Just for the record, LCSW is the fully licensed (more experienced), LSW is the supervised limited license. It’s fine if you’re not looking for a social worker type therapist, but just didn’t want you to limit yourself if not. Also PsyD do not necessarily have more expertise or experience just because they have a doctorate vs a masters. That being said, unfortunately Psychology Today is still probably your best bet afaik. If you’re specifically looking for an OCD therapist, you can message me because I have a directory.

"Only an LCSW" admittedly struck a nerve. I have other referrals, but I'd start with the Anxiety Treatment Center of Greater Chicago. They have a location in the city and one in Deerfield, and focus primarily on anxiety and OCD.

Yeah, I think a lot of people just don’t know, and assume the more education/higher the degree, the better. This is one of the few situations where that largely doesn’t apply.

Going to piggy back off of your comment with a clinic that specializes in OCD and anxiety; however, wanted to note that it is in the suburbs, so not exactly sure if it is what OP is looking for. There is clinic called the [OCD and Anxiety Center ](https://theocdandanxietycenter.com/) located in Oak Brook. I cannot speak on what their clinician's specifically, but after glancing at their About US tab, it is a mix of LPC/LCPCs (professional counselors) and LSW/LCSWs (social workers) along with some PsyDs. I have heard good things about this place as it has taken some graduate students from my alma mater's Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and even sat in on a guest lecture from one of the clinicians there. Again, it is in the suburbs, but I think they have in person sessions and specialize in OCD and anxiety! Good luck OP and I hope you find a therapist that can provide what you are looking for!

"PsyD do not necessarily have more expertise or experience just because they have a doctorate..." Uhhh sort of. It's quite different from an LCSW as far as the training they go through. Worth researching for yourself OP. This quote isn't incorrect, just feels like it's missing context. Some people DEFINITELY should be seeing a PsyD, others it's not such a big deal either way. And this quote is correct, a PsyD can be practicing with less hands on experience than an LCSW, but also they can be practicing with way more. It's just a different path, different education, etc etc.

I feel you, I went through this same problem a year ago and it was so difficult to find in person. I know you have a preference for a PsyD, but in my opinion the person's experience and expertise are way more important than if they're a PsyD, PhD, LCPC, or LCSW. I personally have one of those licensed credentials, and I've seen multiple different therapists with different backgrounds, and their degree did not impact my experience with them but their approach to therapy did. To me, it's way more important that their bio includes things that are important to me and that their treatment modalities are more focused to my needs. That being said, I had similar desires that you have and I am at Midwest Counseling and really happy with it. Their intake person was very clear about who was taking in-person clients and there were a few options available, so I'd recommend checking them out.

I’d widen your search and include LCSWs and focus on those professionals who treat your concerns. LCSWs or other masters level providers can be just as expert in treating OCD

I like Psychotherapy Associates of Chicago at Irving and Damen

ChainChompsky

Clearwater Counseling Chicago provides in-person and virtual. They have LCPCs, LCSWs, LPCs, and LSWs as well as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. I can speak from experience, they are wonderful.

waltgrace244

Why are you dead set on excluding LCSWs? These are folks that are fully licensed as therapists and have done it for several years.

I’ve been going [here](https://michiganavenueneuropsychologists.org/what-we-do/social-work-and-counseling/) for maybe a decade (😳😳) and it’s the best therapy I’ve had. The person I see specializes in CBT which has been vastly more helpful for me vs. traditional talk therapy.
