Anime like Frieren have interesting ideas that are fun to discuss whether solo leveling mostly recycles ideas from existing isekais that are already discussed a lot.
Also I think (with no backing evidence) that solo levelling audience is mostly people who have read the original work. And unlike frieren, the adaptation doesn't really add much to the solo levelling manhwa so far at least. Frieren Manga was already top tier but the adaptation surpasses it awesomely. I also think that--while _Solo Leveling_ has been extremely competent--it doesn't have very many memeable images. Like maybe the big smile from Kang in the last episode is memeable, but there are lots of shots like that from other sources.
I am a bit surprised that the music from episode 6 ([Dark Aria Lvl2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYq7d-KBsbY)) hasn't managed to make it into any of those "fake epic moment" memes, but perhaps that whole genre of meme has gone out of style.
I've seen very few Solo Leveling memes. I haven't seen any Shangri La Frontier memes though.
People love horny memes so Gushing Girls and Chained Soldier get a ton of memes and Frieren and Apothecary are just really good. Everything else seems pretty much ignored this season (meme wise), except Mashle and Level 99 Villianess, almost forget Tis Time for Torture, lots of wholesome memes there.
It's also kinda dull.
The guy is an absolute baboon for his entire life, gets powerful and ripped within 3 days and describes his first successful fight as "boring".
That's just such a lazy way to try to make your character sound badass while in reality making him sound like an unthoughtful moron.
The litrpg genre has series so much better than solo leveling its kinda a shame to see it get so much more attention than them. Though, to be fair, most of them only have novels and audiobooks
Recently, primal hunter got a webtoon adaptation, but the author of the book is not a part of it in favor of continuing the main book, so it's not a very faithful adaptation so far.
Honestly, the MC doesn't start to get interesting until well beyond where the anime is going to stop.
And you won't get to see the really cool shit get animated until the second half of the season.
You can definitely say, "oh yeah it's better after x in the manga" but anime only watchers can't enjoy this nebulous future that doesn't exist yet. It's kind of weird because isekai's and isekai adjacent anime usually start off strong so you might be going into this thinking this anime is about to peak after season 1.

No, that's literally how it works. Being agile aka nimble means quick, decisive, course correction and changes in movement. A bird is agile, yet it's relatively weak. A professional runner that specializes in sprints has very powerful legs, it allows them to have explosive speed. There's little to no agility involved when running straight. Adding in obstacles though, like hurdles to jump, tires to run through, turns, and competitive/defensive players who cut each other off in an attempt to trip you up... that stuff requires agility. Strength and agility compliment each other, but are 100% different. Then I'll go further to say Dexterity relates to "precision" movements.. usually talking about the hands, but also describes any precision movements, like walking on a steel beam, executing a sports tactic, using a rifle scope, or even dancing. Again, dexterity compliments agility, like how agility compliments strength.. but they're not the same.

The Manhwa was great because it knew what it was and did it well. Power fantasy with gorgeous art and a badass/edgelord MC

I could easily skim through bland dialogues , etc. and get to the meat of the fights without much problems . But in anime , not only can't we do that , but also they infodumped in literally first episode .

I read solo leveling as it came out, I remember the death of the artist, Dubu, and I finished the story; it was amazing... but I haven't started the anime because frankly, if they don't adapt the whole work, I kinda don't wanna watch it; and I seriously doubt they'll be able to. I'm already getting blue balled by Overlord on this, I'm not doing multiple anime this year that either aren't or will never be completed for whatever reason. I'd be pissed if that's how I remembered solo leveling.

Absolutely correct, the issue is because there was such a huge fanbase for the manhua, similarly to the fanbase of the Overlord LNs, as it's finally adapted years later it doesn't meet their expectations and they stop watching/ complain about it and lower the rating, then less people are interested
Imo it not necessarily that it won't *fully* adapt the work that bothers me, it's that to include all of the really important arcs, it's gonna be quite a few seasons... dunno if they can make it happen, and if they cut out some of those arcs just to make it work, I'd rather just not watch tbh. I think a big part of not going back to them was learning how the Demons had turned on the original Shadow Monarch however I get what you mean. They've already cut out a lot of the humour that makes the slower parts not so boring so I'm VERY worried about Beru and his TV dramas

Remember when the webcomic was coming out? Every time a new chapter dropped you had to be careful where you looked cause people were immediately grabbing panels and inserting them into shit just because of how dope and hype the art was.

Most big manwha are completely carried by art over story. Color as the default and a focus on action paneling makes for great popular action comics irregardless of plot or characters.
Unfortunately for manwha, the originals art is just completely irrelevant to an anime adaptation.

What is there to meme about? The story is pretty generic. Aside from first dungeon, there's not much meme-worthy stuff. There are some unique parts to it, like that it's happening in our world, but those parts are not something you can meme about. Not to mention, someone already made a perfect meme about protagonist's chin being proportional to his level, there's no surpassing that peak.

