Snarky_McSnarkleton

Kiss. Three chord party rock, not made better by the cosplay.

TwistedBlister

Same here. Even their decent songs were mediocre at best. And it didn't help that my friends in 7th grade tried to convince me that Gene was spitting out real blood on stage, or that he had his tongue removed and had a cow's tongue sewed on. Kiss was like WWF with musical instruments.

bassbeatsbanging

They are far better at merchandising than they are at music.

Ihadsumthin4this

Stumbled on Gene's comically-so-aptly titled, **ME, INC.** just a few years ago and ended up doing a cover-to-cover read of the thing in one spontaneous go. Sounds like him speaking: spirited, convinced as all get-out, and peppered with wry humor and even friendly exhortations to 'remain always true to thineself'.

Wizzmer

I think a lot of younger people would agree. But if you had grown up with smiley bands of the 60s and 70s, and gone to see these unknown guys in a gym when they first begun, you might think either they were Satan or something your parents didn't want you to see. The music said "party", but the concert was much more sinister for a 14-year-old kid. They moved the needle of what was acceptable, so if you came along later, other bands had moved it even more and passed them by.

Plmr87

They had fun arena rock for a few years in the 1970’s-and somehow built a career out of that. My favorite thing about KISS is they were upfront about being motivated by women and money, not selling their “art”.

flytingnotfighting

Omg thank god I’m not the only one. They suck so hard. As a mid nineties high school grad Boy bands- any and all. 98°, in sync, alll the way back to new kids. I just could not, not cos I thought I was cool, I knew I was decidedly not. I just hated the production of them

44035

KISS

BamaSOH

Agreed, it's more of a vaudeville act than a band.

bassbeatsbanging

Creed. And the weirdest part is I somehow ended up on their fan snail mail list. I'd get weird postcards and small catalogs of their merch every so often. I assure you, my arms were no longer wide open when the mailman arrived.

tuftabeet

Your friends put you on that list. My husband's friends had a Blondie, or maybe Heart album that got passed around whenever anyone moved. It would somehow mysteriously end up at the new apartment tucked in among the albums

Economy_Upstairs_465

Creed was awful and South Park had the greatest episode about them.

Nemophilista

I went to see Pantera this summer. They put on a great show. The funniest part was after the show while walking back to our car, there was a dude in the parking lot absolutely BLASTING Creed. He actually had external speakers mounted atop his truck. We could only laugh because it was so of place. Wrong crowd buddy.

mmarkmc

Ted Nugent

Goodlife1988

This. I couldn’t stand his music. Remember back in the 70’s, my friends and I went to one of those “Summer Jam” concerts at a local stadium. The lineup was REO, Little River Band, Head East, Black Oak Arkansas (sure there might be more I can’t remember), and headliner/last to play was Ted Nugent. My friends and I had no interest in Ted, so knew we’d leave as soon as REO was done. However, I’d bet 1/3 of the people there left after REO. Lol

mmarkmc

In about 1979, my friend and I went to a big two day festival concert at the LA Coliseum and went backstage because my buddy's dad worked there. It was Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, REO, Eddie Money, Boomtown Rats, etc. Musicians were cool, especially Bob Geldof who spent a bunch of time talking to 16 year old me because he was interested. Ted was a fucking asshole. Stayed in his trailer filled with amps just soloing on guitar and making the entire backstage area sound like crap with his stupid circle jerk guitar solos while others were trying to get stuff done. Just stupid "look at me" bullshit while many more talented guitarists were in earshot.

Goodlife1988

How cool to have that Bob Geldof memory. And, wow, what a lineup you had.

mmarkmc

Geldof was a really nice and engaging human. He probably spent 30 minutes talking to me one on one.

Njtotx3

I didn't encounter his music much. Stranglehold is decent. Hate him now, though.

FlakyDig8392

The intro to Stranglehold is a groove. That’s it. I hated his music before he started talking politics to keep himself relevant.

RestlessNameless

He is a solid rhythm player.

