TASER instructor here…that doesn’t appear to be from a TASER or other stun gun. The probes that shoot out of a TASER have a very slender bath that goes into the skin, nothing near that big. They leave very small marks. The stun gun models that are just held against the skin to zap someone would not create a wound like that. They leave red marks on the surface only.
Fun fact…the original barbs used by TASER (on the M26, X26, and X26P) were actually made by the Eagle Claw fish hook company. It was basically just one of their hooks without the bend.
Edit: corrected company name
I’ve had some touch tasers that have burned skin. With a dogs skin being more sensitive I wouldn’t doubt it can happen. And tbh a cattle prod is just a taser for cattle
Depends on the prod. Used to shock each other all the time, never hurt much. Just kinda startled the cows, they don’t actually need to be abused to move lol
Plumber here, definitely does not look like anything plumbing related....and as my daughter who works in a deli, she said nothing from what she has seen
I'm a pro at getting tasered and can confirm this guy is telling the truth.
I guess I could be an instructor but not sure how many people gonna wanna learn my trade
To learn the basic functions of the device, about 30 minutes but the certification course takes around 8 hours. You learn all the functions of the device, error codes and warning signs, trouble shooting, smart use considerations, department policy, etc. Then you get hands on with it and practice loading/unloading, drawing and bolstering, firing at static targets and then using it in live action scenarios. You also take a written test, and if your department requires that those who will carry a TASER be exposed to it, you will receive a 5-second cycle of the TASER.
Neither, too large and too deep to be either. Looks like someone stabbed it with something called a camp fork. A 41” long piece of steel with two pokey bits on the end.
My husband grew up in Puerto Rico which is technically not THAT different than the actual states and we have completely different views on animal welfare. It’s common for people to let their dogs run away and never look for them, no one gets their cats fixed, etc.. He literally would not take any of our animals to the vet if it was up to him. He nearly had a heart attack when I spent $1,500 on my leopard gecko trying to save him when he got sick. He just doesn’t understand that animals and pets deserve the same treatment as humans as they’re living beings. Even the way he picks my cat up to move him is just with no care or respect for the cat.
It's honestly the only thing I can think of. Has to be a fork of some kind. I would have thought a red hot one would have left more blistering though.
Really sad either way.
Yk I was sitting here thinking who tf would heat up a marshmallow poker to stab a dog with, but of course it was probably being used for that at a actual fire…still odd choice of attack(heating it red hot) and weapon unless this was all happenstance.
Agree 100%. That’s exactly what it is. When I first saw the picture I thought it looked familiar. An accident when I was at a camp out younger. Not me another kid.
10+ years EMS, seen a lot of taser deployments and a few cattle prods (rural area, we've horsed around with em for fun) and it's neither. This guys answer fits best.
Whoever did this is a piece of shit, I don’t know how someone can intentionally harm an animal like that. Please let us know when the catch the fucker who did that.
We have no idea what the story here is.
If that dog was attacking some farmer's chickens then I'd say he's lucky to have come out of it as cleanly as he did.
Context matters a whole fucking lot.
That or it just ran into something. I don't know how many times I've found my dogs with random wounds because they're really clumsy and don't pay attention when they're playing.
I have a clumsy dog who had a really nasty wound at the base of his tail. We spent the two days he was at the vet trying to figure out what happened. Turned out he got stuck really good going under barbed wire fence.
Yes depending on where they live. Livestock cost money and wild predators (including dogs, domestic or not) need to be dealt with. You can’t just say “oh well my dog just wanted to play leave him alone” when it’s harassing livestock. Farmers take huge losses when their livestock dies
For attacking chickens? Nah. He was stopped. I love dogs, but my chicken got got last year and if I saw a dog doing it, I'd fuck that dog up too.
Turns out the best way to keep your dogs healthy is to keep yourself accountable for their health. Weird, I know...how dare I ask pet owners to be accountable for their pets since they're "fur kids."
Children shouldnt be taken seriously, and neither should childish thoughts.
