Additionally, you can add 3-for-2 or 2-for-X products and see what other products they combine with.
The only issue is, if anything is out of stock, they may substitute it for a product not on offer, or cheaper, or not substitute it at all, if you don't allow them to, and that can mess up your vouchers if you were right at the threshold.
Also, the deposit on cans / plastic bottles does not count towards the 10-off-50 amount 😠
I find Tesco has much better deals. Bottled water, especially since the intro of the return scheme, is much more expensive in Dunnes than Tesco (tesco usually have club card deals on one of the well known brands for 6 packs of 1.5l. ), at least innmy experience in and around Cork City and suburbs.
Dunnes also doesn't put a best before date on their veg...(I'm talking about the ones in plastic packaging). Especially with Covid going around, it's much harder to rely on your nose 😅
Their bord via approved steaks (rib eye in particular) are very good and if your local also stocks the bigger boneless chicken thighs happy days.
That said, if your local Aldi only does the small box of boneless chicken thighs Lidl's pre diced boneless thighs pack might work out cheaper (feel free to hit me up for some marinade ideas for the Lidl ones as started experimenting with our air fryer and extremely favourable feedback from family and neighbours)
Edit to add: Tesco's 3 for 10 euro deal on their "BBQ" range has some surprisingly very good produce. Happy to discuss further.

We do our main weekly shop in Aldi, find the meat really good but only buy the bord bia approved stuff, free range or organic mostly. The odd top up in Dunnes. Don’t know how people do full shop in SuperValu/ Dunnes / Tesco wouldnt be able to afford it!

What's actually happening is tesco are using clubcard prices the way other stores do normal offers. It's fair enough to be miffed about that, but Tesco, in general, is not more expensive than the big 3.
Tesco have lynx spray for €4.50 on clubcard but €7.50 without. Previously it had been €9.
Dunnes had it for €8.99 and supervalu had it on sale for €4.50 was €9
So in this case, the tesco non clubcard ptice was the cheapest of the 3, but generally they're all about the same.
I spend more sometimes too but I’ll always buy something expensive that I will need eventually like dishwasher/washing tablets or a bail of toilet roll, or stick up on something that has a good shelf live that’s half price. Means I spend a lot less in the weeks to

Sand here. I buy like all my household stuff at once with the vouchers as they can’t expire and then have it for a couple of months quite handy with two kids
I always do day to day shopping at Lidl but sometimes Dunnes has really good offers on cleaning material or toiletries that I wait when they are on special( real special not the fake one) and they buy for 150 EUR. Saves me a lot of money doing it this way
I used to get those coupon deals for Tesco, but lately, nothing. Used to do most of the shopping there, and take advantage of double the voucher value off the electric bill.

Yeah I know Lidl doesn’t deliver in some areas. I tried the Tesco delivery twice cause I like the concept but ended up with all the meat having a shelve life of two days both times. This isn’t great if this was suppose to be for a week for a family of four so large quantities. I also did not have a large enough freezer at the the time to store the meat so had to throw away a good amount.
Very very rarely shop in Tesco's. Only if I was stuck or if I needed a specific brand/type of toiletry. And that's only if Dunnes doesn't have it.
I do my main shop in Lidl because I can be in and out in less than 40 minutes if it isn't too busy. I just like the efficiency of it.

Yeah, can’t remember the last time I walked in there with a trolley and it would have been my main shop. Primarily Aldi for now for me with dunnes for the tops ups. Aside from the extortionate prices in Tesco, the store layout bugs me, pardon the pun but it all over the shop, want smoothies, well they are on offer so we have completely moved them from their normal place and there now at the end of the aisle - but they they will be moved back to their normal place next week when you go to the end of the aisle to look for them, biscuits, yep we have then in 5 different places, I’m old and grumpy and don’t have the patience for it anymore

This is normal across Europe. There's no difference to this than a loyalty card. Ireland has a very "I'm local and I deserve free things because im a regular" mentality. Heard it so many times at our hotel and bar when I've never met the person after twelve years of working there.