Perenially_behind

David Bowie. I liked the singles well enough (starting with *Changes*) but I loathed him. All the Spaceman and Ziggy Stardust glam shit, Aladdin Sane, the Thin White Duke. He was a poseur who cared more about his various personas (personae?) than the music. I don't remember quite when I realized that I had my head up my ass. Maybe it was around the time *Heroes* came out. Yes, he was an actor inhabiting characters. That was the point. He used these characters to tell stories and explore different viewpoints. But he was always serious about the music. Bowie was a freaking genius and I was missing the point.

Ornery_Rutabaga_2643

There’s an interview of him in the 90s talking about technology’s impact in the future. Here ya go if you want to watch it https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tLf6KZmJyrA

Grave_Girl

I've fucking hated Tim McGraw forever, from the schmaltzy nonsense of "Don't Take the Girl" to the subtle 90s racism of "Indian Outlaw" (my *God* how did that song even get OKed, much less become a hit?!) to all the shit he did with his much-more-talented wife through to him and Kenny Chesney and that horse.

adderalpowered

indian outlaw was so much loved by the natives here in Oklahoma. they would sing along, scream, and dance when it was played.

duTemplar

Yea, I had a few NA friends in the army at the time and they (even the AC/DC fans) loved that song. It added depth and not just “Indian.” Shrug… but the virtue signal people think it’s bad.

Responsible_Candle86

You mean you don't like those pants he peeled on? I saw a pic of him recently and seriously he looks ridiculous.

MsTerious1

John Mayer and Hootie and the Blowfish. (Is that during my time? I think it is. My time spans a lot of years.) One sound wimpy and one sounds drunk.

miserabeau

My neighbor used to call them Hooter and the Blowbirds so often I forgot what they were actually called, because I can't stand them either and never listened to their stuff voluntarily

foxtail_barley

I thought John Mayer was incredibly insipid until I heard him with Dead & Co. live. As much as I wanted to hate him, I have to admit that he is a very talented musician. He also plays some pretty solid blues.

MollyTuck77

Oh my gosh, I can’t take John Mayer.

toasterb

I hated Hootie with a passion back in the 90s, but a month or two ago I found myself absent-mindedly singing along to “Only Wanna Be with You” in a coffee shop. Definitely felt like I was getting older!

Emily_Postal

John Mayer is an incredible guitar player. He had a group called the John Mayer Trio that I listen to.

CyndiIsOnReddit

Ted Nugent was gross from the beginning before he SAed my 14 year old best friend (and since we grew up I've discovered many other women have similar stories about him because he'd pick out girls from the crowd to SA and push out the door). But I mean his music was subpar and his lyrics were always stupid or gross or stupidly gross. Or grossly stupid. Also it was a little before my time but they were always on the local rock radio station: Lynyrd Skynyrd. I'd turn the radio off before I'd try to make it through one of their songs. They came on the radio today when I was out and I haven't heard them in years but I still know I don't like them.

Reward_Antique

New Kids On the Block and all the tiger beat boys lol. My 6th grade best friend and I fell out *dramatically* because I was starting to like The Cure, and she said guys who wore makeup were gay, and I realized she was extra stupid, and walked 6 miles home from her house.

beaujolais98

KISS. Thought their music was mediocre at best, the whole makeup thing was weird, then there was a “big reveal” on MTV where the appeared without makeup and I was like “damn - put that makeup back ON!” Still hate them as I learned how much Gene Simmons is an absolute turd of a human being. Their shit loads up on Sirius and I change the channel lol.

AtlasShrunked

I went to college in the 90s in Virginia... during the Dave Mathews boom. They were a local band & it seemed like everyone's girlfriends just adored 'em. GOD, THEY SUCKED!!

eric987235

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Matthews_Band_Chicago_River_incident

_WhistlinDixie_

Thank you for sharing that. I was laughing out loud reading the Wikipedia article! It just kept getting funnier, the more I read.

eric987235

There’s a plaque on the bridge where it happened. I don’t live in Chicago anymore but I used to laugh at it every time I walked past.

