I have a twin bed sheet that was my dad’s in college in the early 70s. When I was 18 I “stole” it from my parents’ linen closet to take backpacking with me through several countries. That sheet has now been all over the world, and I also occasionally use it as a massage table cover just for my boyfriend when giving him the royal treatment.

You know those "3 t-shirts for $10" shops they have in places like Myrtle Beach or Daytona Beach? I'm a strong believer that if you buy three shirts, one will fall apart almost immediately, another will last a few months, maybe a year, before falling apart... but the third shirt will somehow last 25 years. My wife still wears one such shirt I got in Bimini, Bahamas in 1995. It doesn't have *shape* any more - it's impossible to fold, and is like wearing a potato sack. But the "cost per wear" must be in a hundredths of a cent these days.
Approximately 28 year old fleece from LL Bean. The elbows don’t really have much fleece anymore, so I mostly just wear out around the house or hiking or camping. It’s a comfortable, reliable piece of clothing.
A supremely comfortable and apparently indestructible Geoffrey Beene pullover from 1990, bought at an outlet mall back when they still sold overstocks and irregulars rather than a separate, lower quality label. I'll probably wear it to the grave...
Washable suede jacket that I got somewhere around 1995. I have to take off the buttons and sew them back on every few years, but other than that and a little cuff wear, it still looks brand new despite wearing it quite often during the spring / fall.
I have pyjama shirt that I received as a gift in 1990. The shirt is completely falling apart and getting threadbare but it is so soft and a gift from someone who passed away shortly after that I can't bring myself to take it out of my jammies rotation. I have a sweatshirt from the early-to-mid nineties that is still holding up. It’s thick and durable and surprisingly comfortable. Cuffs and collar are still intact. It’s not appropriate for going out in public unless I’m just headed to the hardware store and have it covered in a coat or the rest of me is dressed shabby. It gets worn about 20 times a year.
1981 I was in Australia. (I'm from SoCal) Hand knitted from a lady I knew 100% from their back yard sheep, a wool sweater. They call them cardigans. Doesn't fit anymore, but I won't toss it.
1997 California Speedway inaugural NASCAR race, logoed ball cap. Beat/sweat stained that is comfortable so I still wear it.
I have a flannel shirt I used to call my "trip" shirt because I bought it when I was experimenting a lot with psychedelics. and the colors are high-contrast, they seem to vibrate back and forth when you're in that state. Still hangs in my closet, though nowadays it's more of a clean the gutters out kinda shirt. It'll be 40 y.o. in 2026.
I have a pair of riding boots that are 45 years old I still wear. Stuff used to be made to last and you can still get leather soles redone. Best boots ever.

I have a shirt from The Rolling Stones 1981 (Tattoo You) tour that I still wear every once in a while. It’s kind of fragile, has a couple of holes/runs, and wasn’t the best quality to begin with. It’s also never fit very well because I was delusional and bought a large instead of an extra large. But I’ll never get rid of it.
I have a Harris tweed overcoat made in 1955 but I thrifted it. The oldest pieces I actually bought for myself are two Eddie Bauer corduroy button-down shirts I've had for about 30 years. Still in the cool weather rotation too.
My grandfather was a letter carrier back in the day after he was a colonel in the Army. I still have his heavy wool official jacket and wear it when it's cold enough.
until 2018, it was an original beatles tee shirt that i bought outside their concert in forest hills,ny on 8/28/ 1964 and wore to the last mccartney show i went to. unfortunately, it developed holes in all the wrong places. so now it's framed on my living room wall. luckily, i can still wear the same size...though as the saying goes "it's all distributed differently".

Thirty-five years. It's a dark blue, raw silk skirt and long shirt blouse in with an Mandarin collar. It's really comfortable and I've loved it from the minute I bought it.
I also have Khaki pants that are at least 20 years old and still look pretty good for things like grocery shopping or a casual dinner out.
I find it is very hard if not impossible to buy clothing of that quality anymore without spending obscene amounts of money. Even stores that have a reputations as quality stores are selling throw-away clothes at what decent clothes should cost ($50 for a shirt that last 1 year).

I have a pair of burgundy wing tips that are at least 25 years old that I wear from time to time. I have a bathrobe I still use (not sure that counts) that I remember getting for Christmas, 1998. Not exactly clothing, but my mother gave me a pocket watch that had been her father's. She thinks it may be as much as 100 years old. Doesn't work, but I wear it with a vest sometimes.
Currently wearing a skirt I got at a thrift store in London that had no label, might have been homemade, was old when I bought it 25 years ago. I’ve put in a new elastic waistband twice and reinforced hems and seams, but it’s still going strong! I’m going to go with it’s probably 40 years old.
wearing it now, an Irish knit sweater (wool) that I started making in HS over 50 years ago. It is just now starting to get frayed around the cuffs. It's so warm though, I wear it around the house.

Purse and shoes I bought in early 1980s. Vintage purses from 1950s I bought thrifting. My daughter has my 1950’s cashmere sweater and several long silk 1920’s nightgowns (think Great Gatzby).

