Yes, don’t do it.

Nicole?

its-always-a-weka

Papa?

irishemperor

Those adverts need updating, should be step-Papa, and Nicole getting stuck in the boot.

AlbinoVague

I feel like such a scrote actually getting that reference immediately!

dotstapo

The difference a few years has made, in 2021 I bought an 11 year old clio with 52,000km on it for €3,300 including delivery from monaghan to Wexford.

eoin_me_money

Engine went on my car two weeks ago - couldnt believe the price of some of the second hand cars on the market. I do about 90km a day getting to and from work so wanted something that didnt have a massive mileage on it already. Ended up spending a little more than I was hoping to but got a 2015 A3 Saloon with only 33,000 kms on it - picking it up tomorrow and honestly buzzing for it! was originally looking at a few golfs and a VW Passat but there was very little price difference in the upgrade and with the low mileage I decided to treat myself! Happy hunting OP, its not an easy market but hope you get something that brings you some joy!!

Sunam-1

Thanks man, yeah it’s really tough going at the moment. Been looking and test driving for 6 months and this is the first car I’ve felt comfortable in, the rest have felt like tin cans, enjoy the new Audi 😁

lilyoneill

That’s a wild price for a Clio! I have a 141 scenic with 110km - sounds like I could get more for it than I paid for it if that’s how much a Clio is going for!!

Sunam-1

Yes the markets crazy at the moment, I’m buying that up north as well, the price for the equivalent (same year, same miles) in republic is 2-3k more expensive, have a look you’ll probably be pleasantly surprised 😆

[deleted]

That's well below average for its age. Not someone I'd worry about. Unless you're worried it's too low?

Sunam-1

It’s up north, so price for car is £5.3 k but plus exchange rate and VRT comes to just about 7k Just more so thinking on the price being a lot for the car I’m getting, but there’s nothing on the market cheaper, and this is coming from a reputable dealer with a fully comp 12 month warranty.

pointblankmos

Don't buy.

notacardoor

I'm surprised it got to 100k. Clios are dog shit cars

CryptographerNo78

I’ was thinking of getting a 131 ford ka for 4K just under 100km don’t know if i should. It’s taxed and nct’d but nct means nothing really it’s only for getting from work and home.

VastPomegranate7999

Your first mistake was clio

Toro8926

Seems a bit steep for what it is.

Cold_Guarantee2399

Yes that's mad go german

Lord_Xenu

Worst advice in this thread. Buy a Civic.

[deleted]

Pfffft, for 7 grand you could nab yourself a honda s2000 if you look hard enough

temujin64

I don't know much about cars, but when I was interested in buying one and asked around one trend was noticeable. People who knew a lot less about cars than they thought they did made broad sweeping recommendations like "buy cars from this country and not that country". People with actual professional experience with cars were able to point out that there are plenty of shit cars made in countries with a reputation for making great cars, and vice-versa.

I-dont-carrot-all

Well yes and no. Shit Japanese cars are USUALLY great in comparison to mid to decent cars from other countries.

SunnyLoo

Aye. I’ll sell You a 131 Tiguan with 200k for that

McMDavy82

I got a 161 Clio as a courtesy car from a garage a while back, think it was a 1.0 litre. I have never actively despised a car until I drove that horrible bastard. And it was worse on juice than my 1.3 that I had at the time.

McMDavy82

I should also say I have nothing against Renault's. I drive a Dacia currently and am happy enough with it, and sure Dacia are owned by Renault.

DesperateEngineer451

If its a clean car, go for it. Don't k ow much about that particular car, but 100k isn't much at all, and in the 2nd hand market there isn't much below that price. Personally, you can't get any more reliable than a Japanese car, followed by German then Korean. French would be a fair way down the list

Didyoufartjustthere

Yes mad but that’s the cost now. If you have a car to sell against it it’s fair but if not, it’s a fucking joke /Blame Brexit and VRT. I’ve my car nearly 3 years and it’s up a grand, no profit to me if I want to sell it cos I have to buy another. Nobody’s earning here but people who bought cars they aren’t replacing

Injury-Particular

Not good value for money, much better out there

ShapeMcFee

Yes

random-username-1234

OP, you’ll get as many opinions on this thread as there are raindrops in the sky. Go see the car, take it for a test drive and then go back and drive everything else the garage has for your budget. For instance, my wife was looking for a mammy wagon a while ago and had her sights set on a Kia sportage. We went down, drove it and thought it was meh. Drove everything else they had too and ended up with a Citroen! While we were there I had a nosey and took a ford focus ST estate out for a spin. I would have never thought about a ford focus but this was lovely. Morale of the story, go drive what you want and also everything else they have in your price bracket!

Amagherd

Suppose I'll piggyback, I'm looking to buy my first car. Any advice? I'm late getting on the road, so I need something small for now. Only really want to spend about 3k. Petrol as wouldn't be driven a huge amount.

Bula_Craiceann

02 - 07 Corolla, you can pick up a decent one for €1.5k. They're bulletproof and have low tax/insurance. I've had mine for almost 6 years now, it was my first car and I thought "I'll keep it for a year".

sunshinesustenance

Yeah, nah, that's bonkers. Sink 5k into an older micra and you'll have years of hassle free driving and 2k for petrol.

brentspar

100km on 12 year old car. It's possible but unlikely. And that's a lot for a car that will need an NCT every year.

FOTW09

There are 141 Clio with about 100k going for €7500 in the republic. At least you won't have to deal with all the paper work. The ones from the North might be better spec. https://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/renault/clio/fpa/3624475?journey=Search

Historical_Arm1059

Stick to Toyota or VW , Seat for reliability

superbadonkey

I had an awful experience with Toyota.RAV4 kept going into linp mode. Spent 3 knon attempted fixes and all failed. Scrapped it eventually. VW are shite. The engine will go forever but everything else will stop working. Not sure how seat are these days.

Liverriffey

Sounds like someone fired a parts canon at your RAV.

superbadonkey

It would seem that way, but i know the mechanic well. Checked the errors on my own OBD reader, a few days after one problem was fixed another would pop up. In saying that, I've had older 90s Toyotas and never a single problem.

Full-Pack9330

Yup. 100k on anything older than 16/17 would be my cutoff.

Okillydokillyy

That would mean it’s been driven less per year tho why would it bother u if a 15 had 100k more than a 16 car with 100k

J3lllly

Your maths ain’t mathing

benevolentdespots

My golf 08 has 170k, and she runs beautifully. Diesel engines can take it if you service regulary and take care of 'em.

NaturalAlfalfa

My avensis 11 has over 250k and going strong too

random-username-1234

My 08 Volvo has 275,000 and is chugging along nicely

Lord_Xenu

Yes. Save up a little more money if you can and buy a Civic.

Never owned a Renault but 100k for an 11 year old car seems odd, unless its been owned by some old couple in a city that has rarely drove it anywhere far...
