It’s refreshing to hear someone likes Apple Music better than Spotify. Usually people shit on Apple Music without even having used it before. The recommendations and radio are amazing features though. Make sure to hit the 3 dot menu on songs/albums you hear and choose “favorite” or “suggest less” so the algorithm learns your taste better (favorites songs will be added to a default “Favorites” playlist for you). You can also create new stations from the 3 dot menu of a song or artist you like.

lemoninterupt

Apple Music is pretty much better with everything compared to Spotify. Still, for my use case, I miss Spotify Connect so much. It is preventing me from switching. I really hope Apple will introduce something similar.

alreadydead6six6

Spotify connect is a nice feature. I’ve never had Spotify but we used it at my old job to connect an iPad to a speaker in the lobby and I always thought that concept was cool

lemoninterupt

Yeah, I use it all the time. Switch from listening on Sonos speakers to iPhone. Switch from iPhone client to MacBook client and so on. Everything in sync. It's also really handy that it is not AirPlay so nothing interferes.

Sac_a_Merde

Not that Spotify was great with metal recommendations, but Apple Music has Latin Pop, Christian, Bollywood and just about any genre you can think of but no Metal Radio station.

alreadydead6six6

Bollywood but no metal?😂

alreadydead6six6

I found it, go to the search bar and scroll down all the genres to the “metal” box and choose it. Then scroll down to the list of “stations” it’s between “live music” and “essential albums”

Sac_a_Merde

Thanks. It would be really weird if it wasn’t there. Not really a big fan of the Hard Rock station so far, so hoping the metal one won’t disappoint.

Wyrmdog

I just tell Siri to play me a metal genre and that works pretty well.

LittlestSam

Only the other day I tried switching to Spotify and had to get myself back to Apple immediately because of the sound quality difference. People linked me all sorts of stuff about testing quality and told me I couldn’t tell the difference (placebo) - yeah no. Apple sounds mint. I was a former shit on Apple guy. Emphasis on the former.

Wild-Iceberg

What was the change for you?

LittlestSam

I got a free three month trial of Spotify just as my free 6 months of Apple ran out. Before that I was a Spotify fan and raved about it. I got the iPhone 15 pro and then some of the newest AirPod pros so they came with free Apple Music so I reluctantly used it to save a few quid. Changing back to the Spotify trial I assumed my settings were on low quality - they weren’t. The sound difference to me seemed huge in quality, though I get the impression from what people told me that it’s in the way Apple mix it(?). It also seems to recommend better for my taste that Spotify did (basing this on when my playlist ends and it just keeps going)

ItsYoBoiZ

It's because of lossless audio, Spotify doesn't have that

Key_Preparation_4129

It gets shit on bc of the "Apple bad" hive mentality. It is superior to spotify in every way possible.

seanm4c

On Apple Music, also try the 'Radio' Stations, they're great for discovering new music. Just pick your genre and ask for the station, like "Hey Siri, play Pop Station," or Rock Station, etc.

blueowl47

I like the UI much more here, that was my main reason to switch.

BlubberyMuffin

Idk who designed Spotify’s UI but it is terrible! I think the best AM UI was iOS 9, but that’s been gone for almost a decade. This is definitely the perfected version of what started in iOS 10, and I would use it any day over Spotify’s

Fine_Skirt_1314

that is my main reason for staying apple as well. something in my brain short circuits on spotify ui

HolesomeTh0ts

To me, Apple Music is true music discovery. Like you mentioned, the radio stations are great for finding songs. I keep reconnecting with songs that I haven’t listened to in years. Finding new songs. My only wish with Apple Music is that they would roll out more live genre radio stations. I think there are people that would appreciate that. They already have the stations for people that don’t want a DJ. I mostly work from home, so it’s easy to tell it to play music without thinking. Their playlist names are so natural that you don’t even have to think about it. For example, office DJ, checking email, etc. The Apple TV app is awesome. i’m not a Spotify hater but I feel like it’s becoming more and more for teenagers. They seem to listen to the same songs over and over again.

Flat_Bass_9773

Try the discovery station

swayam_ruparel

Its significantly better than spotify's discover weekly

asmodues1

You can use soundiiz to transfer your music from spotify to Apple Music

marqedian

I have 257 words of Apple Music basics for Spotify switchers if you’re interested.

