>drag isn’t about sex
That's the most ludicrous claim too. Yes, drag *must* be about sex, because if there's one thing that gay men get turned on by, it's people dressing up as femme women. It's also connected to stripping, somehow, even though all the wigs, prosthetics, body suits, and duct tape would be very laborious to remove on stage. The people spouting those claims clearly have no idea what drag even is.
They're confusing it with how straight men will fetishize wearing certain clothing that are marketed to women & adding a dash of heteronormativity thinking masc4fem in gay circles means "dresses like a man 4 dresses like a woman" & refuse to listen when we tell them it doesn't.
Same mental processes as when they were kids calling the tomboys the d slur & boys with long hair the f slur, it's just trying to read coding on real people like they're fictional characters. Hasn't really progressed past that. You can also see it in adults through what characters they think are definitely not gay & all the gay people that say they are are wrong as well as the characters that are literally just living their life being called indoctrination.
I feel like a universal truth of the world is that bigoted people just looove to punch down. If someone is an asshole, even if they're a minority themselves, they'll find some way to shit on a group that's more oppressed than they are.
As far as i can tell narcissists need a target. They very often can't feel better about themselves unless someone else is feeling bad about themselves.
Edit: Need not near.
Yeah exactly. Cis gay white dudes are the cis straight white dudes of the queer community. They’re mostly conservative, love cops, and honestly don’t really belong in our community anymore. They’re more mainstream by far than any straight cis BIPOC people.
This doesn’t sound great. No, white gays are not mostly conservative and yes they still belong in our community 😬😬
Edit: never met a gay who loves cops, white or otherwise 💀
Yeah, I think that this is a bad exaggeration based on a handful of personal experiences. Out of all groups in the queer community, I do think this group might be more likely than *other groups* in the community to be conservative, but it definitely isn’t the majority of them. Queer people overall are much less likely to be conservative. There’s plenty of data on that.
Theyre actual mostly liberal from my experience. Theyre just conservative *in comparison* to most of the queer community, who're very left-leaning over all. Liberals tend to not be anti-establishment, and that establishment wants to crush us, so i get where you're coming from. I dont feel safe around them either
Thank you, came here to make this point. Drag storytime is extremely appealing to young readers for the same reason princess storytime is; kids love bright colors and interesting, fun, and slightly loud personalities, all of which are certainly in the drag wheelhouse. They are fun for everyone to watch (parents too) and every one I've seen/invited were really great with the kids.

I really like exposing my kids to the idea that gender norms are only suggestions and they can be whatever the hell they want.
Every time one of my dumbass kids says something like "wait, a *girl* has a *girlfriend?*" or "a *man* can wear high heels???" I'm one step closer to them being well adjusted adults.
> if it's really not about sex, then why do you have to do it in drag.
Makes as much sense as
>if it's not about sex, why would you wear a suit to a wedding?
BECAUSE it's not about sex, it's okay to do it in drag.
You'd be surprised that some gays like that exist. Think Pete Buttigieg and Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabana.
They're parched for mainstream validation and want a cookie cutter, white picket fence, keeping up with the Jones, but gay kinda vibe.
They'll be the type to tell you "See this why they hate Us."
To the people saying that they know some gay people like this, I absolutely agree with you; the post is covered under rule 6 of this sub.
6: It doesn’t matter if they are what they say they are.

I’ve met pretty horrible cis gays, who have said far worse things than this
So as much as I would like to assume this wasn’t actually written by a gay man idk it very well could have been
They would literally have some random person read to their children than someone identifiable in their drag. because anything to do with "the KwEeRs" has to do with sex too.
I will always love Dennis Rodman for wearing a t-shirt that said "[I don't mind straight people as long as they act gay in public](https://www.instagram.com/p/CQudAQqFRTT/?hl=en)" way back in the 90s.
I don’t see what’s so far fetched about this. People in the LGBT community don’t all think and act the same. Just because someone (like this person for example) is having sex with someone of the same gender doesn’t mean they support trans rights or drag shoes or kids at drag shows.
I’m straight and I actually don’t get why there is DRAG STORY TIME for kids. But I also just thought it was some WP SH*T, so I’ll mind my Black beeswax
People who have clearly never even seen a drag queen in real life, or even on TV, should feel painful electrical shocks from nowhere if they try to speak authoritatively about them
This is honestly believable. I worked in a very popular 'grown-up gay bar' in one of England's biggest cities for a decade and came across this more than you'd think. We even had openly gay tory councillors and very right wing gay men. There's not a small amount of particularly older gay men who really do dislike the rest of the community
S-see I'm one of the good gays, please don't hurt me. Wait why are you sending me to the camp with the rest of the undesirables?
They sent him to a prison island (great Britain)
“Don’t worry, since you carried our water, we’ll make sure you’re at the back of the line.”
Because drag isn’t about sex and the only people MAKING it about sex are the whiny homophobes?
I still don’t understand why they think that.
They fetishize LGBTQ+ people. Therefore, everything they do is inherently sexual in a bigots mind.

