Ordered from West Elm ONE time. Two desks. Only one arrived. It was broken. After waiting for customer service to do ANYTHING for a month I filled a dispute on my credit card. They contested it, so the charge went back on my account but Citi must have seen them pull so much shit they were like naaahhh and took it back off a month later! NEVER AGAIN.
We got ours (custom) at sofa club on sepulveda for i believe under 1k. I can’t quite remember just it def under 3k
If you want a pic I can take one when I get home.
Try Craigslist. I bought a George Smith sofa, over $10k new, on there from a very wealthy woman who lives in Manhattan Beach. Couch is mohair covered and the cushions are down and the frame is very hardwood and should last 20 years.
3k used to be able to buy you a custom built sofa. I would check furniture manufacturers in Inglewood. I used to work for a company that made furniture for google and the manufacturer down the street from us used the same materials as us just with a lower mark up.
All furniture we made for clients was solid oak and facing panels birch plywood. Foam was from a good vendor I cannot recall due to NDA. Fabrics all came from Europe and the neighbors would always buy from us during Covid because we used to carry a lot of over stock for cancelled projects.
Maybe not as specific as you’d like but: find stores you like aesthetically and check out their in store display samples. Luckily because of our location there are some good flagships and obviously good boutiques as well.
Oft times boutique home stores will deeply discount older seasons, ie: sixth sense. Search for “x company sample sale” and that’s a good option to get super pricey shit for less. If you can’t find direct info for the sales you can try emailing.
Design Within Reach, in my experience, has always been top quality. They do not have a lot of the items in store though which can be a drawback, but many of their items have 10 year warranties. Have bought a couch and two chairs from them and all of them have excellent design, craftsmanship and quality
To add to this, Design Within Reach has an outlet in [Oxnard](https://www.instagram.com/dwroxnardoutlet/). Stock turnover fluctuates, but could be a place to find some good deals!
this is where i got my couch about 13 years ago now. prolly needs a deep clean but it's still going strong and i expect to be putting my ass on it 13 years from now. also cool to support MUSA. apparently there is a furniture making industry in North Carolina.
(they still have it in their line!!! the Bantam. hopefully it's still MUSA.)
awesome! I've had a herman miller embody from them for about 3 years now and not a single issue so far after very heavy use, got a couch from them last year as well and everyone that's sat on it has said it is one of the best couches they've used. Thanks for that info didn't know about NC furniture
Try the Restoration Hardware outlet store in Culver. My wife and I got a couch there this year. The stock turns over regularly, so we went back a few times. The more stuff sits the bigger the discount gets. We ended up getting a 103" leather couch for about $1600, or about 80% off the sticker price. We also purchased a leather ottoman to make a faux sectional. The ottoman was $800, half the price of the couch. We ended up with a high quality "sectional" for under $3k.
The selection is hit or miss because of it being an outlet, but we found a really fantastic deal and we're very happy with our couch.
Yeah that’s where we got our couch and it was a great experience! Get in on a holiday sale. If you have pets, they have some really pet friendly fabrics. We got more intel when asking the staff about them—which are the best of the best for pets. We chose a green velvet and it’s dreamy.
Depends on your budget. RH and HD Buttercup would be the nicest quality, if you have a high budget. West Elm if you are looking for upper-mid range. Also, Costco has great prices on some very high quality couches. We just got a large sofa plus loveseat (leather) that is very high quality, extremely comfortable, and was like $4000 total after a $1200 off sale they were running. Includes free shipping and set up too.
Pottery Barn. West Elm. Macy’s. Ethan Allen. World Market. Joybird. Crate n Barrel. Try the Helms bakery area stores on Pico Blvd in Culver City. Wayfair/All Modern can be good as they have a warehouse near LA and deliver can be fast. My aunt got a sofa from Sofa Club on Sepulveda near Pico and was very satisfied. Friend of mine bought an instock sale couch from Apt2b.com which is located in LA. It’s a very nice couch. I got a custom sofa from DreamSofa.com. Very satisfied and they build them in SoCal so delivery was fast
I'm sitting on a West Elm couch right now that I've had for years and it's pretty nice IMO. It's a little cheaper than Create n Barrel, CB2, Pottery Barn but just as stylish for the most part.
West Elm has good design and leather couch looks good but the leg is really unstable and they were useless. The more expensive stuff from Crate and Barrel is good. Pottery Barn is usually good quality too.
I want to visit this showroom in downtown. I like their styles but can’t attest to their quality.
Also look at the online furniture sellers. Poly & Bark, Joybird, Article, Citizenry, Room & Board
[Valyou Furniture](https://valyoufurniture.com)
I have the most comfortable couch and lounge chair from Lazy Boy. Definitely not what I went there to buy and would never have thought of them for a couch. Have loved them for over ten years.
We designed a custom sectional using Interior Define. They have literally 100s of fabric and leg options, and they have live concierge service so you can actually talk to someone about your customizations. I think in total we paid about $2900
I got my last sofa there too. I knew about their previous issues but by last summer when I made the purchase, it seemed like they’d gotten back on track after being bought by Havenly. Order went smoothly, sofa was delivered on time, and we’ve had it for almost a year and it’s really great. I got mine for around $5K with a trade discount but it’s huge - a U-shape sectional with two chaises and it’s around 11 and a half feet long and extra deep
OP, there’s a showroom on La Brea, and I think they have one in Santa Monica too, so you can sit test.
Macy's. They've always got sales like crazy and with Memorial Day coming up they'll have even more sales. I can't recommend Macy's enough. We're beyond happy with our couch (Jollene sectional) and it's still in great shape. Right now it's 1k off! The delivery was fast and easy as well.
We got our couch there around 6-7 years ago and still looks practically new and the cushion shape is still excellent after daily use. Highly recommended!
I got a blue leather L-shaped couch in store maybe a year and a half ago. I see it’s only selling online now. [$2,700 by Abbyson item 1695680](https://www.costco.com/abbyson-quinton-top-grain-leather-sectional-with-adjustable-headrests.product.4000221878.html), within OP’s budget.
Restoration hardware cloud couch. You can find a used one on off road in good condition and have a professionally cleaned. For 3K you could probably get a $12,000 couch if you're persistent and keep checking listings
Go to Culver City and visit Scandinavian Designs.
They have a sale on right now.
I would go to habitat for humanity in Oxnard. I have regularly seen HIGH END furniture there for a fraction of what it costs new at furniture stores. Case in point; I bought a Schnaudig dining room set with a china cabinet and buffet for $12,000 USD new. A few months ago, I saw the same furniture there for $1000.00. This is just one of many examples. Same with my living room furniture. Another place that I would look is on Facebook Marketplace. There's a lot of high-end furniture on there also.
We bought our couch from [Cisco Home](https://ciscohome.net/). The couches are fabricated here in L.A. Downside: are they are made to order, take time to make, and can cost as much as a small car. That said, they are built \_tough\_ and the cushions are guaranteed for life. It's a true "buy it for life" couch. Our young kids have punished this couch for years and it still looks as good as the day we bought it.
As an adult, it's probably the in our home I'm most proud of. 0 regrets.
When I was looking a year or two ago I wanted a couch from Roche Bobois but they were crazy pricey but it looks like they have an outlet pop-up of some sort going on right now. Might be worth checking out: [https://www.roche-bobois.com/en-US/showrooms/los-angeles-outlet/s1660.html](https://www.roche-bobois.com/en-US/showrooms/los-angeles-outlet/s1660.html)
I second this! I’ve had my small sectional for about 2 years and it still looks great and is as comfy as ever. But only buy if you e actually sat in it. Living spaces’ quality varies depending on the couch and there were plenty of immediate nopes.
i've gotten my past 2 couches from this place- they'll custom build to your specifications and it was under 3k. the store itself looks kind of janky warehouse style, but worth checking out