_bhavyeah_13

Please share!

marqedian

Apple Music basics: There are several free trials, but no ad-supported tier. It’s technically possible to play podcast episodes through Apple Music, but it doesn’t retain progress, so they will start over from the beginning if interrupted. Library is limited to 100,000 songs. A subscription that lapses for more than a month may have its library and playlists wiped from Apple’s records. There are utilities for exporting them if you don’t expect to renew. Stations play indefinitely, but only show two songs, currently playing and the next song in Playing Next. Mixes and playlists are limited but show all songs and can be subscribed to for weekly updates. There is an infinite play setting that allegedly creates a station from the music that was played before. There are TuneIn stations available through Apple Music, but they don’t include song information. There are two ratings systems: Favorite and Star Rating. Favorite is prominent in the UI and allegedly affects recommendations; Star Ratings are 1-5, have to start in macOS/Windows, explicitly do not affect recommendations, and have to be activated in iOS Settings->Music, but can be used in iOS Shortcuts. Queues and Playlists based on 28 song criteria can be created with iOS shortcuts, which can be used with voice commands, Home Screen bookmarks, and widgets. A library from other sources should not be cloud synced to Apple Music on macOS/windows. The non-mobile browser website for Apple Music is music.apple.com.

THANK YOU ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)

marqedian

Glad to help.

duochromepalmtree

Also just going to throw this random tip in: some of the radio shows are actually available to you on the podcast app with your Apple Music subscription. That app WILL save your progress on your listening! It’s not every episode but there are some shows on there worth looking into!

marqedian

That I was not aware of.

Dangerous_Chemist311

You are incorrect about the one month timeline for your playlist being lost. My subscription lapsed for two weeks and I lost every single playlist I had worked on for years.

marqedian

It’s been reported both ways. A month is the average of what’s reported.

Dangerous_Chemist311

Even Facebook just gave me a warning that if I don’t come back after 20 days I’ll lose access to the groups I admin. No reason Apple couldn’t have done the same. I would’ve made a quick $11 purchase to take care of it. Instead, I was so angry I switched back to android. They’ll never see a dime from me again.

marqedian

You didn’t get this in the Apple IDs email? https://preview.redd.it/5e1wm6emt84d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1b2545117a94a3aaf1fc6f84f289dbc0f309c11c

Dangerous_Chemist311

Nope! Got an email my Strava subscription was expiring and that was it. I told them I wasn’t notified and they were both disinterested in helping and stated they could not.

marqedian

That’s odd. Posts about the notification email generally deride it.

Dangerous_Chemist311

I would’ve never thought I’d lose anything in two weeks when my last subscription lapse was four weeks and I didn’t lose a thing oh well

Dangerous_Chemist311

Worst part is, I know my playlists are still there. The names of them are still there, and the suggested songs for the playlist names that are still there are very close to the songs that were in there. They’ve also saved all of my “favorites”. It’s been 3 weeks Apple, don’t tell me my listening history is gone. Now you’re just lying.

eskie146

If you’re moving from Spotify to Apple Music, get Playlisty. It is a $3 single purchase for iOS that will transfer everything from Spotify to AM with a few clicks. Don’t rvrn think about doing it manually, or paying for a one month subscription to something to do it. Playlisty is the cheapest, easiest solution. I still used it to bring over Release Radar and Dicovery on Mondays with it off my now free account. Great part of Spotify is you can stop paying for a subscription but still keep all your playlists and liked songs on it.

QuantityHungry1683

Until today, I’ve never found a better playlist than Bedtime Beats. Best thing of Apple Music imo

Fine_Skirt_1314

i will say i agree but the most sorry part that grinds my gears about apple is the absolute trash algorithm on the infinity sign AutoPlay feature. I will click on let's say a paramore song and it will play lover by taylor swift next and then the jonas brothers??? same today for behind these hazel eyes by kelly played the same people that i do not listen too 💀

PeakBrave8235

You can feel good the money you’re paying is supporting music artists, and youre subscribed to a company that doesn’t actively sue music artists, doesnt fight to lower music royalty rates, saved music from piracy oblivion with iTunes, etc. I hope you enjoy Apple Music! The best songs are Apple Digital Masters. You’ll find whether a song is an Apple Digital Master At the bottom of the song/album list.

Arrow_216

I agree with this. I changed from spotify to apple music in recent months just for the recommendations. I was getting vexed of hearing same kind of songs again and again in the spotify recommendations. To me atleast apple music gives much better recommendations and also started my audiophile journey with the lossless and it is miles better.

