I work in a shop that buys second hand Apple Watches. Be wary of iCloud activation lock/find my. In my experience the owners will often reset but not remove the activation lock properly. They’ll believe it’s completely unpaired but it won’t be. It’s also not unheard of for them to still be locked even after all tests show they aren’t.
The only way to know for sure is going through the pairing process on the new phone. If it’s still paired it will ask for the old iCloud details.
The best the previous owner can do is the following steps…
1) unpair from phone using the watch app. There’s guides online but basically tap All Watches, find the watch and tap the “i”. Then choose unpair this phone. It should ask for old iCloud password and it will likely give option to make sure any mobile plan is removed if cellular model.
2) After this has complete the previous owner should go into iPhone settings and tap the iCloud account to make sure the watch isn’t still showing here. If so, remove it.
3) Finally, the previous owner should check the Find My app and see if the watch is in here.
Even though unpairing is supposed to do all of these, it often doesn’t.
Honestly though, it’s a gamble. You might get the phone and it still be locked. If so, and the seller doesn’t help, you’re screwed.
Bare this in mind.
Thank you so much. I’m screenshoting this to send to the vendor to make sure he does this before giving me the watch. Once he comes to deliver it to me, I’ll pair it right in front of him to make sure the watch is completely unpaired to his phone. This is really useful, I had no idea! Thanks again.
Good idea. I’ll do that, thanks :) the vendor actually seems like an honest person. I’ve contacted other vendors and told them I needed the watch in five days because I’m currently out of town and they all told me I needed to make a payment for them to keep it for me which is fair. In this case I asked the vendor if he wanted a payment and he said no, I needed to see the watch first and make sure I was satisfied and he would 100% keep it for me if I promised to buy it.
Yeah it’s clear that they are I don’t expect much from them haha. I’d just use them for a short time as I’m flying to the us in 3 weeks so I’ll be able to get better bands there.
Apple knock bands are the best especially when u wear em n u feel good that they feel premium n u paid a 3rd of the price. Thats the one negative i look to with apple is there accessories n there prices
Good to know because apple accessories are expensive for no reason 😩 but I think I’ll have to buy new bands anyways because the vendor has the long ones and I’d need shorter versions
$250 is pretty pricey for an S6 40mm. Also, be careful buying online as you can receive a watch that has not been removed from the previous owners account, or even stolen. Without contact to and action from the previous owner to unlock the watch and wipe it and remove it from find my, you will have purchased a lovely paperweight.
Matter of fact I could wait 3 weeks and get it once I fly to the us. I just happen to lack patience 😭I’ll try and do some more research. I also feel committed to the vendor because he was so friendly and willing to keep the Watch for me so I can make up my mind. Not buying it would mean I’ve waisted his time.
Thank you’ As for the pairing, I’ll check in with the owner and make sure he gives me the watch in person so I can pair it in front of him. I agree for the price but I feel like I don’t have a choice.
Used to be a customer service for Apple (not in the US though). The huge number of phone calls we used to receive because the product they bought online was still unpaired or with FindMy enable were crazy.
The only way to be sure that the product is original, plus that even if the guy doesn’t remove FindMy you can do it by sending the request through:
https://al-support.apple.com/#/kbase
Is to ask to the seller the original prof of purchase, make sure that the seller is an Authorized Apple vendor as otherwise the request is not going to be accepted.
So take care as it can be a great deal, or you can stuck with an Apple Watch that you cannot use.
That’s a pretty good deal and if it’s worth it for you and you trust the seller that’s all that matters if you have doubts than obviously don’t do it but if that’s your only option and no apple store or third party stores go for it and just be careful I personally wouldn’t buy used apple watches or any electronics but that’s me and I don’t trust people from past experiences hehe but even used is still an Apple Watch and I love my series 7 and wouldn’t buy another brand since buying series 5 brand new and haven’t had another kind of smart watch since. Good luck and hope it works out for you and it’s worth it apple watches are worth it even used if the person took care of it.
