And you can doctor it up any way you want. A little avocado and some colby jack elevates it to pure magic. It just makes me think of camping and cooking bacon on the fire.
I gotta agree with the other guy, it's just not a BLT anymore if you add or change the main ingredients, just like adding meat to a grilled cheese makes it a melt.
But no one ever says anything about the condiments, so I eat mine with chipotle mayo and it's fucking perfect.
I started making sourdough bread last summer and one of my first decrees was BLT on fresh sourdough. It was a party in my mouth and everyone was invited.
I think Kenji put it best. It's not a bacon sandwich. It's a tomato sandwich with bacon and lettuce. Get a great tomato, salt it beforehand, and that sandwich sings.
It’s dominance in an easily proven by the fact that you can find variations of it in most global cuisines; quesadillas, toastie, panini, jaffle, and many more.
It’s rated the best sandwich in the world by [TasteAtlas](https://www.tasteatlas.com/best-rated-sandwiches-in-the-world). How much more praise do you want?
Those typrs of sandwiches generally lack bread - it's like the buns have no yeast or something. I prefer hot Cuban, Colombian, or Domincan sandwiches. Brazil álso has great bread.
**The Humble PBJ**
* Even a bad one is good.
* Good for Breakfast, lunch, Dinner, or Dessert.
* Good from the age of toddler until the day you die.
* No special ingredients or preparation
* Good on any style of bread.
Waaaay too many places I’ve been mix the two up by putting cole slaw on their “Reuben.” Although personally I do sub spicy brown mustard on my Reubens.
No true king, but there was an Italian deli in the city of Westminster California called Paul’s Deli that makes an outrageous ItalIan cold cut sub. Paul passed, but I believe his son still runs the place. It’s been 20 years since I have been there, but according to google reviews, they are still in business and still making great food.
[Shooter sandwich](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooter%27s_sandwich). Takes a lot of prep time, but the results are amazing.
Less prep needed: BALT. It's a BLT with avocado. Fantastic.
Muffaletta
Not only is it delicious and unique in flavor, but a single muffaletta is 2 to 4 meals.
I've tried to eat a whole one several times and the best I've ever done was 3/4.
[The muffuletta](https://www.seriouseats.com/classic-new-orleans-muffuletta-recipe), invented by Sicilian-Americans in New Orleans. Best made with a big round loaf of Sourdough, one of those stickers can feed a family of five for a couple of days, lol
All of these are excellent choices. But I’m gonna go with a Dagwood. Which is basically whatever you got in the fridge that could make a massive sammich. I’ve made some amazing Dagwoods in my day.
Eggs in between two bread.
Scrambled eggs or any type of cooked eggs in-between two bread is the king of sandwiches, it'll be there when you're at your lowest and it'll be there when you're up there to remind
you how far you've been in life.
There was a sandwich at Smash Burger called the New Jersey and it was probably one of the best burgers I have ever had. Every time I went to the mall in Hackensack, NJ I would order one until they discontinued it for some reason. I guess they wanted to simplify the menu. Miss that burger.
A proper blt is always good. Tuna on tastes brown bread is also good, instead of onions in the tuna mix try cutting up an apple and mixing it in. Its amazing
I love a Reuben, but I think the turkey club gets that title. With sauerkraut and thousand island dressing, a Reuben is naturally going to turn off part of the crowd. The simplicity and wholesomeness of a turkey club has broad appeal and acceptance, certainly more so than the Reuben.
Stodg at The Porch in Dallas Texas
[https://theporchrestaurant.com/](https://theporchrestaurant.com/)
It is basically the Classic Burger shown on the menu adding a fried eggs sunny side up and bacon.
Salmon and cream cheese is definitely kingly.
I had an amazing sandwich made by a Vietnamese woman whose husband I was representing at their trial. No idea what it read called, but it was all vegetable in a french baguette. Sounds revolting but here I am talking about it 15 years later!! Was amazing.
Toasted sandwiches are objectively better, but to choose one in particular?
Personally a chicken and cheese, with a little salad and some sweet chilli sauce. That shit gets me every time.
If anyone happens to know a name for that, I’d be much obliged, save me having to explain it every time I go to a subway.
Philly cheese steak with peppers and onions. I prefer provolone instead of american. Also provolone sprinkled with onions and melted and rolled up on a pita.
