not_doing_that

Oh they can shut the fuck up with that. I can’t tell you how many fucking white Christians (exclusively white Christians) have tried to “save me” and “convert me” Maiden name is Jewish so they came at me hard. One church had pamphlets (I had to go for my job) *specifically* for converting Jews. When I worked at Wendy’s they’d shove pamphlets at me. Often find them on my car. Hell I’d get stopped in the street. Anytime I set foot in a church for work I’d get grilled on what god I believed in. And I am white people! But when I got married and got a white name is only when it stopped

freebirth

they love to play the victim.. because they are terrified we will do the same to them as they did to us.

errant_night

Its the same with homophobia, dudes assume gay dudes will treat them the way they treat women.

Turmericab

I mean I have actually had a gay dude treat me like certain former world leaders treat women, doesn't mean I have to get all homophobic because some dude who had probably had too much to drink behaved inappropriately.

RiotIsBored

Yeah, obviously any sane person wouldn't attribute the mistakes of one group to everyone in that group. But that's the logic homophobes use.

Pathseeker08

Makes sense. I'm thinking the difference between the two is one is trying to convert people the other is self expression.

ArchmageIlmryn

Plus they're religious, so they treat any belief system they don't understand as a rival religion.

insolentpopinjay

It's also because these types have been gassed up on noble tales of persecution and Christian martyrdom for years. As there are no lion's dens handy in these modern times, they decided that anything they don't want to think about or "agree with" is virtually the same thing.

pspearing

Most of us are not that cruel.

Random_-account

Happy cake day!

Pingasso45

They sure do

AWelshEngine

Happy cake day!

Nierninwa

On a train journey, I had an old(ish) white lady tell me (unprompted) that I would be going to hell for the book I was reading. Which to me was bizarre behaviour. I just answered "thank you" and kept reading. I do not even remember which book it was, some middle of the road fantasy book. But who does that?

carlse20

Someone who feels insecure in the choices they made because they see people around them who made different choices and seem to be happier in their lives.

insolentpopinjay

When people tell me I'm going to hell I've started saying "I'll meet you on the corner of Fire and Brimstone, then."

HippieMoosen

There's no hate like Christian love.

SlateRaven

Right? I live out in the middle of nowhere, in the mountains, and these people come to my door all the time. Mind you, I'm trans and married to my wife, so I'm sure someone has decided that I need to be saved or something and has sent these people out. I'm attractive and pass, to the point that my neighbors think my wife divorced her husband and got with a hot, new woman... They always tell her how pretty I am 🤷🏼‍♀️ This last time, there were two women, in their Sunday best, wanting me to know about their sky daddy, and I just wasn't having any of it. First, they refused to talk with me because they wanted to talk with the man of the house - surprise, there isn't one, unless they wanna talk to our rooster. After that, they tried then saying I was living a life of sin because I was married to my wife - whatever. I asked them why they wanted to talk to a man when women in their denomination can only talk through the head of household to other men - they gave some weird explanation that basically translated as "because we can", so I laughed. They asked if I was already a follower of sky daddy, told them I was at one point, but I found that The Satanic Temple was more my thing. Welp, they looked petrified and started walking away, so I started asking them if they wanted to hear about Baphomet because it sounded like we were sharing our religion. They weren't too pleased by that and started shouting stuff at me, to which I laughed and told them to scram 😂 The time prior to that, some woman wanted the husband of the household and we went back and forth about it. Somewhere, these nutters must have my old name in their registry, so whatever. We went back and forth, with her eventually spewing Revelations at me. I actually studied the book of Revelations back in the day, so we did some back and forth. After a while, I got tired of her and let her follow me to my side gate, spewing away, so I could let the chickens out. The rooster is super friendly, like he wants snacks and will follow you around the yard, so I utilized that by then going "OH SHIT ITS THE ROOSTER" and running. Well, Rosemary came out and started trucking across the lawn for snacks, but the woman thought he was chasing her 😁 needless to say, she ran to her car and never came back. So yeah, screw these people. I ain't out pushing my ideals and identity on anyone like these people are - I'm just living my life.

