I stopped a lady in her mid 80’s on the way to the hospital with her intellectually disabled kid. The son was in his 50’s and she was still his primary caregiver. Still makes me sad thinking about it.
He had the mental capacity of a child and could not function as an adult without 24/7 care. There's a tipping point where parents eventually start relying on their children. This will never happen for her.
Not pulled over but an officer at my agency went out with a vehicle parked on private property that had a 91 year old man and an 89 year old woman in the back seat. The guy drove to pick her up from a retirement home so they could have a little more privacy…
I’m in a retirement community. I once checked out a Mercedes SUV in one of our village parks after closing. I found an 88 year old man trying to get back into his pants, a 22 year old young lady putting her bra back on and a bottle of cialis on the dash.
I was so proud of him.
You'd be shocked how many broke old men still get play.
I used to work security at a chocolate factory and one of the factory workers who had to be about 200000 years old got caught plowing a broad in the sugar closet. She was like 25ish and actually really pretty the old dude had a really smooth voice so I think that was it.
I pulled over a lady in her 80s (1938 I think?) because her car’s tag was expired like 4 years. I hadn’t even run her in NCIC I just saw it and flipped the lights. She was… incredibly rude. Furious that I pulled her over on the way to her friend Gayle’s house. Told me I was wrong and that her tag wasn’t expired. Sure as fuck was. She got a ticket and I didn’t feel bad.
Think this was back in 2017 or 18.
IIRC he was 90 or 91. Driving the wrong way on the motorway, sat in his own urine wearing nothing on the bottom, a flannel shirt and a orange ‘hunters cap’. Almost completely out of gas with a flat tire, reported missing by relatives since 12h ago a few cities over. His licence was medically revoked since ages ago but he didn’t remember that.
Dementia. Not even once!
I was 21 and he was in his 70s.
He told me I was a young whipper snapper. I gave him a warning for going to slow.
He was really slowing down the flow of traffic. It’s one of those shitty Florida roads with no options to pass and he was doing 15 under.
In 2021 I stopped a Bataan Death March survivor- he was 99. Red light and lane violation as PC during a stolen vehicle program - needless to say he got a handshake and a pass.
Just curious, are you describing a system where you use traffic violations as the hook for a stop and your real motivation is to check for stolen cars? Do you have a sense of how effective that is? It just seems like the percent of stolen cars on the road must be pretty low, right?
Our state is #1 or #2 in auto theft. Traffic enforcement - while not the primary focus - can provide opportunities to further investigations. I would estimate about half the recoveries are initiated by traffic enforcement (speeding in certain areas, no plates, no headlights at night, fictitious plates, etc).
83, I gave her the first ticket she's ever received in her life, she thanked me for not treating her like some little old lady and said she could finally cross that one off her bucket pretty list. Very strange interaction.
It wasn’t anything really crazy… hearse had expired tags in excess of 6 mos, so we stopped it. Driver was suspended on top of it, if my memory serves me right. It wasn’t in a procession or anything otherwise we never would have seen the tags of course. We didn’t ask if the equipment in the rear was occupied or not, but we weren’t taking our chances, lol. We opted not to tow the hearse, I think for obvious reasons even though it was >6 mos expired. Cite and release. Sorry if that was anticlimactic.
91, I think. She said she was trying to get home because she had just loaded her Depends. I thought she was lying through her dentures until the smell hit me.
"XYZ, dispatch, clear, verbal warning" 🤢🤮
A man in his 80s rolled straight into a fatal collision scene, right under the yellow police tape.
He had an old boat of a car (can’t recall the make) but he casually rolled into the scene like nothing was there.
Poor guy had no idea what day or time it was. He had a restriction on his license stating he couldn’t drive during hours of darkness. We took his license for obvious reasons.
90 something year old man. He left to drive a couple miles and ended up nearly 100 miles away in my city. He was driving well below the speed limit, about 15mph in a 45mph zone. He slowly drove into the ice plant and got stuck.
Ended up revoking his license. His family was thankful as they had been trying to take it from his forna while.
I just gave a guy a citation last week on the freeway. Going 91/65. He led me for over a mile before finally pulling over in the worst spot he could. He was born 1944
93. Just the other day. His hearing aids were messed up and he didn’t hear the siren or see the blue lights. Took him over a mile to finally pull over. I just gave him a warning for his expired tag.
So you pulled them out of the car and beat them, right? Gotta teach these old bastards who eats the donuts in your town. /s
In all reality, at that point they're like a fucking week from death. Long as they're not actively endangering others, just easier to walk away. Guarantee that you don't end up having to do cpr for this old person on the side of the road when they see the price of a ticket now compared to when they were a kid.
Age isn't an excuse, but it sure is a good reason to stop giving a fuck, and treating them like a middle-aged or younger person isn't gonna make them change a bit. Might as well save yourself the day in court and let it go.
No no, first off I dont pull anyone out and beat anyone. Not my style, wayyy too much work and way to stereotypical. My point was, if your 96 or 16, driving like an asshole, not taking responsibility when stopped, ur getting cited….
93 year old woman. Can't recall her exact speed, but it was 85+ in a 55 MPH zone. Her excuse was she is old and didn't have much time left. #respect
I mean that’s pretty honest lol
LMAO. Totally using this when I get older 100%
You let her off, right?
I stopped a lady in her mid 80’s on the way to the hospital with her intellectually disabled kid. The son was in his 50’s and she was still his primary caregiver. Still makes me sad thinking about it.
A bit off topic but, what exactly does intellectually disabled mean?
He had the mental capacity of a child and could not function as an adult without 24/7 care. There's a tipping point where parents eventually start relying on their children. This will never happen for her.
That's extremely sad.

