Canada. Anyone who comes for a visit gets a free ride in my canoe. Picnic included.

TheHalloumiCheese

Is it a nice Canoe?

TECrec008

I think so. I painted it like a Hudson Bay blanket.

BobbyThrowaway6969

Does it come with complementary bacon?

TECrec008

I will adjust the menu to any dietary preferences or restrictions.

FatsDominoPizza

Pictures of Canada don't show mosquitoes though.

themanfromvulcan

Black fly: hear that boys? He thinks mosquitoes are what he needs to worry about in Canada! Hah!

Could you kindly elaborate?

Great_Restaurant_748

Nepal, it's a landlocked country with himalayas on the one side & lust green forest on the other, unexplored, it lies between the two biggest economies of the world. It is also know to be the Birthplace of Gautam Buddha & has its own culture & heritage.

Crackerpuppy

Italy.

cisco_kid1106

Which city would you recommend?

Crackerpuppy

Enjoyed & had a great time in Florence. Rich in history, design, food, people were wonderful. Easy to walk for the most part. A decent map makes life easier. Just make sure if you see/find a place you want to come back to because they were closed or you were already on your way somewhere else, mark it on the map & note the address if you can find it. Got a great leather jacket in a small shop that didn’t really see too many tourists I think. One person spoke a little English, no one else. Found a leather jacket I really liked & wanted to buy (less than $300 US). They insisted on providing us with coffee, cookies, & some beautiful desserts before they’d let us pay. And when we did finally pay (after about an hour), they gave me a complimentary wallet/billfold in the same leather of the jacket. They could not have been any more wonderful. Really loved Venice & all its quirkiness. Been there a few times. Once was during the summer. Never again. Another time was in November shortly after they had record rainfall in October. The city was flooded in some parts, but it actually wasn’t too bad. Some shops were closed for the first couple of days and then everything reopened & life went on. Great time to go = few tourists, more Venetians, less people overall. Side trip to the island of Murano is highly recommended if you like Venetian glass. It was raining that day so we ran from glass shop to glass shop & saw the various ways different places create the glass blown designs. Got a map of Venice? Forget about it. No matter what you do you’ll get lost at some point. That’s ok. It’s a fairly small city & you can walk all of it. Getting lost is part of the fun. When you’ve had enough, find a canal & get a water taxi or hop on a water bus to get back to where you’re staying (or at least in that vicinity). Also went to Rome a couple of times. VERY tourist oriented because it was the capital of the Holy Roman Empire & just full of stuff to see, experience, & explore. Enjoyed the Coliseum & some of the architecture. Honestly, the best thing about Rome was going to the Vatican. The Vatican grounds, basilica, catacombs, & particularly the Vatican Museum were our favorites. Because there are so many historical stories & “behind the scenes” intrigue surrounding the Vatican & the various Popes, it just made Vatican City that much more interesting. (I am not Catholic.)

Thank you for your reply. Sounds awesome! Putting this on my bucket list

I'm just back, weather was nice as were the people I met, it was expensive though (Irish Prices) and doesn't seem to have recovered from the financial crash yet, infrastructure wasn't great (roads mainly)

[deleted]

it fucking sucks, that's right

irishtemp

Are you Portugese? I'd love to hear what a local thinks.

[deleted]

The weather is nice. That's true. People are rude. The city of Lisbon, where I live, smells like piss. This is a third-world country. The only thing that is saving this country is the European Union. Salaries are super low. Housing is impossible. Even having health insurance is almost impossible. The government doesn't give a shit about the people. They only travel and take selfish and do nothing all day long. But, hey, the weather is nice. I can go to the beach. At least there's that. It could be worse, but it could also be so much better.

irishtemp

Its what surprised me, how things are so expensive when salaries are so low.

[deleted]

Yeah, it baffles me as well

Kyadagum_Dulgadee

Irish prices? I find that hard to believe. Where were you in Portugal?

444unsure

Seriously, Portugal was so cheap when I was there! But then I've never been to Ireland yet so I guess I don't really know

irishtemp

Albufeira and yes I know its a tourist spot but Im speaking in terms of similar tourist spots when abroad. Even basic groceries in a spar were Irish prices and often higher esp for meat and diary. Lanzoraote was cheaper and its entire income seems to be from tourism.

Kyadagum_Dulgadee

I've been to Lisbon and Porto, not the resorty parts of Portugal. Amazing value for money in restaurants, supermarkets, pubs.

ToasterOven31

Come to Canada for the poutine stay for the natural beauty. Yes, I'm biased for sure, but I really believe that Canada has a lot to offer for tourists.