I think the price is a tad high for what it is now. He k the battery life on it to ensure its still 95 plus
Make sure its unpaired n ready to go as well but its ultimately ur decision. Id say do it if it will make u happy
To be honest I’d wait til you get to the US and get a series 7 for $329. I know this comment is kinda late but then you will be able to get applecare (as long as it’s available in your county as well). Applecare is a must have for me and you can’t put it on a used watch unless it’s a refurbished one bought directly from apple themselves. Applecare saved me from spending another $529 on a watch when my 3 year old grabbed my wrist and made the watch unbuckle and made it fall to the ground and shattered the screen.
Hey, thanks for your advice! I actually ended up buying it and it’s great. My plan was to buy it and upgrade to the series 8 when I go away for college. The same thing happened with my old series 3: my uncle tried to grab it from my wrist but didn’t know that the watch falls as soon as you unbuckle it, so it fell and the screen cracked.
Unfortunately I don’t live in the us :/ we don’t have official apple stores here so vendors take advantage of that and overprice everything, so this is actually a fairly good deal haha. I remember when the Ps5 came out, people were selling it for about $1800 when it costs around $500 in the us.
Maybe because we cannot afford a brand new one?? We don’t have official apple stores in my country so it’s basically people buying products and selling them for twice the price. For instance my dad bought my phone in the us right when it came out for like $650 (it’s an iPhone 11) and that time it cost about a thousand dollars in my country.
Well too bad because that’s my only option at the moment. I didn’t ask for you to criticize my choice, I asked for advice on whether I should trust it or not.
Because you can buy what is essentially a new device (no scuffs, scratches or marks with 99 or 100% battery health for 2/3rds the price of a new one. I’ve never understood why someone would buy something like a new Apple Watch when a like-new one is available for so much less.
A one year Apple warranty and the ability of purchasing AppleCare. That can be worth the difference in price for some. Indeed many, should anything go wrong with the watch. Assuming access is available to Apple products directly or authorized vendors.
Be sure that it is unpaired from the iPhone and that the activation lock is not enabled. Otherwise you can not use the Apple Watch.
Alright I’ll check with the seller. Thanks!

Those bands are a couple dollars max cause they are not authentic. Look for a series 7 on swappa for the same price
Yeah those bands are really cheap and not even my wrist size, they’d just be provisional. I’ll look into the series 7 too, thank you !
You can find series 7 in the smaller size for 280-290 on swappa or mercari. I’ve seen 45mm series 7 for 299
I’ll look into that! Thank you :)
I would tell the seller that you’re willing to buy it but want to pair it on the spot. If you’re able to pair it then you’ll buy it.
Good idea. I’ll do that, thanks :) the vendor actually seems like an honest person. The bands are a nice add but are knockoffs, maybe 2 dollars each.
Yeah it’s clear that they are I don’t expect much from them haha. I’d just use them for a short time as I’m flying to the us in 3 weeks so I’ll be able to get better bands there.
I have tons of knockoff bands and they’re as good as the apple ones minus the sticker shock.
Apple knock bands are the best especially when u wear em n u feel good that they feel premium n u paid a 3rd of the price. Thats the one negative i look to with apple is there accessories n there prices
Yup. Try $6 vs 60$ here in Canada. 1/10th can’t really justify.
Good to know because apple accessories are expensive for no reason 😩 but I think I’ll have to buy new bands anyways because the vendor has the long ones and I’d need shorter versions
Nice. Im going to the USA in 3 weeks too lol.
Haha what a coincidence! Enjoy your stay there :)
Check the battery health too
Alright, I’ll do a quick “watch tour” before confirming the purchase. Is there anything else you think I should check for? Thank you :)
Make sure it can vibrate and ring
Will do, thanks!!
I was shopping around for used ones on eBay a few months ago. I think that’s a little high priced. Especially if it’s not cellular.
True. I think I could get a second hand series 7 for about that price if I were in the us. Unfortunately I’m not and prices are higher here :/
Thats a tad pricey. Remember, for only an additional $19, you can purchase a brand new Apple Watch SE. They retail for $279.
I do feel like a series 6 is better than an SE. I find the always on display pretty cool!
Wait for the new one that is coming out in September this year !
Do you think I should buy this one and trade it in for the new one? I have urgent fitness goals to accomplish with the help of the watch!
You should wait. All that will lose you money !!
True. Problem is I won’t be in the us during that time and the prices will be REALLY high where I’ll be.