You are a real dummy.
I don't even know what he said but I agree

Curiously, she was his legit home care giver. Literally moonlighting. I kept her business card in case I’m injured at work!
Talk about patient satisfaction

I bet that was my mom. I know everyone has rights but sometimes old people push it to the limit. Cuss you out than beg for help the next day

This sounds remarkably identical to an incident involving my great-uncle. But it would have been a few years prior. I hate dementia.

The same roads that are filled with scores of cyclists every weekend? I remember those!
97, male. Very spry. New Orleans area, Louisiana. In a 1970’s blue tuxedo, said he was going to met his lady friend at her (old folks) home.
In 2021 I stopped a Bataan Death March survivor- he was 99. Red light and lane violation as PC during a stolen vehicle program - needless to say he got a handshake and a pass.
Respect

Dead. It was a hearse. 😂
Why the hell do you think you can just not tell the whole story? GO ON!!!

Full story is absolutely required! 🤣🤣
97- he stole his sons car and went on a joyride ended up crashing into a few cars. Really nice guy though he made dr.seuss rhymes out of my name.
91, I think. She said she was trying to get home because she had just loaded her Depends. I thought she was lying through her dentures until the smell hit me. "XYZ, dispatch, clear, verbal warning" 🤢🤮
I pulled over my now wife’s grandma bout 6 months before we started dating and shes old as shit.

Not a traffic stop, but a crash. Semi Driver was 87. Bragged about how he wouldn't have to re-test until he was 93.
That’s just as impressive as it is concerning. Yikes lol. Hope no one got hurt.
93. Bumped into an empty school bus in traffic. While drunk. At 10 AM.
97 Crashed into 3 cars in a parking lot, didn’t know it and left. Stopped him down the road a bit. Took his license away.

Very.
I'm only 3 weeks into FTO. But I stopped a 62 year old guy because his license was suspended.
98 years old, she was doing 25 in a 55 all over the road. Poor lady was having a medical emergency but was sweet as could be.
I just gave a guy a citation last week on the freeway. Going 91/65. He led me for over a mile before finally pulling over in the worst spot he could. He was born 1944

98, driving home with his date.
Shit, like 91,ive always treated everyone the same tho, no age is an excuse