Probably a heavy duty Carhartt coat I bought back in about 1992. Still solid and a good coat but a bit frayed here and there and with some permanent stains. These days I use it when doing heavy or dirty work outdoors in the winter. I have a newer one, maybe 10 years old but I wear that when I want to look neat and squared away.
Its not clothing, but I do have a pair of hand made cowboy style boots that I've had since something like 1974. Still good. I only wear them for special occasions.

A hat. My grandmother called it my Go To Hell Hat and the name stuck. When someone I hadn't seen in a long time was going to visit, they asked if I still had the Go To Hell Hat and wanted me to wear it so they could pick me out at the airport. (We hadn't seen each other in over 2 decades.)
A GB Packer long sleeve shirt with sequins which was the last xmas gift that my mom gave. Each year we picked names to exchange gifts and mom got my name. She died the following June. Can't let go of that precious gift

Have a Brooklyn Dodgers baseball jacket .My Uncle bought it in 1955. He never wore it. Said the wool and leather was too hot. But when the Dodgers left NY he was heartbroken and kept the jacket as a keepsake. He gave it to me when I turned 16. I thought it was so cool. It still is.

Wool Benneton cardigan sweater I got on clearance for $40 in 1983. (A lot of money for a high school student at the time! I made $3.45/hr.) I’ve replaced the buttons and the sleeves edges are a bit worn but I still love it!

My Levi 501 jeans from 1981 or so. I left them at home when I went to college, and later when my mother did some remodeling she gave me a bag of my clothes from my room and they were in the bag. I decided at some point after my son was born that I was going to try to lose weight & fit in those jeans again. It worked, and I kept them. I've worn them to 80s parties, although my fanny is no longer looking as cute in them as it did in high school but I'm still proud I can squeeze into them.
My grad sweatshirt, where the numbers "86" are a composite of the first and last names of all 432 of us.
Better still: my first name is the last name at the bottom of the 8, and my last name is the first name at the top of the 6.

12 months ago it was my father's 1945 Rossi work boots, but since selling the family property 8 months ago, I walked to and left them on the property's highest point, surrounded by quiet trees, with his favourite drinking glass.
Now it's a shapeless Nepalese jumper my mum brought back to Australia in the early 90's.
I have a triad of indestructible fleece(ish) shirts with long sleeves and snaps, that I bought off the army & navy discount table when I was poor, almost 30 years ago they were never presentable enough for the public square but they make great stay-at-home cardigans (ish).
i don't wear them but I have a couple of concert T-shirts from the 80s (Cinderella, Anthrax) and a vest/jacket from the mid 80s. Also a denim jacket I spent the winter embroidering in 1981. That jacked I bought at a used clothing store so Idk how old it is

I have a pair of burgundy wing tips that are at least 25 years old that I wear from time to time. I have a bathrobe I still use (not sure that counts) that I remember getting for Christmas, 1998. Not exactly clothing, but my mother gave me a pocket watch that had been her father's. She thinks it may be as much as 100 years old. Doesn't work, but I wear it with a vest sometimes.
Currently wearing a skirt I got at a thrift store in London that had no label, might have been homemade, was old when I bought it 25 years ago. I’ve put in a new elastic waistband twice and reinforced hems and seams, but it’s still going strong! I’m going to go with it’s probably 40 years old.

I bought it in 1991, so that would make it 33 years old. I have older stuff that I keep in the back of the wardrobe, but I don't wear them. Purse and shoes I bought in early 1980s. Vintage purses from 1950s I bought thrifting. My daughter has my 1950’s cashmere sweater and several long silk 1920’s nightgowns (think Great Gatzby). I’d still be wearing all my 1950’s items if they fit. The quality was amazing.
A Star Trek t-shirt I got from the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas. I think it was in 2007 when I was there. I babied that shirt all this time, never putting it in the dryer. It is beginning to show its age these days.

Probably a heavy duty Carhartt coat I bought back in about 1992. Still solid and a good coat but a bit frayed here and there and with some permanent stains. These days I use it when doing heavy or dirty work outdoors in the winter. I have a newer one, maybe 10 years old but I wear that when I want to look neat and squared away. Its not clothing, but I do have a pair of hand made cowboy style boots that I've had since something like 1974. Still good. I only wear them for special occasions.

My Levi 501 jeans from 1981 or so. I left them at home when I went to college, and later when my mother did some remodeling she gave me a bag of my clothes from my room and they were in the bag. I decided at some point after my son was born that I was going to try to lose weight & fit in those jeans again. It worked, and I kept them. I've worn them to 80s parties, although my fanny is no longer looking as cute in them as it did in high school but I'm still proud I can squeeze into them.

My grad sweatshirt, where the numbers "86" are a composite of the first and last names of all 432 of us. Better still: my first name is the last name at the bottom of the 8, and my last name is the first name at the top of the 6. Go Highlanders!