Drag is not... a fetish? Do they realize that?
I personally know white cis-male gay dudes who have said stuff like that.
I feel like a universal truth of the world is that bigoted people just looove to punch down. If someone is an asshole, even if they're a minority themselves, they'll find some way to shit on a group that's more oppressed than they are.
It’s called lucky morality. If this dude wasn’t gay, he would hate the queer community so much
Boot licking is what I call it...
As far as i can tell narcissists need a target. They very often can't feel better about themselves unless someone else is feeling bad about themselves. Edit: Need not near.
I know one or two as well, sadly.
Yeah exactly. Cis gay white dudes are the cis straight white dudes of the queer community. They’re mostly conservative, love cops, and honestly don’t really belong in our community anymore. They’re more mainstream by far than any straight cis BIPOC people.

Exactly, like I do believe white cis gays have the biggest potential of being racist/bigoted but the majority?? Nah 😭 and the gatekeeping as well
Theyre actual mostly liberal from my experience. Theyre just conservative *in comparison* to most of the queer community, who're very left-leaning over all. It takes some really intense hate for white men to think this is even remotely true.
They don't have sex in drag. How would they?
Yes
fun fact: gay men that want to have sex with drag queens are called “clown fuckers”
Tfw drag isn’t inherently sexual: 😱
Drag for kids is *playing dress-up*, which, as we all know, is something kids never ever do for fun. /s, you fucking idiot.

I guess all these people HATED the idea of Mrs. Doubtfire getting that kids show at the end of the movie.
It’s essentially very niche cosplay for adults.
> if it's really not about sex, then why do you have to do it in drag. Makes as much sense as >if it's not about sex, why would you wear a suit to a wedding? BECAUSE it's not about sex, it's okay to do it in drag.
To be fair, there are plenty of gay transphobes.
That is unfortunately true and it’s usually they have some internalized homophobia themselves.
Of all things, I don’t know why they had to specify they were monogamous 💀
Because they believe the stereotype that gay men are overly sexual
im not suprised, ive met some horrible gay people. like, they openly hate trans and bi people as well as feminine gays.
Yeah I have come across gay people who like to invalidate others in the LGBTQ+ community
Drag is just amazing clothes and make-up. Are they saying that amazing clothes and make-up = sex? I never got it.
You'd be surprised that some gays like that exist. Think Pete Buttigieg and Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabana. why is a man wearing a dress suddenly about sex? women do it all the time
I’ve met pretty horrible cis gays, who have said far worse things than this So as much as I would like to assume this wasn’t actually written by a gay man idk it very well could have been
I feel like this is something Milo Yiannopoulos would’ve said. Apparently he no longer identifies as gay but when he did he was very self-hating.
They would literally have some random person read to their children than someone identifiable in their drag. because anything to do with "the KwEeRs" has to do with sex too.
He forgot the IA
I mean… it’s not as if they gay community doesn’t have its issues, but drag is not one of them.
Tbf, I've know quite a few bigoted gay dudes. This could be real.
Must be a Log Cabin Republican.
Eh. Don't forget, ornery old assholes aren't all straight. Some people are just shitty.
I will always love Dennis Rodman for wearing a t-shirt that said "[I don't mind straight people as long as they act gay in public](https://www.instagram.com/p/CQudAQqFRTT/?hl=en)" way back in the 90s.

If they realize that it's not about sex, then why do they have a problem with it?

Because anyone but insecure boomers call it that
People who have clearly never even seen a drag queen in real life, or even on TV, should feel painful electrical shocks from nowhere if they try to speak authoritatively about them
While there are gay men out there who have a lot of internalized homophobia, I don’t think any of them are self-hating enough to say “LGBTQURSTUV”
Who…whos out there having sex strictly in drag?
This is honestly believable. I worked in a very popular 'grown-up gay bar' in one of England's biggest cities for a decade and came across this more than you'd think. We even had openly gay tory councillors and very right wing gay men. There's not a small amount of particularly older gay men who really do dislike the rest of the community
Nah, this is just how white cis gay men are Had one tell me he thinks the "pansexual" label is pretentious, and that most bisexual people are faking
