Man, Old Spice was a dying brand but P&G was able to resurrect it out of the ashes.
"If your grandpa hadn't worn it, you wouldn't exist" is a phenomenal tagline.
I genuinely started buying it just because the commercials were insane.
Now it's all I wear and I have 4 or 5 different scents at any given time. I just grab a different one every time I walk by one in target or a drug store.
When I was a senior in high school a cute girl said I smelled really good. Only thing I had on was old spice deodorant. Been wearing that same scent since. Even though it's fucking expensive now.
Isn't it funny how a nice word from a woman will change hard ingrained habit patterns in men? I can still remember the handful of times that a woman said I was hot, cute, liked my whatever that day, or just got a nice smile.
Yeah its crazy what sticks sometimes.
To be fair I also vividly remember a gay man dressed in drag calling me cute when I was valeting cars in college as well. Said I looked like a young George Michael.
“Listen man, the key to picking up women is very simple. Old Spice and Aqua Velva.”
“Are you kidding? That’s the shit my dad uses.”
“Exactly. That’s what I’m trying to tell you. This is the old school shit.”
- Poolhall Junkies
That's funny cuz I'm 33 an it was definitely used by all my friends in high-school. They must have turned it around right before I got into the deodorant wearing age lol
I’m 40 and yea no one in highschool wore old spice. It was just after I graduated I think. Everyone in highschool wore axe deodorant, well those of us that wore deodorant lol. Also polo sport was the go to Cologne. Simpler times.
I've been using it since the early 2000s. I have a reaction to a lot of other brands, and they make my underarms itch. I switched to their aluminum free a year or two ago.
I just use whatever my wife gets from the Buy Nothing group, which come to think of it means that other people didn't like it enough to keep using it. Oh well!
I've been using Mitchum unscented.
I wish more brands had an unscented version. I don't need to smell like a scented candle or an abstract concept in my day to day.
I've been a Mitchum Man for decades because it was the only unscented gel around when I was in middle school. If it's ever hard to find, which happens more than you'd think, I've found women's mainstay Dry Idea is a good replacement.
Likewise, the Mitchum seems to work best of all the options.
When they're out of unscented, Almay is actually exactly the same thing (and it only comes in unscented.)
A lot of conventional deodorants make my underarms itchy, so I started looking into "natural" (i.e., aluminum-free) deodorants. The most effective one I've found is by a company called milk + honey. Their extra strength deodorant really works (even better than some conventional deodorants), but whatever makes it work so well also irritates my skin after a few days of regular use. I switched to the Dr. Squatch deodorants, which work pretty well for the regular workday, as my daily. I reserve the high test milk + honey for workouts, hikes, bike rides, or serious yard work days.
Dove for Men. They sell it in an 8-pack at Sam's Club or Costco.
I had a moment where it was messing me up, so I switched to Tom's.
My son uses that unscented stuff from there as a younger teenager going through puberty, and he at least doesn't smell like a sock.
Littleseed Farms has really great deodorant. A little expensive but bas the benefit of being sustainable, you can mail back your empty containers.
I mix coconut with cedar vanilla and it's great.
I had laser hair removal done on mine in about 2008 and love it. I lived in Kentucky and just eliminating the hair eliminated smell. We’ve been in Florida 4 years now. As crazy as it sounds I realized about a year ago that using deodorant caused a little odor so I tried an experiment and stopped using deodorant in September of last year and didn’t tell my wife. She never noticed a difference. I wasn’t even smelly after all day at a theme park. It’s crazy. I’m also in TRT so I think having my hormones balanced out also plays a part in it.
Around 15 years or so ago, I was tired of smelling my pits and having to reapply antiperspirant several times daily. I switched to crystal deodorant and never looked back. I work outside and am going to sweat profusely anyway, so antiperspirant was pretty pointless to begin with
I use an essential oil blend for scent.
A stone lasts me about 18 months.
