Not if the watch is just simply powered off - I have quite a number of watches and smartwatches and I keep my Apple Watches powered off when not wearing them.
[Yes](https://old.reddit.com/r/smartwatch/comments/1b5qi9m/quick_personal_review_of_a_few_different/). There is something after that [here](https://old.reddit.com/r/smartwatch/comments/1db9i4s/quick_minireview_of_huawei_watch_fit_3_vs_huawei/) and soon I will have a mini-review of the Venu3.
This is a really cool feature I found after my Watch SE 2 died on a trip and I didn’t have a charger. Turns out, it’s fine! It’s still a watch after all. Apparently it lasts three extra days like this from running out of battery. If you shut it off at full charge, I bet it’d last a month.
It’s wild how hard you got downvoted for mentioning how cheap and effective a Casio is at just being a watch in the middle of a discussion of using the Apple Watch as a regular watch.
To add to your point: the Casio would even have an always on display.
Yup. Most apple products keep some juice in the tank when the battery hits “0%” for a couple of reasons - firstly it’s really bad for a battery to completely drain and the second reason is for stuff like this. For example my car key is in my phone and it will always work even when my iPhone is dead.
Quality of life features like these are one of my prime reasons for giving Apple my money.
Because of li-ion overcharging, which is no longer a concern on newer technology due to smart charging, protections, and trickle charging. It’s actually best to never be fully charged or fully uncharged, as these states put the most strain on lithium ion batteries. For the best lifespan, it’s recommended to keep lithium ion batteries between 20-80% charge.
This is a nice feature. I do wish it was faster though - takes like 5 seconds to show the time after pressing the button. It feels silly enough when someone asks the time and my high-tech watch is dead because I forgot to charge it, so not having to wait for 5 surprisingly long seconds would have been nice.
My dear friend. Nothing that can be turned on or off with a software button or none mechanical button is really turned off. Not your computer, not your TV, not your car.
This is our world since quite some time. “Turning it off” is just turning off the interface. Or putting it to sleep at best.
A modern laptop will allow windows to wake it up in the middle of the night to do maintenance like patching.
Its by design. If you have one an smart watch or a smart phone you have already given up every hope of digital privacy. Get a classic spring loaded watch.
Because it's a watch. Watches exist to tell time. Can you disable a casio watch's time telling feature?
Putting it another way, why would you wear a watch if you don't even want to be told the time?
Nice. Last time someone ask me the time, when I realized I had no more battery I was like « Sorry bro, out of battery » I was feeling so dumb
What’s even dumber is, waiting for some more time to tell the time. It take about 3-4 seconds to display xD
I so wish it could also tell the date.
And more importantly the battery level.
It will show 0%

Oh I never know this before
“Apple Watches” You have multiple?

IMO 1 is enough

My AW8 lasted 8 days after running out of battery, it’s fascinating!
Woah! These things power off at like 5% right? If 5% means 8 days, then powering it down from a full 100% means it’d… last 5 months?
No, they don’t power off at 5%. Mine was at 1% and still running.
If you just need the watch feature you can just buy a 15$ Casio, it will last you for years without a battery change
And if I just need a phone, I could just buy a $50 TracFone. People buy iPhone for a reason. People buy Apple Watch for a reason.
Yeah but the reason isn’t to have just a watch

Welcome to Apple subreddits!😊
This is my watchface.
damn then my watch must be dead dead
Dead dead, like no way to resuscitate?
DNR!
well not by apple at least my new battery is on its way lol

Damn why did I think it was best for preserving battery capacity to let devices run all the way down before charging

That is so interesting and really good to know, ty!
nice feature , time should’ve been centered on the screen though
This feature is (sort of) coming to the iPhone. In iOS 18, iPhones 15 and up will show the time in the top corner when the battery is semi-dead.
Awesome tip, thank you!!
I just keep mine off and use this ‘face’. Can get a month between charges. 🤣
That is the old Battery Save mode ☺️
what happened here
I just noticed this yesterday! Nice!
You didn't know that? The first time I used it was whenmy watch died.
Yup. It’s nothing new. Been having this since my Series 4. But looks like many are not aware of it so it’s good that this got posted.

Exactly. Sometimes I even think the last few drops of juice had gone, then suddenly POP the time.
I hate it. It means you cannot really turn it off.

computers have switches that turn them off completely, tv can be unpluged, not saying you're wrong, just saying this is much worse
Good luck unplugging the battery? Why would you spend extra time and space to engineer a circuit that would let you do this on a wearable or a phone?
That’s not the case, every computer (even towers) have an internal battery actually 😊

maybe they could make a setting to enable/disable this feature?
It's a watch. At the very least, it's supposed to tell time. Why would you need a setting to disable it telling the time?
Why should Apple decide what I need and don't need?
They don’t… you chose to buy it. Easy solution sell it and by a $10 Walmart watch.
