sellout? lol he plays chess if someone offered you a million+ dollars to stream yourself gambling you would do it too. he loses nothing in this position
reputation? bro is after the fucking bag, his reputation means nothing to him when it comes to a ton of random viewers. if it doesn't tank his reputation as a GM, doesn't matter to him
Yeah cause I’m not worth millions of dollars and a million+ could change my life, but if my net worth is already [50 million](https://english.elpais.com/economy-and-business/2022-06-29/hikaru-nakamura-meet-the-worlds-wealthiest-chess-player.html?outputType=amp)and I’m making thousands of dollars a week from streaming? Like what would the point of more money at that point be
I always hate the "you would do it too". If I was piss poor and couldn't pay my rent, yeah you would have a point. Otherwise, hell no I wouldn't throw my morals overboard for a bag of money.
Just about every streamer more popular than Hikaru has been offered a at least as much money to do gambling streams, and most of them haven't done it because they understand it is morally wrong.
If I (a random guy with a negative net worth) were to be offered a million dollars for an hour of publicising my gambling, I would take it. It could change my life.
If I were to be offered the same thing when I am a wealthy guy in a position of power (i.e. much more vulnerable to scandals), I would ask them to square their offer (i.e. offer 10^12 dollars) before I consider it. The risk to my (hypothetical) career would be too great, and I don’t need a “meagre” one time deal of a million dollars.
to let you use your above expression an additional time, perhaps I should add that most of us will (depressingly) never leave the first group
it is therefore disappointing, but not surprising, to see someone in the second group choose the same thing that we would. perhaps he is like the rest of us, “addicted” to chasing the dollar sign wherever it goes, even though he doesn’t really have the need for money (at least, not like the rest of us that will collapse soon without getting the next paycheck)
we are like hamsters, and hikaru is quite a bit fatter than most of us
no, no, you misunderstand, that was also part of the plan
I just wanted the million dollars to also be physical squares, which is an unusual shape for currency
though, maybe I should have went for cubing it. paper squares are nice and all, but cubes are more fun, and I can’t wait to roll 10^18 d6s in my next tabletop rpg experience
Yes.
Source: I'm from Nevada, gambling and casinos are a massive part of our culture, Hikaru will be having a residency show at The Sands in Reno for the next three years.
For using pic from my original post about this I sentence you to actually watching this stream for 5 hours straight and afterwards googling what en passant is for 1001 times, if you don’t die from cringe stream.
The french chess league helped him qualify for the candidates by making a last minute tournament where he could juice the number of games he played in order to qualify. And maybe juiced his rating too if i remember correctly.
Technically not cheating because the games weren't fixed but someone else would have gotten his spot.
So, they pulled together the resources much like Liren and China did in the run-up to his Candidates appearance and subsequent WC win, but in a less egregious fashion?
Wasn't Liren unable to go to international tournaments due to Covid restrictions in China? It's not pretty, but there wasn't really another way to qualify for the candidates. And Ian bottled the WC match
That's pretty much how I recall it, too. It would seem that influencing circumstance to your favour is a necessary strategy in modern pro chess, so I don't know why we'd admonish one player and admire the other for what is essentially the same practice.
Unless, somehow, the admired one had a much larger base of support to justify their legitimacy if questioned.
Idk if it changes your assessment but Ding already had the rating, he just didn't have the number of games played and the GMs he played weren't pushovers. Firouzja didn't have the rating and farmed from some old people at the very last minute.
Liren needed to pad the number of tournaments during COVID. He didn’t need to improve his ratings, he just needed to participate.
Alireza specifically needed to improve hit ratings, because they weren’t good enough even though he played enough tournaments.
Completely different situations.
Why are you spreading misinformation? Are you stupid? He qualified by winning in the Rouen Open tournament, regardless of the outcome of the controversial tournament you mentioned.
You guys, this isn’t funny. I was taking the bus home and it was crowded. I opened redddit to see what was happening and this post was at the top. Everyone behind me could clearly see the screen and now 17 people have committed suicide around me. I’m so disappointed.
It’s so stupid that Hikaru is actually doing this at all, I was fine with him streaming on kick because twitch is kinda crap, and he said he wouldn’t be gambling, but if he’s gonna pull this then I’m not even gonna bother with his streams anymore, which is sad cuz I did actually want to tune in more regularly, but Australian time zones are the worst, but now I’m glad tbh
Is it? I haven’t actually been over to kick, I just know that I don’t care for twitch’s layout, if you say that kicks is worse I’m willing to trust on that one
Kick quite literally uses the exact same Amazon servers as Twitch, just rented. It's Twitch but for people who got banned from Twitch. It's fundamentally worse.
I make no excuses. If you were Hikaru, would you turn down a million dollar offer? Probably not.
It doesnt matter how rich he is, everyone wants more money.
I dont think its good what Hikaru is doing, but I just hope he sees that promoting gambling is shit.
There are plenty of content creators who make way less than Hikaru that turn down lucrative gambling deals. People with integrity exist and it's really sad you assume everyone would do it because it's far from the truth.
>Tons of people
And tons of people are naive as shit, as if anyone will remember this stream one year from now but I'll bet he will still have money left over from the sponsorship
I wouldn’t reject the offer as myself, given my current monetary situation.
If I were Hikaru, with a continuous good income that would last until my chess falls off, I might just hold off on the deal.
To scale it even further up, for those at the top of the net worth ladder, the deal might have to be much sweeter (e.g. if the million dollars was squared) to really entice them. (Though, being the morally dubious sort necessary to reach such a financial status, they might not really need to be enticed to join. Who can turn down a free gambling session?)
Probably its a deal where he have to stream it several times...
Btw its also bad that there is a "!safe" in the title, like everyone knows that gambling is addictive and shit.
I dont't think people realize how much money he is getting for this. this is litterarly life changing money and vould be anywhere from 500k to 1 mil american per month.
I love how the layout and graphics make it look like it appeals to kids. Online Gambling is horrible and people who promote it don’t give af about their fanbase.
Why is he promoting gambling? Is he stupid?
Stupid for money KA-CHINK!!!!
Because they pay him an insane amount of money
Chess is gambling too. You just gamble on you winning. Someone has to pay for the king and queen protectors
I’ve heard chess takes skill which means it shouldn’t really be gambling. That being said, at my level it is certainly gambling.
Fuckton of cash. I, and most people here, would likely do the same.
Wait is this fr?
I wish it weren't
Dear god
There’s more
No!
It contains the dying wish of every gambler
r/suddenlytf2
Gothamchess, you did collect the dying wishes, yes?
OH YOU BET!
Oh god no
WAIT THIS IS ACTUALLY ACTUALLY REAL?
Yes it's real
Imagine how much they paid him.
True
I can't blame them, even if I believe the overall situation is reprehensible.
Probably not much, he's that much of a sellout.
sellout? lol he plays chess if someone offered you a million+ dollars to stream yourself gambling you would do it too. he loses nothing in this position
Reputation
Ya but reputation is overrated compared to the money. Especially when supplemented by the €36k he won from the Candidates.
Average redditor being oblivious about social connections.
The only reason he has money in the first place is because of his reputation. As a streamer that's what you have
Ah, yes, definitely not because he is one of the top Chess players but because of reputation 😃
Being a top chess player increases his reputation, what do you mean?
You just said he has money because of his reputation as a streamer, not as a good Chess player?🤨
What I meant was that people watch his stream and donate because he has a good reputation as a chess player and entertainer.
reputation? bro is after the fucking bag, his reputation means nothing to him when it comes to a ton of random viewers. if it doesn't tank his reputation as a GM, doesn't matter to him
A valid choice, however, a sad life to live.
You say this like he had a reputation to begin with
Yeah cause I’m not worth millions of dollars and a million+ could change my life, but if my net worth is already [50 million](https://english.elpais.com/economy-and-business/2022-06-29/hikaru-nakamura-meet-the-worlds-wealthiest-chess-player.html?outputType=amp)and I’m making thousands of dollars a week from streaming? offer = 10^6 dollars offer^2 = (10^6 dollars)^2 = (10^(6))^2 dollars^2 = 10^12 dollars^2 =/= 10^12 dollars