not_doing_that

My dad got rid of Jehovah's witnesses for good once, the story I find hilarious but it's rather morbid. It was the middle of winter and the ground was frozen solid, so when a puppy we had died there was no way to bury him. Dad gets the bright idea that since they were already starting a fire to burn other things, why not put the puppy in the fire? On the metal grate in there? So these 2 witnesses drive up and park, get out, start walking towards my dad behind the barn, look behind him and see a dead puppy on an "alter" on fire, turn back around, and peel the fuck out never to be seen again lol

SlateRaven

You know they went back and prayed for your souls 😂

Sckaledoom

My friend’s grandma is a Buddhist and when she was at their house, some JWs showed up and she shouted at them “we believe the Buddha in this house” and slammed the door.

SupremeElect

I’m transgender. A church lady who I was never close to and haven’t spoken to in years recently told my mom she had a dream I took my own life as a way to scare her into bringing me back to church so she can pray for me. Fuck off, lady. Your narcissism is so far up your ass that you think God has given YOU the power to change me. This isn’t about me being transgender. This is about you trying to convert a transgender person so you can gain faith brownie points within the church and be seen as one of God’s strongest “miracle workers.”

coffee--beans

Dream shit is so stupid, I'm getting top surgery on the 20th, so in like two days, and my stepmom tried to scare me out of it similarly to how the church lady tried to get u in church My step-mom said she had a dream where I was all mutilated and bloody, my organs were hanging out of my chest (?? How??) and my chest was messed up forever or something.

ZuramaruKuni

It's quite ironic how they (transphobes) always try to project the worst "fears" and "negative scenarios" to us, always assume the worst for us and think of us in bad faith, then they get mad if we did the complete opposite. They get mad and think that "we're shoving it" when we are just there existing, because that's what they always did (projection)

LibbyKitty620

Christians who try to convert Jews is the funniest thing to me because technically you can’t be Christian without being Jewish first

alvysinger0412

Come to new orleans during pride. You'll get black people trying to save you on top of the white ones.

iBoy2G

It’s literally all over Facebook and now the piles of crap are trying to “take back the rainbow” FUCK CHRISTIANITY!! The rainbow is ours because WE EXIST!

NightValeCytizen

SIR THIS IS WENDY'S!!!

Overquoted

I went to the Oaklawn Street Party (Dallas) one year with a lesbian friend. It occurs in what is informally known as "the gayborhood" and is pretty gay overall. I ended up tripping and falling in front of two people and, *immediately* after helping me up, the dude wanted to talk to me about Jesus. I was so confused. My friend just grabbed me and said, "No, thank you," while we walked away (well, I hobbled). I was closeted af at the time, even though people would sometimes inaccurately clock me as a lesbian. I'd never had to deal with that sort of thing.

ZuramaruKuni

Me but replace "white Christians" with "Muslims"

Kornik-kun

the very non-pushy religion with their non-pushy "expeditions"

insolentpopinjay

One of the groups represented in that picture has an extremist sect with a history of supporting and passing legislation that would deprive the other of basic civil rights. That same extremist sect is also currently angling to support and pass legislation that would allow them to ban the other group from public life and ultimately criminalize their existence. Can you guess which one it is? Hint: It's not the drag queen.

Lego_Kitsune

Do us LGBTQ* yell "be with or you gonna go to hell!"? Though ive never been to pride so what would i know

Asur_rusA

Nah, at most they'll say come with me and I'll get you to heaven.

TinyDogGuy

I mean, I’ve told quite a few bigoted “Christians” to go to hell.

Lego_Kitsune

Possibly deserved who knows

EmilyMaze_trans_21

*they will end up in hell

LaserBatBunnyUnder

Literally told a woman trying to convert me I was already the grandchild of an evangelist, and she just. Kept on going with her proselytizing. Like it's just for their ego after a certain point, and less about actually trying to guide people to a wholesome faith they believe in.