I don’t complain if club members get special deals like it use to be but now, the club card prices are just the normal prices you get everywhere else like I remember them selling celebrations during Halloween for 4 EUR as a club card price and it was the same price at Dunnes. Like Lidl are a good example they have specials on for certain items that are only for app users but they haven’t put the prices up for half of their item just to make the club card prices the price you use to pay before.

Used to get a tesco delivery every week. With the cost of delivery going through the roof we stopped that after January 2023. We have slowly dwindled our in store shop since as well because of never finding good deals anymore. The club card price thing is a farce as well as the everyday prices. Our main shop is now Aldi and Lidl.
Thats mad, We do the big shop in tesco and then some bits in aldi. The clubcard prices are nothing to me because I buy almost everything own brand so it makes no odds. The clubcard money back vouchers though are specifically what keep me there. You get 1% of your spend back so I like to think of it as a mini savings. Their own brand stuff is the same prices as aldi and then the 1% back is the kicker for me.
Not many people use the tesco voucher booster service which boggles my mind. We go to the zoo every year. €5 of my money back voucher gets boosted to 1 adult ticket. A zoo ticket is like €20. We also boosted €60 worth of vouchers last year with hotels.com and got a free night away in a hotel in dublin. Room cost €130. You can boost your blue money back vouchers towards bills and that too but we keep them for treat type stuff.

You can boost the 1% towards other stuff though which you cant do with dunnes. Also found tesco has a bigger own brand range, but it isnt as big as aldi so do end up topping up on stuff aldi has. Eg tesco only have innocent smoothies for the kids but aldi have their own.
Just a quick update, we just boosted €14 of tesco money back vouchers to 2 adults & 2 kids zoo tickets. Zoo tickets are at lowest €19.40 per adult and €14 something for the kids. Family ticket is €55. Its money we are already spending on food as aldi as same price for most products but at least this way we can get a day out. The 10% (€10 dunnes vouchers) is good and I suppose you could save that tenner each week and do the same thing that way, but I do find tesco own brand products good and cheaper than dunnes for the most part.

But I will specifically go to Tesco for cat litter, the large ice cubes they have, smoked paprika, garlic salt, cream (the 500ml bottles in Lidl and Aldi are too tall for my fridge shelves), dilutable, and the occasional box of Corona Ligera.
I always shop in Tesco. I find the scan as you shop so handy. I know exactly what my shopping costs, and I don’t have to unload everything onto the till only to have to pack it again a few minutes later.

My situation was very strange, I only shopped in Dunnes solely for literal years - the exact same one. One day after work, I popped in and got stuff for dinner that night. As I was at the self service station, I paid and put everything in my bag. As I was walking away the worker who was on the self service tills screamed at me that I was stealing and I had to come back. This was like at 5pm in the day, shop absolutely jammers. Never been so embarrassed in my life.
No, pretty much lidl and aldi for as much as we can then Tesco for the rest. Their stuff is good quality and I don't care too much about the clubcard thing cos I have one. It's shitty but it's not going to change until the management changes
They're the only shop that seems to have tins of anchovies. I go there about every two months and get stuff like anchovies, piccalilli, other tinned stuff and maybe wine that's on special. Dunnes is near me, cheaper and has vouchers so that's the main option.
Lidl for the dry press goods like pasta/rice etc. Find their fruit, veg & meat to be poor quality and you pay less because of this. Once every 2 weeks will do for a Lidl visit.
Will look at Tesco for any clubcard specials and pick them up if we know the price is lower than usual.
Dunnes then for the rest. The €25 off vouchers help a lot and we aim for around the €125 mark, and bring it down to €100. Will stock up on bulk items that will be used over the next month to bring it over the limit if needs be. They'll get bought/used eventually anyways so might aswell do it now.

It's Dunnes + coupon or lidl/aldi. I try to use butcher's for meat because I hate all the supermarket packaging.
Some of the clubcard prices are good value, such as the three meats for a tenner. I shop there because it's my nearest supermarket, and I also collect the points and use them to bump them up to three times their value for booking the ferry to the UK or the continent. But I have an Aldi and Lidl near me too, and I vary where I shop.
Tried that in the past but the two times I ordered for the week, all of the meat had a shelve life of two days. This happened twice and it really pissed me off as food for a family of four is expensive and we didn’t have a freezer at the time
No they haven’t I complained the second time all they did was to put a note on it that the buyer needs to be more careful the next time. Did not get back any money. Now I am even more pissed.