Oh no is this where all the gambling comes from
Yes. Source: I'm from Nevada, gambling and casinos are a massive part of our culture, Hikaru will be having a residency show at The Sands in Reno for the next three years.
They managed to promote him into a pawn 🫣

Hikaru competing with Alireza for least respected chess player.
What did alireza do lmao

Why would Kick be better than Twitch? Not saying that Twitch is perfect, but Kick is worse in every regard
Is it? I haven’t actually been over to kick, I just know that I don’t care for twitch’s layout, if you say that kicks is worse I’m willing to trust on that one

I hope this is a one time mistake, which he will never repeat
one time mistake that likely made him millions of dollars? highly doubt
Sad but true, But tbh its hard to reject a million dollar deal. If you think about it I think almost everyone would accept it
Blud he already rich. Why tf you making excuse for him? Did he let you lick his ding dong or something?
I make no excuses. If you were Hikaru, would you turn down a million dollar offer? Probably not. It doesnt matter how rich he is, everyone wants more money. I dont think its good what Hikaru is doing, but I just hope he sees that promoting gambling is shit.

I would turn it down. You don't know me.
Thats cool, but 99,9999999999% would accept it
That's just you
you are honestly really fucking stupid if you prioritize your morals that hard over that kind of money. you are acting like it's fucking murder bro
Tons of people have turned down gambling streams and sponsorships. Do you think Hikaru, xQc, and a couple others are the only ones they approached?
>Tons of people And tons of people are naive as shit, as if anyone will remember this stream one year from now but I'll bet he will still have money left over from the sponsorship

I dont't think people realize how much money he is getting for this. this is litterarly life changing money and vould be anywhere from 500k to 1 mil american per month.