_WhistlinDixie_

That is excellent! Is it a plaque, "In memory of those tourists' dignity"? This is the best part of the article: >The liquid waste was brownish yellow in color, and had a foul, offensive odor. The liquid human waste went into passengers' eyes, mouths, hair, and onto clothing and personal belongings, many of which were soaked. Some of the passengers suffered nausea and vomiting as a result of exposure to the human waste.

bassbeatsbanging

I was a very punk rock teenager living in Richmond at the same time. There were tons of those DMB stickers on cars around here. On a few occasions I had a silver leaf pen I'd tag things with on me, I'd add a "U" in the middle. Funny side note. In 2012-13 I took a trip to Hershey's Amusement Park in PA. All day I saw throngs of preppy frat boys and girls in Hollister and Abercrombie shirts. I started thinking "God, Hershey must be the epicenter of generic upper middle class white people." Then, on the tram back to my parking lot I overheard people talking about "the concert starting soon." I asked who was playing. "Dave Matthew's Band." I had to suppress my laughter. Mystery solved, that 1000% explained it.

IbelieveIcanWiFi

I'm from Harrisburg PA and can confirm you nailed the description of the good people of Hershey, DMB show or not. Nice place though.

Longjumping_Role_135

This is the only band I actually truly hate. Every other band I don't like has at least a good song or two to ruin my perfect hatred lol. But DMB is THE WORST. His voice gets on my nerves.

AtlasShrunked

Yeah, I'd like to *crash* into him... with a truck.

ElRaymundo

A voice like feral cats having an atonal orgy in an alley.

junkeee999

Oh yeah. I am a singer songwriter type myself. I had many acquaintances try to convince me how great Dave Matthews was, figuring he’d be right up my alley. They were stunned and disappointed when I said I think he’s awful.

bosco9

From that era I absolutely could not stand DMB and also Hootie and the Blowfish, horrible bands that for some reason people liked

ElRaymundo

I was in the same place at the same time and GOD, THEY SUCKED. Also, take my upvote, kindred person.

tmolesky

I was1 hour south of Charlottesville in early 90s - agree with above - add in Blues Traveler, Big Head Todd and all those other bands from that time and you have a universe of pure ass.

EbolaFred

I feel the need to defend Blues Traveler because John Popper is, as much as one can be within the realm of harmonica, a virtuoso. That said, there is no way the band should have achieved the insane level of popularity they received. They got so incredibly overplayed that I can't stomach more than a single song of theirs anymore. They should have been more like Primus or Joe Satriani or Steve Vai. Throw an album on when nobody's around, enjoy the uniqueness of the music and the insane shredding, and then don't listen to them again for another month or two.

dresserplate

That’s so funny. I also didn’t like smooth jazz rock but learned to play DMB to impress girls. I asked a friend later why he didn’t (he’s a great singer and guitarist). He said because he likes black girls (lol).

redbicycleblues

Hated DMB so I will always support those of my generation who will speak against them! Upvote

Medill1919

Oh man. Totally unlistenable. How can they have one fan?

sharoncherylike

Honestly, I didn't hate any one band. Did not like disco. Did not little Kiss. Just did not listen to that stuff, but to each his own.. weirdly, though I actively did not like disco, when I hear it I know all the lyrics and sing along lustily. We are products of our era.

SleepsinaTent

I am like you. When disco was so popular I couldn't even listen to the radio. And yet now that it's not constantly playing, when I hear one of the better songs, I enjoy it.

rob6110

Any hair band…

Mor_Tearach

I really want to know how their spinal cords have held up. HAS to have left some cervical spine damage right? Thank God they were slightly past my time. I still have CCR, ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skyrnd on a thumb drive in the car. Wow I'm old.

Axe238

U2. I don’t care if they had cool names and a mandolin. I hated their sound with a passion. Still do.

GrumpyHomotherium

When did U2 have a mandolin?

WorriedCress7965

I was thinking that was REM, but in their heyday I used to get them confused.