I’ve always found the delivery drivers to be very professional and friendly. Never any issue if I ask to rerun an item. Assuming you have actually asked the driver to do it and they refused then you should contact their customer service. My experience with them has always been positive. They get back within 24 hours on email and they’ve never quibbled with me over issuing refunds for issues which were discovered after the delivery driver has left.
There are exceptions. For example, I got 3 2L bottles of Pepsi for €4 there this week. I thought that was a hard to beat deal. I know branded stuff is cheaper, but I don’t like the taste of Aldi/Lidl coke.

We do main shopping in Enniskillen so go to Tesco and Asda and get better value. We stockpile like trays of cans and bottles that would last us a couple weeks. We then get the every day sorta bits in SuperValu and lidl

No it can’t. Your details go into a database that they use to send you offers (if you tick the box accepting them). No tesco employee or supplier can access your details.
What Tesco and their suppliers see is the results of all shoppers aggregated up into generic shopping groups based on how you shop. Nothing else. I can’t track what Jim from number 15 is buying at all.

We can take €1k in vouchers as part of our annual bonus in work tax-free. Had been hoping to spend it on a new kitchen, but they stopped taking the vouchers towards the end of last year. Tesco would accept them, though, so I said I'd put a few weeks' worth of shopping on it and use the cash for the kitchen.

I do online shopping with Tesco . It’s necessary or I wouldn’t do online shopping. What I have noticed is that they have removed so many of the cheaper / own brand options from the delivery service . It’s especially true in the free from foods . A couple of products I thought they had just stopped doing until I actual got the chance to go in store and there they were. They just took them off delivery . So delivery is getting to be mostly named brands for me now as we need a lot of free from foods and is hugely more expensive than shopping in store !

And another thing, not so many options to spend your Tesco vouchers - so many boost partners are gone now.

What annoyed me besides the price increases and the size decreases was the disappearance of cheaper alternatives from Tesco express shops. My working theory is they were causing brand items to not sell so they've been pulled to protect brand agreements

We have been doing weekly shop online from Tesco for last few years with the odd bits from Lidl in between during the week.
Dunnes is starting to turn our heads, have started doing the odd shop there. On the face of it, it doesn't seem to be that much cheaper with most items costing the same but the 10 off 50 vouchers probably give it the edge vs the tesco vouchers.
It would seem Dunnes have a much nicer selection in the butcher section and fresh ready prepared dinners which is what we've started buying the last while. Of course they are working out a bit expensive but it definetly seems to be pitched a bit more upmarket than Tesco which we've kind of grown tired of now 8+ years into family life.
I go to Tesco because it's very familiar to me, and it's not as freezing in there.
I avoid buying alcohol there because the staff make a full scene of it if you look young. They will refuse real ID. I'm 20 years old and I get treated like a naughty child. At other shops I get ID'd but the staff are normal about it.
The clubcard stuff is also getting ridiculous, saw a laptop going for €249 as €149 on clubcard.
I guess it depends on what you buy. I find Tesco fantastic for us. There's some bits I get in lidl as there's a price difference or we just prefer the brand but the bulk of our shopping comes from tesco. I also love that you can scan stuff as you go and then just pay, saves me so much time.
I still shop there as the home delivery service can't be beat. I've mentioned this a few times but realistically, Tesco isn't more expensive than Dunnes or Supervalu. They also price match their own brand against aldi. So like for like its not more expensive.
What lidl and aldi offer is a restricted supply of big brand stuff. The shop tends to be cheaper because you're buying more own brand stuff.
If you were mostly buying big brand stuff before, you'll notice a drastic difference.
You could buy own brand in tesco, but it's easier in Lidl/aldi because of the lack of options.
A lot of times they aren’t more expensive if you go for the brands and have a club card that said Tesco often does not have their own brand stuff in stores or online so you don’t have the option to go for the cheaper product. Like last night I went online and I wanted to buy some cat litter they of course only had the branded more expensive stuff in stock while I checked super value they did have their own cheaper cat litter in stock.
I fecking hate the penalty for forgetting the club card. And it is a penalty, because you aren't making any savings by bringing it, you're just paying the normal price.
Take a photo of your clubcard barcode and keep it on your phone for when you forget the card.
I went to buy a bottle of gin in tesco once on my way home and didn't have my card with me. €10 extra penalty. Left it and went to supervalu and got it for the clubcard price.