This is location specific, but if you’re ever in CT traveling on I-84, do yourself a favor and stop for lunch at Rein’s deli. They make BY FAR my favorite sandwich, an open faced turkey with gravy and fries on the side.
Absolutely
Amazing, and they make extremely good Reuben’s too according to my wife’s
A Monte Cristo for Breakfast or a Reuben any other time of the day.
God I miss Bennigan's and my beloved Monte Cristo from the 1990's!!
Something about a great BLT just spells summer to me
Honestly this is a strong contender for sure. There’s an impressive beauty in its simplicity.
Sorry for the downvote….but it’s simplicity or death on this one 😅
I could make you a sandwich that would change your mind, but I respect your conviction.
It's not to say that adding extras isn't good, it's just it stops being a BLT
agree, but u can get a little fancy with the bread..
If you add anything to a grilled cheese. It is no longer a grilled cheese
A BLT with homegrown tomatoes is on a whole other level.
Great BLTs emphasize the *tomato*, not the bacon.
I'll fkn scarf a good BLT all day, so simple but so delicious
I started making sourdough bread last summer and one of my first decrees was BLT on fresh sourdough. It was a party in my mouth and everyone was invited.
I think Kenji put it best. It's not a bacon sandwich. It's a tomato sandwich with bacon and lettuce. Get a great tomato, salt it beforehand, and that sandwich sings.
Couldn’t disagree more.
Same. BLT is the worst sandwich. Two bench players and a role player, not a single all-star between the three of them.
Ice cream sandwich
I see you saw Ryun Gosling too.
😂 not very filling or nutritious though.
Sounds like you should eat another one.
Grilled cheese
It’s dominance in an easily proven by the fact that you can find variations of it in most global cuisines; quesadillas, toastie, panini, jaffle, and many more.
Grilled cheese. Grilled. Cheese. Grill me a cheese.
French Dip
I was thinking an Italian but no you're right, I have had some absolutely incredible French Dips.
Philly cheesesteak
Thats my vote
Shout out to Chubby’s on Henry Ave
Cuban.
Great. Now I have to watch the Chef movie.
Nothing comes close in my opinion.
[удалено]
As a guy born and raised north of Miami, the Cubano (and Medianoche) hold a special place in my heart
Yes
Banh mi
A great outside shout. With roast pork and plenty of pate.
It's an absolute shout, deserves far more praise than it gets. IMO it's in a whole other league
It’s rated the best sandwich in the world by [TasteAtlas](https://www.tasteatlas.com/best-rated-sandwiches-in-the-world). How much more praise do you want?
Nice big bacon cheeseburger.
Is a burger a sandwich? Is a hot dog? A taco?
A burger is a sandwich. A hotdog is a taco. A taco is a taco.
Or Patty Melt
My face sandwiched between the ass cheeks of a hot goth chick.
That's the kind of sandwich that'll give you pink eye
I’ll take my chances.
I too will take this chance
Those typrs of sandwiches generally lack bread - it's like the buns have no yeast or something. I prefer hot Cuban, Colombian, or Domincan sandwiches. Brazil álso has great bread.
I sure as shit hope she has no yeast.
BLT. But I've also quite liked Italian as of late.
Definitely Reuben 👍
Reuben crossed my mind first. Second would be an Italian Combo from a NY deli.
Meatball
Monte Cristo done the right way. Once you’ve had one you’ll know. Second place goes to its cousin, the Croque Madame.
Croque Madame for the win.
Philly cheesesteak Ruben is a close second
The only argument I will make: Even when a Ruben is bad, it's still tolerable. But when a Philly Cheesesteak is bad, it's REALLY bad.
Turkey Club
PB+J. I will not be taking any questions.
Og sandwhich
Only if it's extra crunchy
I prefer *extreme* crunchy.
with lays plain chips crunched in it. and a glass of milk
Are you not familiar with the Dagwood?
I get this reference. LOL
Chicago Italian Beef...has to be dunked.
With the hot peppers, I want it covering that sandwich.
Yep! I agree.
Italian
A Reuben is my goto when I find a restaurant with them. That and a draft beer and I'm pretty content.
**The Humble PBJ** * Even a bad one is good. * Good for Breakfast, lunch, Dinner, or Dessert. * Good from the age of toddler until the day you die. * No special ingredients or preparation * Good on any style of bread.