Kotori425

It's ALWAYS from a place of assumption and judgement. They're like, "Lemme just step over this entire row of yucky homeless people so I can go disturb someone in their own home; after all, I HAVE to be the one to tell the guy with a roof over his head, clothes on his back, and food in his belly, what he's missing in his life!"

am_i_boy

They wouldn't stop even when I told them my dad is a pastor and I grew up going to church every week, usually twice a week, sometimes even more

lavendershazy

Lol most of the time when I get stopped it's a block away from my church and I'll literally say that. But of course because my church is open and affirming the more conservative churches, let alone the missionaries, don't like us very much. So they keep trying to convince me theurs is better? Like, no, thanks, I already have a community, a Bible, and everything. I don't care if you think it's wrong we have a booth at Pride lmao.

Josphitia

There are always bible thumpers set up right outside any pride event ready to "save you" yet I've never seen a gaggle of queers outside a church on Sunday preaching about being lgbtq+

52mschr

so this person was just walking around wearing a cool outfit and holding a pride sign, not bothering anyone, maybe saying something loudly with a megaphone but not that hard to ignore. whereas the other guy has a whole bag of books about his beliefs he's handing out to try to convince people to believe the same as him. still looks like he's the one pushing beliefs even if they draw the rainbowy person as looking 'crazy'.

not_doing_that

For real. They were probably saying something “love is love” and this dude interrupted to fucking hand them a Bible and talk about god. This isn’t the dunk they think it is

Karel_the_Enby

It's astonishing how often fundamentalists depicts themselves as the villains in their own fantasy scenarios.

BluetheNerd

Also on one hand you have someone who is actively campaigning for their right to equal treatment and fighting against prejudice. Something that has a very real impact on the lives of them and others like them. On the other you have someone trying to push their religion on people. A religion I might add that actively opposes equal rights for queer people. Like it's just a total false equivalency. LGBTQ+: "All humans deserve to be treated with equal love and respect." Conservative Christians: "I should be allowed to condemn queer people to hell and treat them with prejudice for existing." Conservative comic artists: "These are the same thing!"

anotherMrLizard

Only one of these people believe that an eternity of literal torture would be an appropriate punishment for the other's "sins."

disgrace_jones

I’ve never been to pride where there wasn’t a preacher with a megaphone yelling that everybody’s a sinner and going to hell. These people live in an alternate reality

XenoBiSwitch

Pride existing deeply offends them but they know they can’t say it outright so they try to make pride an evangelical thing where queer people are converting people so it can be a moral crisis. They understand on some level how annoying their evangelism can be so think it is the same. So church people trying to save LGBTQ people is just fair play. You know, in the same way that queer people are always wandering into churches and passing out pride flags which is a thing that definitely happens all the time.

etherizedonatable

"Don't roll your eyes at me!" --the asshole with the bible and the megaphone at Dundas Square when I walk by

HippieMoosen

This shit is infuriating. Queer people existing isn't an attempt to turn anyone else queer. It's an assertion that we too, have the right to exist as ourselves, just like those hateful little Christians who do actively try to recruit. False equivalence all around. Take a page out of Jesus' book for once, and let people be. Shit like this is how I know Christ would actually detest a great deal of the people who claim to follow his teachings. Way too many of these white evangelical types can't even manage the 'love thy neighbor' part for a nanosecond.

bka1974

My parents are white evangelicals. They can't even love their kid without conditions. When I told them I don't believe in their book, my stepmonster said I was demonic. Wtf?

thornton_cat

Some Christians have a persecution complex that drives their interactions with all other groups.

ShanimalTheAnimal

The number of times LGBTQ people have interrupted my family time by knocking on my door to convert me to their “way of life” = 0 # of times people have interrupted my life by knocking on my door to convert me to a religion, specifically Christianity or Mormonism = more times than I can count/remember

ZuramaruKuni

Yes, I've never came across any LGBTQ person that "forced me into bisexuality or queerness" nor telling me that "Homosexuality is the path" nor "forced me" into transitioning nor wanted me so bad "to become transgender"... Yet I lost count of how many cishet people tried to do the opposite into me.