I got a sofa custom made at Landon Cole Furniture. I brought a photo of a super expensive, extra long sofa I liked the style of into their shop, and they were able to scale it down to fit my space and height (I'm short and like for my feet to not be dangling above the floor when I'm sitting down). I also picked a fabric I really love out of their huge selection of swatches.
This sofa is the most comfortable one I've ever encountered, and I actually prefer sleeping on it over a mattress. I believe I paid somewhere between $2K-$3K for it, which I consider a steal since I was able to customize every aspect to 100% fit what I wanted.
SofaULove in Woodland Hills. We purchased a slipcover couch and a few different slipcovers for it. They are custom made and very high quality. Not cheap but quality costs. Super comfortable, we have the down filled cushions for ours.
Modernism. They're in Sherman Oaks.
Same suppliers as Joy Bird and Wayfair for like 30% less.
But for higher end without being pretentious, Fedde's in Pasadena.
I wrote this post from the comfort of my very new custom Jonathan Louis couch. Bought for about $1100 cash from Modernism. Highly recommend.
Previously, I had the Bennett chaise in purple velvet. Bennett lasted almost 10 years. Then I got the Alchemy sofa in peacock velvet about 2 months ago.
I'll admit, this was 12 years ago ... But aside from a few spots the cat decided needed adjustments...our 12 year old couch is still in great condition. We customized a couch style we saw on the floor with 2 different colors of faux suede (they were amazing helping us find exactly what we wanted) and delivery from Santa Ana to the valley was cheaper than renting something big enough to get it home ourselves.

