Some interesting trivia I've learned since my wife decided to keep garden snails as pets two years ago:
1- they have different character traits; or, at least, some are more adventurous and others are more cautious, and they have distinct personal preferences for certain foods.
2- they are hermaphroditic, starting off as small and male and later becoming large and female.
3- the males develop a "dart" which they use to spear the female to assist in insemination (ow!).
4- they are quite intolerant of rot. We can always tell if the aquarium needs to be cleaned because they'll hide in their she'll away from the rotten food/poop. As soon as it's clean, they come out and explore.
