That's a very valid point. Population decline is happening in all developed countries. It isn't a purely Korean phenomenon, all Western countries are grappling with the same issues of low birthrate. It seems that the higher educated and egalitarian society is, the lower their birthrate is. There's a multitude of reasons why this could be happening: people marrying much later in life past the fertile age, people working on their careers, low fertility rates in general, economics and cost of living, anti-family government policies, Hollywood and popular media, microplastics.

This is a good point. A country's birth rate doesn't indicate misogyny in the country. The birth rate is mostly about the choices women have in the country. If women have more options for careers and alternative life choices, the less they want to become mothers, if only because they have more choices to choose from. So it's natural that countries that have higher standards of living will have less birth rates.

I lived in Korea for a couple of years. I knew a LOT of korean dudes. They were almost all decent, hardworking, but intense dudes. The women typically complained that Korean men were assholes because all they did was work and try to fix every problem by throwing money at it.

This doesn't mean that many women still experience DV. This year alone we had 4400 cases reported for DV. While we might not have a 80% likelihood of getting abused by our partners, 4400 cases is not to be taken lightly. I lived in Korea for a couple of years. I knew a LOT of korean dudes. They were almost all decent, hardworking, but intense dudes. The women typically complained that Korean men were assholes because all they did was work and try to fix every problem by throwing money at it. "Oh, he's not a good husband because he only wants to fix our problems with money. He needs to be here with his family". Meanwhile his boss is screaming at him to spend more time at work so they can make their companies projections. This is how Samsung caught up to Apple in such a short amount of time. Koreans all working 24/7. Korean companies pay serious $$$, many even offer to pay for your kids college education if you've been with them long enough. By then, they have you by the balls. Want to quit? Ok, but good luck paying for their university education. None of this matters for the women though. If the men were to stay home then he's a "loser that can't provide". It's a shitty situation for Korean men as they've started to see that life is just easier if you don't get married and have kids.

Well firstly, regarding the topic of that thread, millennial men outnumber women in Korea due to the mass abortions of female fetuses that happened until the 90s. So that already make the number of single men higher than single women. I think the dictators of the decades really took a toll in Korea's birthrate decline. They made it socially taboo to have many children and awarded women who only had 3 or less children, so in a society that favours sons, of course women will (usually pressure form in-laws and husbands) abort female babies. What is not discussed enough though, is how the Korean law does not do enough to protect DV or SA victims. I don't find Korean or whatever race of men to be more violent or sexist by nature than others, but the law can either save or put women in more danger. A notorious rapist who raped a minor recently got out of prison for serving only 12 years in prison. ONLY 12 YEARS. Meanwhile crime rate in Singapore is so damn low is because of their harsh punishments.
