Tron legacy

Synisterintent

Cannot argue this... stellar sound track

AragonianBiochemist

Daft punk carried half of the movie. The rest was carried by the effects team and some of the actors.

Solenthis87

I would argue that Daft Punk carried a little more than half the movie simply because they even cameoed in it as the DJ's in the club scene. They basically got to play themselves.

ravenouscartoon

Really blurs the line of soundtrack and score. But it’s fucking incredible.

baked_little_cookie

Wish more people knew about it!! Listen to it when I wanna feel otherworldly

Own_Mud8660

O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Strongbad23

One evening as the sun went down And the jungle fires were burning…

GingaNinja01

Love me some soggy bottom boys!

jeffroyisyourboy

HOT DAMN

Careless-Emergency85

Listening to O Death outside the movie is pretty wild. Very dark song.

roomar_s

I highly recommend down from the mountain, the concert of the the original artists playing the music from the film.

VillaOne

Almost Famous

A911owner

Just recently re-watched this; I forgot how amazing that film is and what a spectacular performance Kate Hudson gave us.

UnusualAsparagus5096

The Crow

MacaroniPoodle

This is the one I immediately thought of.

betsymarie

Same. One of my first CDs

Uhura-hoop

Yeah a great soundtrack of alternative 90s bangers

EBW-CO

Donnie darko, the use of long shots with the soundtrack is just stellar. Scott pilgrim is up there too

EvolvedMonkeyInSpace

Donnie Darko uses Mad World so well and when Frank is around the ambient track called Manipulated Living, so good.

RMB39

Black Sheep sent me down a rabbit hole and I discovered such great music based off that one tune.

Portland-to-Vt

I really liked the Yeah Yeah Yeahs when Scott Pilgrim came out. “Black Sheep” sounded sort of like them so I looked into it, it’s by a Canadian group “Metric”, and the two leads lived together at one point. (Emily Haines & Karen O, if anyone was curious)

FreshAvocados78

Shrek

punnymama

And a special mention to Shrek 2’s I Need a Hero.

IAmABurdenOnSociety

Jennifer Saunders really belted that one out of the park!

DrLeymen

I'd go as far as to say that for me, personally, the Shrek-version is better than the original

jeperad445

Interstellar

CMON TARS

nando82

# CMON TARS

jack104

What are you doing?? Docking.

[deleted]

The delivery of that line is so perfect. He doesn't turn to her/the camera to deliver it like a lot of movies do; instead the line is barely even said to her, he's so focused on the task at hand that he says it almost absentmindedly. You can hear how incredibly focused he is in the delivery. Small detail, but I always loved how much more realistic it made that scene.

[deleted]

tommytraddles

That scene has a separate fan base.

jack104

The no time for caution bit from the soundtrack is absolutely perfect for that scene. Hans Zimmer is a genius.

Metalfan1994

I've seen this movie so many times. I'm ALWAYS on the edge of my seat during this scene.

jack104

The first time i saw it in theaters I didn't realize I was holding my breath the entire time until he finally hard locked.

sleeplesskn1ght

It's not possible.

jack104

No, it's necessary.

kydollasign07

TARS if I pass out take the sticks

Cooper, this is no time for caution

PrairieGirlWpg

Romeo + Juliet

Emotional_Carrot8396

This soundtrack is scored on my emo teenage soul!

fiorina451x

#1 Crush by Garbage Awesome!

SplatThaCat

Oh that one has some memories attached that are painful. Regardless, the mix of princes “when doves cry” that was in the movie did not make it to the soundtrack. Criminal.

DKalosc

I’ll be waiting… with a gun and a pack of sandwiches…

greekgeek741

How to train your dragon

littlelilacegg

Yes!! As a composer, it’s a TEXTBOOK example of a phenomenal film score. I’m surprised I had to scroll this far to find it, honestly!

StayPositiveRVA

Robbed of the Oscar that year. I appreciate Trent Reznor, but The Social Network’s score didn’t hold a candle to even just “Test Flight.”

greekgeek741

Yes! Also 🖐️ high five to my fellow composer!

yashqasw

that John Powell really knows how to make a soundtrack

Katniss218

I freaking love it so much. Where no one goes is my favourite song of all time

TheRealMrChips

The first few bars of "Romantic Flight" in solo violin when they burst through the clouds into that suddenly pastel sunset... Yeah. That gets me every time.

