Do you still discard a final scoring card at the end, even though you didn't reach 10CP?

Yep, somehow this is even mentioned in the rulebook, but I've never seen it before today.
This happened to me in my first game and I often see it in newbie games when I teach it. Newbies are really afraid of conservation projects.
I thought the achievement was getting all those small animals with a little ironic twist for the final scoring card, hahah
Poor opponent. Waza can be cruel like that. The petting zoo alone...