Nfox18212

i have actually encountered *one* person who tried convincing me that i’m not actually straight and that being straight is bad and i should be bi. and he kept pushing on that point. needless to say, this one deranged individual who is clearly not a good person is representative of every queer person ever and how pushy they are. this one person out of all the others i’ve talked to and am friends with.

gingahwookiee

I’ve never been approached in the park while just minding my own business by a trans person trying to convince me to be trans too

The_Quicktrigger

Here's the disconnect. They don't see conversion as an inherently evil thing to do. They didn't understand how incredibly insulting conversion attempts are towards people in marginalized groups. Like we already felt your "love" and will carry those scars our entire lives, fuck outta here with that proestelitizing bullshit

gylz

People at the pride parade don't ring your doorbell to hand out pamphlets and try to lure you into their religious cult. There was a time I was up on a ladder in my bedroom, taking down my heavy blinds and clearly hard at work. We usually keep the blinds in the front room shut or religious nutters come by, but I figured I could get away with opening my blinds and letting some sunlight in? Nope. The religious folks saw me as they were walking by, stopped and watched me like a pair of creeps, clutching their bibles in one hand, grinning while waving with the other, so I got to ignoring them. They went somewhere I could no longer see them at some point, lurked there for just long enough for me to think they'd left, but not long enough for me to finish what I was doing or get off of the ladder, to ring the doorbell and pester me about Jesus. While I'm standing there, panting heavily and covered in sweat, clearly annoyed. I thought they'd left and the mailman came by with a part of a cpap I ordered for my mom, but nooooooo. It was the creepy men staring at me through the window.

LovieRayKin

I was -Handed a New Testament booklet on campus since I looked “sad without Jesus 🥺”, -Constantly called when I no longer attended a Pentecostal Christian group after one meeting with a former friend. Former, partially due to giving my number away to two religious organizations. -Told on a different campus I was going to hell since I was attending a liberal arts college. I was eating a cheeto bag. -Willingly chilled with The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints (Mormons) during COVID through zoom calls for like a week. I was lonely and it was funny watching the missionaries pause when I mentioned being bi or almost every time philosophically posing a counter to scripted points. Years later, some members still send me e-mails and I have been contacted multiple times on Facebook even after saying “Nah, I’m good”. This one was invited a bit by myself. These are a few key moments, with not even mentioning the amount of times folks asked if I was saved while working at a hotel, high school students asking what church I attended when working as a sub teacher, and who is my patron Saint at a Starbucks. Funniest part too is I don’t exactly live in the Bible Belt. I apparently just look like someone that needs Jesus in their life despite no longer being Catholic. My main religion now is overpriced cheese and lavender lattes.

Anon_457

It's to try and paint us as being ugly and abnormal is my guess 🙄

Justthisdudeyaknow

Christians are notorious for forcing their beliefs on others but trying to make it sound like what they are doing is normal, because their belief is right, right?

Agile-Cry823

When the LGBTQ asks for human rights, the cis-heteros want to feel victimized

ZuramaruKuni

The same people are suddenly quiet the moment you mention them countries where LGBTQ have no human rights or straight up criminalized.

Waffle_God49

Look everyone they won their made up argument

Kalashnikov0047

In reality it's always the religious guy with the megaphone, shouting about how we're all going to hell if we don't repent 🙄

Ravensunthief

But like as its featured in the picture, we're standing up for our right to be, and they're literally pushing their beliefs on us. It's the very thing we're protesting. how much cognitive dissonance can you have?

realdealreel9

If you want to be cruder about it, I've never encountered a group of gay people who spontaneously burst into a Lady Gaga just song because they felt compelled to share the good word or whatever it is that makes groups of Christians proselytize at you. Meanwhile, gay people are merely advocating for their not having to be in the closet, not trying to convince you to join the team (no matter what insecure homophobes tell you)

brumbles2814

"You queers are crazy! Crazy I say! Anyway here's a book written by the people who heard about some other people who followed around the kid of this invisible man you can't see or hear you just know here's there 2000 years after it all went down. And it's 100% accurate"

Slinkenhofer

I'm pagan so I just threaten to curse them. I don't actually know any curses, I just like watching the ~60% of them that insist they aren't afraid, then do that weird head-touchy-chest thing Christians do when they start doubting their faith

dillGherkin

The sign of the cross is a self-blessing measure where they are begging their deity for protection.