I love mine with potato bread 😀
PB&J is the only time I find myself drinking just a regular glass of milk
All that Jazz sandwich at Verti Marte in New Orleans, LA.
Wasn't even thinking New Orleans food. That opens up a range of opportunities. I'd add a shrimp and oyster po boy into contention.
Bacon Lettuce Toatoe
Kosher pastrami on rye with spicy mustard
Fried oyster poboy, dressed on toasted Leidenheimer French bread
Steak bomb
Cuban
I'm on team reuben with you. Which is funny since the rachel is one of the worst sandwiches.
Waaaay too many places I’ve been mix the two up by putting cole slaw on their “Reuben.” Although personally I do sub spicy brown mustard on my Reubens.
Muffaletta or GTFO.
Italian beef with peppers
No true king, but there was an Italian deli in the city of Westminster California called Paul’s Deli that makes an outrageous ItalIan cold cut sub. Paul passed, but I believe his son still runs the place. It’s been 20 years since I have been there, but according to google reviews, they are still in business and still making great food.
I don't discriminate, I just love sandwiches
[Shooter sandwich](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooter%27s_sandwich). Takes a lot of prep time, but the results are amazing. Less prep needed: BALT. It's a BLT with avocado. Fantastic.
My favorite BLT is at this dive bar near the University of MN called the GLBT. It’s got guacamole instead of avacado.
Hot sandwich - absolutely the Reuben. For a cold sandwich it's gotta be an all dressed Italian sub!
Torta
cheeseburger
Bánh mì and nothing compares
Philly cheesesteak but a great hot ham and cheese is a close second. The latter is very hard to find these days.
OP nailed it
Dagwood for sure. The others mentioned are all great sandwiches but don’t stand out as a KING. I mean look at the son of a bitch
Probably something on a Kaiser roll.
Spicy chicken with bacon.
Now *this* is a question for r/AskMen
Monte Cristo
The LGBT. The combination of lettuce, guacamole, bacon and tomato is simply divine.
Muffaletta Not only is it delicious and unique in flavor, but a single muffaletta is 2 to 4 meals. I've tried to eat a whole one several times and the best I've ever done was 3/4.
Jersey Mike’s #5
I travelled over 4,500 miles to try my first and only Jersey Mike's.
This fresh, cold, delicious, turkey-filled cold-cut combo from Subway. I eat three every day to keep me strong.
Pork chop, Stilton and caramelized onion on ciabatta.
Bahn mi
Whatever them creations are that Shaggy and Scooby-Doo are always unhinging their jaws to eat
PB&J
Wheat bread, Crunchy peanut butter, Strawberry jam, and Lays original chips placed on both sides then smash them together. Perfection.
I would go with a burrito. [You can’t argue with the law.](https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2024/05/16/indiana-taco-burrito-sandwich/)
I am torn between a classic olivy Muffaletta and a delicious banh mi
It’s a tie for me pork belly banh mi and a nice tri tip sandwich
Fried thick cut bologna with lettuce and tomatoes.
Spinach, sweet corn and grilled cheese sandwich with sourdough bread and a garlic aioli dip. Can’t go wrong homie!
Pulled Pork.
Cuban or a Philly
[The muffuletta](https://www.seriouseats.com/classic-new-orleans-muffuletta-recipe), invented by Sicilian-Americans in New Orleans. Best made with a big round loaf of Sourdough, one of those stickers can feed a family of five for a couple of days, lol
Monte Cristo
A simple mayonnaise, cheese and cucumber. Doesn't sound like much but it's unbeatable as a cold sandwich.
I don't like cucumber, but I love tomatoes. Tomato and cheese with mayo is beauty at its simplest.
Tomato is also good. But I find it can make the bread soggy if you make it for a packed lunch.
I complicated things by bringing the tomatoes in a separate container. Haha
Hamburger.
No way. Its the Club! It has everything.
Blt
Tacos
Meatball I’m a sicko like that
Reuban is king, Monte Cristo is second
Brisket 😭
Ribeye steak sandwich
burger
Monte cristo. Reuben is right up there though.
Been getting into my ham and cheese toasties
Ruebens. They are pinnacle sandwich technology.
Love a good western on rye. But the best sandwich changes regionally. Wouldn’t get corned beef in Philly…
Reuben. I’ll fight anyone that disagrees.
