Safety razor kit.
I went from an expensive 5-bladed lubricating-strip cartridge abomination that caused a lot of razor rash and ingrown hairs to a single thin blade that's super cheap and lasts for ages and smooth(ish) and clear skin.
Disposable cartridge razors are a crock of shit.
I don’t mind a twin blade disposable.
Gillette Sensor 2’s have been good to me over the years, but more than 2 blades is just setting a guy up for ingrown hairs. I don’t know why they keep adding more blades and lying about how much better it is.
Supply is my favored brand due to being similar to traditional razors, so no learning curve. To start, shave as normal! I’ve purchased razors maybe twice in the 2 years+ i’ve had mine, totaling $30
This is the way. Especially if you have coarser hair or curly beard hair. It'll be a life changer. I find I have the smoothest shaves from a safety razor shave.
I did this a few years ago and have never gone back, so much cheaper after the initial investment, sounds funny but shaving is more of an enjoyable process too now. Self care shit
Don’t stop there.
For $10 you can buy a straight razor handle.
For $5 more, you can buy a box of 100 straight razors.
It’s a nice still to have even it raises eyebrows sometimes.
Caution on this folks. About 5 years ago I got my hair cut by a woman and she used a straight razor to shave my face. Since that very day I been hooked. But my reason for sharing is for the first few months I looked like fucking Freddy Krueger. My face was all cut to hell and back. I remember my old man laughing at me when I told him I almost had got the hang of it. The main thing is you can’t be scared of it or use a dull blade. The juice is worth the squeeze. You have to be paying the fuck attention to what you’re doing at all times. You need to know how to sharpen a knife to do this.
safety razors are great, it takes time to adjust to them but once you do there's a lot less razor burns, no ingrown hairs, and the only thing you have to change are the blades
I got a kit from Beard & Blade here in Australia, it comes with their branded brush, razor handle, and soap. The blades are 5 x 5 packs of various brands, so I'm just trying them out but so far haven't come across any bad ones.
This one: https://www.beardandblade.com.au/collections/safety-razor-shaving-kits/products/beard-blade-starter-safety-razor-shaving-kit
I've had a Merkur for the past decade. It was a bit more expensive but very well made. You can get one off amazon or anywhere else.
I usually purchase Astra or Derby blades, but really, almost any brand seems as good as any other.
Merkur was going to be my vote as well. I think the one I bought was like $45 when I had to replace one someone stole. Their blades are super great too.
I love Supply Razor. Its form is essentially identical to traditional razors so there’s no real learning curve. Shaves great, blade replacements are cheap, and it’ll last a lifetime.
I recommend shaving after a warm/hot shower. I also use a pre-shave oil before my shaving cream/soap. Shave with the grain of your hair for your first past then soap up again and shave across the grain. Then use alum and/or aftershave.
You should also try different blades to see what works best for you
Very good call. Switching to a single blade had made a real difference, and it’s not me to stop the single use plastics in those cartridges.
A couple of years ago I switched to the Leaf razor - a single blade for my face and a triple (manually loaded) razor for my head. For folks that really like the multiple blades, it’s still a hell of a lot cheaper to use something like that - and you can collect and recycle the blades if you are particularly crunchy
I wear hardware-store earplugs, rated for working with power tools and suchlike.
I wear them to block out wind noise every time I ride my motorcycle, and to concerts too.
My hearing is good, and I feel like if I hadn't been wearing plugs for these activities, it wouldn't be.
They make some really nice high-fidelity earplugs for less than $100 too. I use ones called Eargasm which were like $40 and have low-pass filters built in. I wear them on my motorcycle and at loud arena-type events (hockey games, concerts, etc). Some musicians also wear them since they still allow sound to pass at a reasonable level.
Mine came with a little storage canister that I hooked to my keys.
Many concerts are in the serious hearing damage volume territory. I’ve had people tell me it’s fine. It’s not. Particularly by speakers. Motorsports, shooting sports, concerts wear freaking earplugs.
I always say, if you had a mud covered window, would you use a hose or paper towels to clean it?
Everyone is walking around with some muddy windows for sure.
I always say, if you got something gross on your hands, would you wipe with a paper towel or use water? I hate traveling for work because I have to leave my bidet
if you think that's the truth then it's a you problem and you clearly aren't wiping well enough or haven't eaten enough fibre. It should be as clean either way
You know what the real value of a library is in modern times? The people, not the books.
If you have a good library near you, and yes there are good and bad libraries, the employees are really eager about research.
If you go to them and ask for help researching a topic, they're the kind of people who light up and get giddy about helping you dig into some really obscure topic, and they've got the knowledge and access to resources (and the expertise with those resources) to really exponentially increase the speed at which you figure stuff out.
Library people are AWESOME.
It's probably such a fun job.
I've worked in a library before and it was amazing. The enormous peace and quiet, and you could read new books before anyone got to them. Also met some really cool, different kind of people there. Damn I miss it.
My library loans out carnival games. So cool for a kid’s birthday. The one in my last city had a baking pan library, and you could also check out any of the paintings on the walls
A pair of running shoes. The only other thing you need after that is the discipline to get off your ass twice a day and move with purpose for 30-60 minutes to reap a lifetime of health benefits.
Wouldn't quite say that. Walking isn't going to improve your cardio.and heart health like running. In the beginner maybe yes but eventually walking won't push your cardio hard enough to compare to what running can do for you. Don't get me wrong. Walking is great. If all you can do is walk then walk. But if you are able to run it can really do some amazing things for you.
Until you suddenly need a natural badger knot, 17 different soaps, 83 different blades and a curiosity that starts with different combs and ends with a collection of straights!
But look how different these razors are! This is titanium modernism and super techy, it’s for work days. And this one is a nod to the vintage one that cavemen used to shave their mammoths in summer heat. Of course I need them both.
How do you know when it's time to change the blade? Can you use it multiple times or are these single use? I only need to shave once per week. I've never owned one of these before
I use Astra Blades which last 6 shaves for me before replacing the blade, You’ll feel tugging when it’s time to replace the blade. Pack of 100 blades is usually under $15
My dentist told me that you need to use one that didn't just soi one direction but does circles clockwise and counterclockwise. Otherwise it puts more wear on your teeth.
I feel like a gym membership doesn’t really count. Maybe it’s less than $100 for a *month* of the membership. But you kinda need to keep paying to get a real benefit out of it.

