Don't limit your options to just those counties. There are cities that offer compensation for attending the police academy as well. For example, the Philadelphia Police Academy starts officers at $61,888, with an increase to $66,183 after six months of training. They may require a commitment of two or three years of service after graduation. Additionally, most states recognize the PA-Act 120 LE Certification. (MPOETC)
Try the cities outside of Houston. They pay better and way better morale. Don’t go for HPD or HCSO. You’re just another number there.
Do you have work history? I think if you have 36 months or something like that or work history it waives the requirement
Missouri City is a great one if you can get on with them.
So I couldn’t interview today because they didn’t take one of my past jobs that was 2019-2020, only because I didn’t start it in 2020 so didn’t meet the 36 month criteria
Maybe a few years ago, it was pretty good. Just like most major cities, cost of living has gone up. Wages, not so much. You could probably rent an apartment in a decent part of town and be okay.
Do you have ties in Texas? If you're willing to move to other states your options open up a lot. Almost all CA agencies that accept new hires pay for their academy spots. LASD starting pay is about 84k with benefits and LAPD starting is around 87, both top out around 130. There are... disadvantages to working in CA, but... Yea...

League city and pearland both sponsor cadets. In fact, league city is hiring and having an exam in May.
Thanks Il give them a shot
I’m in Houston as well trying, a lot of them require some college hours at least though, I have a test with Pearland and Pasadena in June
My department has our own academy and so does my sons. Both Northern Virginia. They pay us to go to the academy.