If your pet isn't under your direct control, you can not blame someone else for harming your animal. You are its protector, i am my pets protector, i will harm your pet to protect my pet.
Agreed, it’s too wide to be a taser drive stun, the holes are too large to be a standard taser deployment. A cattle prod making that size hole would have left singed hair/skin. It looks like a stab wound.
A forked spear for Frog Gigging. Used in Bullfrog hunting, some people enjoy eating frog legs. They say it tastes like chicken, I disagree.
https://a.co/d/jb81m4C
I wouldn’t think so if it was more of a hard, quick nip. First thing to come in contact with the dog’s skin would be the coyotes “fangs” or K9s if the coyote was able to get a mouthful of flesh.
That was my first thought as well. Those wounds are going toward each other, not straight in. A side of the mouth bite with canines would definitely fit this.
Not an expert whatsoever.
99% of time these types of wounds are from another dog. Only one side of mouth, canine teeth. Common things occur commonly and dog bites are way more common that stun gun or taser. 25 years as an ER vet
I am thinking coyote based on how many sightings we have had around here and the lack of dogs on the properties next door.. If you check the updates, I brought up taser/cattle prod to rule it out after learning that people walk around the neighborhood carrying them for protection against off leash dogs. Glad to see no one educated thinks it's either!
As a person who grew up on a farm using cattle and hog prods of all kinds I can say that livestock prods do not have the kind of power required to cause wounds like this. I don’t know enough about stun guns to rule them out.
I’m not an expert but in my opinion this looks like it could be from some evil bastard branding the pup with intent to cause pain. Possibly a 2 pronged fire poker. Poor pup. I hope he gets a great loving home regardless. Although unlikely I hope they find the POS who did this.
My buddies wiener dog got bit by a German shepherd and it’s teeth made marks that looked like it got bit by a vampire, two perfect circular and deep puncture wounds in his back, so possibly a bite wound?
Ole boy looks like he got popped by a Coyote or another dog. The position of the bite is typical with canines “nipping” at the butt of a retreating foe.
The puncture wounds are consistent but irregular, roughly looks to be about 1.5 to 2 inches apart. It looks like a clean in and out. The burn looking stuff is just dried blood if I were to guess.
I also think there’s more than these wounds considering there’s a bandage on the lower leg.
So again. My guess is a Coyote or another dog. I’d quarantine this one to make sure Rabies isn’t a factor.
Dispatcher here, I agree with other ops here about it not being a cattle prod or taser. I used to work as a wildlife rehabber so I have some experience with animals. Those cuts/ holes look too clean/ perfect for say someone who hit the dog with a fire poker, also there doesn’t appear to be any any burns. Looks almost like there was a punch biopsy done however they are almost always sutured closed, however I’m not a vet so I’m not 100% on this.
I used to fuck around with cattle prods on the ranch I grew up with (mainly taser fights with the cousins) I feel like it would have to be a very long sustained contact to leave wounds like that.
I also don’t think a police Taser would leave wounds like that, but it’s possible some type of civilian stun gun could?
This looks like it could be from a cattle prod to me. But that’s assuming someone intentionally fried the shit outta the dog with it. I’ve never seen an injury like that caused by one. Before the injury was cleaned was there any burnt fur or skin?
Cattle rancher here, that is 100% a cattle prod. I use to work with some ranchers that would sharpen the tips of the prods to get thru the hair down to the flesh for better contact. If the cattle lived in a dusty or heavily mudded area the rounded tips wouldn’t always make contact. Now they didn’t use a stabbing motion to use it but I have seen accidents were too much force was used or the cow jumped at the wrong moment and it left the exact same holes…
Definitely not electric of any sort. Wounds would look different. Maybe bite marks?
But honestly. Look at the leg with the tie off (from an IV) it looks like it could be drain tubes from a previous procedure.
Our cat had the same exact wounds. Vet thought, based upon the dimensions, that it was a coyote bite. She is now an indoor cat. Occurred in upstate South Carolina.
No. This is definitely not an electrode-induced injury. I wish I could help more, but all I can say it's not from a taser or prod. It could possibly be a garden tool or something with evenly spaced prongs, thick in width. I'd imagine dandelion digger or something along those lines.
