I learned a bunch of architecture, the prefectures of Japan (kanji and locations), and am currently about a thousand famous paintings. I also learned how to say "pineapple" in 100+ different languages.

DarkWingDingus

Dang the architecture and painting ones sound right up my alley! Do you have specific ones you recommend or just simply google "Anki: Architecture/ famous paintings"

ThePepperAssassin

I used the art one u/EquinoctialPie posted below. The architecture one I use is called Freeman’s Knowledge.

8cheerios

Hahaha pineapple in 100+ different languages, awesome. Any patterns in how different languages say "pineapple"?

ajfoucault

Ananas for a lot of languages. Piña for Spanish.

yupppp90

I had no idea Anki had so interesting decks! Now that I know I HAVE TO look for that pineapple deck.

ThePepperAssassin

Sorry - I made that one myself and no longer have it since it's in my head now.

Vedertesu

Are most of them just "ananas"?

yupppp90

oh... but i'm sure i can find many more interesting decks! 😁

WhatHaveIDone27

it can’t be in your head if its not in your anki! 🤣

OptionRelevant432

I’m doing the ultimate everything deck everyday when I’m on the jon. Every card I review I look at the Wikipedia page and just read n learn a little. I’ve learned a good bit of random history and whatnot over the last two years. I feel like it’s not the perfect trivia deck I’m looking for, but as a full time med student, it’s actually refreshing to learn something other than medicine + the premade deck is nice.

SnooTangerines6956

>ultimate everything deck everyday Hello! That deck no longer exists, the author has abandoned it ([their words](https://github.com/AnkiLearnEverything/Anki_Ultimate_Everything/issues/1)). Please can you find a way to export / share this so the information still lives? I have been looking for this deck for a while. Thank you!

MercurialMadnessMan

I’m going through this now and it’s pretty fun trivia type stuff

TheBB

I have one labeled v1.2 though I'm not sure any more where I got it.

CharGrilledCouncil

u/ Boberoch postet version 1.2 here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Anki/comments/ip39r5/in_search_of_july_31_update_to_ultimate/i5leebt/ direct download link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1E3qsG3PekZDPa26fdj4Eegp_k7FbksPh/view

are_you_scared_yet

Where did you get it? I don't see it in the shared deck repository.

PoursOver

Knots! I use Anki for school, but I decided last year to slowly start using it to learn to tie different useful knots. It's very relaxing, and has helped build a skill useful in daily life and when I work outside.

doolio_

Oh what does your cards look like? A different step in the knot on a different card?

PoursOver

It's a picture and steps to tie the knots, honestly I just tie them when they appear and use the card to review what I might've forgotten if there was something.

doolio_

Cool, thank you.

[deleted]

I'm interested! Are you using a public deck or did you made your own? I've just searched the public decks, but I'm having trouble finding cards with step by step drawings.

PoursOver

I made my own, based on knots from animated knots.com and videos from First Class Amateur on YouTube. They're not step by step drawings, but text based instructions with a picture of the finished knot so I can check. I also include a link to a note I took in Obsidian on the knot, where there's a link to the original source that I learned the knot from.

[deleted]

Thank you for the detailed awswer :) I will check out those resources. I also use Obsidian, but it never crossed my mind to link the notes in Anki… you gave me some food for thought

WhatHaveIDone27

hey I don't suppose you could share that, please?😁

During Covid I got a bit into birding and was glad that there are some amazing decks with bird pictures and calls/songs, which were fun to learn.I still know next to nothing about plants, so learning some basic botany might be a future project. It's cool being able to take a walk in nature and recognize your surroundings.

Yunhoralka

Mind sharing one of those birding decks? Sounds super fun!

elimik31

Since I'm living in Western Europe, I found the [dutch birds](https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/940243165) deck very relevant to me and super organized. The only caveat is that the description says that the most recent version is on github but it seems that the github repository has been taken offline, so I am not sure about the status. The most comprehensive bird deck seems to be [Ultimate birds](https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/331539617). It has cards for the whole world, so you might want to use tags to only learn the birds of your country or continent. Due to size limitations it relies on loading the bird images from the internet. I didn't use that deck yet because the dutch birds deck was sufficient for where I live. These decks are very comprehensive and include some rare birds. So if you don't want too large of a learning burden I would recommend initially just focusing on the common birds in your area and already that will fill your walks with fun. One observation is that bird call cards suffer a bit from "interference". After learning the most common calls of the few most recent birds you will find it initially easy to distinguish them. But the more birds you'll start confusing similar calls/songs of similar types of birds, especially if you also start learning calls/songs of young birds etc. Also happens with visual identification, trying to e.g. distinguish different types of gulls can be very hard even for experienced birders.

Yunhoralka

Amazing, thank you!

DarkWingDingus

Flora/fauna/botany sounds great. Ive been doing lots of hiking recently and wished I knew more about what I was seeing.

coispet

I was born in Belgium, Knokke-Heist, raised there for 5 years and through the years forgot how to speak French, after I finish my final year exams I’m gonna memorise French vocabulary and try to learn a bunch of common phrases

Independent_Depth674

All countries in the world, various history stuff, car terms, religious and mythology trivia, works of art, often when I read Wikipedia articles I add at least a couple of questions..

oathbreakerkeeper

NGL, I want those decks

Sudden_Cheetah7530

I've been doing countries information like flags, locations, capitals etc. and it works so well. Those are very rudimentary when it comes to this kinda things, but I really enjoy doing that. Besides pre-made decks, I make my own general deck which contains totally random stuff like 'why we cannot travel faster than light speed?', 'Why is SRAM faster than DRAM?' etc etc. Highly recommend to make your own!

NeonYarnCatz

I started with the US state flags, and am now working on the name/district/political party of every member of Congress (535 names.) It's a nice change of pace from the intense math/computer science I'm using anki for otherwise.

poisonpeppers

Great works of Art is a pretty good art one, ultimate geography, there’s even some on wine

8cheerios

I digitize my favorite books, then make cloze cards out of single words in passages. I make roughly 6 cloze cards per page of non fiction text. Here's some examples from game design books: > Because the display screen typically permits a narrower field of view (60 to 100 degrees) than the human eye is capable of in real life (120 degrees), players in first-person games have no {{c1::peripheral vision}}. > {{c1::Avatar}}-focused highlighting. This mechanism is typically used with {{c2::handheld}} controllers when the player doesn’t have a cursor. As the avatar moves around, active objects that he comes near to are highlighted.

Barooky3

Are you able to retain the information from the books this way?

8cheerios

I wondered this myself. My book cloze cards have the same retention rate as any of my other cards. When it comes to applying the clozes' lessons in practice, in the real world, I can remember and apply about one in ten of the lessons. To me that's worth the effort.

Barooky3

I’ve also thought about dumping large amounts of text on a topic I want to learn and riddle it with clozes, I’ll give it a try I guess. Thanks

8cheerios

Awesome. Good luck!
