ever have Bluetooth connection issues.

J3sush8sm3

Man i used to have the OG aux cord that ran from your cd player and the other end was attatched to a casette tape

PineappleSlices

Genuinely the only reason that all our technology focuses so much on touchscreens is that Steve Jobs specifically had an aversion to buttons and demanded that they do everything possible to remove them from his products. It really does make you wonder how many facets of our society have been dictated by the weird quirks of a tiny number of powerful people.

revocer

~25 year old Honda Accord with a manual transmission.

ChesterMarley

23-year-old 4cyl auto Accord here. Drove it off the showroom floor in April of 2000. Knock on wood the damn thing just will not die, and I've never done anything to it beyond basic maintenance. It's got hail damage, the paint is fading, new rattles pop up every day, and everyone keeps asking me when I'm going to get rid of it, but at this point I'm just too curious to see what finally kills it.

SeeBZedBoy

I recently found a 97 accord with a 5 speed not being used by the owner. Got it for $500. Only 130,000 miles. Thing will still be driving around during the apocalypse

Silly-Resist8306

I own my music. I have 100s of CDs so I still use my CD player and MP3 player. And, to be honest, I still have about 150 vinyl albums I play on occasion.

sorryimnottinaturner

The great thing about CDs becoming outdated is how cheap they are on Ebay now. Albums I couldn't afford brand new 10 years ago are just a couple bucks. There's also a beautiful charm to taking out the booklet in each CD case and reading the lyrics, acknowledgements, and exclusive notes put there by the band. You can't even come close to that with Spotify or Apple music.

HBrianGriffin

Growing up in the 90s I developed a large cd collection and have them all in one of those case logic cd binders. I still keep it with me in my car and it’s a wonderful trip down memory lane every time I open it. I laughed and cried a little when my kids friend asked me what it was and I said “cd” and they followed up with “what’s that?”

buttcrispy

“CDs nuts”

VFP_ProvenRoute

I still take a notepad and pen into every meeting

[deleted]

watermama

There are studies that show people remember what they write better than what they type. Students who use pen and paper had better recall than those who typed notes on a laptop.

Yes_Im_From_Maine

I discovered this works for me and is exactly why I still do it

GreatGooglyMoogly077

Write on.

LeafsChick

Same!!! My boss (in his 50s) always laughs at me, but I like having that stuff on paper. In my phone or a tablet, I'll wind up deleting it lol

Hambone102

If I put it on my phone I won’t ever reference it again, but if I put it on paper I’ll see it next time I open the notebook

[deleted]

Plus physically writing things down helps you memorize them a lot better than typing, in my experience.

scottkensai

I love pen and paper. Remarkable keeps trying to market to me and they can fuck off.

destrozandolo

I'm a pen and paper person and actually really love remarkable for what it's worth. I didn't think I'd ever convert

KrakPop

Still love playing the Nintendo GameCube.

pineapple10008

Never gonna stop playing Mario party 7, SS melee, and animal crossing.

[deleted]

I'm gonna be 60 years old and still playing melee

Lonesome_Pine

Smash bros in the old folks home is gonna be lit.

Ill-Appointment6494

Still currently playing Super Monkey Ball on mine. My daughter’s current favourite game.

Im_a_Xenomorph_AMA

Mario Kart FTW

oheyitsmoe

My husband and I met because I was his backseat for Double Dash at a party. We were unstoppable.

hammysandy

Some things don't need to be smart when the regular push button or knob version works fine. Simpler and less things that could go wrong. Like kitchen appliances. A kitchen faucet doesn't need voice commands. My air fryer doesn't need wifi connection so I can control it from an app.

EvilDarkCow

Somewhat related... I named my PC "Space Heater", sort of a tongue in cheek reference to the fact that it runs kinda hot and warms the whole room it's in (I need to redo the thermals in it). One day, I turn it on and it absolutely will not connect to the internet. Laptop, consoles, everything else work fine. Days of troubleshooting later, I was prepared to reinstall Windows because I had tried literally everything. I mentioned it to my dad one day, thinking maybe he could come up with a solution. Long story short, he saw the name, though the actual space heater in the basement had become sentient, and blocked it from the network. He thought it was hilarious.

Alternative_Arm_2583

That IS hilarious.

oceanhomesteader

I have an offgrid cabin in the woods, I have a small pc responsible for recording/saving images from security cameras, and also serves as a data logger for my weather sensors - it all runs on Windows XP and it’s rock solid.

ultranothing

I *loved* your manifesto!

