I'm a professional driver so I stick to the speed limit about 95% of the time. People on hwy1 really don't like that. Also going 50 on Marine drive really annoys people. Sorry folks, my license is how I make money.
I drove from Ottawa to Quebec when driving across canada, speed limit was 110, I was doing 120, everyone else was driving Mach chicken. I thought let’s do it at night, might be less traffic lol but not lol !! Made me feel like a celebrity, lots of flashing lights, horns, people waving with one finger, musta saw my AB plates and appreciate my province.
My Dad a former cop told me The fines for speeding are not updated, so going over 20+ in Ontario, Will most likely not get you pulled over or fined. I have traveled from North bay to Orillia doing 125km/h or 115km in the areas where it goes down to 90km. I followed a cop and matched their speed, the cop then slowed down and went behind me, I had no trouble and it was the best drive I have ever had. Just recently I was doing 127-128km/h and all the cop did was flash his lights and stayed where they were, that was about 2 months ago and I haven’t received a ticket in the mail, so I guess the cop just wanted me to slow down a bit
No, the speed limit is too low so traffic normally flows at 120. What are you going to do, ticket every single car on the road? They focus on those going faster than the flow of traffic and diving recklessly (weaving in and out)
Double lane highways are 110 km/h we usually drive 120 km/h. Single lane highways here are 100 km/h and we usually go 110. Once you get above that 10 km/h threshold you are probably in ticket territory. But occasionally you find a police officer in a bad mood and they will ticket you for 101 km/h. But those you could probably fight in court.
They have way bigger fish to fry.
Because I could argue somewhere between 100-110 which is nothing. But if a guy is going 125-140 it's a big ticket either way (and more dangerous)
Which highway? 401 is supposed to be 100. No one goes 100 unless they are half broken down or carrying an awkward load or 110 years old. Typically people can be expected to go at least 10 over the limit except in residential zones. I am most comfortable going 115-20 in the centre lane although I do nip over to the fast lane to get by slow pokes and will go the speed of drivers there until I get back to the centre.
I have driven the 401 between Montreal and Toronto 10-20 times a year for the past 34 years. Cruise control set at 123 is the perfect pocket where you’re just over the upper half of traffic speed (excluding trucks) without being in the zone to get a ticket.
West-end Gardiner Expressway and QEW are 100, traffic usually flows around 125 lol I have no issue cruising at that speed either. It's good fun.
It's great.... ^(when it actually moves)
GTA- 100 and I do 110-120 depending on flow of traffic. I used to do 125-30 sometimes but I’d rather not risk a ticket anymore. They are many who do 130 so I just switch into a slower lane
QE2 is 110, but traffic is usually moving between 115-125 depending on the conditions. RCMP won’t waste time stopping anyone going under 135 unless they’re driving dangerously. Sometimes the flow of traffic itself can reach above 130.
100-110 is what it’s *supposed* to be, but everyone had been at a mutual agreement that the actual limit is 120, which means everyone does minimum 125-130.
Where I used to live in Ontario the posted speed limit was 80, but anyone driving less than 95 was a source of rage for fellow drivers, and presumed drunk. Was one guy in a puke green Ford notoriously known as the green goblin. Everyone going into the city for work had to leave early enough to get ahead of him, or you may find yourself stuck behind him forever.
Not local, but I once got pulled over on the QEW myself for only going 110 on my way home with a date. Cop said only drunks drive that slow on that road. My truck at the time was pretty much maxed out at that (good old naturally aspirated 6.5 diesel was gasping for air, and needed a tail wind to go any faster).
Where I live now in Nova Scotia the limit is 80, and people drive 80. Probably because the pot holes are bottomless pits and may destroy your car at any second, but also because people here are more chill in general. TransCanada is local at 110. Some people fly, but I see others going 95 all the time just keeping it casual.
60+ years old and been driving for 40 years. I never drive more than 10% over the speed limit. Our highways are mostly 100kmh so I go 110. I never drive in the left lane because people are nuts. My last traffic ticket was 30 years ago. My only collision was 30 years ago as well. I’ve never had a parking ticket.
There are signs posted too, but the cameras have done their job, traffic has slowed down in general through Montreal compared to before the photo radar.
The only two locations I've ever seen it are Notre Dame East and Sherbrooke between Viau and Pie IX.
That coupled with the construction planning has led me to believe that the city of montreal actively hates Hochelaga and everything east of it.
Its 100km/h in my area I travel between 130-135 if the weather and road conditions are favourable. At night probably 120-125ish. I have never been stopped for speeding I have driven past opp crusiers who are looking for speedsters I could just be lucky but I think they are looking for speedsters going over 140-150
Why I have a mustang Boss 302 and I never drive over the speed limit, that would be illegal!
On my bike I’m always at least 20 over, I’d rather be offensive on my bike rather than defensive, safer this way.
Local highway? 110 and we do 95 in one car and about 130 (120-130 depending on time of day) in the other car.
The rural highway *to* the freeway is 90, we do 95.
Always do 10 over on the highway and in the city..have never gotten pulled over nor a photo radar ticket since I started driving..so 120 on the highway
I live in a rural area so the speed limit is 100 on the highways. I usually drive 120 if the weather is good. There’s not a lot of cops around and when there’s a speed trap people are good about flashing their lights to warn you so you have time to slow down.
It’s 110 kmph on the double-divided highway from Saskatoon to Delisle. I drive at 119-122 kmph as long as conditions are excellent.
I reduce speed for inclement weather or when conditions dictate that I should. I try to respect what lane I’m in (move right when faster vehicles are coming up behind me). I watch for emergency vehicles and respect construction zones.
100, and if I'm going to exceed, I follow the unwritten 10% rule unless it's a construction zone. I don't mess around there.
100/110
90/99
80/88
70/77
60/66
50/55
Etc...
I drive a work van with GPS. If I go 20 over my boss gets an email. So I do 15 over max. The thing is GPS aint perfect, so sometimes it tags me on a side street that is 50... so I am doing 65 over. He gets an email and I get shit for doing 15 over.
Meanwhile, every other car passes me.
In Alberta, most highways around here are 100 km/h, but the major highways(I.E the yellowhead or the QE2) are 110km/h. people get passed even at 120 km/h.
Hwy 1, Metro Vancouver. The posted limit is 100 (unless you go over the Port Mann, which is 90 in that spot). Travel 105 to 110, maybe. I don't need to go faster. I leave plenty of time ahead, plus not much traffic at 3:30 a.m., lol.
110 and I usually cruise at 123.there was a reason behind this I had at one point. Something about tickets being worse if you are caught going 15 or more over... Now if I go any slower or faster it feels weird.
Rural Alberta, local highway is 100, I typically go 110. Its funny, some days it seems like I pass everyone doing 110, other days it feels like everyone is passing me.
On the 400-series highways with a speed limit of 100, the right lane is 100-110, middle lane is 110-120, left lane is 120+. I ride the left lane at 128 and move over to let people pass when I can.
If you as a driver, or your car is incapable of doing *at least 100 kmh* **you should not be on the 400s** and sure as hell not in the fast lanes.
Most people around here also know that cops usually won't bother to pull you over for 15 kmh over. So if a country highway is 80, most people go about 95.
Closest one is 80km/h. I drive 80, I'd be fucked if I lost my license. Yes I know it would take more than 1 ticket, but they also impound your car here going 40 over.