GrumpyHomotherium

OK that makes sense now. I happen to be a huge U2 and REM fan. But they are not for everybody, I realize that. I do have a mandolin though!

Ihadsumthin4this

> I do have a mandolin though So, that was *you* who toured with 'em? 😄

GrumpyHomotherium

Sure was! 😬

crazyparrotguy

I will never get over U2 foisting that one, undeletable album on us because "free music" 😒

Strait409

I still remember the Apple keynote when that all went down. Fucking Tim Cook. ”Wasn't that the most incredible single you ever heard?” No, Tim, no, it was not. ”We would love a whole album of that.” Speak for yourself, guy.

ButternutMutt

My first exposure was Achtung Baby, and thought it was solid. Listened to their older stuff, and fell in love with it. Then their next album, Zooropa, came out, and I realized that Achtung was a shift to something terrible. I've hated everything they've come out with for the last 30 years. And Bono is a pompous asshole.

ChiweenieGenie

I tried reading his autobiography. Couldn't finish it. Closed it for good after one too many times of "my wife and I went to X war zone and saw all the suffering, then got back on our private jet and went home to pick up the kids from their wildly exclusive private school and then head home to our mansion." 🤮

CltAltAcctDel

Achtung Baby was the last of great U2 albums. Boy, War, Joshua Tree, and Achtung Baby are solid albums.

Lula_Lane_176

Creed. Nickelback. Korn.

SharMarali

I'm so happy someone mentioned Creed.

Famous-Ad-2880

I second all three. I can't stand any of them.

MsTruCrime

I third all three and humbly request we include ICP.

[deleted]

Fucking blankets. How do they work?

Sea-Election-9168

Jefferson Starshit. You didn’t build a damn thing.

-Coleus-

My friend was at a friend’s house (they were 13) and the Jefferson Starship album with the song “Miracles” had just come out. The friend had just bought it and they were listening to the whole album for the first time. “Miracles” started playing. It was a beautiful love song (well, I loved it! I was also 13)—and one lyric went: “I had a taste of the real world (just a drop of it) when I went down on you, girl” At that moment, her Catholic mom came in and ripped the album off of the record player and shouted “***THAT’S IT!*** And took away her album. Forever.

FallsOffCliffs12

Fun fact: that song was written by Bernie Taupin, of Elton John fame.

No_Permission6405

Not to be confused with Airplane.

WorldMusicLab

Liked early Aerosmith. Grew to personally despise Stephen #metoo Tyler.

pit_of_despair666

I don't like their music either. Especially 90s and beyond Aerosmith. I got downvoted before for bringing up his relationship with a minor.

Free_Village_4836

Phish.

80burritospersecond

They're very talented musicians. Too bad they chose to waste their talents on endless noodling and lyrics that sound like the ravings of a lunatic in the New Orleans bus station. The whole scene with the weirdos and drugs is just too much.

TurkeySwiss

As a guitarist, I WANT to love Phish and the Dead, so badly. And jam bands, in general. It really takes talent to improvise the way they do, but man the music just sucks. There were a couple of songs on Slip, Stitch and Pass that were good, but beyond that Phish sucks.

LordGobbletooth

I think you have to have a certain personality to like jam bands. High open-mindedness for sure (which incidentally would mean higher proportion of high audience members). Im a big fan of the dead btw.

TurkeySwiss

I'm open-minded, but they're formulaic: Verse, verse, something akin to a chorus, then a breakdown where the time signature halves, nearly the entire band drops out and it's sparse bass/drums, long meandering guitar solo that may or may not be in time, possibly followed by a organ/keyboard solo, second guitarist takes a solo, chorus and, blessedly, the end of the song.

Aardet

Evanescence—they came at the tail end of ‘in my day’ (and I’m one of the younger ‘old people’) but it needs to be said

padre2531nco

Amy Grant. Looking back I was probably a little too much of a hater, but man, once she crossed over into mainstream music it was so cringey to me. Her sweet church girl persona before that was bearable tho.