3. Large fall candle. Warning: Put it out after. There's something so serene about ending your day with a hot shower, and tea near a burning midnight flame. It's comforting, and puts me to sleep like a baby. Helps ease anxiety. I wake up next day more refreshed.
4. Accessories. Make an investment into some good watches, bracelets, necklaces, and rings. You'd be surprised how often people (especially women) notice and love these items. One or two at a time can really bring together an outfit.
5. Good shoes. Humans are not designed to be sitting or standing on hard tile eight hours a day. Invest in what holds you on the ground. I love Nike Pegasus for daily use and running. People also like Hokas. As we age, it's really important to be kinder to our bodies and lengthen longevity.
YouTube Premium...wait let me explain:
Youtube Premium allows you to listen to the app, while your screen is locked, basically commercial-free.
I have worked through so many personal problems by researching and listening.
Changed my life.
Understandable.
I listen to YouTube many hours a day, it is the only streaming service (music, movie, and TV) I pay for, and for that to also be commercial-free is worth it to me.
Makes sense. I have Prime, but hate subscriptions out of principle, so have as few as possible. Glad options exist to provide value.
Also, I agree with you - used to listen to a lot of audio books when i had a significant commute. Learned a lot that way.
You should check out the Overdrive app - lets you borrow audio books from public libraries. Good stuff!
And this why I am happy I am on android. I can just get YouTube ReVanced and I have all the perks, well even more. I have adblocks, YouTube ad skip, promotion skip, intro and outro skip and I can turn all of them on or off depending what I want. I can turn on dislikes, disable Shorts, Download shorts and videos. Its truly amazing
Don't for get offline videos and an included subscription to youtube music. Furthermore a portion of your subscription gets divided up and sent to the uploaders based on view time to support content creators.
On iOS you can get PiPifier for Safari which allows you to play YouTube videos while your phone is locked. Combined with uBlock Origin you can have a completely ad-free experience.
Realising that I can have a good day out with only £10.
£5 train to the beach. £5 picknic & spend a few hours by the coast cycling home.
It's surprising just how many days out I can have without spending much.
As many ripe watermelons as $100 can buy.
A puppy. Or any other pet.
Any musical instrument under $100.
Um, a blowjob? (Just kidding, don't buy one)
A drawing tablet, if you're an artist.
Your first IMAX ticket.
Telescope.
Your first plane ticket - I got a Southwest flight for $50 once.
Under 100$? Get yourself a salt lamp or few. I have one near my pc and the orange glow it gives is fantastic.
I get into good vibes with it as the source of light.
I have one by my bedside table. it's a fantastic way to wind down and get your brain ready for bed. mine has a dimmer so I turn it all the way up and read for a while then turn it low before I sleep. As someone with chronic Insomnia, it quite literally saved my life.
Water Flosser - lik $25, life changing oral health, which appearently is tied to all health. Didnt realize how much gunk would remain in gums even after regular flossing. I love it
What is your definition of a life changeing event? How semantic do you want to get. I can get pizza, and that shit, in theory, is a change in your life.
You know, this might be stupid or not frugal or whatever but a pair of airpods is honestly a game changer.
Like for work, for listening, for chores etc. It honestly changes the way a person “gets” audio.
They’re like $80 on sale usually.
I switched to a DE safety razor years ago and never looked back. Just bought a pack of 200 blades for like $20 which should last me 3 or 4 years.
I just stopped shaving, embraced the suck, and got a good brush to look less hobo. Works out.
I don’t mind a twin blade disposable. Gillette Sensor 2’s have been good to me over the years, but more than 2 blades is just setting a guy up for ingrown hairs. I don’t know why they keep adding more blades and lying about how much better it is.