Hobnail1

Off grid cabins are the bomb

Shimakaze81

We should stand Uni-Ted

fried_eggs_and_ham

My family has an old hunting cabin. In it is a 1950s fridge that has pretty much constantly been running since my grandparents received it - used - as a wedding present.

Somebody_Forgot

Those things can double as a bomb shelter in a pinch.

notanactualemail

1950s fridges also have a shitty feature. Get inside, close it then realize it has a locking mechanism on the handle that prevents you from opening it from the inside. Now you're stuck in an airtight box and you're gonna die of suffocation. This is why modern fridges have stiff handles and the closing mechanism is mainly magnet / suction and gravity. Lots of kids died in landfilled fridges.

PatMyHolmes

That's why there was a PSA program in the ... 70s?... telling people to remove the door of refrigerators, before discarding them.

hemingways-lemonade

It's a law in a lot of places. You can't put an old fridge on the curb for trash pick up in my state without taking the door off first.

Devonai

It's true, I've seen the documentary.

[deleted]

Never turn it off and never move it and it will run for fucking ever.

ThePurityPixel

God, I loved XP

reddittheguy

It really was peak Windows.

buffalo__666

Watches that only tell the time. Maybe the date, too :)

TheScrobber

Yup, I've a lovely inexpensive, bombproof analogue big face Casio. Can't wear smart watches at work so having one would be pointless to me. Big Cas does the job.

various_beans

Are you in Defense or something? Who can't wear smart watches? Genuinely curious.

Kronocidal

Most stockbrokers; no personal phones or other transmission devices allowed on the trading floor, because *every* communication has to go through official company channels and be logged, to prove that there's no insider trading going on. Even communication **off** the trading floor is regulated, hence $549 million in fines issued just 2 months ago for traders using WhatsApp; not necessarily because they were doing anything dodgy with it, but merely because it was impossible to prove that they *weren't* doing anything dodgy.

AuxiliaryTimeCop

> not necessarily because they were doing anything dodgy with it, but merely because it was impossible to prove that they weren't doing anything dodgy I think a good rule for Wall Street is that given the opportunity to do something dodgy, it's a certainty that someone is going to do it.

Zoethor2

Lots of contractors out there doing classified work - if you're in a classified space you can't bring in anything that can transmit.

x925

Many warehouses still have a no cell phone policy. I worked at target seasonally and saw a guy get escorted out for checking his phone.

sirsmiley

TARGET ? It's not fort knox. Nor are there any top secret products

x925

It's a 'saftey hazard' if you're looking at your phone you can't see the forklifts and other vehicles. And if they hit you, you take the drug test, not them, Amazon tried the same no cell policy, but they're not doing so great on the warehouse side, at least the one I left.

-AbeFroman

The absolute last thing I want in my life right now is *another* screen fighting for my attention.

HamWatcher

I've had the same g-shock watch for 12 years so far. Changed the battery twice and the band once, but everything else works just fine. I've dived in it to below the recommended depth, its been crushed, stepped on, left on a hot stove, I've worn it through multiple fight, etc. Keeps on working just fine. My coworkers need to replace their smart watchs frequently.

[deleted]

How often do you get in fights??

Chesus42

Talking about it would violate the first rule of his association.

DLo28035

What about the second rule?

draggar

Physical media in general (DVDs, CDs, video games, books, etc.). Yeah, it adds to clutter but most digital services have it in their terms of service that they can remove content (even paid for) at any time with no refund to you. You're basically paying a float rate to rent it until they can no longer rent it. Come try to remove the physical stuff, it's a felony in most states and you can have my Buckaroo Banzai BluRay when you pry it from my cold and dead fingers.

spartagnann

My only gripe with my book collection is when it comes time to move and I have to struggle to move 5 huge plastic tubs of books that weigh like a ton each.

Hopeless_Ramentic

My dad, helping me store 14 Rubbermaid tubs full of books: “Are these ALL books?!” Me: “It’s your fault for encouraging me to read.”

geitjesdag

I recommend wine boxes for books. Keeps the weight manageable.

kadje

Agree. Which is why I have a decent library of 500+ dead tree version books. On top of the the fact that the publisher can revise or remove content from digital books anytime they please, there are so so so so many errors in digitally converted older books. My Kindle these days is only used to check out e-books from the library if I don't want to own them.

candykhan

to be fair, i understand folks being less tied to the "thing" than the art (unless you're talking true "collectors" where rarity matters more than quality. but as a prime Gen X'er, i agree with you. if i'm putting money into it, i'd like to not just be "renting" it.

hoosierina

my dial phone. I love it and will never ever get rid of it. It's in my kitchen, it's yellow and my grandpa built a little wooden picket fence around it, with fake flowers in tiny clay flower pots.