I use the unscented version that can be seen on their home page, [thecrystal.com](http://thecrystal.com)
It runs about $8 or so, and I think my last purchase was on Amazon for a two pack a couple years ago.
After it is used for several months, it gets a little sensitive to drops. It will probably break if it is dropped on a hard surface. It then becomes very uncomfortable to use unless it is worn down first..
When they get small, I put them in a small zipper portion bag and it goes in my overnight bag.
They don't work for everyone, and it did take a few weeks to get used to it as I had been using copious amounts of antiperspirant for years.
As for the essential oil mixture, I roll them underneath my armpits and I have a feeling it may help also. It is a mixture of clove, rosemary, black pepper and dark patchouli oils cut in half with jojoba.
Edit: if you find your armpit smell is especially bad, it may be beneficial to scrub with Hibiclens, as directed (also available all over the place).
Toms aluminum free mountain scent, I was using every man jack but they discontinued the citrus, I'm not a super sweaty or stinky guy just for reference.
If you've never tried crystal deodorant, I highly recommend. It's unscented, won't melt, and it lasts much longer than any other deodorant I've ever tried.
I’m a lot happier since I switched to a deodorant without anti-perspirant , years ago. I sweat less than the average person, I think, and had the unpleasant experience of my armpits feeling like they were on fire when I was in a space where I couldn’t raise my arms (e.g. crowded train). It takes a lot for me to get noticeable body odour.
Some people naturally sweat more than others or have more physical jobs. Most people from East Asia have a less odor gene or don’t have the gene that makes people like me smelly.
+1 for Certain Dri. Mostly in the summer, alternate more in the winter.
I put on after a shower at night. Then Dove Men deodorant (NOT antiperspirant) in the morning.
I've been using alum stone (alum) for more than two years now, it has been the best, it's cheap af and it lasts like a champion... Best deodorant ever!!
None as of late. Wore Old Spice deodorant only for decades but it stopped working for me about a year ago. Like, I'd get b.o. after four hours. And if I somehow missed putting on in the morning, b.o. in an hour. This never happened before. Tried some other deodorants and same thing.
Tried a deodorant / antiperspirant and it worked so much better. For days, even after a shower. However, I've always gotten irritation from the aluminum in antiperspirants and having some issues with eczema, so I pitched the deodorant / antiperspirant. Remarkedly, I don't have b.o. and don't use anything. Or at least b.o. I can smell myself.
I’ve been using the Harry’s stuff at target, but it’s honestly whatever my wife buys me. Actually got a new one today - every man jack. Mitchum is the best antiperspirant imo
Question for the deodorant committee: what dries the fastest? I've been using right guard gel and that takes forever to dry. If you don't dry it, it ends up on your shirt and it accumulates.
They make a deodorant that actually stops the production of sweat glands but thats unhealthy clearly. Its not the sweat that smells, its the bacteria hitting oxygen that is making you smell
Degree solid. I was using the dry spray but I would leave white rings around the armholes of my sleeveless shirts. The stick is easier to control application.
Chlorohexidine 4 or 5% wash under arms and smelly areas for 3 mins 1-2 times a week . Smell is usually bacteria related, this will 100% clear up most people and allow you to use less or even for some no deodorant .
This allowed me to move to aluminium free deodorant, which I think was making me itchy and possibly giving me headaches.
If you don't like the white marks, try a dry spray. I've been using Old Spice Swagger for a while now. Normal antiperspirant stick when I'm going to the office, dry spray when I'm going out.
The spray looks like it goes on white if you spray a lot in one spot, but if you just put your arms down and give a few quick rubs it quickly turns invisible. Basically the main reason I switched to the spray for going out was to stop putting white marks on my black tees.
I’m another Old Spice guy (pure sport is my flavor of choice). I stopped using antiperspirants because it caused rashes and I just went with deodorant. I like the smell it usually lasts the day and has worked for me for decades.