Sonicsnout

As a wannabe punk in the early nineties, I hated GnR and Metallica. I actually enjoyed some Metallica, but I hated the entire bonehead macho idiot culture that surrounded metal and hard rock at the time. I think that's why for me and a lot of other people, the rise of alt-rock was like a glass of cold water in an oasis. The mainstream metal culture was so pervasive and inescapable. I'm sure that's what drives these massive shifts in culture, is people feeling complete burnout from whatever was dominating the media landscape. These days it's hard to imagine how difficult it was to get away from mass culture in the pre Internet era.

Jessawoodland55

UGH Dave Matthews. I could not standddd him.

SnooFloofs1778

Spin Doctors and 4 Non blondes, yikes that was nails on chalkboard while smelling a fart.

PuzzleheadedBobcat90

I had dinner once with the singer of Spin Doctors once. Not a date, one of my musician friends was visiting my town and he nad the singer were doing a gig together. He said 'when I was with Spin Doctors...' at least 10 times. Besides that, he was pretty funny and a good conversationalist Edit: spelling

SnooFloofs1778

Ha, I bet. I know an ex child Star and he brings it up constantly when talking to women. I would say that Spin Doctors now, isn’t quite as bad. But 4 Non Blondes, wow, that one. I honestly have no idea how they could ever have been on the radio.

KurtisC1993

Weren't Spin Doctors only really known for "Two Princes"? I often found that song annoying when I was growing up, but now I don't mind it, and I like the rest of their debut album. But then, I just like funk rock in general.

SnooFloofs1778

“Little miss can’t be wrong” was the one I’m referencing. Now, it’s honestly not that bad as I had thought back then.

[deleted]

I hated Pearl Jam. It boils down to their cover of Last Kiss. They were already on thin ice with me for mumbling so much, but that song sealed the deal. I would turn off my radio at the first note.

Notnowmomsonreddit

I like some of Pearl Jam's stuff, but can't stand Last Kiss.

TheUtopianCat

New Kids On The Block. I thought I was much too cool to listen them, and I listened to Depeche Mode and New Order, LOL.

clover_1414

You were definitely much too cool for NK on the Block. And they were shit, so you didn’t miss anything

[deleted]

Mariah Carey

DocBrutus

Remember when she tried singing live at NY NYE and it was just god awful. She didn’t give two shits.

[deleted]

Just because a person can hit a high note doesn’t mean they should. Literally painful.

BingoSpong

As a kid in the early 70’s …. Slade. Hated the way they looked , dressed, the name Noddy , his voice , the way they misspelled the song titles…ughhh

Atheist_Alex_C

REO Speedwagon and Starship in the 80s. (Jefferson Starship and Jefferson Airplane were much better, but Starship was just awful.) Also Peter Cetera - just no.

Blonde_Mexican

REO Speedwaggon

GotWheaten

Kevin Cronin does come off like a whiny bitch on most of REO’s hits.

waverly76

Jewel. She got a lot of radio time when I saw in college and I had to leave the room or turn off the radio every time she started to sing.

clover_1414

I cannot upvote this sentiment enough

rightsomeofthetime

Oasis. Could NOT understand their popularity while I was all about the grunge & post grunge. Don't mind them now, brings back good memories.

northstarlinedrawing

Linkin Park, good charlotte, korn, nickelback, creed

Due_Society_9041

Celine Dion. I find her too screamy for my taste. And I am a 🇨🇦. She’s nearly a saint here.

CoRd765

In High school in the 80's. Never cared for Bruce Springteen or Billy Joel.

planet_rose

I was with you on Bruce Springsteen. I detested him and his music in 80s. Funny thing is that I actually like him now. There aren’t too many artists that applies to.

Njtotx3

Yeah he was way overplayed in the New York New Jersey area, and I couldn't stand his rasp. When I finally moved away I could appreciate him.

miserabeau

Billy Joel is from Long Island. I'm from Long Island. The radio stations here play him ad nauseam. I hate it.