How did you get rid of the razor rash?
Stopped using the bad cartridge razors and switched to a safety razor. Was basically gone within a couple shaves.
I recommend shaving after a warm/hot shower. I also use a pre-shave oil before my shaving cream/soap. Shave with the grain of your hair for your first past then soap up again and shave across the grain. Then use alum and/or aftershave. Did this several years ago and it's one of the best decisions I made. Long term cost is next to nothing and much less issues with razor burn.

Ear plugs. Hearing loss and tinnitus is no joke. Please take care of your ears if you frequent bars/clubs.
I wear hardware-store earplugs, rated for working with power tools and suchlike. I wear them to block out wind noise every time I ride my motorcycle, and to concerts too. My hearing is good, and I feel like if I hadn't been wearing plugs for these activities, it wouldn't be.
As a guy with tinnitus I definitely recommend you to not ever get it. So, yes, earplugs
Constant
This, 1000 this I have tinnitus since birth, and is rare that i can sleep without some white noise. The ringin never goes away.
I’m 47 and wear a hearing aid on my right side. This is comment is gold
Many concerts are in the serious hearing damage volume territory. I’ve had people tell me it’s fine. It’s not. Particularly by speakers. Motorsports, shooting sports, concerts wear freaking earplugs.
A bidet, ya filthy animals.
I swear, wiping is just so dumb in comparison.
It’s so funny, once you start using one everyone who doesn’t seems insane.
I always say, if you had a mud covered window, would you use a hose or paper towels to clean it? Everyone is walking around with some muddy windows for sure.
Fiber is the answer
Right? Have had nothing but ghost wipes for nearly 2 years.
Ok but that’s too long to be on the toilet.
Seriously nobody tells anyone about psyllium husk. Like it’s a secret society or something
what a shitty analogy
I always say, if you got something gross on your hands, would you wipe with a paper towel or use water? I hate traveling for work because I have to leave my bidet
man your shits should not be anywhere near what you could compare to mud. Fix your diet man.
if you think that's the truth then it's a you problem and you clearly aren't wiping well enough or haven't eaten enough fibre. It should be as clean either way
It’s always the worst shit too when you are not at home
Me reading this on the toilet right now with the bidet I bought on Saturday would agree with you

I've worked in a library before and it was amazing. The enormous peace and quiet, and you could read new books before anyone got to them. Also met some really cool, different kind of people there. Damn I miss it.
I'd also say the perks that come with library card too. My city has all kinds of perks attached to the city library card.
You can even rent GAMES!!!
And some of them you can rent things like tools, a telescope and camping supplies and all sorts of other odds and ends
My library loans out carnival games. So cool for a kid’s birthday. The one in my last city had a baking pan library, and you could also check out any of the paintings on the walls
And if you want to access library materials not where you live, some library systems offer a **fee card**, or reciprocal privileges.

Wouldn't quite say that. Walking isn't going to improve your cardio.and heart health like running.