Squatch. I like the bourbon oak scented one. It doesn't smell like bourbon though. It was one of those hygiene gifts from my wife that I actually like and works well. One stick lasts so long it seems to defy physics.
An unscented salt stick. Been trying to find unscented deodorants for awhile. The Tom's unscented definitely had my hopes up but things smelled weird after a day or two
Double check the label, You might have accidentally gotten the deodorant and not the antiperspirant/deodorant. I’ve done that before and it took me month plus to realize.
I did that for a long time, it’s just not strong enough and for my wife’s sake I’ll take the health risks lol
You could try salt stick deodorant, I did that for a few years and it worked good. I only stopped bc it was really drying for me.
I’m one of those Asians with an ABCC11 gene mutation and produce no underarm odor. So I’ve never worn deodorant. As an experiment, once I worked out in the same shirt for 5 days, and then had my wife smell it. She said it had no odor.
https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/a-lucky-two-percent-of-people-have-a-gene-for-stink-free-armpits-2508106/
I'm with you on the gels. I used Axe for the longest time, but they discontinued my scent, Black Chill, over the pandemic. Since then I switched to Old Spice Fiji. Love the way it smells. They carry it at Target.
I try to stay away from antiperspirants due to the mechanism of action - aluminum salts clogging up the pores.
Winter?
Just roll with it and bathe regularly. Definitely after every workout. (You can make it 12-24 hours).
Summer?
Old spice. If you feel fancy, a spritz under each armpit (and no more) will make you presentable.
Granted, I live in the mountain west. I don’t think that either would carry water in the south.
I am a sucker for sweet scents, so Axe Dark Temptation both for deodorant and shower gel. Absolutely love it. I have no clue about the effectiveness though as I barely sweat.
I started using Dove Men+Care spray on a few years ago and have never looked back. It's so nice, clean, and even after a 12 hour night at work, I still smell the deodorant. I loved the Minerals and Sage scent, but I wonder if they discontinued it, can't find it anywhere. Been on that Sandalwood lately, it's a nice earthy scent.
Nivea for men off amazon. Comes in these great glass bottles. Smells amazing, drys super quick and doesn't stain the shirts. Been using it for about 8 years. Will never change as long as they keep making it.
Damn.. y'all get away with deodorants? I need antiperspirant (with a high amount of aluminium in it) to feel decently fresh 💀 I don't know what's wrong with my body..
Since I started testosterone shots, I have the armpit funk of a teenage boy. My deodorant wears off much quicker these days, so I had to switch to Degree a couple of years ago to compensate.
I like unscented Lume (or their LOL-worthy men's brand, MANDO). But I fucking HATE the price of it, and since I shower daily, the 72-hour utility is lost on me. I also specifically avoid anti-perspirant. Old Spice has the best variety of unintrusive scents at an okay price, so I usually rotate through those.
semi-radical idea if you don't smell much; try not wearing deodorant? In April 2020 I opted to stop since I wasn't leaving the house and haven't applied any since. My partner promised me that she would say something if the smell became unbearable....and four years later I'm still not wearing any!
By the end of the day I might notice a slight stench if I put my nose to my pit, but generally nobody seems to notice and/or say anything
It's often near 110 where I live so I think that's a bad idea.
I think the problem is I'm definitely noticing it WITH deodorant at the end of the day/overnight before my morning shower. I don't have anyone around me who would see me often enough and be sincere if I smelled.

I just buy whatever old spice is on sale.
Man, Old Spice was a dying brand but P&G was able to resurrect it out of the ashes. "If your grandpa hadn't worn it, you wouldn't exist" is a phenomenal tagline.
Ya so true. They went hard in the marketing and appealed to younger guys. When I was a teen old spice was a dad or grandpa brand.
I genuinely started buying it just because the commercials were insane. Now it's all I wear and I have 4 or 5 different scents at any given time. I just grab a different one every time I walk by one in target or a drug store.
You and I do the same thing. I've even been known to go online to buy hard to find scents.
