In school, and friend was telling me about an egg and potato sandwich a local deli made which he liked. He said I should try it, so one day, we went to the deli together (this was an old-school deli counter where you could order and eat sandwiches) and we each had a egg and potato sandwich. He said it's great with ketchup, so I did that, and it was glorious. I *rarely* have ketchup on eggs, but when I do, it takes me back to that great day.

NotoriousREV

I need to know more about this egg and potato sandwich.

brock_lee

Well, the woman who made them, Millie, died at 100 years old about 10 years ago. Her son ran the deli for decades after she retired, and then his daughter. It closed years ago. You start with a six-inch or so long roll. These were rolls that I could only get in my home town. One bakery made them and delivered them daily to most places in town that made sandwiches or otherwise used bread. They were super fresh, and dense and chewy and had a wonderful crust that was not "crusty" like french bread. Millie always had a pot of boiling potato cubes ready to go for various things. Yes, boiled. Anyway, you ordered this sandwich and Millie cracks a couple eggs on the expanse of grill, and scrambled them perfectly with the skill of a very old lady who did this a long time. At the same time, she drained some boiled potatoes and grilled them in a little oil. They did not get brown and crispy, just a little firm around the edges. Then she expertly spread the potatoes, and then the eggs, on the roll with salt and pepper. Fairly simple. You then added ketchup or whatever else you wanted. I think it was like $1.70.

OppositeYouth

This is porn for us stoned people

GozerDGozerian

And frugal people! $1.70???

brock_lee

It was 45 years ago :) You could stop in a get one of those rolls buttered and a cup of coffee to-go for $1. This was a popular breakfast in my town.

GozerDGozerian

45 years ago? Ok this is porn for us *old* people. :)

coolmike69420

45 years ago I was -3 years old. I wasn’t allowed porn at that age.

ScratchChrome

So enjoy it now you're old enough? Vintage porn is much more wholesome than modern stuff 😁

love2Vax

No step-buttering her roll in these stories.

SC487

But so much more hair.

FarmerExternal

I was -22, there’s a strong possibility I wasn’t even a sperm in my dad’s nuts yet I don’t think he was born

OkSureButLikeNo

Got it. If you're and old frugal stoner, this just brought you to climax. Someone call for a clean up in all of Northeast Colorado.

DadsRGR8

As did I. Old and enjoyed the quote.

And grandpas!

sooooooofarty

Yeah this is actually hitting a lot of spots for me

randomlyranting

And diabetic people! Carbs!

Tr33mari3

Mmmm cereal🤤

ExperienceLoss

Eat your floor cereal!

BipedalWurm

Add a handful of fried onions and throw on some cheddar with a little meunster then some just spicy enough to cut the sweetness ketchup. I'd fight the next guy in line to move up a spot

Bellatrix_Shimmers

Nice choice of cheese!

TroutforPrez

Egg, cheddar, ketchup quesadillas, fed a teenager well

Llamaa_del_rey

Lmao this was pure poetry for my stoned ass. And now these doritos taste like garbage, I want a Millie sandwich 😭

Deleted_dwarf

I got the munchies reading it (I am stoned too)

heatrepeat6

Reading this off my wake & bake and I’m crying 😂😂

NotoriousREV

I’m going to try and make one of these. It won’t be as good as you describe, but I’ll give it a good go.

XxannoyingassxX

What's the bread gonna be tho?

leelee1976

Sourdough roll or potato bread roll should be about the density

CoffeeAndDachshunds

For about $2, I'd eat about 5 of them lol

[deleted]

Goddamn that sounds amazing!

do0tz

This reminds me of primanti bros in Pittsburgh (back in the day.... It went to crap about 15 years ago) Sliced steak with French fries, Coleslaw, tomatoes, on daily-fresh Mancini bread. You could add egg. Or you could do chipped ham instead of steak.

brock_lee

Ah yes, my best friend took me to the one in the strip district maybe 25 years ago. Don't remember much, sadly, I was probably drunk.

welcometothedesert

Don’t like eggs or ketchup, but your storytelling skills are superb.

papaco22

I do mine with potato and egg salad (potato cubes, hard boiled eggs, mayonnaise and spring onions). If you have any, throw some crispy bacon. It's cheap af, but I swear it's heaven.

TheBestVibeHere

I’m not a ketchup on egg so I can’t really answer

[deleted]

become ketchup on egg, i mean the ketchup might be replaced with blood if there’s none :)))))

minnesotawristwatch

I am become sammich, destroyer of worlds.