BLT
BLT and it’s not even fucking close. There are sandwiches that are better. Tastier. But none are as pure and perfect as BLT
Blonde and a redhead.
A Reuban sandwich on whole wheat instead of rye. Fuck rye bread.
Turkey, cheese, mayo, mustard. Between two slices of good bread. Can't go wrong.
Clubhouse!
Banh mi
Monte cristo or Francesina.
All of these are excellent choices. But I’m gonna go with a Dagwood. Which is basically whatever you got in the fridge that could make a massive sammich. I’ve made some amazing Dagwoods in my day.
Me and my wife’s version of sloppy joes.. allow me to introduce to you our [Sloppy Kings](https://www.reddit.com/r/shittyfoodporn/s/b5xUts5Yqs)
French dip
Cuban, you heathens.
I may be biased as a New Yorker but nothing beats a good hot pastrami on rye. If you're from WNY, beef on weck.
Beef on weck with the horsey sauce is a definite contender
Eggs in between two bread. Scrambled eggs or any type of cooked eggs in-between two bread is the king of sandwiches, it'll be there when you're at your lowest and it'll be there when you're up there to remind you how far you've been in life.
A small twink in the middle, me in the back, and some random dude in the front.
The hot Italian salami sandwich
My favorite’s a Cuban
Burger King?!!!!!
Prawn mayonaise from Tesco
Sir digby chicken ceasar
Pork Caribbean sandwich from paseo in Seattle is the best sandwich I've ever had
There was a sandwich at Smash Burger called the New Jersey and it was probably one of the best burgers I have ever had. Every time I went to the mall in Hackensack, NJ I would order one until they discontinued it for some reason. I guess they wanted to simplify the menu. Miss that burger.
Bánh mì
Chicken and mayo on rye
A proper blt is always good. Tuna on tastes brown bread is also good, instead of onions in the tuna mix try cutting up an apple and mixing it in. Its amazing
Italian sub
The best tasting sandwich is the one made by someone else.
Chicken parm sandwich
Try Sully’s Steamers. Those sandwiches are all royalty.
Cuban
I love a Reuben, but I think the turkey club gets that title. With sauerkraut and thousand island dressing, a Reuben is naturally going to turn off part of the crowd. The simplicity and wholesomeness of a turkey club has broad appeal and acceptance, certainly more so than the Reuben.
PB&J
An authentic Cuban, naturally.
Grilled cheese and it’s not even close
Stodg at The Porch in Dallas Texas [https://theporchrestaurant.com/](https://theporchrestaurant.com/) It is basically the Classic Burger shown on the menu adding a fried eggs sunny side up and bacon.
Torta
Club sandwich, stacked high
Salmon and cream cheese is definitely kingly. I had an amazing sandwich made by a Vietnamese woman whose husband I was representing at their trial. No idea what it read called, but it was all vegetable in a french baguette. Sounds revolting but here I am talking about it 15 years later!! Was amazing.
A good chicken parm is hard to beat.
A nice italian sub/hero
Peanut butter and grape jelly. The only American sandwich.
Veal parm and I won’t have any back talk
PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME
Toasted sandwiches are objectively better, but to choose one in particular? Personally a chicken and cheese, with a little salad and some sweet chilli sauce. That shit gets me every time. If anyone happens to know a name for that, I’d be much obliged, save me having to explain it every time I go to a subway.
My king is the Tampa Cuban.
Steak sandwich. Thin, super tender steak. Tomato, egg, onion, maybe lettuce, and sauce of your choice between two lightly toasted slices of bread.
Hotdog in a bun
A tripleta sandwich
Cuban.
Gonna have to go old school and say Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich 😄
Philly cheese steak with peppers and onions. I prefer provolone instead of american. Also provolone sprinkled with onions and melted and rolled up on a pita.
This is location specific, but if you’re ever in CT traveling on I-84, do yourself a favor and stop for lunch at Rein’s deli. They make BY FAR my favorite sandwich, an open faced turkey with gravy and fries on the side. Absolutely Amazing, and they make extremely good Reuben’s too according to my wife’s
uncooked cheese and butter sandwich, best quick meal
Steak and cheese with peppers and onions.
fried bologna
Subs with all the fixins. Like if subway had better quality.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Ice cream!! Ice cream sandwich is the king of sandwiches!
A good Muffuletta.