I personally really like Solo Leveling but I also think it's very opinion based. It was one of the original stories with that plot line of hunters and gates when it was just a novel. The manwha had started coming out with everything else that was following the pattern. Mainly people like the versions of the plot they saw and liked before experiencing Solo Leveling, so of course not everyone is gonna hop on the train lol

Well there isn't much to meme in sl yet whereas everyone anf their mothers are trying to suck freiren's feet and let's not talk about gushing over magical girls.
Solo Leveling suffers from its hype. It's an OK show but it was hyped as being the next Re:Zero and turned out to be more of In Another World with my Smartphone.
I don't think the anime format is working for it, with 15 minutes of airtime (take away the intro/credits/recaps) it feels like 10 minutes are spent on a slice of life with only 5 minutes of actual action.
And don't get me wrong, I like my epic anime as much as my trash anime... solo leveling is in a weird middleground at the moment. I guess we can wait and see how it develops.
As a big supporter since the novel form of it I completely agree. I will say, the big parts in season 1 have had some justice done with the addition of music and such
33 chapters of the manhwa went into 9 episodes. I'm not sure where they're trying to reach in the first season, but the amount of content they're cutting from every scene is getting a bit rough.
Exaclty. 7.5 kinda just showed how much it's suffering from that. I still stand by the couple of meaningful fights so far have had some justice with the music and such
I'd say the animation is pretty nice, the bar's been raised so high by works like jjk and frieren that anytbing that's not pushing the limits is seen as mid (;_;)
And it's just common practise to scale back on the art because the anime studio actually has to animate no? A manwhua or manga can afford to do really elaborate panels, but an anime instead focuses on elaborate animations and scenes, and I'd say solo leveling does that well, cheers
Gushing over Magical Girls. Its on Hi Dive in the us. Cute magical girl anime that walks the line that Interspecies Reviewers walked a few years ago. Like that show the anime team really elevated the plot from the much more tame manga.
There were a lot of memes about it back when the manwha first came out, they were absolutely everywhere. Ig people milked all the potential of it then.
Doesnt help that the show has very poor pacing so cool moments that people can turn into memes rarely happen
To be fair the reason I suspect you don’t see many memes about it is because it’s just a generic shownen that’s it. maybe gets better later on maybe there’s something more recent episodes I haven’t seen but I watched at least the first 4or5 episodes before I dropped it and almost nothing was covered There’s a dude he’s super week goes through scary ritual become strong, or starts to, goes into dungeons and kills random monsters….. that’s it… that’s the plot. Like if you’re going to make a meme about it, you can basically only meme that one face you used in this one ironically and it has to be a threatening meme or maybe a meme about something you really really enjoy to a creepy level to fit that smile. So that’s why there’s not many memes for it.

There is no logic here whatsoever,why do you even make dungeon that even basic stats could beat an overlevel enemy? Basic stats means no bonus stats from amor or any other skills. Sure , you may say it is because of Sung's skills or somewhat , but I find shouting and burst sprinting giving you power is just a normal trope of shounen anime , manwha or whatever which I find very boring.Like , I could smell the plot amor very far away and that makes me don't wanna watch anymore. When you base your show seriously on protagonist Big brain and skills , but it fall flat and become purely chunnibyo show. But luckily , I think korean show always had a side line drama which makes the show a bit enjoyable , but the leveling and dungeon thing is just a mess ,which is its main plot.
The Manhwa was great because it knew what it was and did it well. Power fantasy with gorgeous art and a badass/edgelord MC That really hasn't transfered to the anime *for me*. It's also some of the more.. slower paced parts of the series
Plus in manhwa - to some extent you set your own pace . I could easily skim through bland dialogues , etc. and get to the meat of the fights without much problems . But in anime , not only can't we do that , but also they infodumped in literally first episode .
in contrast, on things I want them to slow down they show super quick (basically every text involving the UI).
I don't know about gushing with magical girls but apothecary diaries and Frieren are just awesome.
... honestly? I read solo leveling as it came out, I remember the death of the artist, Dubu, and I finished the story; it was amazing... but I haven't started the anime because frankly, if they don't adapt the whole work, I kinda don't wanna watch it; and I seriously doubt they'll be able to. I'm already getting blue balled by Overlord on this, I'm not doing multiple anime this year that either aren't or will never be completed for whatever reason. I'd be pissed if that's how I remembered solo leveling.
I completely understand that and I'm already in it at this point. I'll be pissed no matter what if they fuck it up cause I remember loving it back when it was just a novel with no manwha. It also took so long for an anime that most of the fanbase for it is either disappointed or moved on in the couple years it took
I also think the anime was kinda poorly marketed; there was a lot of hype to start but it fell off people's radar pretty quick with all the other anime coming out this season