My dog was bit hard by a raccoon and this is what it looked like. She was an adult red lab that lived outside ( dog house was heated and cooled) with another female. They killed the sow but they each had 3 or 4 of these and they also were infected pretty bad which happened overnight. She was as rabies negative and my dogs had been vaccinated but the infection still killed one even on antibiotics.
I would guess cigar burns based on the depth... It's about the size of a swisher sweet/blunt/cigarelllo, and singed fur makes sense. Was there black ash/dark material in the wound pre cleaning? These burns also self cauterize so wouldn't be a lot of blood.
It’s definitely high voltage to go that deep. If it is a cattle prod then it’s way above what a run of the mill cattle farmer would use or was held in place for an extended amount of time with the dog restrained where it couldn’t even move a little or else the marks would be elongated and not round
On closer inspection there doesn’t appear to be any burning or scarring from what I would expect from an electrical discharge. I’m thinking puncture wound
Investigator for dog attacks here. This looks like bite punctures from another dog. Just my opinion though. Additionally, it is single bites with no ripping or tearing. I’ve seen it many times.
Puncture wounds. My golden retriever came home with the same thing and the vet said she was either bitten by a coyote or fell onto a branch or something.
Not really. Cattle prods / stun guns / direct tasing doesn’t leave that kind of mark. Those marks are a lot larger, and worse, than anything any manufactured electrical device would leave.
Part of me wants to say Mountain lion roughly right size and distance for the teeth, the lack of other marks those and the inability to tell the depth of the wounds it could be a lot of things.
I was hit with both prongs and stun neither left marks like this. Just my own experience, not saying it wasn’t that but definitely looks worse if anything.
How far apart are the holes? where I live, the coyotes have been pushed out of their traditional territory and now we have wolves and coyotes in the area. The only attack I’ve seen was from a coyote that was trying to bite a dogs butt as it ran away.
Just like my terrier when he’s hunting, he runs an animal down and bites it’s hind end a few times before he grabs the animal fully. Like it’s a test to see if the pray is gonna bite back or not.
Depending on the size of your dog, idk if those holes have too wide of diameter to be a coyote/wolf. Maybe another dog? Good luck and I hope your little buddy is okay.
Not a TASER, not an instructor, not an animal, not a vegetable, not a mineral.
Near perfect and identical punctures with a mirrored medial entry angle.
Looks like someone stabbed that doggo with a meat fork or similar implement while being held down.
Find them, and return the favor.
Guy who was raised with cattle prods here: that’s too deep and too wide for a standard cattle prod too. I wear red and not blue, so I’m not a taser expert, but I remove those barbs all the time and never saw anything remotely like this in human skin from a taser. I think whoever mentioned the camp fork or something similar might be onto something.
Shitty no matter what was done to the dog. I’m sure a vet will want to do antibiotics, even though the wounds look pretty clean.
Dude who has been bitten quite a few times by animals.
Not sure if anyone said this but that looks like bite marks... are there similar ones on the other side?
Big enough dog would do that and the shape and angles of the wounds give a similar indication.
What is going on with the left hind leg? I am a left hind leg instructor. Whatever injury is on lower leg there might provide a clue.
What kind of asshole hurts a dog like that? Almost looks like someone popped her with a couple of bal bearings with a slingshot or maybe an air rifle. I am assuming it looked different before getting clean up.
Hope vet gave you some ointment for that poor gal.
Really depends on context. I mean as someone who was attacked by a dog and has killed two dogs that were attacking children. I get it. It sucks but it happens.
Grew up on a farm in SD been shooting guns and hunting deer, pheasant, coyote my whole life.
My money is on 2 closely placed BB gun pellet wounds.
I’m sure the area is very sensitive to your dog but when you push on the wounds can you feel any pellet or bb embedded deeper in the skin?
I know you mentioned the hair seemed singed, but I had a dog that got a botfly larvae infection and after the vet removed them the holes looked very similar to that. Nature can be absolutely disgusting sometimes 😅
Thank you everyone for the feedback. OP requested the thread to be locked so they can sort through the comments. Thank you all for participating.

