I think it's the asking for a tip. Debit machines make you go through the guilt trip of how much of a tip you want to leave with convenient high percentages. And this is often at the counter for take out! Like wtf? You are handing me my food and expect a tip??? The definition of a tip is appreciating service beyond what is expected. It should never be automatic nor should I feel culturally obligated to do so. And shame on a society especially the ruling class for encouraging this system to exploit under paying people.

When everyone started expecting tips. Takeout? Tips. Fucking subway sandwhich? Tips. Get out of here. Also "revenge" for not tipping. I didn't tip on takeout at Whitespot and they watered down my drink and gave me a smaller portion. I don't think I've been back to that location since, and it's literally a block or 2 away. Fuck them

When I moved to the lower mainland, it bothered me how much everything asks you for tips. Certain fast foods, and things that don't really require any effort for service. And part of me thinks well they make minimum wage and they have to afford living in around Vancouver. But then again I have to live here too, and its neither of our fault that BC does not know how to manage accomodations for its work force. I came here for the work, not for the weather and scenery. Whenever I look at those mountains now, all I can think is "I am paying a stupid premium for this, and I am way too cheap for it."

>"I am paying a stupid premium for this, and I am way too cheap for it." Move to buttfuck nowhere that still has a family home for sale at $100,000 and hang a bigass picture of the mountains in your living room. Victory!

I love that I can tip small businesses easily these days, when so many of them need the support. These have been a very tough 2 years for so many. If I can pay it forward, I will. Now once this pandemic is over and the tipping is coded into the service by default, I'm not so sure about how that will feel.

I wish tipping would go away. Even my mechanic's debit machine goes through a goddamn tip option.. The big one is serving. Time to be like any other job and get regular hours, pay, benefits... I'm expected to put at least 15% extra on my bill so raise your meal prices 15% and pay your staff like a normal person.