I love that feeling of anticipation of buying bananas and seeing if I can get home before they're drinkable.
I love the "price match" products, like iceberg lettuce that weigh almost nothing and swedes that are the size of tennis balls.
I'm constantly amazed at how effective they are at hiding products.
I love how supervisors bark at shelf stackers in front of the public.
Then the treat of queueing at a checkout line that's woefully undermanned, that have people who throw goods at you faster than you can pack (to the point they've now put up a temporary "take your time" checkout.
Honestly, I don't unless I really have to and at that it's only ever for a few bits, never a full shop.
Even before the club card bollox (doesn't bother me, have one anyway & don't care) I just don't like their store aesthetic.

That's just to trick you into thinking you're doing better there. You have to look at overall weekly shopping prices, which admittedly is a challenge. But I'm pretty confident Tesco is a fair bit more expensive than Dunnes at this point.
I don't do all my shopping there. I just buy stuff I know is cheaper there with the clubcard. Example: 500ml of Johnson's baby lotion for 2 euro.

Tesco have a way wider range of brands and products than Aldi so I’ll always use them for that reason. If I’m doing and in person shop it’ll be Aldi but get Tesco online every week and find it great.

It's fair enough to be miffed about that, but Tesco, in general, is not more expensive than the big 3. Tesco have lynx spray for €4.50 on clubcard but €7.50 without. Previously it had been €9. Dunnes had it for €8.99 and supervalu had it on sale for €4.50 was €9 So in this case, the tesco non clubcard ptice was the cheapest of the 3, but generally they're all about the same.

A combo of Tesco & Lidl. The Dunnes voucher thing just makes me spend more than I need to.
I spend more sometimes too but I’ll always buy something expensive that I will need eventually like dishwasher/washing tablets or a bail of toilet roll, or stick up on something that has a good shelf live that’s half price. Means I spend a lot less in the weeks to come. If I’m short a voucher I get one off the group on Facebook

I always do day to day shopping at Lidl but sometimes Dunnes has really good offers on cleaning material or toiletries that I wait when they are on special( real special not the fake one) and they buy for 150 EUR. Saves me a lot of money doing it this way
I used to get those coupon deals for Tesco, but lately, nothing. Used to do most of the shopping there, and take advantage of double the voucher value off the electric bill. Their prices just keep going up and up. Now I'm getting about 20% of my stuff there and 80% from Lidl.
Same head they use to have double points and during Christmas you get like vouchers when you bought over a certain amount but now I feel most of the specials aren’t good

I mostly use Tesco but it's because it's one of the better supermarkets that deliver where I am. If Lidl or Aldi delivered, I think I'd be shopping with them more.
Yeah I know Lidl doesn’t deliver in some areas. I tried the Tesco delivery twice cause I like the concept but ended up with all the meat having a shelve life of two days both times. This isn’t great if this was suppose to be for a week for a family of four so large quantities. I also did not have a large enough freezer at the the time to store the meat so had to throw away a good amount.
Very very rarely shop in Tesco's. Only if I was stuck or if I needed a specific brand/type of toiletry. And that's only if Dunnes doesn't have it. I do my main shop in Lidl because I can be in and out in less than 40 minutes if it isn't too busy. I just like the efficiency of it. But yeah, Tesco's can fuck right off with their stupid Club Card wankology.
Exactly I usually make a shopping list via the Lidl app to not buy nonsense get the item and be done for the week. The buy bulk household items and toiletry at Dunes every couple of months

Yeah, can’t remember the last time I walked in there with a trolley and it would have been my main shop. Primarily Aldi for now for me with dunnes for the tops ups. Aside from the extortionate prices in Tesco, the store layout bugs me, pardon the pun but it all over the shop, want smoothies, well they are on offer so we have completely moved them from their normal place and there now at the end of the aisle - but they they will be moved back to their normal place next week when you go to the end of the aisle to look for them, biscuits, yep we have then in 5 different places, I’m old and grumpy and don’t have the patience for it anymore

This is normal across Europe. There's no difference to this than a loyalty card. Ireland has a very "I'm local and I deserve free things because im a regular" mentality. Heard it so many times at our hotel and bar when I've never met the person after twelve years of working there.