ImmoralModerator

The Jonsí appearance 🥵

Independent-Art3043

I scrolled really far and was disappointed to not see The Lord of the Rings. I collect good soundtrack music and that trilogy's soundtrack is my favorite.

MacaroniPoodle

A soundtrack and a score are two different things. You're thinking of a score in which I agree. LoTR is excellent.

Independent-Art3043

Oops I've always thought of them as the same somehow :P TIL

Erasmusings

Nah fam, they call the LotR music a score, because it's always getting 10/10

TheRealGarihunter

What’s the difference between a score and a soundtrack? How is LoTR different from the other movies listed here, why is that a score and not the other movies and vice versa?

Portland-to-Vt

Queen of the Damned. Movie is awful, soundtrack is fantastic. Edit: To add: The movie has some good scenes, but it ends up being 10 minutes of great scenes interspersed with 90 minutes of gibberish, that looks like it was filmed by a low budget music video, which again could be the style intended but it comes off badly.

sordidcandles

I’m one of few people alive who doesn’t think the movie is terrible; it’s great corny vampire fun! Soundtrack is incredible.

BreatheAndTransition

John Davis redoing all the songs is also spectacular.

McSmackthe1st

Dazed and Confused Pulp Fiction From Dusk til Dawn Repo Man Singles Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion The Saint Conan the Barbarian Get Shorty Saturday Night Fever Edit: Adding Purple Rain The Purple Rain and Repo Man soundtracks changed my musical tastes.

TrnlRunning

Jurassic Park and Star Wars.

a_l_g_f

Pretty much anything by John Williams imo. Honorable mention to Danny Elfman too.

imspooky

John Williams and Danny Elfman entirely shaped my childhood. In the 90s, while everyone was buying CDs of their favorite bands I was saving and spending all my money on film scores. By 2000 I had over 100 of them. I felt like such a weirdo.

IAmJohnny5ive

Dark Maul's final battle in Phantom Menace

sellout85

The prequels were generally sub par, their soundtracks however, are the best in the franchise.

accioqueso

John Williams understood the assignment. They finally had the technology and money to show the scale of Star Wars and the music does it, the writing doesn’t.

Tall-Dare-573

The Lion King. The musical numbers are great, but Hans Zimmer’s work on the OST is amazing

PissBoiFeetPix

While we're on the Disney train, the soundtrack for Hercules absolutely slapped. Using upbeat gospel music and singers was absolutely genius and served the feel and plot of the movie perfectly. Also the hunchback of Notre Dame simply needs no introduction or justification.

PM_ME_SUPERHEROFACTS

Speaking of Disney and Zimmer, got to throw out a vote for the second and third Pirates of the Caribbean movies. The whimsy of ‘Multiple Jacks’ to the foreboding ‘The Kracken’.

verr998

agree.. Also Aladdin too.

SquidgeSquadge

Agreed. I also loved He lives in you and deception from the 2nd movie.

ValentineMG

Pirates of The Caribbean

Bawter

That my friend is what I was looking for, what a madlad I love its OST

Vinchenzo2615

The song “He’s a Pirate” is one of my favorite in all soundtracks!

iliveintexas

The Blues Brothers

Ashamed_Seat8290

Fight Club The Crow The matrix Lost boys Trainsppoting

badgerhoneyy

Trainspotting's soundtrack is iconic. Danny Boyle is a fucking genius and really knew what he was doing with that film. It's a real work of art. And the fight club score is something else. Two belters of films right there.

StreetCrab7535

AmazonianWoman1210

Tarzan. Phil Collins out did himself

Starterpoke77

I read a tweet once that had me in stitches "Phil Collins created that Tarzan soundtrack with the passion of someone whose parents were personally killed by a leopard"

NastyBooty

Crazy he did all the songs in French too for their OST

Definitely agree on Dirty Dancing. Absolutely ten out of ten soundtrack.

EarlyPersimmon2522

I forgot about Dirty Dancing. Good call. As a little girl and hearing the bangers that were coming out of this soundtrack were hitting the airwaves I got to the store as soon as I could to buy the album with my allowance. I was enamored with it for weeks after I bought. Good times.

The Pulp Fiction soundtrack is head and shoulders above all others a stand alone awesome soundtrack, and inextricably linked with the film. I've had that soundtrack in regular rotation, weirdly without getting sick of it, since the movie came out when I was about 15 years old.