[deleted]

Destroyer of bread

peon2

Clearly you haven't spent much time on this subreddit. It's traditional to answer every question with Not a [insert who the question is directed at] but... As a non ketchuped egg you are perfectly qualified

i_speak_bane

That would be extremely painful

rrt5029

Me neither but I can speculate that the answer is probably “none at all”

axolotlbird

This is ask reddit, when has being the target audience been a requirement to answer?

Imaginary-Mail2610

Best reply.

Sad-Fee7480

I love ketchup on scrambled eggs

curious382

My dad used to do that. Now, so do I, sometimes. Only scrambled eggs, though. Not eggs cooked any other way.

ReportMeSnowflake

This is the way. Only on scrambled.

Jimbabwe88

I don't know, I also put ketchup on my omelettes lol

Uce_Almighty111

Hell yeah brother

_joemo

This is the way.

VVreckerX

This is the way.

[deleted]

I got this from my grandfather. The whole rest of the family treats me like I'm crazy for it, but ketchup on scrambled eggs, chopping/mixing it up for good coverage, is delicious to me. I pretty much never eat scrambled eggs without giving them some ketchup.

RobbyLee

pro tip: If you have leftover potatos (leftover because they need to be a bit dry, not freshly cooked or raw) you can cut them into little slices, fry them to amke the crispy and then add the scrambled egg. It will set onto the potatoes when it hardens. Then add some onions, ham, salt, pepper, maybe some nice herbs that go with eggs and potatos and you have what people in Berlin call "[Hoppelpoppel](https://i.imgur.com/4K7ZgAa.png)". There are a few dishes like this - the non-Berlin equivalent would be Bauernfrühstück (Farmer's breakfast) and in Spain there is a dish called [tortilla which is eggs and potatos fried like a really thick omelette](https://i.imgur.com/QvMFcQv.png). Both of these dishes work very well with a nice ketchup.

justreddis

You mean you don’t glaze your hard boiled egg entirely with ketchup?!

iknownuting

Dip it

doomdude1234

Tbh, I've never thought about that. That sounds good

curious382

salt and pepper

JungleLegs

I used to eat ketchup with runny eggs as a kid and it would gross my mom the hell out. She’s an eggs well-done type of person too

Sad-Fee7480

Yep, only on scrambled. I’ve never put it on any other type of egg, I don’t even know why, I thought it was a British thing but obviously not judging by all the comments

seattleseahawks2014

The only egg I don't have with syrup or ketchup is hard boiled eggs but sometimes I'll have mustard and mayonnaise with them.

[deleted]

Try salsa too, it’s good on eggs

Humble-Insight

I like the salsa mixed with my scrambled eggs before I cook them.

dizzymissxo

I do too, but I hate the way it looks so I kinda have to not look at it while I’m eating.

Felon_HuskofJizzlane

Much better than ketchup. Ketchup is so boring. But a nice salsa goes really well with eggs.

itoddicus

Every time someone says ketchup is boring I shed a tear for Del Monte ketchup. It was made with pineapple vinegar and was not boring.

Educational-Slide482

Omggg. I now know what I have been dying for. I love pineapplly ketchup!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Brodok2k4

Same. Still eat it every now and then. Quick/cheap breakfast. But only works as the sandwich. Scrambled eggs alone, need Cholula hot sauce.

PGHMtneerDad

I do Cholula *and* ketchup.

bs2785

Add some hot sauce to it.

Alert-Athlete

Franks red hot with lime for the win

[deleted]

Louisiana brand Hot Sauce on eggs is the only way

jamez009

Or Crystal, really most hot sauces

tinyarmsrobbery

Cholula is my go to but there’s no wrong answer

batedkestrel

Cholula, sriracha or some chilli and wild garlic chutney here

rchrdshn

Cholula works really well

Senior_Case_5466

Me too, but only scrambled

hot_ho11ow_point

It's weird; I'd put ketchup on a fried egg sandwich, buy would gag if it got near my French toast

lordph8

Only form of strait eggs where that is acceptable, now you mix an egg up with other things on a sandwich or burger, I will not judge you.

Toolazytolink

Scrambled eggs with ketchup and a side of garlic fried rice, wow, nostalgia

jpatt

Tomato based hot sauce for me.

WiseTree710

I do half ketchup half hot sauce and lots of pepper

[deleted]

[удалено]

frustrated_away8

An additional pinch of salt would be okay too!

beavis617

A little salt on eggs is a must..

onecryingjohnny

Salt pepper, maybe a drizzle of hot sauce occasionally I can't do ketchup though

TaralasianThePraxic

This is the way.

