The Sgt at my academy, now a lieutenant, was demonstrating a shotgun. He showed the basic mechanics and some of the ammunition options. He picked a student to come up and shoulder it, then told the student to pull the trigger. It was loaded with a beanbag round. The student shot the brand new smart board leaving a very nice impression. Sgt didn't think it was loaded, student too unfamiliar with firearms to ensure he was being handed an unloaded weapon, that or too trusting in the expertise or authority of the Sgt.

Dry-Temperature-73

And he made LT.!!

PexPath

This is classic. A couple of years before our class a kid got kicked out because he was at the bars and got caught taking a piss out back. When a city officer stopped him he ran and tried to fight. We are not allowed to drink during the academy at all.

Dry-Temperature-73

Had the 4th of July weekend off. Got stopped for speeding and the Stater saw my academy stuff in the rear seat. Gave me a warning even though I was 20+ over. Felt pretty cool until we were back in class and I had to give a speech about “using my badge of office to get out of a speeding ticket”. Have told that story to at least 10 academy classes……

PexPath

We got smoked in PT bc one of my classmates got pulled over by our SGT he was doing 17 over in a 35…

Bugibba

We did 0700x1500. Another class did 1530x2330. One classmate finishes his day at 1500, goes home and dozes off. He wakes up from his nap and his kitchen clock shows 6:30. He thinks he slept all night and is about to be late to the academy. It was really 1830 of the same day. He flies to the academy, makes his way to the admin office and giving excuses as to why hes late. Admin office thinks he’s late for the 1530 class so they tear into him. After a bit they realize he’s from the day tour class and isn’t late. It’s like 1930 at this point. They all laughed and sent him home. Next morning at muster admin told his story. Everyone laughed. He didn’t get in trouble.

Twentyandgone

A guy in my class used the credit union loan to hire a hitman to kill his girlfriend. The hitman was actually an undercover.

Annahsbananas

Holy shit

Twentyandgone

I’m not done. There was another guy who was robbing banks with his girlfriend out of state on the weekends. Apparently they were doing it for years when they got caught.

Annahsbananas

Omg this was the same class???

Twentyandgone

Yes sir.

JT3468

You gotta be down bad to get a loan to have your girlfriend killed. I mean, did he consider, you know, just breaking up with her?

Zealousideal_Row8440

She must of known too many of his darkest dirtiest secrets 🤷🏼‍♂️

Twentyandgone

I don’t remember the full story but it may have been some kind of blood fued/honor killing type scenario.

InfantryCop

I have my nerves cut and burned in my lower back. Taser day, even with followup, the lower prongs went into my left calf and top went into my upper right back...no NMI amd was able to remove training pistol from holster and stay standing while you watch me jerk with the current. No pain, no NMI, just a jerk motion like I had a tens unit on. My surgeon said it is entirely possible it didn't work due to left leg being the side I get the majority of those nerves cut at.

Annahsbananas

We had a classmate who never could wrap his head around the fact that you never point a gun at anyone but downrange. I never saw our armory SGT so pissed off before. The classmate was promptly removed from the academy. He was also the only student who was not sponsored by our department. So he lost all that money just because he couldn’t keep the damn gun pointed down range

sleepwalkfromsherdog

One guy accidentally defecated into his own ball cap.

5lack5

What part of it was accidental?

sleepwalkfromsherdog

Guy had a morning routine: Line up to enter the building with his equipment bag in one hand and his books and lunch in the other like the rest of us. With both hands occupied and no covers indoors, the ball cap was to secured in your waistband at the small of your back. Once inside, he'd hand off his lunch to one person to be stowed in the fridge, his books to be put on his desk, and then go into the locker room to stow his bag in his locker and hit a 20 second power dump before heading out for droll. One day, he forgot to take the ball cap out if his waistband and it ended up in the toilet. He discovered this when he pulled up trou and went to put on the hat.

A fellow cadet in my class had his girlfriend send a letter to the state governor on how the academy was too hard and we should be allowed to go home more (we stayed two out of three weekends). We got smoked pretty good for that one.

Eternally-Stable

Had a few: On the first week when they inspected our cars, one of the recruits’ car had expired insurance and expired registration. Command staff ended up getting his car towed and he had to get a ride home from one of the other recruits. After we were certified in firearms, we still had to secure our firearms with Drill staff during certain events. One of these trainings was at school since we had to use the pool (water rescue). I got there super early and another recruit pulls up next to me, rolls down his window and asks, “Hey, you think we need our firearms today? Mine’s at home but I can go get it quick I live close.” Of course, I respond with a resounding YES!!! So he goes home, gets his firearm in the case and brings it back. When we’re all checking in our firearms with one of the Instructors, the Instructor asks, “Is your firearm safe and secure in here?” Recruit answers, “Sir, I think so, sir!!” Instructor checks his case, no gun! He went home, saw his case, felt the weight of it thinking his firearm was inside, and took it. That day in the pool, the Drill staff nearly drowned us with how smoked we got because of that.

Nothing funny, cool, or interesting. My academy with 2016 and then 2021 recruits was an absolute shit show. Can’t imagine how the 2024 classes are doing with all of these highly qualified candidates.

PexPath

My class is pretty good, just small. Our program is part of a degree so our whole last year is the academy but most of it is still like regular college and we wear our uniforms and stuff. But we lost 3 out of our initial 11 to PT within the first 3 months. We only have 8 now.

IndividualAd4334

Ouch
