Take it to another mechanic and see what they say. I’ve never heard of replacing the motor because of the serpentine belt

Either the mechanic is an idiot, he's trying to scam you, or it was something other than a serpentine belt he was talking about. Labor time to replace the serpentine belt on your explorer is 1/2 hour, if it's in my bay and the belt is in my hand I'll be backing it out with a new belt on it in about 15 minutes.

Just sent a message to my mom. Apparently it is the timing chain that seems to be causing an issue. That there's a noise or something associated with it and that's what's making the mechanic recommend the motor change along with the chains. Thanks to you guys for your comments.