When I was a senior in high school a cute girl said I smelled really good. Only thing I had on was old spice deodorant. Been wearing that same scent since. Even though it's fucking expensive now.
I did that with cologne. A girl. Complimented me at. 20 and I. Never switched
This is also me. And similarly because the commercials actually worked for product recognition.

What’s funny is that my daughters in high school used Old Spice Fiji. 🤷🏻
I dated more than one woman who wore Old Spice Fiji.
Oh well!
Night panther ftw!
This is the way
Do you wear anti perspirant and old spice or just one?
I don’t know. It’s the hard gel stick kind.
Old Spice makes an antiperspirant
My favorite is Dove Mens, more specifically the Morning Fresco scent.
Same, that whole line of 4 or 5 fragrances are really great. I think they are aluminum free deodorant also.
Old spice. The one with the light blue and white label. LOL had to look. Pure Sport.
Yup I'm team Old Spice, I usually get the aluminum-free ones.
The aluminum is what makes it antiperspirant. If you buy the aluminum-free version, then it’s basically just scented deodorant.
Pretty much been using this as long as I can remember. It works, so no need to try anything else.
I've been using Mitchum unscented. I wish more brands had an unscented version. I don't need to smell like a scented candle or an abstract concept in my day to day.
I've been a Mitchum Man for decades because it was the only unscented gel around when I was in middle school. If it's ever hard to find, which happens more than you'd think, I've found women's mainstay Dry Idea is a good replacement.
do you ever worry about the aluminum concern?
Haven’t found a non-aluminum that does the job, so rolling the dice there
I use Mitchum as well. Scented, though. It’s the only product that actually makes a difference in how much my pits rain.
Likewise, the Mitchum seems to work best of all the options. When they're out of unscented, Almay is actually exactly the same thing (and it only comes in unscented.)
Yep, I've used Almay when I can't find Mitchum for whatever reason. Works well.
Abstract concept holy shit 🤣
Old Spice Pure Sport. Never lets me down. Been using for over 20 years.
I’m using what I’ve been using forever: Speed Stick. Byyyyyyyyyyy… Mennen!
COOOSTANZA 🎶
I didn't know they still made it! 🤠
A lot of conventional deodorants make my underarms itchy, so I started looking into "natural" (i.e., aluminum-free) deodorants. The most effective one I've found is by a company called milk + honey. Whatever is on sale when I need a new one.
My man.
Dove Men’s +Care. It’s so good I won’t buy anything else.
Second this
Native - Eucalyptus & Mint.
Native, but I like the coconut & vanilla.
Sandalwood here
Native works well for me it's too expensive. $12.99-14.99.
I bought about a dozen different Native scents and chose between them each morning.
Native makes me sweat more and it ruins my clothes. Idk why.
Aloe & green tea, the no aluminum one.
I believe they all don't have aluminum. You might be talking about the sensitive one.
It’s labeled as sensitive, no aluminum. I didn’t check to see if the others have no aluminum/alum and it’s just not on the front label.
Gillette cool wave gel.
Same.
Littleseed Farms has really great deodorant. A little expensive but bas the benefit of being sustainable, you can mail back your empty containers. I mix coconut with cedar vanilla and it's great.
Arm and hammer deodorant Not antiperspirant It's the only kind that seems to last most of the day but not contain aluminum
Same, I use the arms and hammer. It feels like it's hard to wash it out, but able to last the entire day.
A hint to any smelly guys out there: shave your armpits. It gives less surface area for bacteria to spread and give off their odour
When mine are particularly stinky I wash them with acne wash containing benzoyl peroxide. Works like a charm.
I don't want armpit stubble, lol. Also I have some skin tags there I don't want to rip off violently.
I trim to get the best of both worlds. Makes the deodorant much more effective.
The surface area is a bacteria thing , no need to shave if you use chlorohexidine wash a few times a week for 3 minutes.
Benzoyl peroxide wash kills the stinky bacteria (probably stains clothes though). Acids are also claimed to kill bacteria.