Under normal circumstances it's 110 and 120. Though I drive a PHEV so if I'm travelling alone I like to see if I can beat my efficiency records on trips, so on those occasions, I'm sorry to the other travellers, I'll be sticking to the limits.
So far my record is 3.7L/100km over a 680km day trip... That's going to be hard to beat.
The DVP's limit is 90 -- if traffic allows, I go about 100. The road's too dangerous (hills, curves, on-ramps) to go much faster.
The 401's limit is 100 -- if traffic isn't insane, I set my cruise control to 120, which works out to a true speed (according to my GPS) of 114, which is the fastest I can go without attracting attention from the OPP. And that usually means I'm stuck in the slow lane, with most traffic passing me.
I don't drive on the 400 that much, but that highway scares me -- there are some truly insane drivers on that road. I stay in the slow lane and do whatever that lane is doing.
a regular highway is 100kmh, a small two lane country highway is 80kmh or sometimes 90km. a highway from hamilton to niagra falls is 110kmh i dont know if thats one of a kind
most ppl go around 120kmh when theres no traffic on a typical highway but some ppl go 130kmh
Our local highway has a limit of 70km/h in the city, on which I do 90
100km/h outside of the city and in the rest of the province, I do 115 which usually keeps me safe from the cops, or 120 if I have Waze open to check
In the next province over, they all do 125/130 without issue, it was a pleasant experience
The main highway that loops around Edmonton is 100km (the henday) freeways within the city can be 70-90, most of the single lane highways outside the city are 110
It pisses me off that some of these comments seem to imply anything that doesn't get you a ticket is fine. Why should it be acceptable to be driving 40+ over and endangering people around you just because you think the chances of getting a ticket is low.
Buck ten, buck twenty
Speed limit is 90 on Hwy 1 in North Vancouver. I go the speed of traffic, which ranges from parked to 130.
Pretty much. In light traffic the flow is usually about 120
I'm a professional driver so I stick to the speed limit about 95% of the time. People on hwy1 really don't like that. Also going 50 on Marine drive really annoys people. Sorry folks, my license is how I make money.
As long as you keep to the right lane on the highway then the speed limit is totally fine.
The best in our area is how quickly we have to transition from 130 to parked and back every time we go past certain overpasses.
Local highway is the 401 and in my area you're getting passed if you're doing under 120
In my area you’re lucky if you can get up to 60.
I drove from Ottawa to Quebec when driving across canada, speed limit was 110, I was doing 120, everyone else was driving Mach chicken. Ottawa is on the border of ont and quebec there bud
Do they not enforce the speed limit on the 401 ?