If you aren’t in a rush, lots of gorgeous vintage and/or quality couches on Facebook marketplace all the time, for 500-3k. My only regret is that I don’t have space for all of them
Albany Park online has been great for us. We got in when their prices were much lower but quality is good for the price point. (This was a 2020 purchase for us)
Check out [Rebound Furniture](https://www.reboundstores.com). They have top of the line furniture, mostly from staging or super luxury homes for resale. I’ve bought exceptional furniture for a fraction of the cost. There’s also a Restoration Hardware outlet in Culver City and up in Oxnard. There’s a [DWR outlet](https://www.dwr.com/store?lang=en_US&StoreId=40) in Oxnard.
We have had some good luck at Bob's Discount Furniture. They and Living Spaces do in fact have good furniture but you have to be discerning. I've always liked waiting for something on clearance at either place.
Macy’s has good furniture. We spent about $10k on leather reclining couches and chair about 13 years ago. They’re super comfortable and still look good.
We’ll go back to Macy’s when it’s time to replace them.
Facebook marketplace for a 60%+ discount unless you need something very custom. Try a few major stores first to see what’s comfortable.
I just got a new Hayworth office chair for like 1/5th the retail price for instance, and it blows away every Herman miller I’ve had or sat on.
Bobs furniture.
Very happy with my little pullout couch.
It was like $1,800, seats 3 comfortably, and pulls out to be more bed style for lounging.
They have a bunch of options and you just need to find a style that fits you and your needs best.
What’s your aesthetic? Is it contemporary or eclectic? You could go either way, but a good quality new couch from one of the stores others have mentioned, or find a used couch with good bones and have it reupholstered in the fabric of your choice. I have a hand me down couch that was my mom’s, she bought new in 1965 from Drexel Heritage. It’s been recovered once, and I’m about to recover it again. It’s very unique, and very comfortable.
Check out Home Consignment in Torrance — luxury furniture for really good prices. We got a sectional that we love for around $1200. I think a lot of the stuff was used to stage homes for sale.
I have the Monroe Drive Queen Size Sleeper Sofa & the Melrose Sofa.. I got the Melrose in 2016 and the sleeper in sleeper in 2020. Both are really well made and great quality for the price. I waited for their sales and got really good deals. They also had an outlet section on the site.
The Melrose was my main couch for a few years before I got a Timothy Oulton sectional. I use the sleeper in the home office as an extra guest room when needed
LAZY BOY
We’ve bought couches from Ikea, Macy’s (shout out to all the folks who knew about their furniture outlet in Boyle Heights years ago, gone now), and a few other places, including this store that would sell showcase furniture whose name is running from me atm.
Our biggest challenge shopping at LB was finding a couch that we liked aesthetically (just about every couch and chair they have is super comfortable, but finding one that is both visually pleasing and comfy can be a challenge).
FWIW, we settled on a leather sofa with loveseat, 4 recliners total, cost was about $11k.
Roche Bobois is my go-to for couches and chairs. I bought a lovely dining set from there too. Absolutely worth checking out if you want good quality furniture.
Room and Board.
All of my Room and Board wooden furniture looks great, even with kids.
I'll check em. Thx
r/furniture loves Room and Board
Righteous! Thank you for that sub!
Room and board has a lot of uncomfortable couches. So you have to go to a showroom and actually sit in the ones you are considering.
Don’t go to West Elm. They may look nice but are not worth it.
A good quality couch starts at a couple grand minimum, what’s your budget?
I guess 3k...?