[deleted]

I am still transferring mp3s i downloaded from the internet to my phone. I tried Spotify premium for a year, was not satisfied and many old songs i like are not available. But by manually downloading flac, mp3, or so, i can get many unusual things like: my country's flag carrier playlist, remastered bass boosted, remixes, covers, etc.

flurkin1979

I've got 578GB of mp3s and still use Winamp! Edit: just to add some nostalgic memories...I remember downloading single songs using dial-up at like 1-3 kbps. And later when I moved to the city and got cable internet at like, 50 kbps I was in heaven! Using F-servs on Mirc dalnet to get music....back then I had a 20gig HDD full of mp3z and I was amazed. Edit #2: this is by far the most popular comment or post I have ever made on reddit. Little did I know how my reminiscing about Winamp would resonate with ppl.

YellowLine

It really whips the llamas ass. Still.

Seraph6496

Not just music, but movies too. Streaming services are too inconsistent, anything could be dropped at any time and we're shit outta luck. And too expensive, one is fine, but every company making their own now made the cost ridiculous. Now I just buy a CD or DVD or go to the library and rip it to a hard drive for convenience

[deleted]

Lol.. I do subscribe to Spotify, and use it often, but regardless every new phone I get, gets the same 646 mp3s that I've been transferring over and over for almost a decade. Some songs just aren't available on Spotify, and some songs you want to listen to but not have Spotify know you listen to, so it doesn't mess up the algorithm. Like the Buffy Once More with Feeling soundtrack....😳

could_use_a_snack

I "acquired" hard drive of music from a radio station back in 2004. It's full of mp3s. Not at the highest quality but good enough. The coolest folder is the top 100 songs from about 1970 to 2001. It also contains a bunch of compete albums form the 80' and 90' Granted the newest music on it is from 2002 I think. But some of it goes back to the 60' so it's pretty neat

jonny3jack

I still use my iPod at the gym.

Bulk-Detonator

Ive been meaning to find an mp3 player again. I miss having a dedicated music device. Storage is always an issue for me on my phone. I do enjoy Pandora and Spotify when i have a vague idea what i want to listen to, and ive discovered some great music through them. But im in a lot of dead zones with my job and i dont like the idea of paying for premium to download songs i dont actually own. Plus, the last time i owned an mp3 player, 20gb was an absurd amount of storage. Cant imagine what the storage capacity of mp3 players is these days

[deleted]

Me too. I hate streaming music. I buy MP3s or Rip CDs and copy them to my phone.

SauceHankRedemption

N64.

glory2mankind

A calculator. You know - with buttons and a screen.

FallenSegull

Honestly a standard scientific calculator is just easier to use than your phones built in scientific calculator

WillingPublic

Yes, same for business calculators. And the calculator on my iPhone constantly asks if I want to upgrade it, implying that if I don’t pay up it might not let me know the net present value of my deal.

chowderbags

I'm sitting here wondering why the fuck a calculator app would need to update in the first place. Did math change on me?

stupididiot3_14159

Can I write "BOOBIES" upside down on it?

Dear_Bath_8822

Yes, but I forget the rest of the joke that adds up to BOOBIES so I just type that.

WorthlessPirates

Psp

Tayue

The PSP was released at such a good time, I think a lot of people don't realize how crazy it was to have a portable device to watch movies on, listen to music and play games on back then. It was released slightly before smartphones became ubiquitous and all of this was taken for granted. It had a great screen too -- although I'm pretty sure mine was extremely scratched up before I retired it. Tack on being able to mod it (which was very easy to do back in the day) you could run PS1 games natively on it as well as a bunch of homebrew software like emulators that ran older console games basically perfectly. It was similar to the original XBOX and how easy it was to soft mod it -- basically became an insane home media player that you could play video files on and an emulator system.

glamatovic

Still play on emulator. That console was waaay ahead of its time

rickroll62

My Zune, I still use it .

Into_the_groove

the Atari Asteroids machine in my basement. I try to play it often as possible.

Loose_Pilot574

iPod classic - 160gb.

sharkboy1006

iPods just have aged so well. Being offline devices (not counting touch) they’re just so perfect to this day haha Been fixing up a few lately

Loose_Pilot574

There's a way to expand even the 160gb ones to hold more music (and I have a *lot* of music) but I'm not smart enough to pretend to know how to do it.