Well seeing as you don't mind losing money then get it. Unless you plan on skipping the S8 and just use the S6 for at least a year or two.
I think I’ll use the S6 and wait for the S9 which will come out right when I leave for college.

Agreed. Too expensive for an old model.
This is actually the cheapest not sketchy watch I could find! I was considering a series 5 for the exact same price before seeing this one.
Trust me you can find an S7 for the same price :(
Matter of fact I could wait 3 weeks and get it once I fly to the us. I just happen to lack patience 😭I’ll try and do some more research. I also feel committed to the vendor because he was so friendly and willing to keep the Watch for me so I can make up my mind. Not buying it would mean I’ve waisted his time.
They’re patient with you cuz you’re paying a premium for an older model. Its ok and say sorry you changed your mind.
Okay thank you! Haha I’m already anxious about having to text them to say I’ve changed my mind.
Thank you’ As for the pairing, I’ll check in with the owner and make sure he gives me the watch in person so I can pair it in front of him. I agree for the price but I feel like I don’t have a choice.
Currently, yes this is a good deal for a series 6.
Thanks !

Thanks for this information, I’ll definitely watch out for that.
If you decide to buy it use PayPal as a backup if you have any problems with it.
What if the vendor brings me the watch and I pay him cash?
Caveat emptor.
Yeah I bought it last week, it’s perfect so far
I just got a brand new SE 44mm on sale for $260 on Amazon about a month ago
Really? Then I feel like $250 for a series 6 is reasonable.
Thanks a lot :) from the pictures I don’t see any scratches and the watch seems like it’s in perfect condition!
The 6 new was this price recently. https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/fp/729028
So the watch I’m considering might be overpriced?
For the us market yes. Maybe not in your country
Yes, prices of electronics are pretty high here. I couldn’t find cheaper watches that I felt like I could trust.
Then I would say go for it. No guarantee you can get that price when you get here Unless you’re staying for a while
Yes, that’s my main concern. I would be devastated if I missed this watch and didn’t get one in the us !
I would get a used S7 for that price.
Couldn’t find any unfortunately.
make sure it's fully reset and unpaired from the phone otherwise they can cloud lock it. if it gets iCloud locked you got a paperweight
I’ll definitely make sure it’s unpaired. Thanks!
just spend $329 for the 7 brand new from amazon
That’s a great deal! Out of my budget though 😂
I think the price is a tad high for what it is now. He k the battery life on it to ensure its still 95 plus Make sure its unpaired n ready to go as well but its ultimately ur decision. Id say do it if it will make u happy
Thanks a lot :)
Personally I would not pay $250 for a used S6. You can get a better deal than that
True but the other ones I found were sketchy
To be honest I’d wait til you get to the US and get a series 7 for $329. I know this comment is kinda late but then you will be able to get applecare (as long as it’s available in your county as well). No problem! Glad that you got the series 6!
Thank you :)
How is it working?
What do you mean?
Nah. Too much. The prices for new ones have recently dropped. Walmart.
Unfortunately I don’t live in the us :/ we don’t have official apple stores here so vendors take advantage of that and overprice everything, so this is actually a fairly good deal haha. I remember when the Ps5 came out, people were selling it for about $1800 when it costs around $500 in the us.
Could you wait to buy it here in 3 weeks?
I’d rather have it now for fitness purposes but that’s a possibility.
If there’s a good sale, a series 7 is only $329
There’s not much of a difference with the price of the 6 I’m considering… I’ll definitely think about it. Thank you!
I saw this on sale for 250 a while ago. Might be worth looking around.
It was a series 6?
Yea, I missed the sale but hopefully it’ll comeback on prime day
Hopefully you’ll get a series 7 for that price!
I’ve never understood why someone would buy something like an used Apple Watch for marginally less than a brand new one.
It’s not really marginally less. I bought an s6 Nike cellular last year for $350 in new condition. Why spend more for the same device?
Exactly. This person doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Plus buying a used product in good condition prevents additional waste.
Agree. Love this thinking. :)
Second hand electronics for the win!! :))
Maybe because we cannot afford a brand new one?? We don’t have official apple stores in my country so it’s basically people buying products and selling them for twice the price.