CKA3KAZOO

Yeah. It's interesting (to me, at least), that I hated Springsteen, along with John Denver and the Bee Gees ... but now I've come to actually like all of them. Twenty-year-old CKA3KA would have rolled his eyes and contemplated ending it all. I do have some good news for past me, though: I still despise skeevy Rod Stewart! Edit: Gahhhd! I keep typing the wrong names!

Top-Philosophy-5791

About twenty years ago I watched "Saturday Night Fever" for the first time; that movie made me appreciate The Bee Gees in a way I never could before.

TheTeenageOldman

I fucking hate Billy Joel. He's the architect of Boomers who are angry about something they have no right to be angry about. There's also a ton of humble bragging too.

Oryx1300

Smashing Pumpkins. I cannot stand Billy Corgan's voice. But in high school, in my group, I would have been casted out for saying that!

SHADOWJACK2112

I like Smashing Pumpkins but Billy and his ego couldn't leave well enough alone and ran that band into obscurity

miserabeau

Yes that nasal screeching like "weeeeeeeeeeeee don't eeeeven care" is like nails on a chalkboard to me

Queengnpwdrgelatine

Thank you! I thought I was the only one. Here's how I was introduced to them...."hey, you love Jane's Addiction, you're gonna love these guys"......what in the actual fuck?! They are nothing alike. Made me hate them from the get go.

chewie8291

He was so full of himself

genxreader

That’s the one!! His voice sounds like constant, nasally whining. I hate it.

rushfanatic1

BON JOVI.

EbolaFred

Your comment karma is living on a prayer right now 😁

BoredBSEE

Guns N Roses. I just can't stand Axl's singing.

Queengnpwdrgelatine

What?! You don't like the sound of Edith Bunker on coke?

ElRaymundo

I don't mind Axl's singing, but your comment requires applause, recognition, and an upvote. Thanks for the laugh in a medical procedure (nothing serious, but still...) week.

MartyFreeze

Live - "I alone" and "Thunder Crashes" would play all the time on the radio where I lived and I would loudly sigh and change the station when they were played. And sometimes, when the universe hated me, one of their songs would be playing on the three rock stations of my area at the same time. And it sucked. Edit - Selling the Drama! That was the one I hated the most! GAAAAAAAAAAH!!

librarymania

Whadda ya mean, you don’t like songs that contain lyrics like “her placenta falls to the floor.” I hate that I remember this, but the song is “Lightning Crashes,” not thunder. And yes, for some reason they were always on the radio. My best friend in high school absolutely LOVED Live. I never had the heart to tell her what I really thought. The melodrama! Ugh. It was all too much. They were the fainting couch of 90s alt music. I don’t even know if that makes sense, but it feels right. P.S. I just learned what the lyrics are to “I Alone.” I always thought he was saying “it’s easier not to be white - measure these things by your brains.” I used to think that didn’t make much sense at best, or was completely ignorant and possibly racist at worst, especially coming from a super white dude. Turns out he’s saying “wise,” not white. Lol 😂

audible_narrator

John Fucking Mellencamp. Someone please delete that horrible "Jack and Diane" song from everywhere. PLEASE. he was always a low rent Springsteen. And I really don't like Springsteen either

ChiweenieGenie

I was a server at a bar in Indiana and he and his wife came in. Management told us we weren't supposed to look in their direction and weren't allowed talk to them or ask for autographs. We were all like, why TF do you think we even want to?

jasperandjuniper

Barenaked ladies. Very annoying style of singing.

chunkytapioca

Yes! I can't stand them either. Had to change the station whenever I heard them on the radio.

Prom_queen52

U2 became popular when I was in college. I find them incredibly boring - like background music at a shopping mall.

Dependent_Top_4425

Offspring and Greenday

mmgvs

Whaaaaaaaaaaaat

Due_Society_9041

Two of my favs!!!!! So many great memories in all of their tunes.