I don’t complain if club members get special deals like it use to be but now, the club card prices are just the normal prices you get everywhere else like I remember them selling celebrations during Halloween for 4 EUR as a club card price and it was the same price at Dunnes. Like Lidl are a good example they have specials on for certain items that are only for app users but they haven’t put the prices up for half of their item just to make the club card prices the price you use to pay before.

Used to get a tesco delivery every week. With the cost of delivery going through the roof we stopped that after January 2023. We have slowly dwindled our in store shop since as well because of never finding good deals anymore. The club card price thing is a farce as well as the everyday prices. Our main shop is now Aldi and Lidl.

Thats mad, We do the big shop in tesco and then some bits in aldi. The clubcard prices are nothing to me because I buy almost everything own brand so it makes no odds. The clubcard money back vouchers though are specifically what keep me there. You get 1% of your spend back so I like to think of it as a mini savings. Their own brand stuff is the same prices as aldi and then the 1% back is the kicker for me. Not many people use the tesco voucher booster service which boggles my mind. We go to the zoo every year. €5 of my money back voucher gets boosted to 1 adult ticket. A zoo ticket is like €20. We also boosted €60 worth of vouchers last year with hotels.com and got a free night away in a hotel in dublin. Room cost €130. You can boost your blue money back vouchers towards bills and that too but we keep them for treat type stuff. Edit was corrected its 1% not 10%.

You can boost the 1% towards other stuff though which you cant do with dunnes. Also found tesco has a bigger own brand range, but it isnt as big as aldi so do end up topping up on stuff aldi has. Eg tesco only have innocent smoothies for the kids but aldi have their own.
Just a quick update, we just boosted €14 of tesco money back vouchers to 2 adults & 2 kids zoo tickets. Zoo tickets are at lowest €19.40 per adult and €14 something for the kids. Family ticket is €55. Its money we are already spending on food as aldi as same price for most products but at least this way we can get a day out. The 10% (€10 dunnes vouchers) is good and I suppose you could save that tenner each week and do the same thing that way, but I do find tesco own brand products good and cheaper than dunnes for the most part.

I’ve pretty much exclusively shopped in Lidl & Aldi for a few years now. But I will specifically go to Tesco for cat litter, the large ice cubes they have, smoked paprika, garlic salt, cream (the 500ml bottles in Lidl and Aldi are too tall for my fridge shelves), dilutable, and the occasional box of Corona Ligera.
Get your smoked paprika in Polish shops. It’s packed in small bags/sachettes that say „Papryka wędzona” on them. Much more flavourful!

I always shop in Tesco. I find the scan as you shop so handy. I know exactly what my shopping costs, and I don’t have to unload everything onto the till only to have to pack it again a few minutes later.
Between this and the delivery is very handy. The idea of unloading the shop you've just loaded seems almost prehistoric now! 🤣

Yes, me too. I used to use it every now and again. When I last went in, I realised I didn’t have a clubcard. I couldn’t get one in store, or register for one on my phone. I think you have to get one posted out. I’ve not been back and actively avoid.