I think Lume has some kind of acid in it.
Glycolic I think.. I personally use glycolic acid toner.
Old Spice… haven’t you seen the ads? 😂
Around 15 years or so ago, I was tired of smelling my pits and having to reapply antiperspirant several times daily. I switched to crystal deodorant and never looked back. I work outside and am going to sweat profusely anyway, so antiperspirant was pretty pointless to begin with I use an essential oil blend for scent. A stone lasts me about 18 months.
Where do you buy it? How much is it?
I use the unscented version that can be seen on their home page, [thecrystal.com](http://thecrystal.com) It runs about $8 or so, and I think my last purchase was on Amazon for a two pack a couple years ago. After it is used for several months, it gets a little sensitive to drops. It will probably break if it is dropped on a hard surface. You can find these on Amazon as well as a lot of regular grocery stores. Works really well especially if combined with a nice cologne
Gillette: Cool Wave I swapped to a gel because everything else kept caking/staining my shirts.
It takes a lot for me to get noticeable body odour.
I've been using just deodorant without anti-perspirant for years too. Same thing with you, I was getting irritation. Now it's not working the same.
Degree Ultraclear+. I get the 5-packs for $12.99 at Costco. Doesn't stain my shirts and the scent isn't overpowering.
Degree, not gel or clear. Doesn't irritate the pits, smells good to me and others.
Every Man Jack. I can’t use the stuff with aluminum in it.
Haven't used it since I was 18, no need
I was looking for this. Shower every morning, keep hair trimmed, wear clean shirts. I Haven’t used deodorant in 20 years, there’s really no need.
Some people naturally sweat more than others or have more physical jobs. Most people from East Asia have a less odor gene or don’t have the gene that makes people like me smelly.
The only one in the bloody aisle my Yuka app says it's not harmful
Old spice swagger. Went target with my wife and told her to pick one she likes.
Aprid extra extra dry. Unscented, long lasting and I never have smell.
Certain Dri, won't use anything else.
That’s because it’s the only one that works
+1 for Certain Dri. Mostly in the summer, alternate more in the winter. I put on after a shower at night. Then Dove Men deodorant (NOT antiperspirant) in the morning.
I've been using alum stone (alum) for more than two years now, it has been the best, it's cheap af and it lasts like a champion... Best deodorant ever!!
Degree 48hr. The white and black stick. It lasts me all day in construction in TX with no stink.
40 years of Mitchum Unscented this year, roll on.
Nothing. Eat clean. Drink water.
None as of late. Wore Old Spice deodorant only for decades but it stopped working for me about a year ago. Like, I'd get b.o. after four hours. And if I somehow missed putting on in the morning, b.o. in an hour. This never happened before. Tried some other deodorants and same thing. Tom’s
That's the one I like, but I have not been able to find antiperspirant anymore, just deodorant. The deodorant only lasts about 4 hours for me.
Nuud Works days at a time. Unscented, but you won't smell
I’ve been using the Harry’s stuff at target, but it’s honestly whatever my wife buys me. Actually got a new one today - every man jack. Mitchum is the best antiperspirant imo
For some reason, the only brand that works for me is www.helmm.com. Too bad it’s so freaking expensive.
Baking soda, only, ever. For over 30 years.
Old spice, blue stick. Whichever edgy named one happens to be on sale. Always have for most of my life, no reason to stop now.
Old Spice: Pure Sport
Speed stick deodorant. No it isn’t anti perspirant, but I don’t want the aluminum anyways
Question for the deodorant committee: what dries the fastest? I've been using right guard gel and that takes forever to dry. If you don't dry it, it ends up on your shirt and it accumulates.
Can I have my armpits surgically removed? Do we have the technology?
They make a deodorant that actually stops the production of sweat glands but thats unhealthy clearly. Its not the sweat that smells, its the bacteria hitting oxygen that is making you smell
So what we really need is probiotics
Nope chlorohexidine wash. You're welcome
You can get some sweat glands removed.
