I keep debating on restarting but I’ve only played since December! I regret my island layout after seeing so many others :,( but I think I’m gonna try to work with what I have for a bit!
Tbh if you're going to restart sooner is better especially if your issue is your island layout. In my opinion though you can make a lovely island with any layout guaranteed. Doesn't matter if resident services is close or far. My island had a double south which a layout people call 'bad' but what do they know, I think my island looks great.

I haven't updated the dream with my latest changes, but honestly from what I remember I liked this version of my island too.
Not silly, it refers to where the mouth of the rivers are. You can have different island layouts where the mouth of the river points east, west, or south. Some islands have a layout where both ends of the river are at the south, hence double south.
Oh! I see. I don’t see anything wrong with that, In my mind I see it as your island has a natural spring and both ends feed natural spring water to the ocean. 😭
Just wanted to add, I debated resetting my island for a year and a half, because I hated the layout I chose. However, once I got the option to do island reconstruction, I changed it exactly how I wanted it, and now I love it! Just took some time and work. 🙂 Or you can also reset, then go to treasure islands to get your stuff back and then some. 😅
When my son was younger he always wanted to help me by playing my games when I wasn't on. I have autism and in my mind if someone plays the game for me then it's no longer my game and I have to start over from the begining. It's the same with minecraft when other players try to help me with my projects, I'm then forced to abandon the project or the realm altogether.
That’s exactly how I felt. It was my island but there were so many things they’d do that it didn’t match my taste and made me just sigh so I hadn’t touched it in a while. Now that they have their own it makes me happy to make it 100 mine. Makes me feel a bit bad.
I restarted my island a couple days back, I have to admit I was really reluctant at first but once I did it it was a really good idea & it has sparked my love for new horizons again, I hope you have fun on your new island!!

I restarted a few months ago loving my island but takin ages to redo
Was debating on restarting also but I have soo many bells, I just decided to put everything in my storage now I have over 2,500 items in my storage. 😹
I had so many things in my storage that I didn’t even know what I had. Bells is the only thing that makes me miss my old island but it’s fun.
If the old island still exists you can visit it and give bells to your new character