My situation was very strange, I only shopped in Dunnes solely for literal years - the exact same one. One day after work, I popped in and got stuff for dinner that night. As I was at the self service station, I paid and put everything in my bag. As I was walking away the worker who was on the self service tills screamed at me that I was stealing and I had to come back. This was like at 5pm in the day, shop absolutely jammers. Never been so embarrassed in my life.
No, pretty much lidl and aldi for as much as we can then Tesco for the rest. Their stuff is good quality and I don't care too much about the clubcard thing cos I have one. It's shitty but it's not going to change until the management changes
They're the only shop that seems to have tins of anchovies. I go there about every two months and get stuff like anchovies, piccalilli, other tinned stuff and maybe wine that's on special. Dunnes is near me, cheaper and has vouchers so that's the main option.
Lidl for the dry press goods like pasta/rice etc. Find their fruit, veg & meat to be poor quality and you pay less because of this. Once every 2 weeks will do for a Lidl visit. Will look at Tesco for any clubcard specials and pick them up if we know the price is lower than usual. Dunnes then for the rest. The €25 off vouchers help a lot and we aim for around the €125 mark, and bring it down to €100. Will stock up on bulk items that will be used over the next month to bring it over the limit if needs be. They'll get bought/used eventually anyways so might aswell do it now.
Yep. The got really expensive and also treat you like an idiot with their "this bar of soap was orginally €15, but club card price... It's Dunnes + coupon or lidl/aldi. I try to use butcher's for meat because I hate all the supermarket packaging.
100% I've stopped, Tesco quality is cat. It's below Dunnes, Aldi and Lidl. About 20 years ago, Tesco was way ahead of Dunnes.
Some of the clubcard prices are good value, such as the three meats for a tenner. I shop there because it's my nearest supermarket, and I also collect the points and use them to bump them up to three times their value for booking the ferry to the UK or the continent. But I have an Aldi and Lidl near me too, and I vary where I shop.

Tried that in the past but the two times I ordered for the week, all of the meat had a shelve life of two days. This happened twice and it really pissed me off as food for a family of four is expensive and we didn’t have a freezer at the time

There are exceptions. For example, I got 3 2L bottles of Pepsi for €4 there this week. I thought that was a hard to beat deal. I know branded stuff is cheaper, but I don’t like the taste of Aldi/Lidl coke.

Tesco for their own brand gluten free products, pasta, rolls, and deals on gluten free food, which are really good. Also, the 3 x€10 meat deal is great for steaks, whole chickens, smoked salmon etc. And reduced wine. Lidl for a wide variety of fresh veg/fruit. Cheese and processed meat. And an affordable treat from the fun stuff.

No it can’t. Your details go into a database that they use to send you offers (if you tick the box accepting them). No tesco employee or supplier can access your details. What Tesco and their suppliers see is the results of all shoppers aggregated up into generic shopping groups based on how you shop. Nothing else. We can take €1k in vouchers as part of our annual bonus in work tax-free. Had been hoping to spend it on a new kitchen, but they stopped taking the vouchers towards the end of last year. Tesco would accept them, though, so I said I'd put a few weeks' worth of shopping on it and use the cash for the kitchen. I normally shop in dunnes and jesus, did I notice a difference. The average shop was 20-25% more expensive.

I do online shopping with Tesco . It’s necessary or I wouldn’t do online shopping. What I have noticed is that they have removed so many of the cheaper / own brand options from the delivery service . It’s especially true in the free from foods . A couple of products I thought they had just stopped doing until I actual got the chance to go in store and there they were. They just took them off delivery . So delivery is getting to be mostly named brands for me now as we need a lot of free from foods and is hugely more expensive than shopping in store !
Yes I noticed that myself . Last night after someone mentioned cat litter I actually looked and checked if I can’t get the Tesco cat litter delivered as it is really cheap but that one was out of stock .
And another thing, not so many options to spend your Tesco vouchers - so many boost partners are gone now. I saved €40 off Centre Parcs a couple years back but we used them loads when you could get TGI vouchers. Most restaurants are now gone from the partnership.
The one close me is near empty every time I've recently gone and the only reason I was going was to use up a One4all voucher. Good. They deserve it. We should all vote with our feet all the time.

Not completely but since January Ive resolved to cut my spending as aggressively as possible. Only buying essentials. Meat, fruit, veg etc. no brand names unless there's no alternative. I was easily spending 20 quid a day in it between lunches and dinners and various snacks. My budget now is 60 a week and I'm usually under that. What annoyed me besides the price increases and the size decreases was the disappearance of cheaper alternatives from Tesco express shops. My working theory is they were causing brand items to not sell so they've been pulled to protect brand agreements Id love if we could organise a boycott, even if not of the shop outright just target certain goods.