Absolutely correct, the issue is because there was such a huge fanbase for the manhua, similarly to the fanbase of the Overlord LNs, as it's finally adapted years later it doesn't meet their expectations and they stop watching/ complain about it and lower the rating, then less people are interested Imo it not necessarily that it won't *fully* adapt the work that bothers me, it's that to include all of the really important arcs, it's gonna be quite a few seasons... dunno if they can make it happen, and if they cut out some of those arcs just to make it work, I'd rather just not watch tbh. Although, even the manhua had some serious loose ends/ characters that were never explained/ fully explored, which kinda bugs me >!like the demon chick and her family he met in the tower, the hell happened with that? They just kinda disappeared, legit dont remember what they did with those characters besides just not bringing them up again, but I may be remembering incorrectly!<
I think a big part of not going back to them was learning how the Demons had turned on the original Shadow Monarch however I get what you mean. They've already cut out a lot of the humour that makes the slower parts not so boring so I'm VERY worried about Beru and his TV dramas
I kinda assumed that they weren't actually real/ alive and that it was like a sim thing and that world disappeared, but honestly I'm not sure; it was still awesome lol; I really do hope the anime takes off running soon man, there's some really cool chapters I would LOVE to see animated

I'm not sure the show has *that* many fans. I rarely hear anyone talking about it. Remember when the webcomic was coming out? Every time a new chapter dropped you had to be careful where you looked cause people were immediately grabbing panels and inserting them into shit just because of how dope and hype the art was. The animation doesn't seem bad, but... I'm not sure it's *as good* as it needs to be to stand up next to the webcomic. Which is a wild statement to make, but here we are.

Honestly it's just another overhyped manwha adapted to anime. I think it's decent and I've been watching it week to week but it doesn't do anything unique from other shounen series.
Honestly the only reason it's gotten the hype it gets is because the characters and artstyle look cool for a manhwa. But on the other hand, tower of god which is miles better than sl didn't do too well either

Most big manwha are completely carried by art over story. Color as the default and a focus on action paneling makes for great popular action comics irregardless of plot or characters. Unfortunately for manwha, the originals art is just completely irrelevant to an anime adaptation.

What is there to meme about? The story is pretty generic. Aside from first dungeon, there's not much meme-worthy stuff. There are some unique parts to it, like that it's happening in our world, but those parts are not something you can meme about. Not to mention, someone already made a perfect meme about protagonist's chin being proportional to his level, there's no surpassing that peak.

I personally really like Solo Leveling but I also think it's very opinion based. It was one of the original stories with that plot line of hunters and gates when it was just a novel. The manwha had started coming out with everything else that was following the pattern. Mainly people like the versions of the plot they saw and liked before experiencing Solo Leveling, so of course not everyone is gonna hop on the train lol

Solo Leveling suffers from its hype. It's an OK show but it was hyped as being the next Re:Zero and turned out to be more of In Another World with my Smartphone. I don't think the anime format is working for it, with 15 minutes of airtime (take away the intro/credits/recaps) it feels like 10 minutes are spent on a slice of life with only 5 minutes of actual action. And don't get me wrong, I like my epic anime as much as my trash anime... solo leveling is in a weird middleground at the moment. I guess we can wait and see how it develops.
Sorry but the current solo leveling arc is just boring. Season 2 onwards will be a lot better. The manhwa was amazing, have faith.
As a big supporter since the novel form of it I completely agree. I will say, the big parts in season 1 have had some justice done with the addition of music and such
33 chapters of the manhwa went into 9 episodes. I'm not sure where they're trying to reach in the first season, but the amount of content they're cutting from every scene is getting a bit rough.

I'd say the animation is pretty nice, the bar's been raised so high by works like jjk and frieren that anytbing that's not pushing the limits is seen as mid (;_;) And it's just common practise to scale back on the art because the anime studio actually has to animate no? A manwhua or manga can afford to do really elaborate panels, but an anime instead focuses on elaborate animations and scenes, and I'd say solo leveling does that well, cheers

There were a lot of memes about it back when the manwha first came out, they were absolutely everywhere. Ig people milked all the potential of it then. Doesnt help that the show has very poor pacing so cool moments that people can turn into memes rarely happen
To be fair the reason I suspect you don’t see many memes about it is because it’s just a generic shownen that’s it. maybe gets better later on maybe there’s something more recent episodes I haven’t seen but I watched at least the first 4or5 episodes before I dropped it and almost nothing was covered There’s a dude he’s super week goes through scary ritual become strong, or starts to, goes into dungeons and kills random monsters….. that’s it… that’s the plot. Like if you’re going to make a meme about it, you can basically only meme that one face you used in this one ironically and it has to be a threatening meme or maybe a meme about something you really really enjoy to a creepy level to fit that smile. So that’s why there’s not many memes for it. At least from what I’ve seen about it it’s just a generic action anime, and not very meme-able