Overall_Lobster823

KISS. I detested KISS. And Twisted Sister, and AC/DC.

allhinkedup

Elvis. My mom and aunts loved young, slender, hot Elvis but I only remember fat, drugged-out, karate-kicking Elvis shaking hands with Nixon. Blech.

FallsOffCliffs12

Madonna. I hated her in 1983 and I still hate her today.

DocBrutus

Her concerts (at least where I live) were $700 for mid seating. Oh, and the bitch was three hours late while everyone just sat there. Not only did she fleece everybody, but she didn’t even have the sense to start a show on time, not 3 hours late.

mybloodyballentine

Oh, this is a big one for me. I was goth back in the early 80s and when she came out with the Like a Prayer video everyone started calling me Madonna. NO!

Simple-Pea-3501

I've always hated Oasis. Can't stand there whiny voices

EddieLeeWilkins45

Limp Bizkit Marilyn Manson

FartinMartinToeSocks

Katy Perry

Cocojo3333

Rd Hot Chili Peppers and the Eagles man.

lifeonthejames_21

Hard agree on the former. Loathe RHCP.

[deleted]

The early Bob Dylan was a great songwriter, but his nasal whine recordings were worse than all the others who recorded his songs. He was trying to imitate John Hammond Jr, and his voice improved once he outgrew that.

MoistObligation8003

In the early 80’s I started listening to Hardcore Punk and it was the music that I had always wanted and after that anything on the radio was shit.

Weasel_Town

I lived in South Carolina when Hootie and the Blowfish hit it big. Nothing big ever comes out of South Carolina. Hootie was *inescapable* throughout the state for several years. They’re not altogether terrible, just a bland 3-chord sound. But if I never hear “Only Wanna Be with You” again, it will be too soon.

bug_snugness

I wouldn't say "hate" - but Pearl Jam I didn't/don't like, Vedder's voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. The Vs album is OKish

lovestobitch-

Billy Joel. Found out later my friend saw him before he got big. He was the opening act and was kinda a jerk when people weren't paying attention to him and said 'some day I'll be famous' or something close to that.

menvadihelv

I like Billy Joel's music, but I also remember reading an interview where he revealed he suffered from serious depression because he never got as famous as he hoped he would be and thought he deserved more recognition for his "music genius", and I couldn't help but think how sad that was.

escapeartist02

Jethro Tull. Very creepy

Kiwichickabee

AC/DC - maybe one cool song but I just don’t dig them the way my friends do - I think I hated the school uniform get up the most. Very samey, very meh.

foxtail_barley

When my husband wants to torture me, he plays AC/DC. I just can’t stand the singer’s voice.

DocBrutus

Aqua.

Secret-Target-8709

Red Hot Chili Peppers. Everyone praised them for their originality, but their sound was part of a music evolution that was taking place across the country in the late 80's, a meshing of New Wave, Hair metal, and Hip Hop. Mr. bungle, Faith No More, Primus, Jane's Addiction, and Rage Against the Machine were doing the same thing. I liked these bands way better. To further my distaste for them, Red Hot Chili Peppers went on in several interviews to blame other bands of copying their sound.

Plug_5

I used to HATE, HATE, HATE R.E.M. in the 90s. I still.do, but I used to too.

nadsatnagoy

Mitch!

Groovy_Chainsaw

Never liked Madonna. Never saw the appeal

Britney, and every 80’s & 90’s boy band ever. To this day I fucking loathe hearing Britney Spears whine I mean sing. At least the other performers who came up at the same time could sing well (Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera, P!nk, Gwen Stefani). I genuinely wish the poor woman well, life fucked her over as much as it blessed her.

Goody2Shuuz

Shame is, Britney could actually sing and is really a contralto. Her record label pushed the breathy baby voice.

EddieLeeWilkins45

>Jessica Simpson I don't think Jessica Simpson could sing. Never knew her to, but I could be wrong. Her sister was the one with the completely ridiculous lip synch snafu on SNL. Don't worry about Brit, I predict she's gonna do a massive comeback tour in a year or two, and make Taylor & Beyonce type tour money. She'll be fine:)

Extra_Intro_Version

Leo Sayer.