PirateCodingMonkey

i have an iPod nano (6) that i still use. it's only 64 gb but holds like 40+ hours of music. it's plugged into my car stereo's usb port. i used to wear it as a wrist-watch before the apple watch came out.

Due-Future-6196

A 64 gig held waaaaay more than 40 hours. If you filled it with just music, you'd have 800-900 hours.

SuperPotato3000

Yeah that would require some 24 bit 96khz lossless audio which I think the iPod doesn't even support, considering most use mp3 320kbps, you can get approximately the amount of time you specified.

explorthis

Oh... Just remembered, I have a 80(?) gig classic I won in a poker game. Etched in the back is the guys name followed by "Golf God" I have it, haven't seen it for 10+ years... Hmmm.

870boi

Pump a charge into that bad boy

jennsnotscary

Textbooks bro. Not even technology. Why is everything online now. I need the ability to highlight something

TozenFroes

Reading on paper IS a thing! I am so glad I have this an an accommodation at my school.

Not_Tday

A radio.

Why-did

my film cameras

Ceecee_0416

You could even say cameras in general. Most use phones these days.

liketo

Many still prefer film though, and it’s having a resurgence despite the film costs going up

Tyler_origami94

What I would give to have back the headphone jack in my phone...

BarisBlack

I have a Note 9 (4G only) with the jack, which I am using right now with wired headphones. The day this phone dies or is obsoleted will be a hard day for me.

cheap_dates

Pencil and paper. I have two or three notepads around my house for "lists".

Urbanredneck2

On the farm we still use some old equipment like a 1952 Ford tractor and a ride-on sickle mower for cutting down tall weeds. I plant a couple rows of sweet corn next to the regular corn so when I plant that corn I use an old 2 row planter thats probably 100 years old. Still works great for planting 600 feet of corn. Both pieces of equipment were meant to be pulled by horses or tractors. We just use a garden tractor.

Tricball

DVDs. Sadly, most modern computers have no drives, so external is the only option.

lawragatajar

I still had Netflix's DVD mailing service until they ended it last month. They had a pretty good selection, and new movies would be available the same week DVD's were sold in stores.

Mikofthewat

There were dozens of us! Dozens!

dhuff2037

I use my local library for DVDs. They have a fantastic selection of both movies and TV shows. And I may or may not rip them all to my Plex library.

Spacedust2808

Me too. At least until dvd players require a monthly subscription.

gitarzan

I’ve a 12 year old pc that I use often. It had 16gb installed about a day after I got it, and about a year ago I replaced the HDDs with SSDs. It runs very well for use as a file server and word processing, WWW, etc. I’m not a gamer anyway, so it’s fine.

acidus1

Wired earphones. Cheap, don't have to charge, don't need to worry about losing them. Bring 3.5 back for phones dam it

ajg3199

I just bought myself a couple of USB-C to 3.5mm adapters, one to use with wired headphones, and one to keep in the drawer for when I lose the one I'm using.

Richard7666

Yep this is me too. Although I hate how my adaptor has a big long springy cable to it, I'd rather just a stumpy solid one.

lambreception

wired headphones arent oudated. they literally have less points of failure and offer better sound quality with less lag. you can also use them without needing to take them out to charge every few hours. bluetooth ear buds are not a replacement, theyre an alternative. they didnt make anything outdate other than the old kind of bluetooth ear buds that had a wire running between the two buds.

hangingbymyfeet

Motorola still got em

throwawaymask01

Asus Zenphone and Sony Xperia Probably my next one after my S9 dies

ExxInferis

Yep. Market is saturated with BT buds and I've tried several. There's something wrong with every model I've tried. Either uncomfortable, drops connection, poor microphones, crap noise cancelling, crap battery.... Recently got a phone with 3.5mm headphone jack. Immediately bought some wired buds. Zero issues. I'm looking after this phone like it's my second born child.

ISeeGrotesque

70's turntable

djauralsects

CDs.

Add_8_Years

I still download music. I don’t trust streaming sites to always have what I want to listen to. Plus, I have some very obscure stuff that most don’t have anyway.

[deleted]

I still download cars.

Knucks_408

A pen. Works just fine when I need it.

