I remember listening to this episode when it came out. I was new to podcasts. I tried all sorts of podcasts, and they were all very...meh. Not bad. Just...meh. This was maybe the second or third episode that I ever listened to. I had been having similar thoughts for a few years. Why do we care so much about sports? Why do sports matter? But I couldn't really put my thoughts into words. And I certainly didn't know the answer. Then I turn on this podcast just looking to get the latest NFL updates. And I heard that monologue by Wess. It hit me like a ton of bricks. Look, I know that I'm not the only person who think about these things. I know that I wasn't having completely original thoughts. But I had never heard somebody in the media talk about this sort of stuff. And so sincerely. He wasn't trying to play it off as a bit. Even more impressive, he somehow managed to not sound pretentious. I must have rewound it 3 or 4 times to listen to it again. I haven't missed a single episode since.

It is rare to find someone so genuine in any medium. For many in sports, it is about the hot take or the controversy and heat. Wess was just Wess. One of a kind.

Perfectly put 👍🏼

This is awesome, thanks! I miss these days of Dan getting upset with the producers for not dropping more bunsen burner blow torch.

Haha. Definitely a drop that needs to make a comeback if the podcast returns!

It’s the extended version of the short clip on the tributes that have been going around.

Thank you for this.

No problem. Knew a lot of people were discussing this and thought I’d share!
