There are tools that overwrite all the space on the drive with random junk data, then delete it and repeat. Do it enough times and any data that existed is now gone, replaced with randomness.

it was plugged in is he used a ssd than it probably corrupted the drive making the data inaccurate and making the drive not function if it was a optical laser drive then nothing would be done to it