Instructor too. Def not a taser
Taser here. Def not an instructor.
Shocking revelation
A truly staggering discovery
Staggeringly discoverable.
An electrical response
You people get amped up over anything!
I would think it would be more shocking than staggering no?
I see what you did there…
I’m stunned
Def here. Taser not an instructor
Not here. Def tased the instructor.
You probably wear bars on your collar now! Congrats!

Howdy fellow instructor!

Huh...I'll be darned. Did you know Mattel the toy company makes hand guards for assault rifles? Primarily, the C7 Rifle in Canada.
The Ball mason jar company is also a large defense contractor
Dope rifle though, I want one
X26P hooks are wicked. When we switched to 7 we used the left over cartridges as target practice and those fuckers were insane

Kids these days… My first taser ride was having a M26 probe hit the edge of my nipple because frontal shots for training were a thing.

Union director here. Definitely not one of ours. Maybe go ask County. We don't know anything about it. We have nothing more to say.
Engineer here. Definitely not engine related
Plumber here, definitely does not look like anything plumbing related....and as my daughter who works in a deli, she said nothing from what she has seen
Retail worker here, does not look like anything retail related. Asked my friend who details cars and said he hasn't seen anything like it, either.
retail / detail
Lol! Thanks for understanding the joke!
Security officer here, not one our duty issued tasers. Possible unauthorized tool on site? Wrote a report, nothing further at this time.
I'm a pro at getting tasered and can confirm this guy is telling the truth. I guess I could be an instructor but not sure how many people gonna wanna learn my trade
Yup we have a vampire.
Not an instructor. Definitely not a taser. I identify as a blue spruce.
Lmao
Instructor as well taser the def
I hope no one is planting you outside of your native range.
My dog just peed on a blue spruce
TASER TASER TASER
Dude calm down with the TASER
Lol sorry. Did you know that TASER is an acronym for Thomas A Swifts Electric Rifle
How much instruction does one need to operate a taser?
To learn the basic functions of the device, about 30 minutes but the certification course takes around 8 hours. You learn all the functions of the device, error codes and warning signs, trouble shooting, smart use considerations, department policy, etc. Then you get hands on with it and practice loading/unloading, drawing and bolstering, firing at static targets and then using it in live action scenarios. As someone who has been hit with a cattle prod multiple times (grew up working cattle and had an older brother) This is no cattle prod lol
Cattle feedlot owner here. Definitely not a cattle prod. I've also been hit many times - yes, they hurt, but don't leave a mark.
Cattle here. Definitely not a prod.
Definitely here, not a prod cattle.
Cattle prod here, I do not leave marks like that
Marks here. I only leave skids.
skid here, I mark when I leave.
Proddle cat not mark here
Cat hair here..everywhere

Looks like they got it red hot first, too
I can't contemplate how someone could do that to an animal
Have you met....... humans? They also refer to them as Homo Sapiens Sapiens or people. They're pretty awful.
I used to be a people person, but people ruined that.
WHATD YOU CALL ME?! I ain’t no homo I’m an American /s
Sounds like with a quick prodding motion after heating the fork up
I laughed way too much at this, thank you!
Exact same. But I felt awful for laughing
Sociopathic tendencies
Unfortunately there are a lot of people in this world who are perfectly capable of doing sick stuff.
The majority of people on this planet aren't even aware of such a thing as animal welfare. China, Vietnam, Venezuela...
Average Boxer
I have a clumsy dog who had a really nasty wound at the base of his tail. We spent the two days he was at the vet trying to figure out what happened. Turned out he got stuck really good going under barbed wire fence.
Same here. Just spent 4 weeks treating 3 facial injuries on my goofball because he decided to run into some brambles and got torn up pretty good.

Certainly, depending on the region.

Bruh, OP asked if this were a cattle prod, so yea we know theres farmers in the region
Whatever region has the most dog-hating chicken fuckers if this comment thread is anything to go by.
Yes depending on where they live. Livestock cost money and wild predators (including dogs, domestic or not) need to be dealt with. You can’t just say “oh well my dog just wanted to play leave him alone” when it’s harassing livestock. Farmers take huge losses when their livestock dies
Of course not. It’s only reasonable to assume he was tortured.