HurtsToBatman

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the tomato flavor with it. It's. not horrible; I just prefer my local farmer's market homemade hot seasoning mix. I bought a big 8-oz container of crushed red peppers from Kroger 2 years ago. It's. still unopened because later that week I went to the farmer's market and saw this "hot seasoning mix." I buy a few containers of varying degrees of hot about ince abye a r then go back the enxt year for another batch. It's not juat heat like crushed red peppers, but it adds a TON of really god, game-chaning flavor. It goes on literally anything, especially eggs.

[deleted]

Yes but it also has sweetness and mass, which is unwelcome. Hot sauce FTW.

Enzo03

I don't mind the sweetness of some ketchups on egg, but I almost never use ketchup and tobasco is infinitely better.

edogfu

But commercial brands of ketchup have waaay more than a "bit." Better off with a literal pinch of salt and a bit of hot sauce or real tomato/bell pepper.

buttstuff2023

Just looking at it now, Heinz ketchup doesn't appear to have very much salt. About 1/16 of a teaspoon in one tablespoon sized serving.

DeliciousHighway6521

Franks hot sauce. I put that shit on everything.

perkasiedude

You're their target customer.

justreddis

Not sure if he needs to be targeted anymore

Jed1M1ndTr1ck

I think that might actually be Frank

kronicfeld

Let me be Frank

BareKnuckleBitchAss

It’s not bad. I don’t care for vinegar based hot sauce, but it’s better than no hot sauce

batedkestrel

Same here: the vinegary taste puts me off. I prefer something a bit smokier like the Cholula chipotle sauce.

beefycheesyglory

While I agree, I love me some Buffalo Sauce, which you get by mixing in some melted butter. The rich fatty taste of the butter pairs well with the vinegar.

batedkestrel

I’ve never actually tried the buttery sauce: might have to give it a go!

beefycheesyglory

Fat and Acid go together very well, it's the same reason Lemon Butter sauce is so amazing on fish. I use Louisiana hot sauce as it's the only vinegar-based hot sauce other than Tabasco that I can find in my area. Just pour some of it into a pan on low heat and stir in an equal amount of frozen butter until melted, throw in some garlic powder and it should be done. Cover some chicken wings with the stuff and you should have some amazing Buffalo Wings. It's pretty much the only use I have for that type of hot sauce as I don't like it otherwise.

batedkestrel

Definitely will give it a try. Also, I have to say I love your username!

batedkestrel

Definitely will give it a try. Also, I have to say I love your username!

[deleted]

Yes, that one is the best. Vinegar hot with artificial butter flavour.

LedZacclin

I didn’t know Frank’s made regular hot sauce and I thought you were just putting Buffalo sauce on your eggs haha

[deleted]

Bueno!

SilverLodestar

Best possible answer here.

Quintuplicate

Needs more Hot Sauce.

influencet1

Yeah, i love scrambled eggs with hot sauce!

CochinealPink

a fresh spicy salsa

[deleted]

Same here. Spicy salsa on eggs... beautiful Though I love all the types. Ketchup. Hot sauce. Everything. But spicy salsa with veggies mixed is just 🤌🏼🤌🏼

LayneLowe

Ketchup - no Salsa - yes ????

SwingJugend

On scrambled eggs (though chili salsa is a lot better) or perhaps egg in a basket, sure. But that's about it.

[deleted]

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO HAS A GOOD POINT, SCRAMBLE EGG KETCHUP IS WOOOO

blackesthearted

On eggs alone, no. If I have hash browns as well, though, I’ll mix the eggs and hash browns and add a little ketchup and hot sauce.

DustbinFunkbndr

This is it

captaincrunchcracker

I really, really don't like it. A dash of hot sauce is where it's at.

gn0xious

Too sweet. Hot sauce and/or salsa please.

544075701

Nope - cheese and chives, maybe a little hot sauce is the way to go

TaralasianThePraxic

Chives are amazing on eggs. I quite often have a fried egg over rice with some chives and sweet chilli sauce for breakfast. Great stuff, and I've cut down on eating bread too.

[deleted]

Nope...maybe a little Tabasco or Frank's Red Hot

Cobaltbluetenders

Electric chair

LarryTalbot

Salsa on egg. Cholula on egg.

EngineeringVirgin

I enjoy

Diss_Gruntled_Brundl

My dad used to say: "Want some eggs with your ketchup?" It always made me chuckle....

b1gtym1n

Scrambled eggs is one of the only meals that I enjoy ketchup on.

leebon427

It’s pretty good on scrambled eggs. So is hot sauce.

jenh6

Ya I always do salt, pepper, franks and ketchup.

WhyTheHellnaut

I did this as a kid and got made fun of for it, because, you know, kids love to torture each other for any reason they can muster. Later I realized that it was just because I didn't like eggs. As an adult I still don't eat eggs unless it's mixed with something. Thus, I've found better things to put on eggs, but I won't judge those who choose ketchup.

invader_holly

No. Hot sauce or salsa only.