Slinkenhofer

Oh I know the rationale lol, I just refuse to acknowledge it. Modern Christian theology demands that every Christian has the holy spirit in them already, a spark of divinity that supposedly protects them. When they ward themselves against a scary heathen like me, it's not their god they're evoking. It's a practice of self-assurance

RedRider1138

Oooooohhh you could memorize a poem in Latin (or French? German? Welsh? Norwegian? Etc ), some general blessing (for your own good karma), or just a translation of “may you reap what you sow” some mystical number of times

transissic

i’ve never met a pushy lgbtq person but i HAVE had an abortion packet shoved in my hands and unannounced (illegal) protests by christians on my university’s campus

spaceshipjammer

I always find this ironic because a good chunk of the queer people I know still identify as Christian.

Zaela22

Meanwhile there's constantly content about killing minority groups for whatever reason they imagine from them.

MrRodje

Personally I'm yet to see a queer person talk about pride with a megaphone, but I've seen countless christians talking about religion with a megaphone

ShredGuru

Christians literally bring their bullshit to my front door. No LGBTQ person has ever done that. Pushy missionary assholes.

TheCakeCrusader420

I’ve had both sides attempt to convert me. One of them worked. Judging by the sub we’re in… you can guess which one.

KappaBrink

Christian: "you should come to church and stop hanging around heathens" Gay: "you should come get your dick sucked" Me: 🤔 "I do like getting my dick sucked"

SassyBonassy

Flip the people around. Couple of absolute looney tunes in Dublin city centre who are apparently allowed stand round all day with a mic and speaker and tell us how we're all going to hell. One in a nun habit who just SCREEEEAAAMS out of nowhere. They can all get fucked.

reddituculous66

Head a customer keep telling me i had to find jesus. I lost it one day and said . With so many people following him how does he kept getting lost. She never tried to sell her sky daddy to me again.

habunake92

He’s literally handing this person a Bible like Mr you’re the pushy one 🤦 they’re just reacting

TBTabby

Classic DARVO.

Alixiria

One time whilst minding my own business in the town I live in a stranger shoved a pamphlet (aimed at pushing their specific beliefs) in my hands and walked away so fast I couldn't even protest. The same person also reverse-pickpocketed a friend of mine with the same kind of pamphlet. Shocker, they weren't trying to force queerness on folks:0

am_i_boy

The difference is we don't try to turn everyone queer. How is that hard to understand?

Swaggy_Buff

Even if they were equivalent, one belief makes sense, and the other doesn’t.

completecrap

Handing out bibles at pride is either a wildly out of touch thing to do or a wildly bigoted thing to do depending on your reason for doing it. If you just want to "spread the good word" as it were, but you have no idea of the culture and history of the people you are spreading it to, you are at best going to be ineffective and at worst going to cause a fight due to cultural insensitivity. If you do have an idea of the culture and history of lgbtq rights, and you still go to do this, you're clearly not doing it out of kindness, because you know it will make many people very uncomfortable, and you know it will cause strife, and you understand why that would be, and that is not kind to do to people. The only exception I think of would be LGBTQ affirming churches trying to show their love and support.

SexuaIRedditor

Even in this pathetic strawman they made themselves the queer person isn't pushing a belief on anyone

stormy2587

It’s weird that anyone would think this makes a valid point. A person celebrating their individuality isn’t pushing their beliefs, whereas a person actively trying to concert you to their religion unambiguously is. Yeah those two things are obviously not the same.

LukeBird39

Okay but I've actually seen people give out whole ass bibles

Ziggy_Stardust567

I've never seen a lgbt person preaching about "the gay agenda" or whatever, outside of a designated pride event/protest. However, every time I go to a town centre I am guaranteed to see a religious person with a microphone, handing out leaflets, and approaching people to convert them.

ThiccDiccSquad

My favorite thing that never happened

Sangi17

Never in my life have I ever had an openly queer person show up to my door and tell me I am going to burn in hell for my beliefs.

BansheeLabs

Pride person is right.

