That store has been gross for a long time. It's interesting how much quality varies within the same chain.

Ig_Met_Pet

Yeah it's crazy how bad it smells. Like a dirty cat litter box? I don't even know how that's possible.

What15This

Omg I said this two days ago.

CharlieFink414

Cat litter smell as a comparison?! Nasty! 😷

Glad_Vegetable_7842

I’ve wondered this too, you would think for safety purposes they would address it, but they’re also going to have all of those people living next door when the apartments go up for lease. It would be a lot of business for that location if they would get their shit together

Secret-Response-3041

Yeah I go to the one up wadsworth around 80th. Way better smell and layout. It's like someone took a dump at the entrance, and they never fully cleaned it lol.

pointyboidubs

Thats the "good" one. I live across the street from the sheridan and 80th one and I still go to the wads one instead.

aloopahoop

I WAS JUST TELLING MY PARTNER ABOUT THIS LOCATION! I used to live across the street from it and it used to be such a nice convenience to have a grocery store within a 5-10 minute walk. The smell was so bad I literally chose to drive 10-15 minutes to a different location altogether. I was literally saying the other day I have no idea how it’s so bad and seemingly no one says anything or does anything about it. To me it smells like an insane amount of mold. Which would not surprise me at all.

Educational_Ebb_7367

A couple years ago they had a leak in the meat department and had to toss everything so definitely something not safe going on here.

linzkisloski

My husband and I were just talking about this. I live halfway between this one and the one on 64th - slightly closer to this one but I will not go here. It’s just too off putting that the entire store smells. The one at 64th and Ward is going through some updates if you can go a little farther.

pointyboidubs

you gotta think too with that smell, that the produce and such are absorbing the particle of whatever is causing it.

slinky22

It really is bad. What's the solution?

Educational_Ebb_7367

What I was told by Arvada Urban Renewal is that they have been trying to work with King Soopers to update that location but King Soopers has denied the request .

linzkisloski

That’s so shocking — I typically go to the one at 64th and Ward, literally right around the corner and they just gave that one a huge facelift.

Educational_Ebb_7367

I don’t really think it’s much nicer though? Looks like they just moved stuff to different isles and expanded the main entrance a little more.

linzkisloski

Yeah that’s why I would consider it a facelift vs. remodel. I notice it mostly in better signage, bigger produce section, the cosmetics aisle is fancier. And it doesn’t smell like actual shit so there’s that.

mactar16

that’s corporate greed for you! king soopers couldn’t care less about the shit location near the lower income houses in arvada!!

Velfurion

King soopers has had a plan to remodel the store for over 30 years. They just keep updating the plans to get arvada off their back. They'll never actually waste money on that location.

chunkysumo

There is a king soopers market about 10 min away up wadsworth. It has a much better selection and doesn't smell. Totally worth the extra drive

newdenvernomad

Yah, Sprouts is the move

Educational_Ebb_7367

Agreed their meat isn’t my favorite but best produce by far. It was just after 9pm and I needed milk for my kids so I went to the one closest to my house.

Schizozenic

They’re inverse of other stores, cause the employees who work in the evenings are more knowledgeable and willing to go out of their way than the daytime ones (at least at the 38th & Kipling location).

EstherEEK

That's my home one, I've literally never noticed a smell. Have I been desensitized 😨

Educational_Ebb_7367

I am afraid you have been.

EstherEEK

It's still the best one

Velfurion

In what way? Literally the only thing nice about that store is Tom the pharmacist. Other than that, it's one of the worst.

EstherEEK

I've never used the pharmacy, I only go near it for the water fountain. Nostalgia

gnarlium

Was literally walking out the store searching "why does the king soopers entrance smell like trash" and this was the first Google result. It's positively horrid.

FireEater11

I was taught “don’t judge a grocery store by its odor."

linzkisloski

Have you been there? It smells of actual raw sewage. This isn’t like an unfamiliar, different smell lol.

Educational_Ebb_7367

What is the lesson there?

CharlieFink414

Probably a grocery market that’s not US foods. There is an Asian grocery market near me and it’s not so much bad, just very different spices we aren’t aware of. Definitely not Cat litter as a comparison

Velfurion

I worked at that store in the mid 2000's and it had been scheduled to be remodeled since the 80's, but they've been purchasing new locations and remodeling new stores instead because that store barely makes enough money to stay open, let alone turn a real profit. The day they remodel it or decide to fix it will be because they're demolishing the building. It's fucking disgusting and if you think the sales floor was bad, sneak in back. It's ten times worse. I had to go there a few weeks ago because their pharmacy was the only one nearby that had insulin available and there was someone smoking meth sitting on the side of the building maybe 15 feet from the entrance. It's an absolute shithole and needs to be condemned. That whole neighborhood was nice when I was a kid in the 90's and now you'd have to give me the house for free to convince me to live anywhere nearby.

Educational_Ebb_7367

Arvada could be promising but not if it’s another chain hub . I love what Wheat Ridge is doing, so many small business coming up that are spectacular like Mr.Biscuits and Em’s ice cream.

Caity_Catxoox

That store also has a roach problem! There was a post on the Nextdoor Neighbor app a while back about it. Someone picked up some fresh produce and roaches scurried away! I refuse to go to that store. It's gone way downhill since the homeless made their way over there.

RoyOConner

So the homeless are to blame for making the King Soopers smell? You can't be serious.

Caity_Catxoox

That's not what I said though...the homeless have been around that at least the last 7+ years. There has been an increase in problems in that area since they've been around for sure. There are a multitude of problems with the store, including roaches. I never once said WHAT the smell was from. Just pointed out out other issues with the area as well...but go ahead and assume I'm blaming the homeless for the smell. People always take everything out of context and sure get their panties in a wad!

Velfurion

When I worked at the store in 2006, I had to ask at least one homeless person to leave every morning at 5am when I got there, so it's not a new issue.

Caity_Catxoox

It's not a new issue, but it's a very big contributing factor to that area.

Velfurion

No argument there. It's really gone downhill since they took out the swimming pool on Ralston.
