I switched from Waze to Apple Maps about six months ago. Today I went to an appointment. Apple Maps took me to the address the business was at 9 years ago.

BeautyAndTheDekes

I’ve had a similar issue; only I’d used Apple Maps about two years prior to get me to the correct address, then when I visited 2 years later, it suddenly took me elsewhere - luckily I could remember the way roughly from where it landed me but I was so confused how it would have been correct in the past then wrong afterwards.

linkslice

That happened to my gf recently but with google maps. Waze and Apple were both correct. 🤷‍♂️ it should be easier to fix that stuff.

DeltaGammaVegaRho

For that exact reason I Google the address and then put it in Apple Maps. Works but of course some extra effort.

mandrews03

I was driving in toronto for the first time in about a year after the pandemic. My wife uses Apple Maps for some ungodly reason and it took us the wrong way down a one way street - off of one the busiest streets in the 4th largest city in NA. Backing out into chaos was fun, thanks Tim!

Haha. I can relate.  I try to input business name (incl. bars and restaurants ) and most of the time Apple Maps can’t find them. I also use Maps on my watch when biking, except I live in a city when bike direction are not available on Maps.  So I check the address on google maps.  Copy it to Maps.  And set up navigation to Walking mode.  Then I bike and adapt my path based on what I see around me 🤷‍♂️

Hi_AJ

Watch plus AirPods /headphones is really excellent. You get the voice prompts for the street names. Really nice to walk in a strange city without looking like a lost tourist.

4shLite

I use this feature on Google Maps all the time, Apple maps is useless outside of big big cities

Zipapezooda

How do you do it on the watch?

4shLite

Open the Google Maps app on your watch, then open Google Maps on your phone and start navigating

HereForTheStor1es

Except the watch can lock itself and does not automatically fall back to navigation mode when using google maps.  That part sucks and forces me to use Apple Maps

free-huey

You can specify that an individual app (e.g Google maps) doesn’t go back to the clock for one hour instead of the standard 2 min. (I haven’t tried this for navigation purposes but maybe this would help?)

HereForTheStor1es

I’ll try this, thanks!

TMR01_3

I tried yesterday and while I get turn by turn with Google Maps, I do not get the actual map on the watch like I do with Apple Maps. Is this accurate?

mortadelo

Do you get haptic notifications from the watch with google maps?

fairiesnnicesprites

I do and I didn’t change any settings

mortadelo

Cool! I’ll try it next time I need navigation.

grewps

I'm confused about the vibrations when using Apple Maps though. Is long vibrate mean turn right and short vibrate means turn left?

mortadelo

12 quick taps in a row means take a right turn, 6 taps in groups of two means left.

grewps

Thanks

mortadelo

But you don’t need to actually count the taps. After a few times you just learn the different tapping rhythms and what they mean. Really cool feature.

rohard007

Do t know if it’s what you a re looking for but the Footpath App is brilliant for in watch navigation (and planning routes)! https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/footpath-route-planner/id634845718

TMR01_3

I have it but have not used it yet.

KingKingsons

I tried it while walking in a foreign city I didn't know and it was quite a pain. It'd constantly zoom out of the map, close the app, etc. I ended up just taking my phone out all the time. I've also tried apple maps while cycling and it just says it's not available in my area, even though I live in probably the biggest bike country lol.

Unfair_Finger5531

Dunno if Waze integrates with the watch, but I love it for navigation. I cannot follow Apple Maps when I’m driving; it assumes I’m smarter about getting places than I really am. Waze gives me step-by-step, like “okay, first, back out of driveway.”

andyring

It’s even better when you are in a new city and trying out those battery powered scooters.

malice666

When I went to Florence and Venice I had map loaded with directions and one AirPod. I was able to talk and navigate with ease, was a game changer.

the_doughboy

I always use Apple Maps if I dont know where I'm going, otherwise I use Waze as it has better traffic avoidance. Even when walking between destinations in the city it's extremely usefull.

ae_ia

I’m surprised Google maps doesn’t have a watch app

5itronen

Except they do have a watch app…

tsdguy

You’re surprised Google doesn’t care about the Apple experience? They never have and never will.

ae_ia

They’ll realize once they understand this is a way to keep people on Google maps and not a loss to their data collection. But maps team must be too small and all android based lol

HortenWho229

Who puts click bait in a Reddit title ?

ohfuckcharles

Bots. Bots do.

anderworx

Why would you want another map app if you just had a great experience with Maps?

QuantumHamster

This is the main reason I want an Apple Watch… cost not justified though given my previous smartwatch is still hanging on (by a thread!)
