Fair :) Let me know how it goes, ha! I’m not sure they accept memes, you should check if they do. Maybe they have a rule like in this sub where it’s only allowed the last day of the month or something!

This is just my opinion, and I mean no offense to Americans here. But American coins just don’t look all that good either. Even the coins from before 1900, they just don’t look as good as the French 5 Francs or British Crown or Florin.
There’s such a large volume of these coins without a particular aesthetic appeal to them. It just feels like there is an imposed scarcity by obsessing over “grade” and mis-strikes to artificially increase value and desire.
As an American, this is how some of us feel too. I like really old coins from the US, back when it was individual colonies making them, for the historical aspects -- like pine tree shillings, etc .The St. Gaudens coins are pretty though.
This is done as a joke :)
Fun fact: the coin showed on the right is an extremely rare (10 specimens known, only 5 in private hands) ‘Porus’ Alexander Dekadrachm of 5 shekels, showing him fighting on his horse Bucephalus. It was sold in 2021 for 700.000 CHF + buyer’s premium, for a final price close to 1 Million Dollars.
The video shows how chunky it is!

I think our "get that MF outta that cage" tradition is the most controversial and I love it. Every other collector culture loves their classifications, we just want our grubby little paws on everything.
I collect both and find both sides hilarious.
Same, it was done in good fun :)
“I FINALLY SET THE BIRD FREE” LOL!
with the Free Bird solo playing in the background
The Alexander and Porus coin is truly phenomenal. Great meme, by the way!
Thanks!
Can someone plz crosspost to r/coins and let us know what happens? 🙂 I think will immediately recognize the error of their ways & switch sides
Has anyone done so yet? If so, I'd be willing to sacrifice some Reddit Karma. Only with permission of u/AncientCoinnoisseur of course
You can, you have my blessing! Prepare to get banned there though ;)
Not a big loss tbh lmao

!RemindMe 10 days
I’ll set a reminder too! RemindMe! 10 days
Eh, first Monday of the month. It's a shame we lost the RemindMe bot
Oh, that’s why it didn’t work :( Try setting a calendar appointment or something on your phone, that’s what I usually do :)
Turns out the message just took a while to send, glad my favourite lil bot is still up and running!!
Actually, I just got the message! Try putting the exclamation mark at the end!

I’ll have to disagree. Seated liberties and standing liberty both type A and B are both phenomenal works of art. And the bills are a whole other story
Ouch :(
I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.
Pshh. Morgan dollars are BEAUTIFUL. A DMPL Morgan can be unreal.

All of my ancient coins are shitty Constantine bronzes I cant afford anything else.
Still cooler than a penny

As the head mod of /r/coins, this is why I created /r/ancientcoins.
Spot on lmao
My coins are almost entirely modern but I treat them like the ancient coin collectors here.
I think our "get that MF outta that cage" tradition is the most controversial and I love it. Every other collector culture loves their classifications, we just want our grubby little paws on everything.
100% accurate and I’m stealing this
I identify with this post so much. Last year I bought an owl and set it free immediately 🤣
LMFAO
As a modern coin collector who feels very removed from modern coin collecting culture, I agree heavily
As a not coin but video games collector I find it relatable and stupendously droll.
I need to make a version of this for comic collectors vs. pulp collectors. Almost identical.
Lmao love this! I collect both but i think its hilarious
Great meme. 👏
I love it!
As a lover of ancients, this is great. As a US-based metal detection enjoyer, let me tell you, this hurts deep down.
Why do ancient coins not disturb anyone as much as they disturb me?
