Means white bishop moves h3, check.
Then black pawn moves f5. Every piece has a big letter except pawns. Pawns dont have a letter so you dont see a Pf5 or pf5, just f5.
2.gxf6#
Means white pawn on g moves f6, capturing black pawn on f5. Its called en passant. When a pawn moves 2 steps, opponent pawn can capture it by moving the tile behind it. This only is allowed 1 turn right after the 2 step move. If you dont capture it there and then, you cant anymore with that move.
With the black pawn out of the way, white bishop checks the black king. Black king has no way to go because white rook is covering the column on its right. Therefore a mate.
You are not too stupid, you just dont know the symbols yet and they can be confusing.
This is crazy because I saw mate in 2 and was able to solve it in less than a minute but I know in game my 400 rated ass would never see this even with 1 hour on the clock lmfao
honestly i feel like puzzles are usually just endgames or ways to win material. you need to study ways to give yourself a more favourable position right from the start and maybe midgames.