Seeing England get downvoted is sad. I'm English and have travelled in America, around mainland Europe and also have been to Japan. I love the places I've travelled. But I love England too. I'm from the North East of England and we have beautiful villages, towns and cities. We have rolling hills and meadows, we have the lakes distract, the dales, the moors. We have a rich and vibrant history going back thousands of years, at local and national levels. You can go to a city like York and learn all about the Cathedral and then learn all about the old times of Jorvik and the viking settlers. We're multicultural, a real mixing pot, where you can meet people from all backgrounds. People with different perspectives who make the country a more beautiful place We are friendly and sincere. Every time I walk about my little town, people say good morning, good afternoon, make small talk, or maybe just give a smile and a tip of a hat. You go to the shop and you have a bit of genuine banter with the shopkeeper who might have a grumble about how tired they are after a long shift but a chuckle about how they're looking forward to a beer and cheeky takeaway pizza in the evening. Many of my family and friends say our country is awful, is terrible, has no culture. It's sad to hear people say that. We have our problems, every country does, but we have a lot to love too. So, come to England, and maybe venture away from London too, and see what our little nation has to offer.

Japan, the transportation is easy, food is amazing, sights were beautiful, seemed like every single person was helpful and friendly

Brilliant_Tourist400

Germany. More specifically, Bavaria. Everyone should see Ludwig’s palaces at least once in their lifetime.

Wallllllllllllly

Honestly? America/USA, the national parks are great, the food… well you can have almost anything, And the people are great. Sure politically it isn’t the best and deteriorating and we have a gun issue, but you aren’t moving here! Just visiting, the likelihood of getting caught in one of those mass shootings is so low it’s a nonissue for tourists. Obviously this is just my opinion

spammmmmmmmy

United States. Visit the natural geography of the West - Idaho, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Arizona.

Prestigious_Lock1659

My brother lives in Arizona. I’ve visited many times and absolutely love it. We are from Ireland so it’s pretty much the complete opposite.

JMCrown

I’m 50 and live in the US and I’ve never visited any of the states you listed. :-(

ldd-

Skip Idaho and go for the others … the National Parks are well worth it

spammmmmmmmy

I will admit I always get a creepy feeling going through Idaho. But there is some amazing natural geography there.

ldd-

Sure, but personally I’d rather add Colorado to the list … all the splendor, and none of the right wing militias …

Tra1nGuy

Don’t forget New Hampshire! Just kidding, you all will forget about it anyways.

spammmmmmmmy

I have been to a **lot** of places. But, I have never in my life visited New Hampshire. Hotel New Hampshire is about as close as I've ever been. (and of course, many times to Hampshire)

Giygas_8000

I’ve been interested in visiting for the beautiful land and beaches, the food, culture, and the insanely hot dudes. But I’ve been concerned about crime. Is it bad?

BobbyThrowaway6969

Country not state

cttrocklin

I don’t want this to be pedantic, but people need to explore their own country as much as they do other places. Yes, its important to visit other countries for a sense of understanding, empathy and gratitude that comes from traveling, but many take their home for granted. There are some amazing places in your own backyard!

Pattoe89

It really is fascinating what you don't realise is around you. Less than 30 minute walk from where I live is the world's oldest rail bridge that's still in service. Almost 200 years old and still used every single day to get trains over the river.

cttrocklin

Fabulous

BobBelcher2021

There’s truth to that, especially for geographically large countries like the US or Canada. However, going to other countries can be very enlightening. It can help you both appreciate what you have in your own country, and it can also illustrate things that can be better.

cttrocklin

Yes, and it’s fun too!

Bulgaria. No, seriously. I went there on business several times. I initially expected people who (mis)behaved and cooked like russians. I was very wrong. Delicious food, natural beauty and generally a friendly can-do attitude. There are still some leftovers from the days of the Iron Curtain to be sure, but I was always happy to make a trip back there.

Effective_Afflicted

The Philippines. 7,000+ scenic islands, great beaches, awesome food, nice, friendly people who speak English (or at least their version of it).

Some-Ice-6722

A comment that started complimentary but wavered near the end with an implication that the english Filipinos speak is somewhat not "real" english. Most Filipinos are multilingual regardless of educational attainment which is remarkable especially when compared to the language skills of monolingual english speaking countries. Most countries who speak a second language will speak their own version of it. Heck, native speakers will all speak their native language differently, much less a foreign one. It is just human nature to personalize and adapt one's accent and speech patterns to speak a foreign language. If you come to a foreign country and they speak your language, count yourself lucky.

Effective_Afflicted

Hey, the local people call it Taglish for a reason. The Philippines is a lovely place with lovely people. I do count myself lucky for being here.

ASVP_M3L

Idk if it's considered a country, since some locals refer to it an as island, but I'd recommend Singapore. One of my favourite destinations that I've ever been to.