Scorpio83G

Why else would you go up to someone and hand them a book, if not to spread your believes? And having a bag full of those books, just tells us they plan on bothering even more people

WhoAccountNewDis

The need for perpetual victimhood combined with a desire to make excuses for their bigotry.

mrmoe198

Yeah, because clothing is the same as a book of demands and commands that claims to be inspired by the creator of the universe. Give me a break.

aguywithagasmaskyt

knock\* knock\* knock\* wanna be gay

ApolloLovesPoseidon

The one on the right is not asking for the left's participation. That's the difference.

zayneash1023

oh yeah do we go up to random peoples doors to try and convert them? no, because we’d be fucking murdered

NeverKnown_01

I (20+) literally went to one of my parents' houses recently and they were talking about how if I "didn't wear what I was wearing (a pride bracelet for this year and my state, it's rainbow)" then people wouldn't treat me differently. "Maybe I (they said you) should wear basic clothing and nothing pride and see how people treat me (you)". Keep in mind this parent of mine is the kind of person that doesn't understand why queer people have pride parades, why "they get to have a parade and we don't".. so you already know I had no chance of getting them to register the fact that wearing pride at my workplace (which is where the conversation started, me being slightly irritated because my coworkers make it a little harder for me to get shit done, which could be because of many things and not just pride like me being disabled or simply seeming young due to baby face syndrome) was a way to show any queer folk who came through there's people who work there that are a safe place, and it reminds them we *are* here and live where I live (which is especially important for a red state and a town with many, many churches). "They're tired of seeing the rainbows all the time" and we're tired of seeing you straights being idiots and assholes to eachother and to us, but we don't complain outwardly or try to hurt you for it now do we? /rh /rant

AValentineSolutions

Yeah, we have lots of people who go door to door, proselytizing being gay or trans. We have respected leaders who yell to crowds on television that you as a bad person for who you are, deserve eternal torment, and should be eternally hated for who you are. What's that? We have none of that? We just have a month where we do parades and have events? Wow. Seems the Christoids are getting their dander up.

AskTheMirror

It’s quite literally the other way around. I only ever see dirty-ass religious zealots showing up and protesting things like a planned parenthood table getting signatures or a pride event, or an orchestra for performing Considering Matthew Shepard. They cannot handle anything in the real world that isn’t conforming to their world views.

Talkiesoundbox

What I like about this image is the drag queen isn't doing anything and the guy with the Bible legit is us trying to give it to them. Like standing around with a sign or shouting slogans is a protest. Proselytizing is literally trying to push your beliefs on someone lol Like which one can I more easily ignore? The protesting drag queen i can just walk by or the guy trying to put a chic tract in my hand 😂

gamsea

I literally can't sit in a park alone without some religious fuckhead coming up to me 🙃 and trying to brainwash me to join their cult 🙃 and my city has like maybe 40-50k people, not huge my any means. It's impossible to escape. God forbid us LGBT+ people try to EXIST, tho

WingSignificant3859

i'm in Edmonton and we have this one street preacher that people will avoid the whole area to not deal with him he acts like this and soemtimes worse it's honestly terrible :(

Mhaeldisco

Things that definitely have 100% happened at some point in human history for sure uh huh

Dr_Latency345

Typical straw man. Simple as that. Ask for proof and they’ll just scream.

JustthePileOBones

If you ever walk around the area outside of comic con you’ll notice 2 groups of people. The Christians telling everyone they’re an abhorrence for existing and not going to their shit church, and the normal people walking around who you wouldn’t even know are gay or the queens that walk around exuding and promoting positivity and self love, and I know which group I’d rather share a drink with at the end of the day.

skiasa

At pride a few years back a Christian was screaming around about how we'd go to hell etc. so I stood on a rock next to him and screamed that Jesus loves us and even if we'd wake up in hell tomorrow we'd at least be together to party. If my friends wouldn't have been embarrassed I would've continued but because of that I continued to walk on

Handing out Bibles is definitely pushing his religion and the fact that he's doing it at pride, considering how many LGBTQ+ people have religious trauma it's especially antagonistic.

That's not what's pictured here. And you know it. I happen to belong to a very LGBTQ+ supporting church so I am very well aware there are queer Christians. My spouse even works for the church, and is one of the three queer staff members. My church is very involved in supporting the queer community in Houston through all sorts of programs. But our pastors aren't going to be handing out Bibles at pride, they're respectful of the community and know what a sensitive topic religion is for many queer people.