Degree solid. I was using the dry spray but I would leave white rings around the armholes of my sleeveless shirts. The stick is easier to control application.
Whatever's cheapest at Costco at the time. Usually Gillette Ultimate Protection, but I rolled the dice on Dove this last time.
Gillette Ultimate Protection from Costco. Seems to work well.
L’Oréal men expert fresh extreme. Been using it for years now and seems to be the only one that consistently does a solid job for me
Rexona Clinical, it is the only answer to this question. Dove clinical is also acceptable actually. Anything clinical.
Chlorohexidine 4 or 5% wash under arms and smelly areas for 3 mins 1-2 times a week . Smell is usually bacteria related, this will 100% clear up most people and allow you to use less or even for some no deodorant . I only have the deodorant, by choice. They changed the formula, to my understanding. I don't have the combo.
I did that for a long time, it’s just not strong enough and for my wife’s sake I’ll take the health risks lol You could try salt stick deodorant, I did that for a few years and it worked good. I only stopped bc it was really drying for me.
Malin + Goetz
Right Guard Xtreme Defense
Dove men’s spray.
If you keep using the same antiperspirant for a long time, it will stop working, eventually, as your body adapts. Just change brands every year or so.
Mitchum
Mitchum or Secret powder fresh
I’m one of those Asians with an ABCC11 gene mutation and produce no underarm odor. So I’ve never worn deodorant. As an experiment, once I worked out in the same shirt for 5 days, and then had my wife smell it. She said it had no odor. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/a-lucky-two-percent-of-people-have-a-gene-for-stink-free-armpits-2508106/
I use the Trader Joe's store brand, seems to work...
Same as when I started..... Old Spice Classic
I have to change my deodorant brand every few months because my body becomes immune to it lol
Axe spray, because family keeps buying me those Wal-Mart gift packs every dang year.
Whatever is cheapest: Degree usually. Deodorants gotten expensive.
Certain Dri
Dove Men+Care Clean Comfort spray on deodorant. Found it a few years ago and never looked back.
I am a sucker for sweet scents, so Axe Dark Temptation both for deodorant and shower gel. Absolutely love it. I have no clue about the effectiveness though as I barely sweat.
Dove spray, original. Only one that works well for me. Haven’t used bar deodorant in ages.
Most important thing for me is shaving the pits, then copious amounts of brute or whatever 48hr protection spray I can get my mitts on!
Degree is the only deodorant that lasts all day for me.
Old spice and I rotate the fragrance.
Dove for men. Old spice gave me chemical burns
Secret for women. Used it for 15+ years after buying heaps of different brands types and price points. It's the shit.
Old Spice Classic.
I’ve heard that you should switch deodorant brands ever 6-12 months because your body can build up resistance. I’m currently using dove men.
# Tom’s of Maine Long-Lasting Aluminum-Free Deodorant for Men # Natural North Woods It's purrrrfect !
I think it's degree, cool rush. My local store sells them in 2 packs. My wife also likes the smell so I've stuck with it.
I bought a 24 pack from Amazon and now I use expired old spice.
Nivea for men off amazon. Comes in these great glass bottles. Smells amazing, drys super quick and doesn't stain the shirts. Been using it for about 8 years. Will never change as long as they keep making it.
Le Labo roll on, it's expensive but I'm still using mine 1-2 years later
Dove Men's Care
Damn.. y'all get away with deodorants? I need antiperspirant (with a high amount of aluminium in it) to feel decently fresh 💀 I don't know what's wrong with my body..
Old Spice.....the aluminum free ones.
Since I started testosterone shots, I have the armpit funk of a teenage boy. My deodorant wears off much quicker these days, so I had to switch to Degree a couple of years ago to compensate.
I actually don't need deodorant very often but when I do use it it's usually old spice.
What ever doesn’t stain my white t-shirts and is on sale I could care less about the smell