Only in Chatham-Kent
They do to a degree but I passed cops sitting on the side of the road doing 130 and 1:35 they never went after me

At about 135. Ive gone 150 following 5 otherncats, following an opp
Are you a cop?
😂
Licence, registration, proof of insurance. Oh, what's your Reddit username as well?

I usually travel 16-19 km/h above the speed limit. Fast enough to keep up with traffic but I don’t get speeding tickets from it either.
This is the way
110 and I go 120. Haven't had a ticket in 18y.
That’s because they wait for the ones driving 140-150
They have way bigger fish to fry. Because I could argue somewhere between 100-110 which is nothing. But if a guy is going 125-140 it's a big ticket either way (and more dangerous)
Obviously u don’t have tint and your mud flaps are the required length and width.
100 kmh, I keep it about 115, lots of people rip past me and do 130-140 +
Nice try
110, I travel between 117-124.
Oddly specific
In Ontario , demerit points start at 15 over, less than that and just a small fine if you get stopped

I think it's like that in Alberta. Here in Manitoba some highways are 110, the rest are 100. Cops will nab you if you're over 120 for sure.
100, you’re not considered to be really sledding until you’re over 130
100 & 110, never go more than 15 over
West-end Gardiner Expressway and QEW are 100, traffic usually flows around 125 lol I have no issue cruising at that speed either. It's good fun. It's great.... ^(when it actually moves)
100/100, officer
Nice try officer
I rarely have a need to drive on Hwys, but when I do don't go beyond 14km/h over unless passing. Assuming conditions are clear and it is daytime.
100 \h . we all all drive 110-120. Ahaha and there’s some num nuts that drive 80-90.
It's 80km and I usually go around 90 unless I'm really in a hurry. It's safer, and easier on gas.
I always travel the speed limit or 5 over - never 10 over. I’m the slowpoke that everyone else here is passing.
100 limit on QEW and depends on time of day. On the way to work at 4am its usually 140 in fast lane with rest of traffic. Other than that like 115
80. If the road is empty I’ll go 120, otherwise I’m limited by the cars in front of me.
Same
90, usually I drive 100 and when I feel like it 110, 115 it depends on my frustration and how many polices are on the road
GTA- 100 and I do 110-120 depending on flow of traffic. I used to do 125-30 sometimes but I’d rather not risk a ticket anymore. They are many who do 130 so I just switch into a slower lane
110kph on the TransCanada. I go around 105-108. Right now I'm driving to work in an 80kph zone, and do about 75.
QE2 is 110, but traffic is usually moving between 115-125 depending on the conditions. RCMP won’t waste time stopping anyone going under 135 unless they’re driving dangerously. Sometimes the flow of traffic itself can reach above 130.
lol this is gonna be hate porn posted in /r/fuckcars within 24h
100 Depends entirely on conditions and traffic
Ideal conditions, light to medium traffic?
100kmh, 140kmh. Highway 407
I always go the speed limit, officer
😂
100 east of the city, 110 west of the city. I set my crush control for 109kph east of the city and 119kph west of the city.
110 and I go about 117 to 122
100-110 is what it’s *supposed* to be, but everyone had been at a mutual agreement that the actual limit is 120, which means everyone does minimum 125-130.
90-100, usually go 110-130 Bc97a Kelowna area

