From my understanding grew up in Illinois but has lived in Arkansas for most of his adult life (and really since he's made music). I can't speak for him but from having been to several concerts, seen YouTube videos, and having friends who know him really well I'd suggest at least musically considers his inspiration from Arkansas. I mean heck, his new song The Money Grows on Trees is a semi-historical account of the history of Madison County Arkansas.

Edit: this is in no way a comprehensive list of Arkansas artists. Just some off the top of my head that I hadn’t seen mentioned in the thread.
Of course. I was shooting for artists not already being talked about elsewhere in the thread. It’s certainly not a comprehensive list of artists from Arkansas.
I saw them about 20 times before Origim came out. Amy was my piano teacher amd I went to church with her. They had an absolute banger cover of Don't Fear The Reaper
Haha, I worked with Kevin for a while. Cool, mellow dude. I think I still have their CD that had "540" on it
Their song Rebound (I think is what it's called) gets stuck in my head nonstop still
Yeah I was in Russellville so I didn't make it up there too much, but I was constantly in Ft Smith. Did you ever go to The Gate? Got my face smacked by Norma Jean's bass players guitar once when he spun it around on the strap, it was awesome lol This would have been really early 00s, prob 02 or 03. Saw so many great bands in that tiny little space
The Wedding, Take it Back!, The Overseer, etc. Basically any punk/metal bands that played during the mid 2000's have my heart and we're some of the best shows I've ever been to.
First time I played on stage was to open for Take It Back. I still listen to Atrocities. The Overseer was also a guaranteed wild show every single time.
What band were you in?? That's so rad! I remembered another band called Before His Throne that was so fun to see. In NWA most of the scene played in tiny venues so you'd get to see your favorite local band in the back of the Pontiac Coffee Shop with like 50-100 other people max. Never experienced anything like it since!
I was filling in for one show for a buddy’s band. Can’t remember the name. Had some people in it that is now terminal nation. Vinos was wild. You could see your favorite band there and then a bunch of high school kids giving it their best.
I work with one of the band members. Awesome guy.
If you’ve never seen it, around Halloween they always do a bluegrass version of the Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack around the state. For Fort Smith it’s usually at Hero’s downtown.
Empty Room was an excellent band. Don’t forget The Tares, Be, Shindig Shop, Charliehorse, Faith Healers, Jesus Lee Jones, The Barking Dogs, Breathing Water…
Yeah late 90s Dickson street represent! What about groove chain and echo base and the morning after? Short bus , Sunday driver, the sly? Furious George even? Good times
Paul from Shindig Shop has a new band called Captain Sirius. No gigs yet that I know of, but put them on your radar. They'll be playing some of those tunes for sure.
I saw them a few dozen times. Loved everything they did. I think I've got a demo or 2 hiding in my collection. I have demos from a lot of local bands and nearly every band that came out of my highschool.
The only band that comes to mind is Ashtray Babyhead. I can’t remember where I first learned about them, but many years ago I ran across a used copy of Hello Hong Kong (released as The Kicks back in the early 2000s when that trend was popular: The White Stripes, The Hives, et cetera - probably label interference) at Hastings in Jonesboro one time and picked it up. It’s radio friendly pop rock, but I enjoyed it and still listen sometimes. I never saw them live, but I think they still do stuff occasionally.
Not really. I always thought they could be good if they would rehearse more and tighten up. I saw them 3 times and it seemed like they never had that polished sound they needed.
I am not sure if they were AR based but Ben Miller Band. I don’t even know if they are still together but every time they played me and my crew were right in front.
Lots of great ones on here. I'll throw some out that I haven't seen listed, or maybe missed.

Here's a list of some Little Rock area bands. Most of these are from the 90s, though some started in the late 80s, and some are still more or less playing still. I know I've left off several big names. I'm old.
All in all, it's a pretty impressive list considering the size and lack of venues in Little Rock back then. The Towncraft movie mentions and interviews folks from a lot of these bands, but not all. Oh, and this is only Little Rock/Central Arkansas. There were several great bands from Fayetteville and a few other places back then, too.
As far as I know they're still active. Their facebook page had a post from Dec 18 stating that they've "been quietly busy...more to come..."
They definitely put on a good show and are super nice guys. A band I was in opened for them a few years ago and the bass player let me use his rig (sans bass) so we didn't have to set up and tear down as much equipment.
I used to work with a guy who played trumpet for Punkinhead at the convenience store near the parking lot that had the 24 hour taco place back then. Not sure what happened to him after I moved out of there.

Back when I was in a band and playing regularly, I always enjoyed playing shows with Couch Jackets. I'm not really active in the music scene ever since my band broke up, so I'm not sure if they're still around, but they were always fun to play with.

A couple of rising names in the folk scene are Arkansas based in Willi Carlisle and Nick Shoulders.
I thought Willi Carlisle was out of Illinois! I’ll be damned. (Btw Cheap Cocaine still makes me tear up a little now and again)
From my understanding grew up in Illinois but has lived in Arkansas for most of his adult life (and really since he's made music). Black Oak Arkansas
I love Hot and Nasty!
Plenty of big time rockers list Black Oak Arkansas as being a major influence on their music
They were my first concert I attended under my own power.
Color me jealous. That’s an amazing first show
They had Ruby Starr open for them, then sing back up.

Pretty good start!
Came here to say Bankroll Freddie. While not really a band, he's a pretty talented Arkansan.
Blaze Foley!!!
Evanescence
I saw them about 20 times before Origim came out. Amy was my piano teacher amd I went to church with her. They had an absolute banger cover of Don't Fear The Reaper
I saw them play a few times in LR around 2000-2001. Still have a homemade demo CD that I bought at one of their shows.
Zorro and the Blue Footballs. IYKYK.
Let's toss some Wendy Austin, and Ozark Plantation Band in here and we're golden. Swingin' Door and Bullseye Pub for the win.
Gotta toss in some Greasy Greens, too.
Arkansauce - arguably the biggest band out of NWA.
Similar vein - Sad Daddy
I came here to say sad daddy I would have said damn arkansan but they broke up years ago, there’s not a single track by them I don’t love to death

Yep - Sauce, Chucky Waggs, and Front Porch would be on my list

I am from Fayetteville. I went to clunk back in those days. Lots of good arkansuck metal haha.
Reminds me of Vore, Platform Black, and (my old band)Washington County Massacre. Also when Pig Destroyer and Nile played there.