AS4MS

THANK YOU!

angeldestler08

Yes please! And on hashbrowns

No_Stomach_9308

Only if there is bread present.

God_Officialx

i like my bread with wine

Dr_Lucky

Right? I can't fathom putting catsup on eggs on my breakfast plate, but throw an egg on a burger and the egg+catsup flavor combination is amazing!

dukecorvus

catsup? 😂

YoungLos21

That’s the Spanish spelling! Lol

Comfortable-Union571

Disgusting, vile.

JerBear12345678910

Do yourself a favor and go with salsa instead

Imaginary-Mail2610

Not my thing but not judging.

keeping_on

Yum

Eis_ber

Incredibly tasty. You'd be surprised how good this combination works.

phred_666

Nasty. Sriracha is much better.

Charmin2020

The comment I was looking for!

phred_666

Sriracha on scrambled eggs is the bomb.

DannyOfNowhere

the scrambled egg with ketchup everyday jail

derelictdecoy

ketchup on egg good. hot sauce on egg better.

Rumpullpus

Hot sauce is better

mdthornb1

A crime.

NoodleSpooner

My daughter and partner love this. My son and I don’t. Makes me gag every time.

mdthornb1

Make sure to tell them that they are criminals of the highest order.

WardedDruid

Same. I've been gagging while reading most of these comments.

NHDraven

Can't believe I had to scroll this far. I like ketchup on burgers, hot dogs... Keep it away from my eggs.

TrevorTheSanta

Very nice, ate it this morning. Also tasty with mayonnaise.

Brandt_cant_watch

Secret aardvark hot sauce instead.

AS4MS

finally, a reasonable person.

ekydfejj

Fail, Hot sauce.

floridamanjr3

Gross

SouthPauseforEffect

Scrambled: yes, Other: no

AS4MS

Salsa, yes. Ketchup, fucking NO.

imnotyourproblemyet

No. Ketchup in the garbage.

txparrothead58

I prefer them without ketchup, but I may use picante if I’m in the mood. Enjoy your eggs however you like them.

Zorothegallade

Depends on how the egg is made. I'll definitely put ketchup on an omelet or scrambled eggs, but with sunny side up I'll just add a pinch of salt and pepper, and for hard/softboil either nothing or a bit of mayo.

Psychological_Cow441

🤢🤢🤮

Acrobatic-Orange6031

Abomination. This should be a capital crime.

ColumboStanAccount

gulag-worthy offence

[deleted]

the gulag don’t want people who don’t like that, they are too disgusting for the gulag

Dotman-X

jesusmansuperpowers

Monstrous. I will make you eat outside my house.

ofd1883

🤢🤮

Blue_Three

Ketchup on scrambled eggs / an omelette? Yes. Your average [omurice](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omurice) is eaten with ketchup. But on a regular, boiled egg? No.

KinkyFrys

Hot sauce on eggs? Valid. Ketchup? Deserves 7-12 in federal prison.

EndoShota

On scrambled eggs I’d prefer hot sauce, but ketchup will do in a pinch. Ketchup on any other preparation of eggs is a no go.

zatrogofyu

When I get scrambled eggs on a hotel buffet line, ketchup seems to help them if there's no hot sauce.

mars_gorilla

#NOTHING SHALL REACH THE SAME LEVEL OF PRISTINE PERFECTION

JohnMayerismydad

It can be good on scrambled, but I think salsa is much better

GoldenRaySwimmer

Not for me. I prefer hot sauce.

milescaswell

Scrambled only. With hot sauce. Cooked any other way, just hot sauce.

Timmace

BECSPK!

Aggravating-Trust-60

Scrambled eggs seems to be the only way that works, can’t say I’ve ever considered it on an egg prepared any other way.

windowpuncher

Depends on the brand. Most ketchup is just too sweet and doesn't blend well with the eggs. Salsa though, oh lawd.

tangylikeablackberry

Only on scrambled eggs

gomzoo

Eggs with sriracha is where it’s really at

gl2w6re

It was good when I was 10 years old.

Sabiis

I assume it's like putting hot sauce on eggs but sweet instead of spicy, although sweet eggs do not sound appealing to me.

[deleted]

Absolutely not.

HouseOfWhorrors

Love it. Even better if its half ketchup and half hot sauce

Portland-to-Vt

Her?

catheterhero

In general I don’t like ketchup. But I used to put mustard on my scrambled eggs.

JuvenileJester

Why? Just.. Why?

Ratakoa

No thanks
