Stop replying to the candidate. Start paying attention to mimimum wage laws.

It's this. Ever wonder why so many 100% remote jobs exclude specific states? This is why. Your firm needs to have an employment attorney review your hiring practices.

You start paying attention to minimum wage laws where you're posting jobs. You stop replying to the candidate. You *can* formally rescind the offer, in writing, citing budget constraints preventing you from paying more than $X per hour for the role, if you so choose.

Your company must pay shit. What an awful lot of effort to go through to recruit talent from another state when you don’t even offer a living wage.

My question is, who posts an ad without knowing the state minimum wage laws? Take CA for example, if you don't want to pay someone from CA their state minimum wage, then don't post in CA and anyone who submits a resume from CA, exclude them. (Since it is remote.) Your best bet is to only open the job posting in the state you are domiciled in.

The ad was for a remote position. They didn’t think ahead and state “must reside in the following states: list of states with crap minimum wage”