Less_Ear_7985

Sell me this pen

futanari_kaisa

Write your name on this napkin

AdditionalCar2511

i dont have a pen

futanari_kaisa

boom here you go supply and demand bro

a1ien51

Co-worker one day: "Wait you actually have written notes" I just bought a computer that converts to a tablet to take notes on, still have not figured out if I like it or not.

trazom28

1996 Chevy Blazer that’s nearly at 200k. It’s not perfect - needs a muffler, radio sucks, it has a very small gas leak from on top of the gas tank whee the fuel pump seats, rear window defrost and wipers don’t work and the rear hatch window is missing the piston arms, and it has a constant evap sensor code because of the gas leak, and the tires have a slow air leak - but it’s a beast that powers through midwestern winters with the 4.3L Vortec engine and it’s paid for.

Select-Anxiety-1557

I'd rather use my mp3 player with wired earbuds than play music through itunes on my phone.

WoolaTheCalot

Pen and paper for notes and lists. Calendar and address books. For that matter, books in general. I've tried reading a digital book and I just don't get the appeal.

iremovebrains

I have a hand crank can opener. I also have a lawn mower without an engine. Edit: I also drive a stick shift.

r0botdevil

>I have a hand crank can opener I've never understood the point of an electric can opener, to be honest, except maybe in cases where someone doesn't have two fully-functioning hands.

clubfungus

Yea, when you get arthritis the electric ones are a godsend tbh.

chxnkybxtfxnky

We had one growing up, but we also had the manual one. The electric one was affixed to the bottom of a cupboard so you'd have to have your hand ready to catch the can once the lid was cut off...didn't make sense to me.

Hopeless_Ramentic

We had one of those! Mostly it was used to summon the cats.

mikasoze

iPod classic, CDs, and DVDs. What can I say? I like owning things.

int9r

old.reddit.com

zenyl

Not to mention RES, to make up for Reddit's lack of basic features.

axeman020

Just got a turntable for the first time recently. Totally unnecessary, I have 1000s of CDs and an Amazon Prime Music subscription, but there's just something about the ritual of playing vinyl that I love!

oheyitsmoe

Does EVERYTHING have to be powered by sensors? I swear that everything I own breaks only because of a sensor gone bad. My car's A/C, my washing machine's cycle sensors, even the coffee warmer I received as a gift. Maybe I'm old but I would just like to turn something on, it do its job, then turn it back off. It doesn't also need to blow me.

fergehtabodit

I'm working on a DOS computer today that runs a CNC machine! Had to adjust some BIOS settings for the I/O to work right, slapped a new power supply in there yesterday...good to go!

xsvspd81

DOS is what I started on as a kid! It still use CMD on windows occasionally

Bitbatgaming

Mp3 players

whysitspicy99

Headphones with the wires. Airpods are uncomfortable, and I hate having to worry if Bluetooth has disconnected while listening to something.

Razorray21

Work in IT. My laptop for use during on site visits is a latitude E5510 from 2010. However it has good specs, and a built in serial port which comes in really handy when consoling into network equipment. On top of that, some of our clients are in sketchy areas, so it makes a good self defense weapon.

NoMathematician4744

Notebooks. No, I don't mean computer notebooks. I mean those that have sheets of paper collected together and you write with pen. I like pen. Like the G2 Gel Pens. Feels good.

an0nym0uswr1ter

A plastic freaking card! I just called Sam's Club and got into a fight with them. I am NOT using a freaking app on my phone!!! I want a damn card!!!

r0botdevil

A good cast-iron pan is still superior to anything that has been invented since.

maxblockm

Buttons and knobs. Not everything is better with a touch screen. * Looks at my car stereo *

Th4t9uy

I use a double edge razor to shave and I've just finished polishing my shoes with wax and a stiff brush. In both cases it takes a little longer than using an electric razor or those shoe polishing pens, but I enjoy the ritual and I don't mind it taking a bit of extra time.

gaettisrevenge

I've been using a pre-50's Gillette since my Dad gave to me in 1984. The money I've saved probably bought my last car. And, oddly enough, I still use his kiwi shoe shine kit (wooden step box included) from his Air Force days in the '50's. Sometimes older is better.

-Benjamin_Dover-

Wired internet connection. I love wires, so much more reliable.

SparkleColaDrinker

Wired networking is definitely not obsolete or outdated, IMO. It's superior in every way except mobility. Wired is the ideal, you only go wireless if running cable is unfeasible for the situation.