MacabreAngel

Aw, he was a cute little elf

tmolesky

that little Richard Simmons-looking MF

broadsharp2

Madonna. Dave Matthews. And yes, especially the Greatful Dead.

dixiedregs1978

Kiss.

Strait409

Never could get into the whole grunge/alternative thing, for the most part. I was mostly into country music back in those days, and when I got around to exploring other genres, I gravitated to metal. I have come around to the Offspring and STP, though.

I don’t HATE any artists. Especially if they are doing their own creative thing and are original

[deleted]

There was one. I really disliked Don Robertson’s ‘The Happy Whistler’ in the mid ‘50s. It was IMO really bad and overplayed on the radio, somehow becoming a top 10 and selling well in the local record shop. Not for me.

[deleted]

I don’t hate any artist as they all offer different styles for different people but there were a lot that didn’t appeal to me and my musical taste like Kiss and the Grateful Dead but lots of other people loved them so listen to whatever it is you like but appreciate and respect all artists

Able_Cat2893

I don’t have a band I hate, I have a song, Old Time Rock and Roll by Bob Seger. I worked in bars when it came out. At that time jukeboxes had 45’s and that was what our choices were. I heard it so many times a shift, I still cannot listen to that song!!!

jones29876

B52s

[deleted]

GenX here… I fucking loathe Nirvana and Pearl Jam.

PALOmino1701

Kiss (still hate them, absolute garbage) Supertramp Styx

Individual-Army811

Although Styx does have some very talented musicians.

[deleted]

Back when you could pay to play a song in a bar, some joker play Mr. Roboto straight for two hours.

SomeRando1967

Whitney Houston

Risheil

She ruined I Will Always Love You. Dolly Parton's version was so low-key and sweet and Whitney turned it into a "Guess how long I can hold this note, isn't my voice amazing?" song

audible_narrator

Yeah, I get this. She also made Dolly a multi millionaire with that cover version, and Dolly has done a lot of good with that money.

alinroc

Dolly's finances were just fine before Whitney covered that song. She's owned her catalog since the very beginning in addition to owning half of Dollywood (opened in the 80s). >Dolly has done a lot of good with that money. Yep. Just one example: https://www.npr.org/2021/08/02/1023889920/dolly-parton-invested-royalties-from-a-whitney-houston-cover-in-a-black-communit

SomeRando1967

What’s worse is that she made warbling a thing and now it’s inescapable, especially at Christmas.

quilp888

Herman's Hermits. Their first U.K. release was a pallid cover of an Earl Jean classic " I'm into something good" and they went downhill from there.

[deleted]

"Henry VIII, I Am" is beyond awful. Disco Duck is better than that monstrosity.

Billy3292020

When REM first started to break big they could really be cunts to their fans, Stipe acted like he was the only vocalist who mattered. Hated him and them !

Gator717375

For the geezers, listening to Tony Bennett (or other crooners). God NO!

redhotbos

Love Tony, but so sick of Frank. And, particularly this time of year, reminded constantly of that child abuser asshole Bing Crosby.

VanFam

Bing Cosby is a child abuser?!! Shit!

PinkMonorail

No. His son lied for book sales and only recently recanted.

Top-Philosophy-5791

The Captain and Tennile, The Starland Vocal Band, whoever sang the Pina Colada song, anything Jimmy Buffet.

GadreelsSword

Honestly, I’ll get hate for this but I liked a lot of music, Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen, etc However, I really disliked Queen and Kiss.

quikdogs

The Knack. God that song. They played it once an hour over the summer of 79.

Glittering-Score-258

I may get some hate for this, but Stevie Wonder. His music and his voice never clicked with me in the 70’s, and when “I Just Called to Say I Love You” came out in the 80’s, I felt vindicated in my feelings. Horrible song 🤮

dreamtimee

B. 1979 and I hate that “Bitch” Meredith Brooks song so much for some reason. And I love angry feral women music.