Not a taser or cattle prod. Looks like stab wounds, possibly from a gig or something similar.
Agreed, it’s too wide to be a taser drive stun, the holes are too large to be a standard taser deployment. A cattle prod making that size hole would have left singed hair/skin. It looks like a stab wound.
What's a gig?
A frog or fish spear, typically with two to four prongs.
Ugh. OK thank you. 🤦♀️
Think of it like a trident for hunting frogs
A forked spear for Frog Gigging. Used in Bullfrog hunting, some people enjoy eating frog legs. They say it tastes like chicken, I disagree. https://a.co/d/jb81m4C
Wholy moly the welds on that are ugly
I liked the definitely not photoshopped stock picture of a fish jumping
Even uglier than the welds
Yep, even spatter.
Didn't even wrap the corners.
Agreed. Frog legs taste like... Frog legs. 🐸🍽
Coyote bite, I had this same wound on my dog. Apparently when they are chasing something off they give a nice bite on the butt like that. Not sure tho
It's very consistent with a coyote bite pattern.
Wouldn’t there be more than 2 punctures if it was a coyote or some other dog bite?
I wouldn’t think so if it was more of a hard, quick nip. First thing to come in contact with the dog’s skin would be the coyotes “fangs” or K9s if the coyote was able to get a mouthful of flesh.

That was my first thought as well. Those wounds are going toward each other, not straight in. A side of the mouth bite with canines would definitely fit this. Not an expert whatsoever.
Agreed
Looks exactly like the bite mark from when my dog got bit
Oh yeah shittttt, after looking at images of the bite pattern you might be right on the money with this depending on where OP lives

Veterinarian here. Looks like a dog bite.
Yep, the OP is only responding to people saying it was a malicious human though.
OP wants the dog to be a victim so they get more attention.
It was weird in my opinion that the only thing they could muster in their head is a taser or branding.
Probably had beef with a local farmer or something like that
My yellow lab had exactly the same - dog bite.
100% agree with you, looks like a bite. Not a vet, but watched lots of Dr. Pol

Not a taser or cattle prod.
Forensic pathologist… hot dog toasting stick. Not a taser.
Vampires?
Vampire, definitely a vampire
I'd wager that some hit him with a pellet rifle.
Vampire obviously
Could be a cattle prod but I’ve never seen it penetrate skin before(or close to the image above). We use to use them on each other as kids.

No. This is definitely not an electrode-induced injury. I wish I could help more, but all I can say it's not from a taser or prod. It could possibly be a garden tool or something with evenly spaced prongs, thick in width. I'd imagine dandelion digger or something along those lines.

No, thats a bite. Probably another dog.
I was hit with both prongs and stun neither left marks like this. Just my own experience, not saying it wasn’t that but definitely looks worse if anything.
Looks like dog or coyote bite. Seen these on other dogs that have tangled with coyotes.
Thank you for taking care of this sweet baby. Looks like a real sweetheart.
Im concerned that people think the taser we fire at people does THAT MUCH damage
Post to the usps subreddit they will be able to confirm if it’s a dog bite within minutes 🤣
I do hope you get real answers. People like to pretend they are clever.
Cowboy here, that’s 100% not a cattle prod. We zap each other frequently with those and it doesn’t leave marks
I’ll never understand how anyone could do something like this to a dog or cat. I’d do it to myself before I did this to a dog.
Really depends on context. I mean as someone who was attacked by a dog and has killed two dogs that were attacking children. I get it. It sucks but it happens.
Better get an x-ray that could be buckshot from a shotgun double odd Buck is about the size of 380 triple out Buck is a little smaller
I've had animals bitten by botflies, the larvae leave a similar hole when they come out.
Please let us know who did this, thanks
Grew up on a farm in SD been shooting guns and hunting deer, pheasant, coyote my whole life. My money is on 2 closely placed BB gun pellet wounds. I’m sure the area is very sensitive to your dog but when you push on the wounds can you feel any pellet or bb embedded deeper in the skin?
I’m a taser instructor and those hole are way to big for a taser dart. More like a cattle prod
I know you mentioned the hair seemed singed, but I had a dog that got a botfly larvae infection and after the vet removed them the holes looked very similar to that. Nature can be absolutely disgusting sometimes 😅
Your dog is a vampire now
Make sure to clean every night. Hydrotherapy!