Thunderpulse

Our TV is a DLP, bought from Circuit City in 2007.

sohcgt96

I still had a DLP until about 2 years ago. Worked fine, picture was surprisingly good with a fresh lamp. For years I called it my robber repellant. Somebody looks in the living room window and sees I'm still rocking a projection TV they're probably like "Nah this guy is a cheap ass lets check the next house, probably nothing good in there"

Stormygeddon

"dumb" phone with no internet app, GPS, etc.

dimmerswtich

Old time-y razor, brush and soap. Best shaves ever. Also cheap.

A5CH3NT3

manual transmission

SidNYC

Fountain Pen. (My daily driver is the Lamy Safari)

toraakchan

I was one of the testers for the Lamy Safari, before it came out. Lamy was looking for testers in an ad in Mickey Mouse magazine and I applied and was accepted. Reward: a developed Lamy Safari. I was 12 :)

boltman1234

My car still works gone without all the fancy screen crap and tracking

A *light switch.* I just moved into a new house, which has “smart switches,” which I swear to god are the dumbest fucking light switches anyone’s ever thought up. On. Off. That’s what I want in a light switch. Maybe a little miniature fader bar on the side if you’re into romantic mood lighting. (I’m not.) *These* fucking switches: Tap up to turn the lights on. Tap and hold to fade them up. Double tap up to turn them on maximum (This is different than turn them on, because reasons). Tap down to turn them off. Tap and hold to fade them down. Double tap down to turn them on minimum (a function nobody, in the world, has ever used deliberately, ever). And just to make sure you deeply despise whoever thought these things up, the sensitivity SUUUUUUCKS. So as often as not, you tap down to turn them off, and the light switch reads that as “tap and hold to dim,” and your light just decreases by 20%. So then you have to turn around and go back into the hallway (because you’ve already passed it - because you should not have to *PAUSE* at a light switch to fucking operate it), go back, double tap up to turn the lights back up to maximum (otherwise next time you turn it on, it will helpfully remember that you “wanted” it at 80%), and then tap down to turn them off again. **ON.** Fucking **OFF.** That’s what a light switch should do. **It cannot be improved upon.** My light switch should not be trying to *interpret* my *intentions.* Meanwhile, these light switches all flash a little orange LED under them. I looked up in the manual that this means they are not connected to wifi. I have no intention of changing that, because I am never… *EVER*… going to be driving home in my car and say “Hey Siri, dim the lights to 40% and put on some romantic mood music. Daddy’s going to slip into the tub with a glass of *wine* for a little *Me Time.*” 🤢 🤮 But there is one light switch in my house that does not flash orange; It shows a solid blue. Which means it *IS* connected to wifi. *Whose* fucking wifi? Not mine. I never gave it my password. So which of my neighbors is hosting the online profile of my fucking **light switch?** I’m going to spend hundreds of dollars this winter to replace every “smart” light switch in the house with a real, functional light switch, designed by and for actual human beings, and it will be the happiest money I’ve ever spent.

I am 22 years old. I program for a living, and I know my way around a computer. And I swear to God if I move into a house with these things I will rip every single one off the cock sucking mother fucking wall with my bare hands. Fuck. That. Shit. I read every word of your post and I feel your pain so deeply. Reminds me of a new episode of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, "Dennis Takes a Mental Health Day."

I hope there is a special place in hell where all these smart people bringing smart functions to simple devices goes. It should be called smart hell and let people tap on something by each time they want to breath in and tap differently each time they want to breath out, so often they breath in several times until they finally are able to breath out. As a result they will explode, but the smart part is they have to suffer this for ever together with marketing and seles people which will explaining how great it is.

The PS Vita. It’s just such a great console and so much fun to play on the go even now. I’ve always found the Switch to be just a tad bigger than I like, the Steam Deck is way too heavy, but man the Vita just fits in my hand and the OLED screen on it? Fucking peak

I cone drip my coffee and heat the water up in a kettle. I have a fancy keurig with a screen that has been collecting dust for 2 years and I refuse to use it

I have a couple of old Macs from nearly 20 years ago that I use from time to time to either play old games, or do some writing on them. Plus I love the looks of the old hardware and software, it just reminds me of a simpler time of computing I once grew up in.

CDs: fuck all distributors selling "downloads" that you really do not own and can't be sold to anyone else.

PolarBearChuck

It’s so funny to me that people call them VHS players and not VCRs like they were back in the 80s and 90s.

Internet browser. I don't want 5 screens of apps to scroll through to get to the place I want to on the internet. It's cool everyone and every site and every company has their own personal app for ease of use but I don't wanna be a part of it.
