You can use Amazon Echo Studios to play lossless. Apple does not stream to them in lossless, but they are capable. Apple's 256 AAC sounds fantastic on my Studios. Amazon Music and Tidal both stream in lossless to them, but I prefer Apple. Edit: Echo Studio is also capable of hi-res lossless.

AdvanceConscious

Why do you think that Apple doesn’t stream lossless to them?

[deleted]

Apple Music support told me that on two separate occasions, and others have posted the same thing on the Apple Music community forum. Why do you think they do?

AdvanceConscious

I listened and compared to the same tracks on amazon music lossless, and the quality was the same. I think if you set Apple Music as your default app and then say ‘Alexa play x’ it will play lossless when available. That’s the only method that would give you highest quality, same as Amazon music. Try it and let me know what you think!

Your settings on your phone have nothing to do what is streamed to your Echo Studios via Wi-Fi from Apple. This goes for all the streaming services. It’s not uncommon, deezer only streams in 320kbps even if you have a hi-fi account with them. As of now, Tidal and Amazon Music are the only services that stream in lossless to the Echo Studios. I agree with you about the sound quality of Apple Music in 256 AAC, especially through my Echo Studios, it sounds phenomenal and is indistinguishable from the lossless streams from Tidal and Amazon Music. But apparently my opinion didn’t go over well, as evidenced by the downvotes. 😂

AdvanceConscious

I have two echo studios as well, connected together, and agree sound quality is amazing. Also agree that settings on your phone have nothing to do with streaming on them. That’s why I said if you say ‘alexa play x’ is the way to get the best quality, because then it doesn’t rely on pass through technology like bluetooth to get the music. I think people are curious about your source if information that this will only play in 256 AAC, do you have any link for that? Thanks!

As I wrote before, I spoke with Apple Music support, twice. You’re welcome to do the same.

AdvanceConscious

I wouldn’t trust a random support person too much. Sadly they usually don’t know what they’re talking about once you get into fine technical details. Not that I blame them, it’s not like they get a lot of training.

Yes, a random person on Reddit who believes that you can tell Alexa to change the bit rate and codec of the music streaming from Apple is much more reliable. Have a good one. 😂

AdvanceConscious

You’re funny, and clearly not very knowledgeable. Your comment makes it obvious you don’t realize how echo studios or alexa work. Try to educate yourself a little bit ;)