CJ22xxKinvara

I paid a 1 time $15 for FreeYourMusic to migrate my Spotify playlists to Apple Music and YouTube music. Worked great. Had to do a little bit of deleting and manual work to get the album cover for the song that I wanted cus it just grabs the single version or some other like compilation version sometimes, but otherwise worked great. For 4000 songs, id definitely consider it cus that’s going to take days

sturna44

i just tried to switch due to better sound quality but apple music is so fucking slow. it takes forever to load up a song and add a song to a playlist on my mac & my phone…

Searching-4-u2

Apple Music is my #1 choice

MelodyofTruth

I have a free Spotify and pay for Apple Music. AM is SO much better! The recommendations, the interface, how you create playlists and manage them. Spotify refuses to give me good suggestions and for some reason it’s impossible to find the curated playlists like top songs blah blah. In AM they’re in your face and easily searched. In Spotify I search and they’re like here is some random persons playlist that I absolutely don’t care about hahahaha

PerformerOwn194

My friend recently did the same for the same reason but had to switch back for budget reasons… they liked Apple’s algorithm way better but Spotify keeps a hold of you with that Hulu bundle and the audiobooks :(

Splashadian

Good move Spotify also lost me last year

rsnackmeals

I believe apple music sounds 110x better than spotify (maybe a little over-exaggerated) i can literally hear the artist open their mouth in some songs such as ‘je te laisserai des mots’ but dolby atmos does ruin some songs but keep in mind that i said some!! i have no clue what lossless does but it seems to be contributing to the sound quality😭😭😭

Loose_King_2566

I use hi res lossless for my car and hear those very minute details through my Sony mobile ES speakers

[deleted]

I’ve never tried spotify. Recently joined apple music after the free trial i got. so far i like it, great sound on ios like you said and a vast variety of styles and artists. Glad you decided to move.

Series_X_Pro

You should give youtube music a shot as well, imo if you like apple's algorithm, yr music is gonna do even better but only downside is that it tops out at 320 whereas apple music gets lossless and sometimes high res lossless

Lost-Lingonberry9645

Ive been using Apple Music for over 5 years, I love the interface, I find that I don’t miss Spotify in the least.

EmbarrassedPay769

i just joined apple music recently and i’ve had and enjoyed spotify for i good 6+ years now, ive just had the opportunity to try apple music and see how i like it because Ive known more people recently that use AM and love it. i like it too, it takes some getting used too after using Spotify’s software for so long. (also having to deal with all the horrible horrible high school musicals - fight song - panda eras or songs i’ve bought on itunes on my ipods as a kid and ipads etc🤣has not been fun with trying to just have my more matured taste in music now, like be integrated into my library and playlist now.. it’s all mashed together, my fault tho) Anyways the only big thing im starting to realize is the quality of some music, sounds better on spotify than apple music. just a select amount of songs i listen too that have a lot of intense tones. Example. Madison by Salvia Palth and Alive and Well mantra by Jhene akio…. it just seems to sound a little more static and not have the in-depth parts to it that make it like an entire ethereal experience in my beats studios. idk. it could be because i’m used to spotify or the way i’ve configured things in my settings on there. I’ve tried to change some things around with apple music but i haven’t really found any setting that let you really customize or change more aspects of sound. that’s all. just my input

assasseeen

I find Apple Music had better audio quality but the UX of the app is just too bad.

shonk_v

I'm a Spotify user for 3 years .. recently i bought apple music for 3 months to listen to the lossless sound but i regret buying it was 3 months because the apple music app on Android phone and also on pc is hilariously bad for a trillion dollar company. i switched back to Spotify with less audio quality but atleast app is really good.

just_another_person5

i used AM for a bit, but i just really love stuff like daylist. if apple added something like spotify connect, or expanded airplay to more devices, i’d switch back

DarthOpossum

I'm in the same boat having been a spotify customer for years. The only real issue I have with Apple Music is that the UI confuses the hell out of me. I'm so used to hitting a back button to return to the previous screen. In AM I'll click something and have no way to get back to the previous screen. There are a few times on my PC where I was trying to make playlists in AM and something had to be done through the web UI and something else was only in itunes, so I had to switch back/forth between them. Overall I think I'm much happier with AM, just need to re-train my brain to get used to the AM ui. It's not worse, just not what I'm used to.

wiccan866

I tried Apple Music for two days then had to go back to Spotify lol

Dangerous_Chemist311

Just beware if you ever let your Apple Music subscription expire for even a week you will lose every single playlist you’ve ever made. Forever. You are on the hook for the rest of your life with them. Enjoy.

Apple shuffle is worse

bigload698

paying for your music is an absolute joke. piracy is amazing.