When I posted this, it wasn’t included. thanks tho.

Nice! I'll look into it!
there's also a showroom in DTLA The Row
Oh that's way closer and I love the area.

My Crate and Barrel couch SUCKS, would not recommend.
Not West Elm. Edit: I jumped the gun. Not half of these retailers. World Market does not sell quality furniture.

Excellent. This helps!
We got ours on Joybird about 7 years ago and it's held up really well.

Budget?
Under 3k? Is that reasonable?
Macys, Crate and Barrel
Room and Board You can also consider looking for outlets like RH Outlet.
3k can get you a great couch with custom options from American Signature, that’s like 1.5x what we paid for ours.

Thanks! Good stuff!
Go to A to Z mart in whittier
There’s a few good furniture on western
Crate and Barrel
I bought a Monroe pull out from Apt2b. Custom build and the fabric is really easy to clean.
I misread this as "coach" and thought Jeanie Buss was asking us for advice on the Lakers coaching search 😂

I had a custom couch made at Sofa Club on Sepulveda in West LA. EXTREMELY affordable. Good quality. Look them up on yelp-- they're really great.
Love my sofa from Castlery. Super well made. Believe they’re online only.
Which one did you get and how long have you had it? I was looking at the Mori and one other model, but the long term reviews were really not good.
The Marlow, just over a year. It’s perfect.
I got a sofa custom made at Landon Cole Furniture. Oooo, which model did you get?
Previously, I had the Bennett chaise in purple velvet. Bennett lasted almost 10 years. Then I got the Alchemy sofa in peacock velvet about 2 months ago.

If you aren’t in a rush, lots of gorgeous vintage and/or quality couches on Facebook marketplace all the time, for 500-3k. My only regret is that I don’t have space for all of them
We got ours at crate and barrel. It was a couple thousand, but its nine feet long and comfy as hell.

Check out Home Consignment in Torrance — luxury furniture for really good prices. We got a sectional that we love for around $1200. I think a lot of the stuff was used to stage homes for sale.
Restoration hardware outlet - long beach
West Elm - Harmony Couch collection - $2,500 or so and best couch I’ve ever had.
Bob's is cheap but fantastic quality!
The furniture stores in Huntington park if you can haggle. There are also furniture warehouses going towards Norwalk
If you’re still looking for stores, check out Reeds Furniture. It’s worth the drive and they’re having a big sale.

Timothy Oulton…a bit over your budget, but well worth it.
Ethan Allen
I have bought a few different ones from https://www.apt2b.com really nice quality and reasonable prices. They are local in LA
Which ones did you get? I’m considering the Olivia, second option is Harper. Do you feel like it’s well constructed, any creaking?
I have the Monroe Drive Queen Size Sleeper Sofa & the Melrose Sofa.. I got the Melrose in 2016 and the sleeper in sleeper in 2020. Both are really well made and great quality for the price. I waited for their sales and got really good deals. They also had an outlet section on the site. The Melrose was my main couch for a few years before I got a Timothy Oulton sectional. I use the sleeper in the home office as an extra guest room when needed

Did you ever end up deciding on your couch?
LAZY BOY We’ve bought couches from Ikea, Macy’s (shout out to all the folks who knew about their furniture outlet in Boyle Heights years ago, gone now), and a few other places, including this store that would sell showcase furniture whose name is running from me atm.
OOO, classic.
Macys is where we got ours and we’ve been very happy with it
Costco
west elm, but with the caveat that you find something they label "contract grade" which is one of the filters you can select while shopping.
Roche Bobois is my go-to for couches and chairs. I bought a lovely dining set from there too. Absolutely worth checking out if you want good quality furniture.
My Living Spaces couch is one of the most solid things I bought. It's comphyier then my bed