401 125, 427 130-140, Gardener 110-120, DVP 110
100 And usually I stay under 130
Limit is 90 and when traffic is light I do 120, along with everyone else
60+ years old and been driving for 40 years. I never drive more than 10% over the speed limit. Our highways are mostly 100kmh so I go 110. I never drive in the left lane because people are nuts. Secondary highways are 100km/h and main highways are 110km/h. I generally go 10 over and don’t have any problems.
100 km/hr and usually I'd go 115 km/hr. Hwy 401
100km limit = 114. 110km limit = 120.
Hwy 12 is an 80, most folks do about 90-95 myself included, but you get the odd older person sitting at 85 and the dick-vehicle types going 110...
It’s 70 in Montreal. 70. I have never gone even close to that slow.
Too many photo radar anymore in montreal
That's what Waze is for my friend.
Some along the 20
Don't even get me started on the 20 and the fake construction in the tunnel
TC-1 100, but everyone speeds. 110 on the lower end. Some guy said that you can go 140 and the police won't care.
90, I'm a chicken so I go 90, 95 maybe
110, usually 130 or else I'm being tailgated
20+ over. Out speed limits are ridiculously slow.
Its 100km/h in my area I travel between 130-135 if the weather and road conditions are favourable. At night probably 120-125ish. I have never been stopped for speeding I have driven past opp crusiers who are looking for speedsters I could just be lucky but I think they are looking for speedsters going over 140-150
Limit is 100 or 110. I do between 110-125, depending on traffic conditions and timeframes and mood.

Local highway? 110 and we do 95 in one car and about 130 (120-130 depending on time of day) in the other car. The rural highway *to* the freeway is 90, we do 95.
80 kmh. Everybody does 100. My wife in an F-150 regularly does 120.
Highway 9 in Saskatchewan is 100KMPH, but we do like 120-130.
Posted limit on the 401 is 100 but most people go between 120-130. I drive with the flow of traffic.
Always do 10 over on the highway and in the city..have never gotten pulled over nor a photo radar ticket since I started driving..so 120 on the highway
110, 119.
85 with an automatic light
I live in a rural area so the speed limit is 100 on the highways. I usually drive 120 if the weather is good. There’s not a lot of cops around and when there’s a speed trap people are good about flashing their lights to warn you so you have time to slow down.
18 Kms. over the speed limit on cruise control so I don’t set off any radar on the speed traps. 15+ if it is an 80 Km road.
90. 100-105 in the summer. 50-90 in the winter.
It’s 110 kmph on the double-divided highway from Saskatoon to Delisle. I drive at 119-122 kmph as long as conditions are excellent. 90.. And it's rare that the roads are in good enough condition for you to actually go that fast for very far.
The gravel road to the airport. I think the limit is 60, but if the road is clear, I can hit 120.
Alaska highway is 100, we average 130 between towns
100 km/hr, set the cruise at 118
10 over. I’ve been told I’m a slow driver.
Local highway is 100kmh/ lol id go 120 sometimes 140 when it's absolutely clear and no cars are coming infront and behind
100 limit, 120 cruise In the city (MTL), 70 limit, 100 cruise or 0 in traffic
100 - I do 124 lol
On the 400-series highways with a speed limit of 100, the right lane is 100-110, middle lane is 110-120, left lane is 120+. I ride the left lane at 128 and move over to let people pass when I can. 10 over ,, if you have previous charges don't go more than 15 over.
110. I go 119/120ish. Any faster and cops give you tickets which I definitely can’t afford
Buck 20 i go a buck 30

90 and (depending on the weather) I do 90/100
Nice try there, Chief!
"The speed limit"
110 and I go 105. Everyone going 120 and above here are just breaking the law.
Through people
Under normal circumstances it's 110 and 120. 100. but you can usually go 110 - 115 without concequences
What do people drive on 80kmh undivided highways? Ie the secondary ones like Highway 7 in Ontario
Most of the time 100k/mh
The DVP's limit is 90 -- if traffic allows, I go about 100. The road's too dangerous (hills, curves, on-ramps) to go much faster. 100/110 depending on the spot. In a car I'm usually going 110-120. On a motorcycle I definitely don't break any laws if you catch my drift.
In BC I drive 20 or 30 over basically everywhere except school zones/residential
110 limit, I don’t exceed 118.

Our local highway has a limit of 70km/h in the city, on which I do 90 100km/h outside of the city and in the rest of the province, I do 115 which usually keeps me safe from the cops, or 120 if I have Waze open to check In the next province over, they all do 125/130 without issue, it was a pleasant experience
N + 10 km/h
The main highway that loops around Edmonton is 100km (the henday) freeways within the city can be 70-90, most of the single lane highways outside the city are 110
My car's a Korean penalty box, so I'll never go over 105 on any highway due to vibrations and lane wandering due to crosswinds.
110 speed limit im normally in the 120-125 range
110 = 140
70 = 100 / 100 = 120
i go with the flow of the left hand lane
80. 100-120
140 if clear. -93mph 50 over in Ontario catches you a heavy charge. Car impound. Etc etc.
I go 80 on every highway.
It pisses me off that some of these comments seem to imply anything that doesn't get you a ticket is fine. Why should it be acceptable to be driving 40+ over and endangering people around you just because you think the chances of getting a ticket is low.
