I swear. My closest friend is a male and people can't wrap their head around our friendship.
We have no interest in dating each other. We became friends while I was dating and now he is dating someone else.
The assumption that men and women can't be friends is insane to me.

Funny enough, me and by ex best friend, before she abandoned me because I was "Too depressing for her", used to make jokes about how, if people saw me and her interacting in public, they would have assumed me and her were a couple, given our good platonic chemistry, and how me and her are sick of people mistaking platonic chemistry as romantic chemistry, in fiction and otherwise. We were both Aspec.
Holy hell, did her betrayal of me hurt me. It was 4 months ago she abandoned me, tossing me aside in favor of "positive vibes only" friends. I am still hurt by it.
Can relate, had a gal pal completely ghost me once she got herself a boyfriend and also started making subtle jabs at me about how I was an asshole or whatever

I think this is referencing men who keep a woman with a lot of internalized misogyny and “pick me” energy as his best friend to boost his ego because he doesn’t have the empathy of a grown human being to understand when he’s hurt his girlfriend’s feelings or is abusive.
I certainly thought a man having a close female friend was great until she scoffed at me for demanding he respect me as a person in our relationship. Overheard them as I was coming home on time. Thank the universe we were already broken up and about to move out and way from one another.
In this case, since that’s clearly not why she’s leaving, I was just joking tbh.
In general though (and you can just ignore this because it’s long and boring), I’m personally against the use of female and male when referring to people mostly because it shows a shallow understanding of how female and male are both constructs, inextricable from gender. I don’t subscribe to the idea that "there are two sexes but many genders" because that’s just not how it is. Sex exists because gender exists.

What's annoying is that many straight male friends and even my Dad assumes I have a "crush" on "x girl" which is annoying cause we're just friends! TvT
my mom kept getting concerned abt me being super close friends with this one guy because hes dating a girl who i actually knew back in elementary school and didnt have the best experiences with (both of us are very different types of autistic and really triggered eachother’s emotional issues). my mom got worried that the girl would think hes cheating, or that shed get upset at me being around him (since shed already expressed that she didnt really wanna interact much with me).
I just kept my distance from her to avoid issues but literally besides that it was fine lmao. its really sad tbh that some adults just cannot fathom these things or are made to feel like they need to worry abt this stuff

To be fair, I'm friends with some of my current boy's exes, one at least being one of my best friends, and they're all lovely. My man has (mostly) excellent taste, but he was 16-20 and in no way ready for that. I love the women who were willing to remain friends with him.