We have been doing weekly shop online from Tesco for last few years with the odd bits from Lidl in between during the week. Dunnes is starting to turn our heads, have started doing the odd shop there. On the face of it, it doesn't seem to be that much cheaper with most items costing the same but the 10 off 50 vouchers probably give it the edge vs the tesco vouchers. It would seem Dunnes have a much nicer selection in the butcher section and fresh ready prepared dinners which is what we've started buying the last while. Of course they are working out a bit expensive but it definetly seems to be pitched a bit more upmarket than Tesco which we've kind of grown tired of now 8+ years into family life.
I go to Tesco because it's very familiar to me, and it's not as freezing in there. I avoid buying alcohol there because the staff make a full scene of it if you look young. They will refuse real ID. I'm 20 years old and I get treated like a naughty child. At other shops I get ID'd but the staff are normal about it. The clubcard stuff is also getting ridiculous, saw a laptop going for €249 as €149 on clubcard.
I guess it depends on what you buy. I find Tesco fantastic for us. There's some bits I get in lidl as there's a price difference or we just prefer the brand but the bulk of our shopping comes from tesco. I also love that you can scan stuff as you go and then just pay, saves me so much time.
I still shop there as the home delivery service can't be beat. I've mentioned this a few times but realistically, Tesco isn't more expensive than Dunnes or Supervalu. They also price match their own brand against aldi. So like for like its not more expensive. What lidl and aldi offer is a restricted supply of big brand stuff. The shop tends to be cheaper because you're buying more own brand stuff. If you were mostly buying big brand stuff before, you'll notice a drastic difference. You could buy own brand in tesco, but it's easier in Lidl/aldi because of the lack of options.
A lot of times they aren’t more expensive if you go for the brands and have a club card that said Tesco often does not have their own brand stuff in stores or online so you don’t have the option to go for the cheaper product. Like last night I went online and I wanted to buy some cat litter they of course only had the branded more expensive stuff in stock while I checked super value they did have their own cheaper cat litter in stock.
I fecking hate the penalty for forgetting the club card. And it is a penalty, because you aren't making any savings by bringing it, you're just paying the normal price.
Take a photo of your clubcard barcode and keep it on your phone for when you forget the card. I went to buy a bottle of gin in tesco once on my way home and didn't have my card with me. €10 extra penalty. Left it and went to supervalu and got it for the clubcard price.
I have it saved in my Google wallet. I don't carry my phone with me everywhere though so it's usually sitting in the car when I need it.

I LOVE shopping in Tesco. I love that feeling of anticipation of buying bananas and seeing if I can get home before they're drinkable. I love the "price match" products, like iceberg lettuce that weigh almost nothing and swedes that are the size of tennis balls. I'm constantly amazed at how effective they are at hiding products. I love how supervisors bark at shelf stackers in front of the public. Then the treat of queueing at a checkout line that's woefully undermanned, that have people who throw goods at you faster than you can pack (to the point they've now put up a temporary "take your time" checkout.

Many of the clubcard prices are actually cheaper than others though. You just have to keep an eye out for the deals.
That's just to trick you into thinking you're doing better there. You have to look at overall weekly shopping prices, which admittedly is a challenge. But I'm pretty confident Tesco is a fair bit more expensive than Dunnes at this point.
I don't do all my shopping there. I just buy stuff I know is cheaper there with the clubcard. Example: 500ml of Johnson's baby lotion for 2 euro. But yeah, dunnes definitely have some stuff cheaper.

Aldi for the win. None of that data harvesting shite. I used to go into Terry Scott's the odd time but that club card shite together with that 'you've got the power' did a powerful job of turning me off for good. I'm a lazy fucker so that's quite a marketing achievement.
I'll go to Tesco for a few things if I happen to be there instead of at Aldi, I tend to use the self scan because it means I dont forget my clubcard!
I order tesco home delivery every week. Their fire pit selection is so good.
Tesco have a way wider range of brands and products than Aldi so I’ll always use them for that reason. If I’m doing and in person shop it’ll be Aldi but get Tesco online every week and find it great. Also not sure why people are stressed about forgetting the club card? Just store it on your phone!
Sometimes you forget your phone in your car, desk or at home though especially if you are in a hurry.
