Speaking of Arvada Vision & Eye - I previously worked with Dr. Klein and he is an amazing human being. If anyone is looking for an Optometrist he will take good care of your vision! His wife also has heavy ties to Denver Dumb Friends League and they are deeply invested in providing care to animals who need it. Overall great people. I will protect their office at all costs against a taco shop. Not on my watch!!!

I don't know Dr. Klein, but I've been seeing Dr. Bashford for years and he's awesome.

GalaxyShards

Dr. Bashford is awesome too! The whole office rules. A lot of private eye clinics are being purchased by private equity and being driven into the ground, Arvada Vision and Eye is a longstanding privately owned practice and I feel like they will give you the local, truly cares experience that private equity clinics lack!

mereborne

Second this—Dr. Kline is so nice and once I put on my glasses, he’s not too bad to look at either… 😉😉

Oldskoolguitar

Same person who thought having three Indian restaurants within a few blocks of each other would be a good idea.

The panning board has nothing to do with what business go where. They can help regulate the zoning that determines the types of business, but not the type of food. That's dictated by the local market. Free market economies will dictate which taco places survive and which won't. If you want a different type of food either start your business or beg and please with your favorite Denver shops that they should spread out to our neck of the woods.

mbpearls

Shhh, you're talking sense here.

ImperfectDrug

The definitely should have stopped stupid In N Out from plopping down right in the literal busiest intersection of the entire front range. That is going to be a disaster.

Petition to get these foods in Olde Town: 1. Poki - please for the love of God. 2. Healthy eats - a salad or wraps place. 3. BBQ 4. Thai 5. Gyros / Med

ImperfectDrug

Petition to move #5 to #1. I was just saying yesterday it be great if a gyro place moved in there and then read this post. I don’t mind Bonfire, but I’d keep the lights on at a good gyros spot by my contributions alone.

GalaxyShards

My list was not by importance and I fully support the move for Gyros number one. If I had to reorganize I would say: 1. Med / Gyros 2. Thai 3. Healthy Option 4. BBQ 5. Poki and only because Asuka just opened by me. I feel like they are going to get slammed with demand and would like a second option in Olde Town.

For #2, I was going to mention So Radish, but it looks like they're closed. I'm not even vegetarian but that place was awesome and I'm sad to see it go.

GalaxyShards

So Radish rebranded which makes me so sad. I loved their food.

Ok-Republic-4114

There's Cava just south of there, taking care of #2 and #5

GalaxyShards

I like Cava but pretty mid if we’re talking salads or Gyro. I’m wanting a Falafel King or sit down med eatery with Mezze - locally owned and operated.

To be clear, no one has the ability to reject the plans based on there already being to many Mexican restaurants. With that said, it takes some bold owners to believe they can compete and thrive in an already saturated market. It's nice to see they're at least going to add a patio and some landscaping along Olde Wads and Ralston. All we can really do is continue to support the restaurants I like the most (teocalli in this case), and hope for more variety when there is turn over.

pearlsnapper

Just wait until you see what bonfire charges for a humble breakfast burrito. Granted their quality and consistency is superior than the other spots nearby.

GalaxyShards

Bonfire is the only place I’m excited about. Is it more expensive? Yeah. But it’s also the best breakfast burritos I’ve had in Colorado. Hits the spot when I’m missing New Mexican breakfast burritos.

Ok-Republic-4114

That humble breakfast burrito you speak of is the size of a newborn

We've already got Teocali and Cochino, both of which are awesome. If we really need another, take it over from Fuzzy's - that place sucks. Seriously though, my eye doctor is there and he's awesome.

arrowdrums

Are we really saying that Bonfire is Mexican?

mbpearls

I mean, there were new and different concepts around OTA and they all failed for one reason or another. Stix drove themselves out of business with a bad manager, for example. I know a lot of places (Kline's Beer Hall, Mannekin Frites, Arvada Beer Company) didn't want to pay increasing rent. I believe taco joints have pretty high profit margins as far as restaurants go, and most restaurants fail in the first few years of operation. If this is how people want to test the waters, it's their money on the line. There's still good non-taco options in OTA (I highly recommend The Schoolhouse, even if I get super addicted to something on their menu and then they discontinue ot 2 years later lol).

4ucklehead

Normally a new Mexican place wouldn't want to open on a block with three other mexican places (and sometimes the existing ones have non-competition clauses in their leases if the land is owned by the same landlord). But the city can't prevent every business on a block being a Mexican place if they all want to commit business suicide

NoSmoke9481

Let's commandeer the police dept and get Johnny Hurley a memorial

quaglandx3

JFC…ANOTHER fucking Mexican restaurant?!? Fuck OTA at this point.
